Graf played very well here and she played with a much wider variety than she normally did. A pity she didn’t do this more often. Thank you for the upload.
I think the weather conditions made a difference in this match. Here, the court is dry and firm and playing more like a fast hardcourt. In their semi final in 1990, it was cold and damp, allowing Zina to keep the ball low and take all the pace off in the slow conditions. Steffi was vulnerable to attacking players sometimes on cold, damp grass. She lost to McNeil in exactly those conditions in 1994 too.
We really get a glimpse here of just what Steffi was capable of. Some really brilliant all court play. It's a real shame that she didn't feel comfortable playing like that more often - who knows what else she may have achieved.
@@robdurdain5912 for one thing, Steffi was ill in 1990. She had been flying back to Germany during the tournament to get specialist medical attention. I agree that Zina didn't play as well here, but you need only look at their head to head. Steffi was very dominant.
@@robdurdain5912 Her win last year was a typical once in a life opportunity that Zina took quite impressively. But looking at their h2h and Grafs record on grass this was not to happen twice. Graf was way superior for that and as she was the one, who always had it in her hands. Zina had to play like in brighton 1991 one the best matches of her life to make it close.
This match could have got out of hand for Steffi in that second set. You could really feel the momentum change, the errors creeping in and Steffi starting to get a little bit erratic. Experienced match player that she was though, she must have sensed that herself and raised her game again at the key moments to shut Zina out.
I’ve read that just before this match started one thing that irritated Zina is that Steffi practiced her return of serve off of Zinas arctic earth serves. That is considered rude . It disrupts the player from serving more serves in that small window f time. Players Ike that their first few serves without fu overtook warm up the arm and shoulder. Having bet wait that extra few seconds t returned all can disrupt that warm up. Zina took her time I removing her jacket . Steffi will rush you and Zina was advised to move at her pace when serving , The rule of tennis is for the receiver to move at the pace of the server.
In ur face zina!! Steffi had sinus infection the year before and had to fly back to germany right before that zina semifinal match. Damn i start to sound like a monica seles fans with these excuses ...😆
LOL at 'the Seles fans reference. So true, no fan base has as many crazy excuses as them, they feel entitled because of the stabbing, but they are pathetic even with their excuses for every pre stabbing loss too, the most pathetic of all that she only lost the 92 Wimbeldon final to Graf where she got smoked badly since she "didn't grunt". Never heard such nonsense. Anyway Zina still deserves credit for beating both Seles and Graf that tournament to reach the final. Huge wins for her.
Steffi almost unbeatable when she serves like that, her forehand is working, and she's also adventurous at the net. Brilliant !
Steffi the GOAT, its a joy to see her old matches, thanks for the video♥️
This was revenge from 1990 semifinals. Steffi was on in this match. Serve, topspin backhand, forehand... This was perfection!!! THE QUEEN!!!!
Thanks! I've been hoping to see someone upload this for years.

Steffi's return was on point

she didnt have too , best player ever in womens game,
@@peterphilstacey4698and there were a number of big matches she lost because she wasn't comfortable attacking
Steffi used a lot of topspin backhand returns here!
Graf so much sharper and quicker here than the year before against Garrison
No the only difference was Garrison played worse. Steffi played the same as the year before. This was Zina's match to win or lose and she lost it.

@@robdurdain5912 Ah a dreamer how cute. Their matches were akways Steffi's to win or lose. Sorry honey

1:04:02 --- No one did/does it better. Arguably the most difficult shot in tennis...
Thanks for the upload❤❤❤
Thank you!
Steffi wasn’t about to lose to Zina again here.
Utter brilliance from Steffi... why is the women's game so poor now...? They all play the same game, 2 handed bludgeoning crap..
Ah..revenge is sweet. Would never again lose to Zina 12-2
The 1990 semi , Steffi was really suffering with Hay fever x
Was steffi working with Heinz already when this match took place?
She started with Heinz in the beginning of 1992. Pavel was in the players box for this match
Garrison's technique was strange to watch.
@Sapam Meitai her backhand slice
Very eccentric playing style. Interesting how high up the racquet grip she held it. She felt that she got more control that way.
@@zeddeka you're right..like Tracy Austin
