    I was gonna go a very similar route with my HD ramp but ultimately weve decided purchase an imperial outdoors xplore RV trailer. Primarily because A) we wanna stay off grid up to a month at a time so space and water were priorities B) going into out of town for something will be a lot easier if we drop trailer
    C) the superior insulation values make it 4 season full time liveable
    We have placed a deposit on that and ultimately we decided to with with an “off the shelf” junkyard flatbed and modify it to suit our needs.
    For the lift we have ordered carli ultimate.
    For fenders we are doing big AEV conversion along with AEV cattle guard style front bumper & winch.
    I got a smoking deal custom ordering my Ram so ~ $62k out the door (rented a place in montana to skip sales tax in all this shit lol)
    $74k for trailer
    Lift 40s method wheeks and bumpers
    $12k
    Labor $free.99 (me)
    $146k
    Net price will be lower with some creative tax work.
    While we do lose the convenience of one single vehicle,

      Sounds like it is going to be an awesome set up! We love our set up but for long term off the grid water becomes and issue and even more so if you want to shower at all. Summer heat can be a problem too but we generally try to chase the weather as much as we are able to make it not as much of an issue.

    Hey Ov1.0,
    Wow, that’s a dream rig!
    Have you tried to jack the truck up from the sliders as Pete mentioned? It was my understanding that sliders are designed for light duty vehicles (half-ton and lower). I would be hesitant to agree that the weight of the truck can be supported with those sliders, especially after the mods done to them to make them fit (longer arms to attach to frame). It’s usually why I never see sliders on an HD truck; they can't support that kind of weight.
    It would be amazing video if you showed the truck being supported by those sliders!

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  3 года назад +3

      thx! We are very much enjoying it. I have not tried to jack up the truck from the sliders yet. They are white knuckle sliders. While they were modified by MLO to fit this truck, they are made for HD 2500/3500 trucks by white knuckle. The modification was because they make them for the 4 door 2500/3500 vs the 2 door 2500/3500. I'm sure I will have it on the sliders at some point though and will be sure to post it up when we do. Thx again!

    Just going to drool over your rig until we get ours. Did you get both maxx air fans or is one the fan and the other a vent? We just did one fan, but I’m curious how that’s working for you as far as temperature control with two fans (if that’s what you got) thanks!

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  3 года назад

      We got both of them. I spent about 3 hours in the rig a couple of days ago in 105 degree heat and having one fan draw air in and the other pull it out was almost as good as AC. I only had two of the windows open as well. I’m sure it would have been even better with all of them open. The other nice thing we are finding is when cooking it does a good job of pulling the “smoke” out over the stove but we also like a fan to blow on us while sleeping so having both powered allowed both of those things to happen.

    • @alisac8845
      @alisac8845 3 года назад

      Thanks for this! Good to know. Our order is already in, but might try and see if we can add the additional fan; sounds like a game changer to have both. I like that you can really control the temperature. If it was 105, which I believe since it was hot in SLC, then that’s a damn good test!

      Yes it is a Big Horn (or Lone Star if you buy it in TX). Went diesel because I didn’t want to ever struggle with feeling like it was under powered. Can you and others tell me you thought process for picking a Ram. We want to chose a truck for our slide on hawk and would love your views on why you went with the Ram. We are leaning towards the ford f250 and no diesel. It will be our everyday vechie as well. Were in south florida. I know all the different specs from reading Facebook and watching videos but I would a non bias opinion

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  3 года назад +2

      Sure! I think it mostly came down to looks and aftermarket support. Have always had a thing for the way the RAM looks over the other full size options and there are a few more options in the aftermarket for them when it comes to building them up. As far as the diesel option I didn’t want it to struggle in the least to carry the load and with the 850 torque numbers the Cummins has it was an easy choice. When we are fully loaded up with water and fuel and fully packed out bikes and all, we are just under GVWR (another reason we went 3500 with air assist vs 2500) meaning this rig will spend its whole life near max payload which isn’t a big deal for the diesel. The diesel should get better MPG than the gas option too which will add up over all the miles it is driven. Of course that is dependent on diesel prices staying close to gas prices.

