Underrated move of Tom Hanks
The Man With One Red Shoe
That movie
I never saw that one, so many movies on my mental list from listening to this show! I wrote down the two that were mentioned that came out more recently , will hit imdb next! Thank you.
Tom Hanks is so down to earth, I heard from a friend who worked on That Thing You Do with him that yeah, he was exactly who you hope he will be, a real joy to work with.
Tom has such a good memory and I like he asked the guys questions also.
This is just pure amazement. Three guys chatting around about the good old times. This is great listening!
I agree! So many people complain in the comments about their style of interviewing, but I like the whole fly on the wall concept of listening. I love it when they repeat stories with different people to see how they react. Also, it makes me feel like I get a sense of who they really are not some made up skit they are throwing at us ❤
Tom Hanks is one of the best interviewers of our time. So many great Spade and Carvey stories in this Hanks for the Memories podcast.
You guys forgot Splash!
Hanks has your number funny boys, smart as whip and a killer! legend!😁
This is one of those things I never knew I needed but I'm so happy it exists. Fantastic job guys. 👏
Tom Hanks is so damn likeable
THANK YOU for mentioning "Sony guts.". I had that sketch lodged in my memories from childhood but had no idea where it was from. I thought it was in a movie I couldn't recall.
This podcast is gold, and deserves millions of views
This took me hours to watch-cos I kept pausing to check out the SNL sketches they referred to-and its been one of the most fun, best podcasts I've enjoyed!
For Tom Hanks to entirely recall a dropped SNL skit song from what, 30 years ago?, is really a testament to his true acting capabilities.
im very impressed with that
not really. being on snl IS pretty significant
@@AlaborJinta Yeah, if that was his only time. He's hosted 10 times and made other cameo appearances. I imagine each time gets slightly less significant. He remembers a 30 yr old sketch that didn't even get past rehearsal. Also, OP... he has a remarkable memory. That's separate from his acting ability.
I think he - obviously he is an incredibly skilled actor - but I love that he's such a fan. I think he remembers it because he had so much fun being on SNL.
Omg i knew Tom Hanks was awesome but this interview seems to confirm it.
Dana and Tom are my idols of comedy .
Sony Guts-I had this whole episode on VHS tape, but then I recorded it on a handheld, mini cassette voice recorder and took it on road trips. It was quite popular.
This is inside baseball gold for snl students like myself. Damn, I wanna write on this show.. in 94.
This was so great and I didn't anticipate the level! 🚀🔥👍
hanks is a genuine snl fan. so fun to hear!!
"Meg Ryan in a Jetta". Perfect image. Brilliant.
Now I want to see that subway surfing sketch
There must be hundreds of sketches cut from dress rehearsal that no one's ever seen, at least dating back to the Carvey/Spade era. Yet I've heard them say on this podcast, on I believe the Laraine Newman episode, that they've seen the current cast members of the show go on a computer and pull up cut sketches. A small bunch of cut sketches were released on Yahoo videos years ago. But there is certainly a treasure trove of material from some great years of the show featuring some beloved and departed cast members that SNL could release. We should have all this material put out in some deluxe DVD or Blu-ray box sets. All the years of the Carvey/Spade era with all of the cut sketches as well.
Think I've listened to this a few times already....and I aint stoppin!
wow one of the best listens in awhile.... Great discussion.
The quicky from spade 7:15 "We'll get to you Tom, in about 40 minutes" LOL...Classic spade!
Tom Hanks is awesome here.
Easily one of the best (if not *THE* best) guests they've had. For a non cast member, his extensive knowledge of SNL is impressive and so enjoyable to hear. You can tell that he's a legitimate fan and you can feel how much genuine love he has for the show. This is why Tom Hanks is a national treasure.
Hold on, I'll agree with "one of" but can't go with "THE" cause you know, there was that one Beatles guy.
@@Mark-xb7ro That one was ok, but how many interviews has Paul Mccartney done, and how many stories about him have other people told? I already wrote why I think the Hanks episode is possibly the best one, and I stand by that.
I am ashamed to say that I didn't know Jack Handey was a real person.
@@vanmoody me too, I even bought the books for Deep Thoughts and thought look at this silly made up name they chose, Handy lol
@@spek-27 I kinda agree, just wanted to drop that Beatles guy line lol. I love the behind the scenes stuff, sometimes there's so much they don't even get to something, like when Tom mentioned hosting once with Aerosmith as the musical guest I wanted to hear about the Wayne's World sketch with them where he was a roadie.
“How can you forget about a name like Rico?” -Tom
“Youu diD.” -David🤣
Tom Hank, what a guy to interview!
He practically did the thing by himself, asking questions and such.
I wonder if he'd ever do a podcast himself?
Tom is more pro interviwer than them. Commenting whats going in studio remembering its radio . amazing
@@dzenacs2011 I did not get the "commenting whats going in studio remembering its radio" but I agree with you - Tom Hanks is such a pro, there's no way to say it, you have to experience it (and I did while listening to this podcast).
