    Olive undertone is always forgotten. Which is why it’s been a challenge to find my perfect foundation match. You may be olive if you tan easy, look nice in both gold and silver, have a mixture of blue and green veining. You may look “sick” when you don’t wear make up

    I am obsessed with this topic, but still not 100% confident about my undertone. I am some kind of neutral, and to the purists who feel like even neutral undertone people lean either cool or warm, I cannot disagree, and THINK I lean warm. (Next to my daughter, I read yellow; next to my South Asian friend, I read pink.) I may have a peach undertone - I have the Terri wheel, too, and come down closer to orange than either red or yellow. But I notice that beyond complexion shades, I like cool lipcolors, blush and eye colors better on me - not too cool, but on the cool side. All of which confounds me on a regular basis. lol Your explanations are clear and helpful, and this is one of the better vids on undertone that I've seen (and I've seen a LOT)! Cheers!

      Same here, I also suspect I'm some kind of peach but I am still so confused and after watching tons of videos and trying tons of shades, I still didn't find my perfect shade. The closest one I found looks like my undertone when I swatch it on my cheek, but when I put it on it makes me look sickly as in, I need blush and bronzer and stuff to make me look alive again, it's so weird. Still, with my social anxiety I find it hard to go to sephora and make them swatch me and all that.😅

    I can't believe after all this years I FINALLY realized I'm warm olive... Even when my veins are green and golden looks the best on me (the test that we find always on the internet) I was always questioning if I was truly warm because my face and neck get red really easily since I have sensitive skin and flush constantly (my nickname has been "tomate" for so long lol you can image) but when you said that we should compare our chest to the color wheel, the green is so obvious. Also, I live in a tropical country and have medium skin so I'm always tan and I don't know why I always associated darker skin = red undertone, but even in the color whell you can see dark skin that has a green undertone and it looks really different than a dark skin with red undertone. I've been comparing different parts of my body with the color whell for minutes wondering how I never realized the green undertone haha I'm blown away! Thank you so much 👐🏽

    3 things: (comments/tips are welcome!)
    ▶ When you said that the yellowish colour looks better in real life than on camera, it made no sense to me, because your skin is actually on camera too, so both should match on camera, and match in person, but not in person/camera.
    ▶ Regardless of all the ways you can identify your tone/colour, I've found that if you buy a foundation brand that oxidizes a lot, you'll end up looking orange. And colours can look perfect when wet, but get too dark once dry.
    ▶ So many RUclipsrs make awesome makeup looks videos and the final result totally matches the rest of their bodies (usually tan/warm or olive), but it's absolutely obvious that they're wearing foundation (no matter the quality of the product and application) because you can see the demarcation around their lips, their eyebrows, their upper lip, their sideburns (and worsens throughout the day)... So you see pinkish skin peeking out and it's not great. It feels like there's no winning. 😕

    • @IvyBoyd
      @IvyBoyd  Год назад

      thank you for your thoughts on this topic. I do makeup for camera work (I'm a full time makeup artist, not RUclipsr!) and I've noticed yellow undertone foundation seems to pick up far stronger. I've realized that while yellow undertone foundations work for me, ideally, I'd choose olive. Since rosacea is skin condition, it's entirely possible that you could have that with an olive undertone. In this instance, I would look more to your body for your true undertone. Unfortunately, olive undertones are more rare to find but I just made a list of all the brands that actually DO offer a true olive undertone. Something else you could try would be adding a small bit of blue color corrector to a yellow undertone foundation! Here are the brands that do olive though: shopmy.us/collections/129680

      Look up color analysis videos like Carol Brailey. She talks about looking at your eyes and hair to, not just figure undertone, but figuring if you're summer, fall, spring or winter to figure what colors you look good in. This is a link to the eye/undertone video.

      isn't red cool undertone? warm undertone is yellow

    • @victoriataylor5584

      @@thiya4627remember red is actually neutral. Red can be bluish red (red violet), or warm red(orange red).

      Yellow can be cool(pale yellow), or warm yellow(orange yellow).

    Everyone is very confused by my skin... even professionals. I have super pale skin that doeally tan but it doesnt burn. People can't seem to figure out if my veins are green, purple or blue. I have freckled and hyperpigmentation. I looked great in rose gold, silver, gold and bronze tones. I feel like my undertones change. I look really yellow sometimes but then very cool other times. It's really hard for me to find makeup cause I feel I always just make it work. Neutrals are usually too neutral... but cools are usually too pink... olive based tanners look bad on me... and most self tanners go too orange on me. So I'm frustrated and confused. Haha I wish I could just pay someone to come assess my undertones once and for all.

      This actually exactly describes me too! I have a lot of yellow overtone on my face but nowhere else and that adds to the confusion.

    Does Sephora still do the Pantone Color IQ match test in store? In 2024?

    • @IvyBoyd
      @IvyBoyd  2 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately not! Their Pantone partnership ended and they are now using their own system. I've tried it and the match was definitely incorrect. Such a bummer because I felt that the Pantone one was quite effective.

      @@IvyBoyd well that's a bummer. I called today and they said they still did color IQ but I didn't specifically ask if it was Pantone. Maybe I'll just skip it then.

    Me, thinking I have a warm undertone hearing that MAC does their colours in reverse: “Wait, but I’m an NW20!” Then I try it and it looks absolutely orange on my skin. LOL
