Justine Leconte officiel Joyeuse Pâques!! I have a neutral undertone et ca me fait chier que chaque fois,, les filles Chez Sephora insiste que I am warm! Just coz I'm Asian! lol
The first time I ever heard about undertones is when I was a freshman in high school. I’m 48 now and I still haven’t been able to figure out what my undertone is.
I found the info about the skin tone only few days ago. Always loved the warm-toned clothing and always thought "I'm so ugly, I look like Gollum, why life". ...Now I put the light cold-pink shirt on, the big silver earrings, and the result is not just great: it's changing my mindset, changing my self-esteem to the best. I realize now: I don't look sick, I'm not ugly, and I can be pretty too. Thank you.
Apart the jewellery one that is really confusing for me because I am 100% cool toned I’ve had it confirmed by 3 different beauty experts but silver jewellery looks horrible on me
@@lbaf1209 I think that even within silver, there is a range of tones which may be your match. For example, you may look good in dark silver coloured jewelery, while others would look more good in a light silver, white goldish coloured jewelry. It really depends on the depth of the colour of your skin tone and undertone as well. Hope this helps. ❤
isabella It is likely that most neutral toned people will lean slightly warm or cool. Think of it as a range within each category: warm, neutral, cool.
I had to do a whole change of wardrobe but, if wearing a color that isn't your tone then put a proper color scarf around your neck (skin tone) and that will pop out and you will look fab. I have done this many times.
You are the first person I found who explained this the way I could understand it and apply to myself. Thank you! I appreciate how knowledgeable you are. Keep the good work!
Thank you for talking about neutral skin tone. I have an art background; so I understand warm and cool colors. I’ve tried to fit myself into either a Dark Winter or Dark Autumn box. Neither works. Colors at the extreme of either pallet just don’t work. I can’t go too cool or too warm. Veins are teal, and gold and silver both work. So undertone really is on a continuum. I would like to see some videos about neutral undertones as most color “experts” do not subscribe to the idea of neutral.
This! I keep thinking I’m losing my mind bc I have to mix from both types. I’m safer with cooler, but some cool is still TOO cool, and if I happen to get a tan, all bets are off and everything has to change again. I remember having different foundations that leaned cooler or warmer based on the season bc that’s how dramatic the change was from summer to winter if I tanned a little. (I’m probably a fair-skinned neutral.)
If you have some ash (or greyish) color in your undertone - that is a different story! I am neutral, but because of grey in my tone I can’t wear bright colors (both cool and warm suites me if they look a bit dull)
@@Sidera17 I'm the same way, been described as a Autumn but can go Winter in an instant. I think I'm a light neutral. Yellowish ,green with red undertones? What?
@@csc8697 Yes, so similar except instead I'm sort of Neutral than leans toward Cool undertones. (I also have an inflammatory skin condition on my face, so my FACE is cooler because of the pinks than the rest of my body lol). Have you found any make-up brand that actually works for the greens mixed into the neutral?
@@Sidera17 not really. I had Urban Decay 3.0 I think once, but I looked so blah. My veins are bluish- green mix too. I do know that beige shirts by my face is horrible.
So, I am completely fashion-uninterested. Or, better to say, I was - before being "accidentally" introduced to your videos. Now I see how interesting and arty fashion can be. Unfortunaly, a lot of people in the industry, and especially so called influencers on the RUclips, seem to be very fake and too loud, in my opinion. They make fashion sound immature and "same-old-ish". Your videos are pure art. It is obvious how much you love what you do, how non-snobbish you are and how natural it all comes to you. They have almost therapeutic effect because of your calm demeanor and I really enjoy watching them. Also, I'm starting to pay attention to some details in my looks and it actually makes me have more self-esteem. Keep filming, it's really fun!
I have plenty of freckles in my shoulders and arms, and they look more beautiful when I'm in some colours. I also have three little freckles on my nose that only are noticeable if I'm wearing coral and other colors that suits me.
This is a brilliant video. Years ago, I had my colors done & found I had a "Spring" & slightly "Autumn" palette. I had a foundation mixed for me & was given a palette of fabric samples to use when shopping for clothes. If you wear the correct color, you will never have a bad skin day. Some whites work, but not all. Basically, I had fair skin with warm undertones. Even my hair color looked better. I remember my mom, who was an artist & dress maker, would drape fabric across me, close to my face, to choose a fabric when she was making me a dress or coat, etc. She knew what she was doing & I use to get irritated when I had to walk around as she determined the best color for me. I paid $$$ to find out what she had already taught me. Thankfully, I got to apologize to her. Great video.
The book Color Me Beautiful is probably still out there, it does a very good job of helping you figure out your season and I think it has examples of flattering colors for each. Once you determine your season and see the colors you will probably have an aha moment and picking the right colors becomes instinctive after that.
This is SO important for looking and feeling good. I was told I had warm undertones in my 30s and tried to make those colors fit all my life. At 64 I was feeling frumpy, tired, and unattractive. My neighbor always looks 'put together' even in work clothes. So I went for another analysis and was shown clearly that I was 'pink' or cool undertones. Wow, did my life change. I'm told I "look comfortable in my own skin, that I look "like myself". And I FEEL 'like myself' for the first time in years. I've changed my hair color, also. For me, it's worth every penny.
Same here. When I found out my color I change my wardrobe. I did went to thrift store and look for specific color. And the compliment is amazing they thought I buy my clothes in expensive stores, expensive clothes, they didn't realize I only dress with what my undertone good for me.
@dawdlebee strangely, I notice that in pictures 10 years ago I look definitely cool even after tanning. But I don't look so 'cool' now, I noticed in the end of summer I need more warmer colors, still orange and warm brows don't look as good. Could it be that with age our skin tends to get more sallow? Or maybe I need to change the lighting in my house :D