@@Apollo440 well radio podcast same thing - one of the guys making faces forgetting hes just leaving audience with silencr and Tom says "Hes making a parody" like he was radio host
@@dzenacs2011 ah, gotcha, thanks for explaining. This is a good place to mention, how iconic those episodes would have been with a nice video to go along with the audio we have. But the good thing is - they can return to the same guests, if / as soon as they start doing those podcasts with video!
Also, Thats probably why Tom is one of the best actors out there because he engages and Watches the media not avoids it.
And he pretended to be interested in what Carvey and Spade were saying convincingly.
if you haven't seen those Jason & the Argonauts, still love them
this show is great guys :-)
A FAN HERE!! Greetings from Mexico City.
"How can you forget a name like Rico?"
"YOU did"
Fantastic haha
I can watch any Hanks movie every time I find it on! Castaway is 3 hours of just him. I watched " the brubs" yesterday for just the memories of hanks. Before Gump
Gump is so overrated
What is the brubs?
Tim Honks! 🎉🤯🥳what a guy… what a guy.
Tom seems like such a normal guy, both off and on screen.
Very down to earth. I'd heard that but now I get it, he just really seems to like people and being a fan.
This pod is hilariously great 😂
I feel like this would make such a good video podcast. I'd just love to be able to see David Spade's eye rolls
Yeah, Dana Carvery doesn't exactly have a ton of humility. I could imagine some choice reactions.
They do have video of the show, if you click on shorts its video..maybe behind a paywall? Idk they dont advertise for it, so?....
Flying around and then landing on this episode - drawing blood Brothers!!!
Hanks has the best karma.
A Tom Hanks movie is like a box of chocolate.
Good lord I got some catching up to do, when I first caught this podcast there seemed to only be a few, then I kinda forgot about it for awhile and now as I listen to this I scroll down and there's so many and everyone I really want to hear, Dennis Miller, Judd Apatow, Ben Stiller, Sarah Silverman, Lorraine Newman Chris Rock, Adam Sandler. Looks like they even did one with Lorne Michael's. Can't wait to listen to all of these.
The podcast was removed from RUclips for a period of time for some reason. I think when it came back, they reposted all the shows with the current date. So some of these may be older than the date shown on them.
Same
Apostrophe. To be or not to be.
Awesome
The Sis, in the sis -boom-bah could have been the “ssssss” sound of a fuse…
Back in 1974 a bomb was always depicted as a bowling ball with s fuse, or 6 sticks of Dynamite with an alarm clock wrapped up on top with twine .
Yes, you're absolutely right. It's the fuse sound, the boom of the explosion and than the "baa" sound of the sheep. I couldn't even remember that's what a sheep is "supposed" to sound like. I think that was more in the zeitgeist on cartoons back then. But the idea of a sheep going "baa baa" is something I haven't thought of in ages.
I will humbly direct your attention to Tommy Smothers as Johnny Carson doing the monologue. I saw the clip on you tube , he did a fantastic job , good for a quick watch.
This is so crazy because I can't remember Tom on a single episode???🤔🤦♂️
I thought I had seen them all!
I was born in 84' and the late 80's and the 90's were the best ever. I'm actually proud to say that my childhood was filled with memories of the best SNL cast and Michael Jordan and his championships with "Da Bulls" 😅🙏
I only remember the cold openings of the 5 timer club with him but not much more
Dudes!!!! It's time for the Norm MacDonald tribute show. Also the Phil Hartman tribute.
Great to hear Tom sounding just like the Tom we've all known and loved for decades.
Big was my first Tom Hanks exposure. That movie really rocked my world...although I was probably paying more attention to Ms. Perkins back then.
I still am!
Love this
'Shar-Day' 😄! Oh Hanx.
Yep...one of the few to pronounce her name correctly.
Jason & the Argonauts!
It's crazy I never heard of any of these guys but it's a great show😊
I had forgotten how totally u hinged the McLaughlin Group stuff was. Now I understand how Dana could have started his sketch show with Clinton nursing puppies.
Joe Vs The Volcano is the greatest film ever made.
This podcast is funny.
Aw, hell! Nah hah dah! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love show. Love chemistry of u guys. Please do a shoe with for spade and dana each have ur own show like documentary for each do it good like 3 parts each life story. Love u guys u fill the craziness haha
Lol at Spade not getting Carnac’s “sis boom bah” because Hanks told it wrong.
It’s “describe the sound made when a sheep explodes.”
Surprised Hanks didn’t quote the “Turner and Hooch” one. “What’s a rude thing to do to girl in church.” The funniest one was Hershey Bar…”Roseanne’s chunkier sister.”
got me cracking up 10 mins in
off on a tangent, but i just realized Dana Carvey IS Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon! Have you ever seen them together?
Who wouldn't want to be pals with T Hanks?
Tom's brain is a steel trap. Not only that, but it all seems to be archived and accessible.
Tommy Smothers did Carson on his last night. Great!