    • @3920cruz
      @3920cruz 3 года назад

      Hope you don't mind me stepping in here. Before you choose your truck, you need to figure out how much weight capacity you need. For example, if your 4wheel camper weighs 1500 lbs. + water + gas+ all other stuff, etc... Figure out what you will carry in the truck and how much it all weighs, then you will have a better idea for truck type. I find most people need the capacity of a 1 ton because most people get a crew cab P/U with a few options and these pick ups weigh a lot and don't have enough capacity for weight carrying, even in the 250/2500 series of trucks. For example, a typical high trim F250 4x4 crew cab can top out 2800 lbs or there abouts. Not alot of capacity. You don't want to spend all that money for a truck that will be used close to its max payload capacity. Different brands of truck, well this is very political for most folks. Since you stated you did not want a diesel, I would consider a truck with a more conventional 8 cylinder build and stay away from turbo charged vehicles for better reliability over the long term. Another reason for this is turbo charged engines typically make the power at the higher RPM range or faster speeds and towing or camping with a loaded up truck is better to have the power at lower speeds and RPMs. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck!

    Very nice looking rig and build! We have a 2020 Hawk FB on our older 06 f350 and are loving it. If you go Carli you'll be happy. Lead times though lol... We're running their 4.5" Pintop system on 37" stt pros and it's been so nice on long 4+ hour dirt runs. We're able to roll along faster in more comfort. Not sure how cold of temps you're getting into, but we reconfigured our water system so it can be gravity drained anywhere. Pretty handy when driving thru changing climates. Built it out of 1/2" sch 40 pvc so we can source parts anywhere. You may be able to get your batteries into the same cabinet as your hot and cold water manifolds to free up that dinette storage as well as the old battery box. We are also running a Chinese diesel heater that's been awesome. It landed in the cabinet with the hot and cold water manifolds. We're looking forward to ditching our 3way energy Hoover of a frig. Love your frig by the way! We've done our build on a budget and still are ha! But it's going good. Enjoy your travels and stay stoked you two! 🤙🏻😁

    Super cool!! I have a similar build. I have also had one on a factory PXL on 40's and will tell you, you made a good decision on skipping them. The 40's put the center of gravity up pretty high....37's too but 40"s that much more. When you think that alll your weight is siting 12-14 inches above the top of your tires it gives you a pucker on big lean angles. :). Two other things....3 Battle borns will fit in the battery box, how come the 3rd in the rear? You need to remove the black spacers but they fit. Last thing is if you don't know it already, the rear tires are likely gunna bottom out in your rear fenders. You might need to move the front boxes up and your back boxes back to make room for full articulation of the rear wheels. My current build wasn't as close as yours are and still rubbed. I have the Norweld fenders and just centered them and im good to go.. Really bad ass build!!!!! Thank you for sharing with us!! I hop to se you out on the road!!!

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Sean! I’m pretty sure I know your new and old rig. You had the road give way / the roll over in you PXL right? If so that was crazy and glad you survived it! And yeah now that I’m living with the 37’s and having had in the dirt a bit I’m perfectly happy not being on 40’s. I’m not sure why MLO didn’t put the 3rd battery in the box as I thought it would fit there also on other builds I’ve seen, but it hasn’t been a huge issue yet where it is. We have just been keeping bedding in there with it and haven’t missed the space it’s taking up so far. We haven’t had any rear rubbing that I’m aware of so far but I may not have gotten it flexed out enough to rub at this point, but we did have some front rub on the 13.5’s we are running and have done some additional trimming and such to mitigate it. Appreciate all the info and hopefully we will get the opportunity to meet in person at some point at one of the events if you attend any.

But ultimately, a full Prospector XL build with a camper is the goal once I get a truck back.

If you are in the area, I would love to meet up with you for some coffee to hear more about your journey & adventures. Its fine if you are not, I would still drive up to meet with you. The GVWR on the door is 11,800. We put it on the scale when fully wet (full water tanks and fuel tanks) as well as fully packed out for a trip including bikes and we came in just a hair under that so we are under GVWR which is good, but not by much. When it’s not packed out and full of fluids it is probably a good 600-700lbs less than that. Having said that some people think it weighed heavier than it should have an wonder if the CAT scale was as accurate as it should have been.