I remember wanting a white wedding dress but the shop owner said no, I needed to wear Ivory. That was the first time I realised colours mattered - as the difference was startling!
Excellent video! I began my Color Me Beautiful journey over 40 years ago! This is the best explanation I have ever seen for the very basic information from which our colors originate! Thank you so much! Great work! ❤
I could never tell... I think this changes with age, because in my youth I could wear only silver, but now i discovered that gold complements better my grey hair and new skin tone.... And that goes for the dresses too. The blue i used to wear is replaced now by earthy browns, aubergines and golden yellows...
Yes, the same happened to me. I still have dresses ok for me when I was a brunette, but it changed since I become silver-grey. Aging is a journey, we always re-discover ourselves.
Indeed. Just playing around with Justine's tips I noticed that I am not "in the middle", but both. Having done stuff like this (just a little bit, and with far less knowledge of colour theory than I have now) ~25-30 years ago as a teenager I got both confused *and* vindicated in my later empirical discoveries that I can indeed look good in warmer colours. Slowly going from cool/red/blue to warm/yellow/orange. But it seems to be in fits and spurts. Maybe depending on health and mood? And when it comes to what actually flatters you, I think you can influence that a whole lot with make up and hair colour (and also accent colours and combinations). I have some clothes that I now absolutely shouldn't wear without makeup. And some clothes that I couldn't wear without make up when I was younger. And just when I think about jewellery (of which I wear very little anyway), I've gone from wearing gold only if really made up and dressed to the teeth, and rarely at that, to silver now being "difficult" and needing all kinds of small adjustments not to look out of place and just wrong.
Hey Justin! amazing videos... I am little bit hesitant... I'm pale blue-eyed central european living in Italy and after years being here, I became more tanned. this is my uncertainty: silver and light grey and light cold blue looks best on me, but have orange undertone... according to the app... so I struggle to find the best non-neutral colours for my capsule. shall I go cool or warm?
Such helpful video for non-artists, Justine. Thank you! I'm 53 y/o and now just learning this officially! Instincts have guided me along with this all my life, but it's so great to have these tips! I will watch the one you have on skin tones too. Looking forward to watching more of your very helpful life tips! Thanks, and God bless!♥
shompurna gunjan I totally thought you were a teacher, Justine! I have learned so much already, and love listening to you. You need to definitely teach one day! You are a natural.
In my 30's I read a book that convinced me I was cool. At the same time, a consultant told me I was "warm". Well, she was the professional so I changed my wardrobe to oranges and felt blah most of the time. Fifteen years later a different consultant told me " you are a cool"! Color really does make a difference and getting the right one is important. Thank you Justine for your videos.
I honestly really don't know what mine is.. My veins are both blue-ish and green-ish, silver suits me best, but I also have a very clear yellow undertone... so, don't really know.. maybe i'm neutral
Johanna Steuer You sound neutral or beige. I'm exactly like you except that gold actually looks better on me than silver, although I wear silver the most. I find that mineral foundations like Alima Pure have perfect shade matches for neutral, beige, cool, olive, and warm skin types. I'm a beige 3 in their foundation and it's a perfect match. Neutral in their shade range works for me, but it's often just a touch too cool.
I have a warm undertone, and I thank you deeply for making me aware of this! Now I understand why certain colors look better on me, and which to donate right away.
I would factor your hair, eye color and personality into the mix as well. Black works fine for me. You can trade out the blue and white for a greenish blue or warm purple and cream. Every color family has a shade/tint/whatever for every type. Ex warm red, cool red, warm blue, cool blue etc. You have the true colors too that supposedly work on everyone.
I checked my undertone throughout applying different blush colors. I’ve always though peach was the best blush for me and I kept sticking to those, but I once bought a cool pink blush and after I applied it I realized how much healthier I look. I do use peach blushes still, but the most natural and flattering on me is cool pink. Btw the vein method never worked for me, so as clothing color method, because if I like the outfit, I don’t really see how it affects my appearance
Oh my goodness, this video was SO helpful. I always thought I was warm, but strangely it was the cool foundations that suited me best. Since shaving my head I became more adventurous with colour and found that the yellow/gold/bronze colours really make me look radiant, so I am definitely warmer undertoned, or at least on the warmer side of neutral. It's really good to know after all this time. xxx
Thank you Justine!!! You make it so easy to understand things :) i one of those ppl who receive the info better verbally. I found you not so long ago on youtube (feel very lucky :)) and the whole fashion world feels much more understandable and less scary. Thank you! :)
Im indonesian and here in indonesia most people have a yellowish skin tone, which could be deceiving. Im really shocked to find out that im more to a cool undertone, since my veins are blue, my neck skin is quite reddish next to a plain white paper, and most of my jeweleries are silver! but interestingly, my skin tone are more to a medium tan 😅
Justine can you explain this more on lipstick? I have cool skin undertone but I find very difficult to find a good lipstick which color doesn't make me look sick
I'm the same. I find bolder cool colours blue-pinks and blue-reds and for me, darker seems to suit better. Pinky-browns can also work. I stay away from anything orange or coral and warm browns look the worst on me. I look sick. I still struggle to find the perfect nude though, it's almost impossible. Don't know if that will help at all. Hope it does.
You may have neutral-cool skin like me! I find that neutral colors look better on me than extremely cool ones. (For example a tomato red looks better thank a pink red or an orange red) I've found that Plumful by MAC is by far the most flattering lipstick on me! It's like a darker version of my natural lips with some plum to it. Or maybe you could try Syrup by MAC if you want something even lighter! Hope this helps :)