Tonka Toys did not lie when they were made of die-cast metal. Those could be run over by a car and be fine.
Great to have Tom Hanks on the show!! I missed him! He seems to be in hiding these days! I don't blame him, I would do the same if I was him!...LOL.
21:25 They played Israeli electronic store owners and it was actually " Toshiba Guts". That was one hilarious skit...... "I don't want to play" .... "Disco goood "
Rockum sockum robots were awesome
U guys forgot SPLASH! And BOOSUM BUDDIES
It feels illegal that this podcast is free
Wish yall had asked Hanks about being David S. Pumpkins
Sleepless on the mailman
Maybe one of the best episodes.
I had Silly Putty and bounced it into a coat closet. Looked everywhere and it was gone. Long time later my mom finds a melted blob in a coat pocket.
🥰 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 🥰
Is Dana ever doing a Dennis Miller impression?
I miss the McLaughlin Group, but also Dana's thing.
If they had named Spade's show Don't Shoot Me it would've lasted a couple more seasons.
You forgot to include Bachelor Party (1984).
It was mentioned.
The only wreck I have been in was when I was 18. I took my girlfriend who is now my wife of over 30 yrs to see Bachelor Party in Vincennes Indiana. On the way back to Washington IN our hometown a lady stopped real quickly in front of us and I hit her. So this is Tom's fault in a way, plus the lady. It was not my fault (though I was legally at fault). I do remember when I realized we were going to hit her I shielded my girlfriend. This is probably why she married me.
Tom could/should play Neil Peart for a movie about Rush.
Can I just say y’all forgotten the very beginning splash, and personally loved the acting and I loved their characters, but I just could not get into that fucking movie… It was too… I don’t know it just wasn’t my thing, but splash was a huge hit for him for them
Tom Hanks next movie pitch: Cast away 2
Tom is the Fed ex employee who gets a new job at Amazon to run the delivery department. Dana plays Bezos and feels bad for him so he sends Tom up in the blue origin and Houston we have a problem. Stock in space and the craft gets going too fast and escapes orbit. After his past he plans for this and he brings supplies for a few years. Bezos has to task Elon musk to go up and save him.
It's tough. I'm glad your guests are OK with it.
Ok with what?
Why do you guys end the shows when the guest wanna keep talking!??😭
Regards, Jim Pager.
I wonder why Alec Baldwin hasn't been on SNL for a while.
For some reason, that "hot shot" has been laying low...
Poor Gerald Nachman wore the cement shoes for taking cheap shots at Dana (46:50), I pity the foo' ...
VHR?
Hanks does a excellent job being faux nice and personable. Actually listened in for 10 minutes.
Then, you went back to Qanon? InfoWars?
So you're a Qnut?
Tom is cool and talented.
@@dadduorp
I love all that stuff, but I don't live my life by it. I think Tom is a good guy
There’s nothing faux about Tom Hanks from my point of view. it seems as if you just learned the word ‘faux’ and are trying to use it all of the sudden; only, it just doesn’t fit in this situation. 😂
Tom Hanks know how to do this and make it interesting and ask good questions, as opposed to the Chevy Chase podcast which is an absolute mess (because of Chevy).
Do you guys think all the years memorizing material has affected your memory positively or negative?
Toy Story 2 is Tom's best movie.
59
You guys need better thumbnails. the thumbnails look like a channel that just posts content that does not belong to them. its hard to tell its an official podcast with famous comedians as well as killer guests.
Kelsey Grammer 67 $80m
Do they discuss White Genocide in the USA, Canada, Cuck Island, Ireland?
Today's SNL is not anywhere close to the talent back then. Pretty much once Hader, Wiig, Armisen left it's been downhill. Also, 30 movies? Spade thinks he has been in 30 good movies???
You can stretch it out. That's what she said.
Spade how in the world have you not seen Chris Rock's documentary? That is despicable seriously... Like selfish.. really selfish. Your friend goes to great lengths to make a documentary and you don't even do him the courtesy of watching the damn thing. Dude that is unbelievable to me.
tom hanks is the greatest actor of the last 50 years not named meryl streep.
I thought you were going to move to Canada when Trump was elected? Never went eh
I believe he fled to Greece.
All I have to say is Kung Foo Grip, and I wanted to fill out a missing Persons report on my Stretch Armstrong. I think my mother and brother teamed up in that one, cuz I wouldn't let them over stretch him. I don't think he liked it but i can only imagine it was a pretty ugly ending for him before they buried him in the Garden. But don't think he didn't get back at them somehow, I mean they actually outlawed him for his contents which I bet Seeped right into my mohter's wonderful Tomatos. Which I can't help but notice resembled her thin skinned but very healthy. Those things must be a treat after the boiled chicken no salt or pepper. Desert is Cottage cheese and a slice of Mellon. Whould i like some? Dana were you a boosmm bud? Hollywood Min? That shit was funny. I think that 4am work whistle is still coming. Slinky worked it's these new small ones that piss me off.
