I think this is the greatest turnaround i've ever watched on a tennis court. From 5/7 0/2, all of a sudden, there is a hurricane swirling around Martina. Winning shots are coming from everywhere. What a great match to see once again. I recall at the time I had been taken by surprise that it had gone to 3 sets; I'd watched the semis and thought Martina had lost a step from the previous year and wouldn't challenge Steffi. That she grabbed the opening set was quite the achievement, but it was just one of those matches where Steffi got better and better and Martina's level definitely dipped. I don't think anyone could have stayed with Steffi that day. It was one of those seminal moments in sports where a true changing of the guard was heralded; Martina was spent, would never prove quite so good again (still an unbelieveable force!), and Steffi led a younger cohort of athletes who would only get better themselves.