Since i am a hijabie that explains why some scarves made me look so tired and highlighted the black spots under my eyes while some made my face looks healthy And why also that changes when i try to wear my black eyeglasses or wear a bandana underneath Really that explains alot Thanks alot for the video 😙😍 I have never really enjoyed a fashion video before but i have to admit i liked that one and think it makes alot of sense also
i think it's extremely important for hijaab wearers to know their colors! The face is all it's show and if the wrong colors are worn you would look sickly and tired.
This is great cause some people told me that i have a cool undertone just cause i am blonde and my eyes are blue. But actually all this test are telling me that i have a warm undertone. Thank you so much!
Justine can you talk about asian skin tones? Because many asians have actually olive skin (not necessarily j-lo olive, but for ex. i'm super pale and I actually look green sometimes) with cool and warm undertones on top of that. It's really hard trying to find whether I'm warm or cool because I have so much green in my skin.
Yes I was commenting the same thing! I'm not Asian, but light skinned and have a green undertone! But tbh I do feel like Asian skin is underrepresented in subjects like this
I'm with you. I'm not Asian but I have light olive/yellow skin. I'm definitely not a straight warm but not cool either. I consider myself neutral and it's really hard to find foundation. I also have redness in my face on top of that. Now I always mix green primer into my foundation. Clothes that make me look sick are khaki/army green and camel.
Yess! I'm glad I'm not the only one. My skin tone is really fair and my undertone is between warm and neutral but it is olive. I can actually look greenish or yellowish under some lightning or with certain colours mostly on my neck. Unfortunately we are rarely talked about. I'm not even Asian but I get so sad why everyone doesn't ever mention those skin types and seems ignorant about it 😔
This was so helpful because you demonstrated the concept in so many ways. I have tried the first three tests before and never could decide, so have always figured I was a neutral with some colors that just don't work for me. But then when you differentiated between the warm green and the cool one I knew exactly what you meant! I am a tomboy who is not into clothes -- but I need to look a certain way for work and special occasions. I love the way you break things down for the rest of us. Thank you for the brilliant videos Justine!
Sometimes the shade of gold makes a difference. Gold from India and Pakistan can be very yellow, and may not look good with moderately warm Caucasian skin. Gold with a slightly rose tint, on the other hand, looks fabulous. I am guessing that the traditional very yellow gold is common because it looks fabulous on the skin tones common in that part of the world.
I study arts and for our body paint class we were doing metals and had many different shades of gold some were more ashy, some more bright and some just very warm. It's interesting how much you can play with colours even gold :)
The gold is a permaloj of pure gold and some other metal so the colour of the final golden product depends on what was added to the plain gold. If it's copper then it will be pink gold, if it's silver it will be yellow gold, if it's more silver it will be white gold. If a golden ring or necklace or whatever looks dusty and kind of grey it means there's only 37,5 % of pure gold in it (yellow or pink, doesn't matter). Honestly the popularity of a certain colour isn't related with fashion or matching anybody's skin tone, it's based on natural resources of a country and economy, for example in Russia they have a lot of copper and only a little silver so Russian gold usually is pink.
Thank you so much!! I'm a make-up artist and I recently found new foundations that are amazing but it's very important to know the undertone of the skin to apply the right tone, and that was new to me, so this information is pure gold:)
Thanks for explaining. Your simple and clear explanations are better to understand than any other explanation I have found so far. I have a warm undertone based on all 3 tests. :)
Great video. I’ve found that draping with fabrics are the most accurate way to tell you your undertone. I always thought I had warm undertones. Turns out I look best in muted cool colors. What a revelation!
I know I am REALLY late to the party. I just found this channel and love it. I have a question regarding the colors people see. As we age, our ability to see color correctly and differentiate changes and diminishes. I had lens replacement surgery on my eyes a few years ago in my late forties. I hated wearing glasses because they were a hassle keeping clean but I couldn’t see details without them. My eyes are severly dry so contacts would literally fall out of my eyes within five minutes. I opted for the surgery. I had NO idea that your ability to see/distinguish color diminshes. When they did my first eye (they do them three weeks apart in case of issues) I was shocked at how much more vivid colors were. I spent most of the first day closing one eye, then the other to see how incredible the difference was between my old and “new” eye. It is literally is like watching the first color tv compared to a 4k tv. Short story long.....as you get older, don’t always trust your vision. Have a talk with your kids to tell them they need to let you know if your choice in colors (often those colors like the difference between the cool and warm green) is off. I was shocked to come home and see that things I thought worked together in the color scale actually didn’t. Any way to avoid this?
All those boring haul on you tube about how to dress, what to buy etc.... Most of those videos are boring you end up loosing your time and not learning anything axept how much they spend and what they buy zzzzzzzzzzz BORING !!! And all those girls and up looking the same. Then you have a french making a video on fashion and understand why they are the best at fashion. They know what they are talking about.... pure style !!! Not copying anyone or anybody just being yourself with great tips, it's an other level it's actually real knowledge. You make fashion smart and thank you for that. Great video thanks
your comment was boring and offensive. why do you call her " a french"? and people from france aren't the only people who are, as you say, "best" at fashion.
Justine, I learn so much from all of your videos so that I can't wait for the next one. I'd be so grateful to learn more about colors for both men and women. Thank you so much.
