Attempting to bolt a seat storage box to the aluminum floor of my own SIB. How are your thumb screw nuts attached on the underside? Does not appear as though you are using rivet nuts.
I get asked this a lot. I was concerned about rivet nuts spinning after the pounding all day. Knowing what a pain that would be. If you post your email I’ll send you pics. I used stainless T nuts, stainless washer, welder, sandpaper, epoxy, 1/8” thick rubber sheet, contact cement. In that order. It is a bit of a pain but worked very well.

Yes I did. Almost no difference between 17p and 19p. Definitely no speed change. Only rpm lowered 200 with 19. The problem is the hull on inflatables. Especially futures. The center of the transom meets the inflatable keep poorly. This year I’m trying a mod to help this problem. A tapered /shaped 18” long wooden filler piece to smooth the keel transom transition. Haven’t tried it yet perhaps this week. If it works well possible speed increase? P.s. on my motor the standard shipped prop is 17p

Great video and very informative. Im looking for something similar but seeing a huge price variation for these. Im a beginner with this stuff and wondering-is that too much hp for a motor and how would I determine whats too much power or to little?
Not at all. But the future hill is more stable than traditional hulls. Also weight is a huge factor. With 4 on board I’d hate much less hp. But I like very fast.
I’ve had trouble with my speed tubes the whole time. Replacement are hard to get. Seems no inventory. My year boat had thin fabric used for the speed tubes. My replacement tubes are the bottom fabric. Very thick. Should be better but I just got them. Other than that the boat is good. Wide and large tubes to carry the 60 hp. No I knew about the zodiac and was looking for used. A dealer was selling a indoor floor model for 1/2 price a and I bought it. I like the surf cat by Ceaser but I have never seen one in person. Also the hull is flat between the speed tubes so hard hits would be expected. Future has a center keel that lessen that hard hits but surf cat states it’s faster.
@@pagick9 Never seen the surf cats either but the specs look phenomenal! I'm looking for something that i can store at my holiday home, without any trailer as i dont have a garage but it's only 20 metres to the beach. @@pagick9would you be willing to post a quick video on that process?
@@Drei2Day I’ve never figured out how to post a picture in the comments section. Send email address if you want them.
I was afraid the threaded insert nuts would spin after rattling around a few years. It would be very hard to unscrew the thumb screws once you built it. I made inserts this way.
Stainless t-nuts welded to stainless washer. Epoxy to hold in place. In case it came loose I used 1/8” rubber sheet cut 1” larger than the stainless washer and contact cement it together. The rubber keeps the washer from spinning it it came loose and protected the hull fabric
If it’s not clear send email
Is that a long shaft?
if I remember right yes, but not as long as others.
Living the dream!
When trailering do you cover boat up to avoid any debris from puncturing boat
No
Did u experiment with different props? What prop are u using now and what rpm are u at.. etec is the best i think..4stroke cant compare.
@@pagick9 its a stainless prop i see.. its not shipped with a stainless..
I used to have a 14ft inflatable.. with a nissan nsf25a.. did a steering wheel and so.. all the things you did..but figured it was too much of work to tear it down and take everything off and made a trailer too.. but i got wobble in the floor at top speed on a flat lake..like a resonant frequency.. constant wave like wabble.. and couldn't fix it.. i tried a 15pitch 4blade to the oem 13 pitch no difference.. but one thing that made a world of difference were the stabilizers i put ..i will reply you with them.. i thought 25hp/30 was an overkill but you out did me..i have few videos of the boat on my RUclips from 10 years ago.. basically no planing..just full speed instantly..
@@pagick9 maxi marine trim tabs..i did 22mph max..with the 25hp..
@@s2000Macedonia I bought it used as a test but it sucked. 21p
Someone recommended it.
This is just way super cool. Whats the range with the giant 12 gallon tank?
my dad uses a 20 horsepower one and i think its already strong cant imagine a 60 horse.
I run full speed for about 60 miles.
@@pagick9 My God. You are crazy! Thats way too cool! Wish to see more of your adventures with that.
Love what you’ve done with the seats, could you share some more information on how that was put together? Links to parts much appreciated!
Too much to describe. Overtones sell seats, reverse mount, steering.
Box under seats is marine ply1/2” with two coats of oil base rustoleum ask for other items
Thank you, this is great!
Where did you get the trailer? I’m digging it
It’s a modified jet ski trailer w/ a “Swing Away” hinge.
@@pagick9 thanks
What is the top speed you get , its look very cool .
37 mph
Could you share how to setup the seat base/box bolts? Did you place nuts under the floor? If so how?
Yes nuts under floor. Made flush nuts useing stainless “T” nuts an washers welded together. Epoxied under floor with Thur threads in floor so it still has smooth floor under
@@pagick9 thanks. I have mine where there screw heads come through from under the floor. They are shallow rounded screws but was looking for an easier way to be able to remove my box.
How is the engine secured? My Tohatsu has only the option of being bolted into the transom with power tilt. Any tips to make this a removable setup?
