- This video brings us to this USPS location , which was a rather small post office compared to other locations we.ve documented in the past. There were 2 postal workers behind behind the counter & no customers at the time we entered. Almost immediately the employees began with telling us that we weren't allowed to record inside the building & told us we needed to obtain permission from their district office a couple miles up the road. When asked if they were familiar with Poster 7 (rules & regulations on postal property) they said no . Eventually A woman came out from the back asking if we were recording for post office purposes, When she was asked if she was aware of poster 7, she did not know what that was either. I pointed out to them that the document was posted on the wall behind where the female employee was standing. she stated that she couldn't see it & eventually went back behind closed doors. We continued our documenting back in the lobby area As one of the male employees again stated that we needed permission & i informed him that we already had permission from the United States constitution (freedom of press) under the First Amendment. He retreated into the back once again as we continued our recording. there was no further incident & police were not seen in the vicinity while we were doing our documenting.

I can't believe that the post master doesn't educate his employees, especially on poster seven .
I love how confident these twonks are while talking complete and total Bull! I find it worrying that the post office manager has no knowledge about poster 7 yet all employees are required to read it, that's why they have a copy out back as well as in the post office!
Poster 7 is EXPLICIT PERMISSION TO TAKE Pictures and Video in all public spaces in and around the Post Office!!! You need to announce that Loud and Clear!! And you should contact the Postmaster and Let him know that the poster needs to be placed in a readable place at eye level! And all employees must be trained on the rules of conduct!!
No permission is needed to take photographs on postal property for news purposes in entrances, foyers, lobbies or corridors. See 39 CFR 232.1(i).
Knowing the rules of your workplace is a hugh part of the job. Wow!
Why postal employees do not know about Poster 7 is beyond me USPS management is so inept they cannot even denominate this information to the employees.
If public service messages were aired on TV stations 24/7, I doubt they would get it.
Even worse, you can look up the post office memo that was sent to all post offices that said to leave photographers alone.

I was in my local post office, and they told someone that they couldn’t take a photo of someone’s dog because the post office is a Federal building. Poster 7 was on the wall, so I asked the employee if Poster 7 was in line with what he said. He looked at it probably long enough to read five words, and walked back behind the counter where the mail is sorted. I think Poster 7 needs a dumbed down version for postal employees.

What amazes me is that these auditors don't go out and scope out the post office before hand and know where the location of the Poster 7 is beforehand. This way they can point it out to the postal worker directly but then and again most postal workers don't really care.
Curious as to the training protocols if standing under Poster 7, she claims to not know where Poster 7 is or what it says.

Speaking of a wide open dock area.
I do not remember who did the audit but they did a post office and discovered 5 carts of mail sitting on the dock within public reach and no one making sure nothing disappeared.
When the auditor pointed out the lack of securing the mail the employees freak out and called the cops to have him arrested for tampering with mail.
The video clearly showed he did not go anywhere near the mail and the butt hurt employees shut down the post office.
That is your tax money at work people.

That was done in Tumwater Wash, near Olympia, and he returned later and it had not changed !!!

Why would they put the Poster 7 so HIGH that no one can read up like that?! These employees are so ignorant or was not taught by their supervisors, is a HUGE FAIL!!! Either they get educated or get sacked!

These employees are the result of Diversity-Equity-Inclusion hiring practices. The Federal government hires marginalized people to make things more equal. Here we have a foreign born worker who can barely speak English, one idiot wearing a face diaper & another who is obviously a moron. It would take 5 min to make sure ALL post office workers know what poster 7 means and what to do, but NO because someone from the outside (public) have asked/told them about it they mostly ignore it and then make their own laws up like these guy's in this PO. lazy Postmasters on $400k a year put staff and public in danger as well as stressed because the lack of education. and 5 min of our time.

It is shameful that Postal Employees, even more, a Supervisor does not know Poster 7 which they already have posted on their own wall ! Good video and I commend you for being so patient and tried to educate these three people which are the worse representation of what the public see when they do business in the US Postal Service !

This whole situation by First Amendment auditors entering into post offices could be fixed from management by one email stating please do not hassle people who have cameras that are on the Post Office property. Yet management has not done this. What does that tell you about management's common sense?
At what point does the post office send out a simple communication to all branches and Post masters that filming in publicly accessible areas of the post office is legal. No postal employee may interfere in the legal filming in the public space under penalty of law.
The PostMaster General has already done that. In addition, Rogue Nation carries a copy issued by the postmaster of his State(FL) whenever he does a Post Office audit, I have no doubt all Postmasters received the Postmaster Generals memo, whether they have passed the information on to their perspective Post Office managers is not always clear. Often times when RN shows them his copy asking if they have received it, some say yes, others just don’t answer😏
The PRIMARY purpose for the cameras in the post office is to record the employees, not the customers. Employee theft is their #1 cause of loss.

The post masters of the individual post offices look at them & some will post an updated one and some then put them in the trash. The employees never know the poster 7, rules. They mostly are just really stupid. If you take them to the poster 7, they still refuse to read it. Listen to him! Has no idea of poster 7.

This video needs to be used as a corporate training video for all public and primate companies as an example of bad management practices. Workers who obviously haven't read their handbook and a supervisor who was shown the policy and still denies its existence.

That counter person that was on the phone was getting a call back after someone checked into it and told him that filming was allowed. His short, direct answers of "yes" and "gotcha" fits the script of those being told the rules. Think he eventually told the others.

I find it INCREDIBLY hard to believe that some postal workers are STILL being actively trained that photography is illegal in a post office. It should be SO easy to correct yet UPPER management fails (refuses?) to address the issue.

Your videos are always great but this one left me wanting more . I would have liked to see you or sidewalks 22 educate them about poster 7 and public photography before you left. The visit just seemed to be lacking without that education.

This is a tough one considering the employees were ignorant of poster 7 and your rights but then again 95% of all postal employees are. But they also didn't unduly harass or threaten you and either did not call the cop or were educated on the phone and remained passive with not much more than mild back and forth debating which is notable as well. It's a tough one..

Every postmaster in the United States should be trained and then required to notify the supervisors and all staff at their location of the policy regarding filming in the United States post office the employee signs a waiver saying that they understand it. They get one violation of it, and after that they are terminated…… And not able to be rehired at any post office in the United States……. it is absolutely ridiculous that in 2024 these flipping postal workers don’t even know what the policy is.
Management at post offices is apparently nonexistent. Usually the Postmaster is never on site, and the staff seems pretty much ignorant of customer service at many of them.
I find the waffling when responding to the misinformed frustrating. When told you can't record, tell them they are wrong. When asked why you are recording, what is with the "I can't disclose that right now"? Of course you can. You choose not to. Big difference.
if you tell ppl they are wrong straight out...they will get defensive. ppl do not like being told that. better to make them think they are right even for a while and remain mysterious to keep them from going nuts.

I wish auditors would stop throwing around terms like "Poster 7." Even if that is technically what it is called, the term doesn't mean anything to anyone. Just refer to them as the post office rules.
Don't ask an employee, "Are you familiar with Poster 7?"
Instead just say, "Your rules are right here on your wall. They said I can record."