I am not interested in high fashion and trends, but you helped me a lot in this video and one another, because when I realised which is my undertone and that cold colors are for me, it made me so much easier to decide about haircolor, and shorten my time when I need to buy new clothes (especially because I do not like so much to go to shops and walk around trying clothes).
I feel like that's the case for warm people when they wear cool toned outfits so the colors wash them out and they look a bit sick. But if I as a cool toned person wear warm tones I just look uglier and kinda like dirty😂
I will be sharing this with my photography clients because it is super helpful! I studied fine art and also had that exercise of mixing skin color...so difficult! Thanks for this info and easy ways to apply it!
honestly its either to yellow, gold or pink and if you have to buy 2 foundation to counteract each other and the foundation you use is 50$ that's friggin 100$ just on foundation most men will never know the struggle unless they use makeup themselves
Gabrielle Geleta it's a nightmare. In the USA Camera Ready Cosmetics has some samples you buy and can test. I recently got Alima Pure mineral (it might be at Nordstroms). They sell samples on their site too. I tend to mix mineral with a lotion for a cream foundation. Alima carries warm, cool and neutral lines.
Gabrielle Geleta omg right. I’m half Cherokee Indian and half Scandinavian it’s horrible finding foundations. I usually just have to try my best and buy two and mix them every single time I’m wanting to try Kat von d’s so bad.
always thought I was neutral until maybe 6 months ago. Changing my foundation has been key. After your explanation, I understood why I always favor the cool tones in blue and so, thank you so much.
I also had doubts about the undertone of my skin. Then I once compared the skin on my hand with my friend's hand and it was immediately clear that I was on the warm side and she was on the cool side.
I believe the jewellery tip (silver or gold) is the best measure. I had my colours 'done' by Colour Me Beautiful years ago and saw instantly how dreadful gold looked on me. Likewise holding yellow up to my face made me look really Ill! I now have only silver jewellery and clothes are all from the deep winter palette. I went to this analysis with my cousin and we swapped wardrobes afterwards! She was Autumn (all my clothes at the time) and luckily she had all the vibrant jewel colours. Also luckily we were roughly the same size with similar style choices. It has been so useful since and makes shopping much quicker.
Thank you so much, Justine! After 30 years, I finally understand why I could never wear anything in red, or in any shade of beige, like camel or brown!
Thank you for this video! I’ve heard so many times “You look tired!” When I’m not really tired! 😂 I never thought about it being connected to the color of my clothes! It makes so much sense. I have cool undertone, thanks to you explaining! Hopefully I will never be mistaken as tired again 😆😉
Wow I am actually mindblown: I have Always thought I had warm undertone, because my veins were mostly Green (but more like a turquoise) and bcos I have a bronzed golden skin tone (quite fair for a pakistani actually). But my favorite color is teal and I love wearing baby blue, it brings out the golden warm tone of my skintone and the same thing happens when I Wear orange-red sweater. Hence i appear healthier and more tanned (some yellow green and bright orange do make me look a bit paler in Winter but I don't think I Can Say i have cool tone from that) So imagine my surprise when you said warm undertone should avoid pale blues !! I realize when it Comes to lipstick colors, indeed cool ones make me look like nicki Minaj (read, clearly the color is too cool for my skin tone). I don't even look at silver jewellery since I believe I have warm undertone. But Now that I realize that I Can (and Always have with colorful pakistani suits or western clothing) basically wear pale pink, any blue Shade, any green...( Just not some pale beige in winter)... This opens so many possibilities. I should try again silver jewellery !! I must be neutral or just very lucky. Thank you for your rich explaination, the examples made it more complete than most videos about this theme.
@@samasr9984 Personally I feel like the gold vs silver jewelry is the best one. It can show a stark difference because it flat out shows what is the most flattering rather than trying to decipher veins. The vein test can also depend on how prominent your veins are and how thick/thin your skin is on top of it. I say skip the vein test.
For me, the vein test and the gold/silver test show I'm warm undertoned, but next to a white paper my skin totally turns pink, so the paper test is the least reliable, IMO ;)
This is one of your best, most useful videos. Both for shoppers and clothing buyers but also designers. I am a painter as well as clothier - Thank you 😊
Wow, this is the first time I find this useful information as you presented it. So professional and right to the point! Thank you so much! Now I understand 🤩
It's funny because all the "tests" out there tell me I'm cool but warm makeup suits my complexion much better. I look washed out with quite cool lipstick or eyeshadow. I feel like I can wear almost any color, but I think I look really good in jewel tones. My veins are bright royal blue mixed with purple, naturally fair skin but I tan very well in the summer. I have redness in my face which I mask with very slight yellow undertones in my foundation. Maybe I'm "neutral"?
Sounds a lot like me! I have blue veins with a few that look greenish. I look better in jewel toned clothes, but very cool lipstick shades look off on me. I worked with a makeup artist and she said that I am neutral leaning towards cool. So she suggested that I wear lipstick shades that are neutral, but with a slight blue undertone.
Same thing here. According to the tests I'm definitely a cool color type, blue veins etc. but silver and cool colors really make me look sick and pale (esp. baby blue). Also very fair skin and hazel eyes. Muted warm colours seem to work best for me. For my jewelry I often choose rosegold or a cooler (14K) gold colour. The gold/silver foil tests just don't work for me; silver makes me look pale and gold is again too yellow. So maybe neutral; but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean you can wear every color
+malibu64 - sounds exactly like me. I definitely have cooler toned skin on my face with redness, but my body might be slightly warmer? My eyes are a warm brown colour which i think confuses things! I think that's why i tend to want to wear warmer makeup colours, more earthy tones to go with my warm eyes. I am relatively pale, but in the summer i tan very well (when i was a kid and out in the sun all day i was super brown! now i'm so white :( )
