Yup she needs to listen the live version in rock Rio then from there she can decide with iron maiden if she’s going to react to lives or studio versions but I’m guessing she will do live versions.
For me the best live version is the one by Hesinki in 1992. Unfortunately it is not known because it does not have any video, neither official nor amateur.
Another two great songs from them is "Bring Your Daughter to the slaughter" & from the album Live After Death the song "Hallowed Be Thy Name" the vocals on this song are tremendous!
If you could go and see any live version of any song they’ve ever done, you will be absolutely amazed. They are my favorite heavy-metal band of all time. Love these guys and they’re still going on today.
They haven't lost a step. They're around legal retirement age, and they sprint across the stage playing and singing. Then they play a full game of soccer against locals the next day. Then Steve's side project has a concert. Then it's off to the next city, rinse, repeat.
I saw Iron Maiden live in 2010, and when this song came on everybody was singing the introduction melody. It was so amazing to be part of our experience and share it with everybody else.
Fear of the Dark is a great song and a big live favourite. I think that quote must be about the Fear of the Dark album that's too inconsistent to be great. Wasted Years would be a good choice as next Iron Maiden song.
My god, your external reaction to this perfectly mirrors my internal reaction every time I hear this song, from the involuntary headbanging to the compulsive lip syncing to the random hand gestures lol. Thanks, this made my heart happy!
You need to watch the live version, it's a must watch! Also Rime of the Ancient Mariner from Flight 666 is a total must watch!! Great reaction. 👏🏻👏🏻#UpTheIrons
I am 46 years old now, I listend to a ton of different music and genres, but I will always come back to Iron Maiden, best band in the bloody world. Up the Irons 🤟
Being a fan since 82, and as much as I love their albums, Maiden must be experienced LIVE to fully appreciate them. The stage set, the lighting, the crowd singing with the band, Bruce running around the stage like a mad man, and of course EDDIE!
Been a maiden fan for a very long time and I don't like this song when hearing the recording but LOVE this song when hearing it in a live setting. When70,000 fans humming along to the rhythm and singing every note while Bruce is singing it very overdramatic, it's truly magical. Maiden is just one of those bands that are better live then they are on recordings. UP THE IRONS!
This is one of their best songs, although they literally have hundreds of great songs through all the decades of their existence. Every one of their albums has some sort of historical based song as well, which is really cool. I took in a cassette, yes, back in 1989 when I was a freshman in high school, and played Alexander The Great in history class. The teacher was very surprised. Iron Maiden is one of the very best metal bands, period.
Diane, The Iron Maiden! I really like Steve Harris's galloping bass lines in this. This would be good to see live. Bruce's theatricality is great to watch. He sings to the dude in the last row of the arena.
This is a song where the crowd uses to participate a lot chanting the melodies and choruses. Perhaps that is why many of us love it. Looking forward to hear the Irons once more down here in Mexico City in November!
Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands. I've seen them live many times. I highly recommend checking them out live if you ever have the opportunity. Bruce's vocals are haunting. Nikko's drums are amazing. Again, I put them in my holy Trinity of music... Aka the three "M's"... MetallicA, Megadeth and 'Maiden.
Happy Wednesday to you Diane! I have heard of Iron Maiden before, but yet I don't follow too much of their music. Looks like you had enjoyed them judging from your reaction, which is always genuine. Thanks for sharing this as always Diane. Have a great rest of your week! 👋😎💯
Wow, Diane! Your openness and genuine curiosity about exploring new music are truly inspiring. It's fantastic how you dive into the essence of each song, dissecting its themes and melodies with such enthusiasm. Keep shining your light on these classics!
If you ever have a chance go to their concerts, they are touring this yr. I hope to take my 2 sons they are of age now and they want to see them live. We live in Texas.
Great reaction, Diane. Some other Iron Maiden songs that are awesome and I think you should react to are: "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Rime of The Ancient Mariner", "Dance of Death", "2 Minutes to Midnight" and "Run to The Hills".
They are very melodic, beautiful, very emotional and sentimental, powerful, energetic, vigorous, dynamic, moderately heavy, dramatic, versatile at the same time and well-balanced! And that’s very unique, rare, very creative, and very influential! This song is one of the best songs ever, for me! And it’s iconic song in maiden catalogue and in the genre, and is played almost in all concerts and shows, with crowd interaction and chanting especially with the melodies and guitar lines! I don’t think it’s a divisive song, but of course, as most and all things in life, people have their opinions, but there is a difference between personal taste (liking or not) and talking ignorant, cluelessly, hatefully, arrogantly and randomly shit about it!! Their songs are journeys and stories mostly! And mostly they are more metaphorical and figurative, with some literal meanings! They mainly and mostly talk about existential experiences and pains of life! And their lyrics mostly are very artistic, emotional, poetic, beautiful, deep, figurative, honest, and different, especially emotionally and aesthetically! “When i’ walking the dark road, i am a man who walks alone”! In a nutshell they have it all in a very well-balanced manner, at least often!