I use to have a 35 hp on a sib. I used thumb nuts. Just keep an eye on them
@@pagick9 Many thanks!
Hi, what negatives do you have on the Zodiac Futura mk2? Have you looked at the f-rib's or compared any other SIB's?
What weight do you reckon is doable on your own to wheel this and would it be possible to fold it in a boot with folded back seats? Hope to see your boat in action with the new tubes! take care
@@Stamati76 my first sib (1985)was a similar size but had a 1985 30 hp. Which weighed only 119lbs. My future estimate weight is-
Boat fabric roll 100lb
Aluminum floor 65#
Outboard 240lbs
It’s the outboard that have gotten out of hand.
P.s. my first boat fit inside a very beetle. Boat and plywood floor in back seat, outboard in front. Future is a bit heavier and bulky due to larger main tubes as well as speed tubes.
About 14' and top speeds 37 mph. Should be faster it seems to me but the fabric isn't as slippery as fiberglass.
Hello! How did you printed the registration numbers ? Regards
I used a stencil and “plastic “ spray paint. It did that reaction thing where it stayed tacky for a month. But now it dry. I’ve heard of better paint but I can’t remember the type.
dang this boat is fast! where you get those great seats?
Overtons . Ive cracked the back twice. Actually my buddy did it both times. He leans back to far both times. Overtons has you send pic and they send you replacement. 5 year warranty
@@pagick9 thank you I have should have search the thread I saw your replies. Anyway this boat is sexy as it can be, loving the red color you can be the guardian of the water to rescue people.
@@kuang01 where I boat this boat is out of place. most are over hp racing cats averaging 28'. but I run all weekend on 12 gal.
@@pagick9 yes! I saw that tank, I have the same one on my zodiac military rhib 550. I usually put two more 5 gallons tank when I boat to the Channel Islands on weekends. Mine has Honda f90 WOT at 4 mpg.
Love your custom build! I got the same Zodiac, can you tell me the brand and the model of your seats?
Just look on Overtons site. The fabric pattern is slightly different now. But close.
I’ve broken two when in the heat. 110 deg. Lean too far back. Both were replaced. 5 year warranty!
@@pagick9 thanx the answer! Will order these and hope they send them to germany! Do you know the height of your box under the seats?
@@jayromski I made it just high enough to allow the needed room for seats not to chafe the side tubes. I’d estimate 7”. It still packed away.
looks great! by the way is this a SIB or a RIB
its a sib. Zodiac Futura MKll
Really nice set up... please post an update👍
Where did you get the storage bin that you put seats on?
Made them out of marine ply 1/2”. Painted with oil based rust oleum brush on. 2 cotes
How do u build the storage box and how u screw it onto the floor?
I’ll send you pictures of what I made to screw. But I need your email. The box is made from marine plywood 1/2” thick. 1”x1” blocks in the corners hold ply together and they extend up 3/4” above the sides/lid part line. This keeps top in place.
Thanks, some of your work really inspired me, especially the garage winch for the boat and motor hoist during the installation.
Spectacular design, but it only has one problem, the floor is glued and will not withstand all that weight for long.
really? How about dive tanks, beer and 4 guys pounding in the ocean?
Whats the turning ratio for the steering console?
I didn’t know you had a choice. It’s just a inexpensive steering setup. It feels like every other boat I’ve had.
I love the mod I would love to do this to my inflatable boat
did Zodiac quit making the futura?
I think they are still. Also Gemini makes one. Guys who have seen it says it’s better. I haven’t seen it.
Looks like they did... it's nowhere to be seen on their website anymore. They are obviously focusing on the expensive RIB market, but bad decision to ditch such an innovative design. Shame on you, Zodiac... well, I would say thank you for still making the Bombard Commando line
Hi Pete.. Love what you built there! I'm moving to Brazil and already have a Hydro Force boat, about the same size and with similar Aluminum floor. I'm interested in doing a similar build to add remote control steering and controls. I can't buy a motor until i get to Brazil, but leaning towards a Hidea 15hp Outboard, which i understand is patterned after Yamaha motors..
I've got questions about what to buy as far as Controls, Helm and cables etc.. Did you use Universal Control boxes & cables or were they specific to your motor? Id appreciate if you can share some info, brands, cable lengths etc.. I got your email from another post. I'll send an email there. Thanks!!
Universal. 11’ cables. But that might not be what you need.
How long is your boat?
13.5’
How long is it?
14’
Beautiful boat but Why such a big engine? It’s heavy and burns a lot of fuel.
Evenrude etec 40/50 & 60hp are all the exact same engine. Same parts and same weight. The only difference is the software. So why not go big, I say. I found a dealer who charges 10% more to go from 40 to the 60. When I go out it’s a two day trip. I run almost full speed for 50+ miles with stops to hang and perhaps enjoy a beer. I burn about 12 gal. The whole trip. That may include wakeboarding. And I’m a heavy guy to get up. The 40 might not work for me.
Great video ! I've always dreamed about a Futura! Is it still available ?
Yes I think many companies have a version