Same here - cool undertone, but cool colors generally don't look good on me - only silver and pale blue. Gold jewelry doesn't look good on me, silver does. But clothing has to be neutrals or warm colors - or people are constantly asking me if I feel ok.
Such a helpful video, I'm super fair skinned almost porcelain so I always mistook myself for cool but turns out I'm actually a neutral! My veins are a mix of blue and green and next to paper I look pretty yellow/whiteish not pink. I definitely prefer silver on me tho, maybe I lean slightly cool or maybe it's because of my fair skin tone! Either way, great video thanks x
Omg i m so thankful for giving an accurate method of understanding as to what goes well with skin tone and colours . Surely will try the practise . Thumbs up .
I always thought I have olive undertones in my medium beige complexion. Now, I'm not so sure, I may have a mixture!! I look awful in lavender and flat blue, but great in warm blue!! White does not flatter me, and forest green looks MUCH better than olive green clothing. Now, I'm confused!!
Hi Justine! I love your videos. I wonder if you would like to make a video about how different undertones can be used to accentuate skin, lips, eyes or hair.
Anicipating for for the test.😍 Test start: Go to window for natural sunlight ... 🌅🌅 Outside: (Night time 🌃👀) Ok, guess I've watched the video at the wrong time😂 Tried that tmr😂
The best advice I ever got was to go through your photos with other people and compare to them. I could never figure it out in the traditional ways- does the gold look better or the silver, idk??? But you can really tell in a photo of two people who’s warmer and who’s cooler. when I scrolled through years of photos on Facebook I finally was able to conclude that I’m juuust on the warm side of neutral, as I was the more golden person in the photo just slightly more often than I was the pinker person
Marrianne Newell Do you blush when you become embarrassed, if so it may mean you are cool toned .Same if you rub your skin too much and it turns darker.
Marrianne Newell That's how mine are, and I'm neutral leaning towards warm. I can pull off most warm and cool toned colors but look better in warm shades. You want to be careful with the "do you blush/does your skin flush easily" theory. I have extremely sensitive skin that flushes easily and also have a skin condition that makes my upper arms look quite red at times, but I am most definitely more warm than cool. I use the mineral foundation from Alima pure and am a Beige 2-3 in that category (depending on summer or winter). It's a perfect match...not as warm as straight warm tone, not quite as cool as neutral. Most foundations don't carry tones for true beige and neutral skins, so I wind up mixing liquid foundations on the rare occasion when I use them.
I have all three colors as well. I also have an olive undertone. I found the best explanation here. It's regarding Asian skintone, but she is clear that this applies to Caucasians too. musicalhouses.blogspot.com/2010/01/undertones-for-asians-how-to-tell-if.html
Thank you! Super well explained! I have discovered no long ago that I have a neutral under tone on my skin and that typically that means that you will turn into warm undertone on summer time and into cool undertone in winter. And I found that to be true! And super helpful to know 🤓🤗
Justine you’re such a sweetheart! Thanks for the helpful tips❤️❤️ I don’t wear makeup and when I was about to buy some for an occasion I was not able to find the perfect shades now I’ll be able to find the right shades thanks to you👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Finally I found the right theory that matches my theory. You just spoke so well about the undertone. I did not know such words but I always used to tell my closed ones about the colours that go well with certain people and did not get a better way to make them understand. Many thought I was overthinking cause they cannot see the difference in the colours
I’m assuming (and please, correct me if I’m wrong here), that undertone is a spectrum.... COOL ---- *--Neutral------ WARM So, one could clearly have cool undertones, while also showing many neutral qualities (as indicated by “ * “ above). -CORRECT…? I ask because I feel as if I am definitely cool, but more towards the neutral side of cool. • Vein Test: my veins are mostly blue/purple, but I do have some very obvious green as well. • Paper Test: makes my skin MORE red, but also brings out golden/yellow tones too. • Gold/Silver Test: Silver is the most flattering, but gold brightens my skin as well & definitely isn’t detracting from my skin tone either. 🧐
I understand the theory very well. I've even been to a professional image concealing. The woman was showing me at length which colour brings out the best in me. But I am sooo clueless left on my own. I just can not see what you are saying 'see how your skin glows, or your eyes pop'. How can I train that?
Cool or warm can wear both white and black as these are neutral colours. What will determine your best choice is your skin tone, not undertone; and age. Someone warm toned and young with tanned skin will look fantastic in white; while an older woman (read: sun-damaged, but paler) will look sickly or it will just make her skin damage really show (unless she's been scrupulous about sun-protection). Similarly, someone cool toned and pale can look great in black, but one needs to be vibrant in other ways or they'll be overpowered by it. Have a look at Justine -- she's cool toned and pale, but wears black beautifully (and note she usually pairs it with a red lip). I think there's also a question of colour 'amount' in one's skin to take into consideration: for example someone cool toned and pale, can still be what I call 'high coloured' (best way to tell this is if one's face goes red with high temperatures or exertion!). Someone cool toned and pale but highly coloured will not want to wear clothes that are too cool-toned or pale because it will just make their skin look uncomfortably ruddy ~ as if they're running a fever; whereas someone cool toned and pale but low coloured can indeed (this is not a problem warm-tones usually have).
Im not Justine, excuse me for responding. The reason black looks great on Justine is bcoz she has a COOL undertone. Black and pure white are best worn by pple with blue-based undertone. The white version for warm based persons is CREAM and the black for pple with warm undertone is DARK CHOCOLATE or deep brown.
Seriously, go with greys or grey-washed things. It took me years to figure that out. "Yellow" tones make me look jaundiced, but blue/cool tones bring out alllll of the red in my skin and I look sallow. Greys, specific grey-toned colours, ashen browns, muted mauves, misty greens and fog-blues, etc.? I glow. You might find the same.