I've been following your channel since you started, but don't recall your facial reactions ever being so expressive or such a dream to see, than for this reaction! What a song! Brilliant song, brilliant reaction.
Iron Maidens Fear the Dark song has a lot of really good guitar riffs from soothing to shredding guitars. I can see why a lot of people like this song.
Diane, Thank you to be so open minded. I Like your enthousiastic reaction after the intro whzn Bruce unleash all the power of his voice ... and that the music explodes !
You really need to listen to the live version they did in Brazil on their "Rockin Rio" album. They do a great job and with the large crowd chanting and singing along with the song, it's actually as good or better than the studio version.
If you like a song that has a story then Iron Maiden is definitely the band for you! I think a lot people assume that heavy metal is all serious and angry but watch a live Iron Maiden show and everyone’s just having a huge amount of fun. Look for the live version of Rime of the Ancient Mariner and prepare for a journey!
I'm not a hardcore fan, though I've listened to and have got most of their albums. This one is my favourite as a whole - it's accessible, digestible even to non-metal heads, yet still powerful and very mature. The song is in my 5 top favourite from the band, "Afraid to shoot strangers" may be my number one (same album). The record also has a beautiful ballad "Wasting love" and two smooth power rides "(Hell is) From here to eternity" and "Be quick or be dead". "Judas be my guide" is also worth at least a listen and a read of lyrics. Tell you what: there are over 600 albums in my collection - symphonic, baroque, opera, jazz, blues, country, rock, disco, pop, hard rock, rock-and-roll, folk and meditation music - and "FotD" gets a whole run at least twice a year.
This was a good reaction video to watch with the sound off just to focus on you moving your head, your positive facial expressions, and your general enjoyment to the music
Iron Maiden was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that started in the late 70s. Another band from that era was Judas Priest. My favorite Priest songs are The Sentinel and Stained Class, but a lot of people react to Painkiller. Dreamer/Deceiver is also a great Judas Priest song.
@@DianeJennings Judas Priest just released a new album, Invincible Shield, a couple weeks ago. It is freaking awesome. Now is the perfect time to give them a listen. Also, great call on reviewing Fear of the Dark.
No one I knew well was an Iron Maiden fan, I kind of felt they were a great wall of sound dance band but I can’t think of a single memorable track. However, their fans were very devoted to them so I’m sure you’ll have some comments from their fans. Thanks for a great video, it was fun to watch you rock out!
OOOOOOOH this is one of my absolute favorites from any band. Edit: this is one of those songs where most of the story is told with the guitars instead of the lyrics.
16 times I've seen Maiden live, from 1983 to 2022, and they just get better every time. Up the Irons!! And Bruce has a 4-octive range. Pretty freakin' impressive, and YOU, Diane, just became that much cooler in life now that you've experienced and enjoyed the greatest metal band to ever take the stage.
Iron Maiden are basically my favourite band ever alongside Motorhead and Saxon. Those three bands are my Holy Trinity! Maiden in particular however are my first love and are like a comfort blanket to me. While I've discovered God knows how many other bands over the years and have started to dip my toes into more heavier styles of Metal in more recent times, one way or another it always comes back to Maiden for me. I'll also say this much too, Fear of the Dark is an underrated album in my opinion! It's not on the same level as any of their albums from the 80's but it's a decent album in it's own right! 🤘 Some other Maiden bangers for you to check out: Caught Somewhere in Time, Killers, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Empire of the Clouds, Moonchild, 2 Minutes to Midnight Phantom of the Opera, Where Eagles Dare and Hallowed Be Thy Name. Besides Hallowed Be Thy Name, 2 Minutes to Midnight and maybe Ancient Mariner I'd consider these songs to be deep cuts from Maiden's discography but they're all excellent tracks. I'd give more suggestions but I'd probably be here all night if I did! 😂
Thanks Diane! I don’t think that I have heard this song before. I liked the theme. Fear of the dark and the unknown is something I think most of us can relate to. That fear helped our distant ancestors survive so it remains with most of us today.
You should listen to Run to the Hills or Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Many people will tell you Trooper is also great. Also, I nominate Diane for the "Subpar at Award Naming" award!
