I rented Spiderman Homecoming yesterday morning to try this as my fiancé slept feet away from me and WOW. Even better than my Bose speakers (stereo), and I love how when you get up to grab something the sound stays coming from the direction fo the TV. Magical. Damnit Apple.
Spatial Audio is incredible. I didn’t know Apple TV had it, but it does and it really matters. It’s much more impactful on a TV than on an iPad or iPhone, because how you tend to sit and move around when you watch a TV. On an iPhone it doesn’t really matter because you sit so close to the screen anyway.
I am watching movies in apple tv with airpod pro with spatial audio. It is great. I am thinking to also buy airpod max for this purpose only. Can you please confirm whether I would get much much better spatial effect in airpod max than pro??
I finally bought a set of airpods pro yesterday just for this feature to use on my apple tv 4k. Although the spatial audio works and I can hear the surround effect, I don’t find it as immersive as using the spatial audio on my iphone/ipad. The sound through the apple tv is a little less impactful and I find voices are harder to hear and everything plays with less dynamic range than it does on my iphone and ipad. For example, I compared the audio with the Star Trek(2009) and Top Gun between phone and aptv4k. The actors in Star Trek sounded like they were in a closet. Hopefully a future update will improve the experience.
Do you have issues with lip-sync while using the airpods with the apple tv cause I have jabra elite 75t earbuds and when I paired them with my apple tv there’s a full second of audio delay which is ridiculous. Now I’m thinking of buying the airpods if they don’t have a lip-sync issue since they’re also an apple product.
@@verycoolguy5947 I don’t have any issues with lip sync. They were great on the aptv. I also have the Samsung Galaxy buds plus and no issues with those as well. However my Sennheiser cx400bt have terrible latency with the apple tv.
Thanks! I think I have the same previous generation 4K that you have. As far as I can tell it works on ALL Apple TVs that support tvOS 15, which includes both 4K versions and the HD.
yes I believe Apple confirmed this will work on both the 4th and 5th generation of Apple TVs including both the 4K and HD models, but I don't believe it will on the 3rd gen or earlier due to lack of tvOS 15 support
Go Apple TV Settings >> Accessibility >> Airpods >> Centre Audio on TV = OFF You do not want the Head Tracking feature active when watching Movies and TV shows; just the Multi Channel Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos experience.
Great Recap; For Apple tvOS I only "updated" one of mine to the new 15 beta because I found glitches between tvOS 15 and plex media player (had to revert to old player) and also connection issues between Airpods Pro and tvOS 15. Did Apple come out and state the "order" you would connect the Airpods pro for use? I found that if mine were already connected and I put them in my ears, then select Airpods Pro, I had to take them out and then back in to get them to actually work.
I have not had this issue with the Apple TV but I've seen it with my iPhone, particularly when my Mac is also thinking I want the AirPods Pro paired there. Sometimes unpairing and reseting up your AirPods from scratch can help, but there are still lots of weird bugs with auto device switching and pairing across different Apple devices. I can't wait until we can get AirPods with two bluetooth connections at the same time.
Excellent heads-up. I was aware that this was coming with the TVOS update, but it was nice to see it in action and to hear your experience with it. I found it especially helpful to know that one should be looking at the TV whenever one turns this feature on. Thanks!
Would have been nice if you also had mentioned which Apple TVs currently support spatial audio, since my 3rd gen Apple TV HD does have tvOS 15 but can't reproduce spatial audio.
Great content! Thanks for that. I think it is not possible, but I would like to ensure: can I have spatial audio in my AirPod Max and standard audio in my TV at same time?
I don’t know about the Apple TV, Eric, but in iPad you can re-calibrate the direction of the sound just by pause-play the media you are watching and that’s it. hope this help.
I might need to update my apple tv HD to the 4k model just for this as I watch late night movies, shame it doesn't work on my older model. everything apple costs me more money ...
I dont want to rotate my head all the time to hear "spatial effect". I want to sit straight on sofa in headphones and listen not only stereo, but surround: with sounds coming from front, back, top, bottom. Like normal Dolby Atmos. Do you hear same? Or what is this spatial effect in your setup?
Haha good question Fredrik! I actually changed recently to staying up and doing my work on RUclips and personal free time in the evenings, instead of doing my RUclips work in the morning. As a result, I stay up later and sleep in a little more. I don't get up at 4:30am anymore.
The voices in movies sound a bit like a weak and clear audio because of Bluetooth. But the sounds of engines running on a plane ✈️ in movies 🎥 sound so much better with so much bass compared to my wired headphones from Sennheiser. It’s a must-have if someone wants to just be immersed in surround sound in Netflix and Disney+. So much surround sound and bass.
@@Draxxuzownzu It’s all content for spatial audio and stereo. It’s not that bad though. I still would choose these over a regular stereo headphones set. I say the difference is minor when hearing voices and people speak. But the trade off is well worth it. Not a deal breaker by any means. They are so worth it.
Hey Eric, great video. I just updated to tvOS 15.0 and with my AirPods Pro connected the spatial audio option is marked “not available” - any ideas why?
The content you are trying to watch might not have a surround sound mix. Unlike iPhones and iPads, Apple TV requires some flavor of surround sound audio to trigger spatial audio.
I think spatial audio for the most part is a nuisance. Most Amusic songs sounds like crap, like everyone is singing in the bathroom. If I "listen" to a youtube clip on my phone, with the screen on and the phone in my pocket the spatial audio-thingie thinks its a good idea to just have the sound on on my left airbud. I thought it would be an atmos-effect on the apple tv, but, just head-tracking. ONE time I really thought it was cool - I had my Ipad on my kitchen table showing a video while I was cooking up some food, and I went to open my fridge and walked away from the table and was "oh thats cool! It actually sounds like I took a couple of steps back from my ipad! huh! neat!" long story short - head-tracking is just stupid..
@@Grimshin1 The head tracking, I have no intention of trying to look to the left, right or behind me while i am watching a movie.. just to make sure that the screen is still ´in front of me’
Really? Please tell me how many phones support this feature, I’ll wait for your list. I can tell you that some Samsung phones have 360 (their version of spacial audio) but it’s limited and from the reviews I’ve seen online is inferior to Apple’s spacial audio. Also spacial audio is already more advanced and supported by more streaming sites. Apple Music also now supports spacial audio while Samsung is still playing catch-up not to mention other android phones don’t have anything close.