The first time I ever heard about undertones is when I was a freshman in high school. I’m 48 now and I still haven’t been able to figure out what my undertone is.
I'm 20 and I've already lost hope.
I shouldn't be laughing but sorry 😂😂
Same 49
It's not black and white
If I can’t see the undertone when I look in the mirror, how can I tell? My face looks red and my veins look bluish-green. I’m confused.

And this has nothing to do with skin color. I am always amazed how people can swallow everything. All advise must be taken with a grain of salt.

Exactly! When you're naturally a panda 🤣 But You'll still see a difference some colors might accentuate your eye bags or dark circles MORE than others
I just imagine my bags having tiny arms and flexing on me when I look in the mirror..
Thank you.
I'm happy for you :D your comment was heartwarming
Awe 🥺 So happy for you!!!
Beautiful to read
Often the colours we're drawn to are not the ones that pop

This woman is less confusing compared to others.
Apart the jewellery one that is really confusing for me because I am 100% cool toned I’ve had it confirmed by 3 different beauty experts but silver jewellery looks horrible on me
High praise
@@lbaf1209 I think that even within silver, there is a range of tones which may be your match. For example, you may look good in dark silver coloured jewelery, while others would look more good in a light silver, white goldish coloured jewelry. It really depends on the depth of the colour of your skin tone and undertone as well. Hope this helps. ❤
i’ve literally decided to just mix up paints and see if i use more blue or yellow in order to get my skin colour 😂😂