Also my First Time Hearing Iron Maiden Fear of the Dark. I have not listened to much Iron Maiden. I do like sharing the Music Journey with You it's even more Joyful hearing a new song at the same time. I've Heard Iron Maiden's name a lot others saying They Rock and seen lots of Iron Maiden Shirts. Thanks for making Wonderful World Wednesdays Happy and Joyful.
Bruce Dickenson has one of the few musical voices who is capable of the ranges in which he sings. Even at their age (60s) their live concerts are a production that is 2nd to none. And who else has a rotting corpse as a band mascot??? NO ONE! Ya gotta love Eddie!
MAIDEN !!!!! One of my favorite metal bands , my favorite album is the number of the beast though they have many since being formed in 1975 by Steve Harris, his daughter Lauren 39 is also a rock singer and actress, maiden still tours and are very popular around the world, new york
It is so great to see younger folks (as I think this video does not have a VHS quality to it) enjoy my beloved band.Up the Irons, and remember to enjoy it more (and more metal music, as it is so fabulous!) \,,/
Hi, I really enjoy your videos because you "live" the music you're listening to. As for Maiden, yes, this song isn't one of my favorites, for various reasons (the lyrics aren't as inspired as in other Maiden songs, for starters) but when played on stage, it really shines because of the vocal range it requires. If you've still got time for more Maiden music, you should try several songs from the Seventh Son of A Seventh Son album, such as The Evil That Men Do (this one, on stage, wow...) or Only The Good Die Young. This album is my favorite by IM. Cheers!
Great reaction..but always you have to do Iron maiden live concerts reactions...the sound quality is studio like but the shows are what is Iron maiden.😊
The song is on the band's permanent setlist of songs they play at every show. It's not their best song, but it's up there in popularity. The live version is even better (and I like studio over live versions) Bruce doesn't really use falsetto. He does use the 3 voice registers, but mostly 2. Many refer to these as Chest voice, Mixed voice (combination of chest & head voices) & Head voice w/ Falsetto as a different entity altogether. (There's also the whistle register). Bruce mostly sticks to chest & mixed voices w/ rare head voice appearances. He stays in his chest & mixed voice in this song. fyi. The band also sings about historical events (like in The Trooper) and tell stories (like Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Based on a poem)).
One underrated song I love is Holy Smoke. But watch the very low budget video for it. Another B side they did was Sheriff of Huddersfield, all about their manager.
I think the sense from fans that this song is subpar for Iron Maiden comes from the fact that it is too popular. Fans like ownership of a song, so if everybody likes it, that diminishes it. And this is a song with an metal a cappella version, and a version played on two cellos. They also play it too much in concert. I saw their last tour. For their next tour they are doing something daring, only three songs are repeated from the concert I saw, and the rest of the show is their latest album and their sixth album (critically acclaimed but not one of their most popular albums). But Fear of the Dark is one of the three they are playing again. The problem is that it fills a niche of storytelling songs, and the others tend to be even better. I don't know if I will go to this show again, but I definitely would if they were doing Dance of Death, or what may be their masterpiece The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. But my sense is that they are doing Fear of the Dark instead, because they are similar types of songs. It is just that the other two are better.

Cheers!
All Your Dances Diane makes Me Dance and Bring Me Happy Joy.
Great reaction..but always you have to do Iron maiden live concerts reactions...the sound quality is studio like but the shows are what is Iron maiden.😊
Hello Diane. Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden is also a pilot.
the live version is something to behold.
The song is on the band's permanent setlist of songs they play at every show. It's not their best song, but it's up there in popularity. The live version is even better (and I like studio over live versions)
Bruce doesn't really use falsetto.
At 1:16 I like Your reaction dance look to the video with looking off into space as the guitar riff plays.
😂
@@DianeJennings 😂💃🕺🎸🎉☘😊
With the rhythm and melody! 😄 the power if maiden
You should listen to a live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name too.
This is one of the few songs that sounds way better live than it does on the album.
As Diane would say, "That's some great Emo music"😂
“Emo”???
@@osamaqtaitat If you watch her other band review videos, you'll get the joke
Iron Maiden are a religion 🤟
At 8:01 I love it too how the song goes back to being pretty and soothing.
All the song is pretty, emotional, energetic, soulful, beautiful, like almost usual maiden
It's nice to see you getting into it.
Great Band. My dad introduce to them while he would drive me around before I had a license.
I enjoy the music reactions with just the audio, my attention isn’t split
One underrated song I love is Holy Smoke. But watch the very low budget video for it. Another B side they did was Sheriff of Huddersfield, all about their manager.
"Run to the Hills" is a great song as well and an under appreciated history lesson!
GREAT watching the reactions of our Irish rock chick 😀