+salsomanka thanks 😘
What?

(I also have an inflammatory skin condition on my face, so my FACE is cooler because of the pinks than the rest of my body lol).

My best test is my freckles. When I wear a color that is bad for me, my freckles look like dirt.
Ohhh that's why my freckles look so "dirty " with some colours. Thank you so much
I have plenty of freckles in my shoulders and arms, and they look more beautiful when I'm in some colours.
Agreed. I'm an autumn so I don't wear white, black, grey or pink.
How do you find out what your pallette is? What color suits you etc.
Where do you get that done?
The book Color Me Beautiful is probably still out there, it does a very good job of helping you figure out your season and I think it has examples of flattering colors for each. Once you determine your season and see the colors you will probably have an aha moment and picking the right colors becomes instinctive after that.
Mum always knows best ❤
This is SO important for looking and feeling good. I was told I had warm undertones in my 30s and tried to make those colors fit all my life. At 64 I was feeling frumpy, tired, and unattractive. My neighbor always looks 'put together' even in work clothes. So I went for another analysis and was shown clearly that I was 'pink' or cool undertones. Wow, did my life change. I'm told I "look comfortable in my own skin, that I look "like myself". And I FEEL 'like myself' for the first time in years. I've changed my hair color, also. For me, it's worth every penny.
Amazing!
Color consults used to be easily found. Where/how did you find someone recently to do it?

I could never tell... I think this changes with age, because in my youth I could wear only silver, but now i discovered that gold complements better my grey hair and new skin tone.... And that goes for the dresses too. The blue i used to wear is replaced now by earthy browns, aubergines and golden yellows...
great point: yes, the colors that work well for you change with age, with your hair color, etc... Thanks for bringing that parameter in.
Yes, the same happened to me. I still have dresses ok for me when I was a brunette, but it changed since I become silver-grey. Aging is a journey, we always re-discover ourselves.
A very interesting and scientific explanation. Well, a good reason for a new look, new outfits, new approach..... Still young at heart, I say

It's possible. The girl at Ulta matched me to a foundation from Tarte: light with yellow and pink undertones. That means I am neutral right?

Please wear whatever you want. This advice is iffy at best.
Same, mostly black, gray, white.
isn't black warm?
I checked my undertone throughout applying different blush colors. I’ve always though peach was the best blush for me and I kept sticking to those, but I once bought a cool pink blush and after I applied it I realized how much healthier I look. I do use peach blushes still, but the most natural and flattering on me is cool pink. Btw the vein method never worked for me, so as clothing color method, because if I like the outfit, I don’t really see how it affects my appearance
Here’s what I do: Make note when people give you compliments like how Justine explained.
It's really good to know after all this time. xxx
This video is so easy to watch. Normally simple informative videos can be boring but somehow she grabs your attention. 👍
Thank you Justine!!! You make it so easy to understand things :) i one of those ppl who receive the info better verbally. I found you not so long ago on youtube (feel very lucky :)) and the whole fashion world feels much more understandable and less scary. Thank you! :)

I love how you pointed out that your undertone doesn’t really have anything to do with skin tone
I binged on your videos after searching the one with fitting blazers. So informative and clear. Also, not too long, straight to the point. I love it.
Hope it does.
thank you! I certainly don't like to wear lipsticks when I haven't done anything on my eyes. I found all your advices very useful
Since i am a hijabie that explains why some scarves made me look so tired and highlighted the black spots under my eyes while some made my face looks healthy
And why also that changes when i try to wear my black eyeglasses or wear a bandana underneath
Really that explains alot
Thanks alot for the video 😙😍 I have never really enjoyed a fashion video before but i have to admit i liked that one and think it makes alot of sense also
i think it's extremely important for hijaab wearers to know their colors! The face is all it's show and if the wrong colors are worn you would look sickly and tired.
Same thing with me! I can look tired and bad in a black hijab, but when I wear lighter colours like white I look super healthy
This is great cause some people told me that i have a cool undertone just cause i am blonde and my eyes are blue. But actually all this test are telling me that i have a warm undertone. Thank you so much!
Justine, so wonderful to come across one of your videos again. I absolutely LOVE them all. Thank you.
Omg please answer this one
Yes same!
Understanding color is a concept I have always wanted to understand!

I have watched many videos on how to determine your skin's undertone and by far this one is the best!

It's more yellow because it is 18 karat and higher whereas most gold here is 9 karat.
Amazing info
Olga Kramar such a great point! I thought the same, though not as eloquently! 😝🙏🏻
Thank you so much!! I'm a make-up artist and I recently found new foundations that are amazing but it's very important to know the undertone of the skin to apply the right tone, and that was new to me, so this information is pure gold:)
No More Fear, how could you be a makeup artist and not have known about undertone? There is also "overtone".
@@violetviolet888 when I studied it wasn't a primal topic unfortunately. There's also a lot you learn in time
Thanks for explaining.
Excellent info! Thank you!
O wow, I never would have imagined this, and I have terrible eyes that degrade faster than most. thank you so much for sharing

Great! Now I can feign a sick day with my boss by wearing the wrong clothes!
Boss: "What's wrong? You don't look too well."

I feel like that's the case for warm people when they wear cool toned outfits so the colors wash them out and they look a bit sick. But if I as a cool toned person wear warm tones I just look uglier and kinda like dirty😂
Circe two kinds of people... lol 😂

I will be sharing this with my photography clients because it is super helpful! I studied fine art and also had that exercise of mixing skin color...so difficult! Thanks for this info and easy ways to apply it!
When your neutral it’s the hardest to find foundation it’s either to light or to dark lmfaoo
I have the same problem!
honestly its either to yellow, gold or pink and if you have to buy 2 foundation to counteract each other and the foundation you use is 50$ that's friggin 100$ just on foundation most men will never know the struggle unless they use makeup themselves
I think I am neutral, but recently a makeup artist said I am cool undertone (she said my skin was more rosy and less yellow). So I am confused again.
FINALLY someone who explained this well!! Thank you Justine! Thank you (from a fellow "cool" tone)
It is also important to remember that your season colors change with age sometimes. Do a tone test every 7 years.
Great video, and love your amusing way of putting things clearly, and en plus with a smile.!

Thank you for your rich explaination, the examples made it more complete than most videos about this theme.
warm undertoned girls where are you

Bruh my skin looks yellow near a paper but my veins look blue and purple lmao wtf
Omg me too!
vein test is not accurate
@@MultiSoftballgirl21 so what IS accurate then?
Now I understand 🤩
this was the best test i found to see which skin tone i have..thank you
It's funny because all the "tests" out there tell me I'm cool but warm makeup suits my complexion much better.
@@sophiavollemaan8577 Maybe you are a soft summer or soft autumn Look up seasonal color analysis. That will probably help.
Wow! Finally understood! Very informative and at the same time to the point. Thank you.
some of my veins are green and some are blue, so Im warm to neutral... Video is very helpful! Thank you!
Neutral, why warm?
completely neutral. I guess it's lucky. I tan really well too without needing to be in the sun much. :)
YESS!!! Same!!! I'm so confused!!!
Hi Justine! I love your videos. I wonder if you would like to make a video about how different undertones can be used to accentuate skin, lips, eyes or hair.
Anicipating for for the test.😍
Test start: Go to window for natural sunlight ... 🌅🌅
Outside: (Night time 🌃👀)
Ok, guess I've watched the video at the wrong time😂 Tried that tmr😂
Just happened to me too
Me too😂
Same lol I keep watching these types of videos at night 😂
The best advice I ever got was to go through your photos with other people and compare to them. I could never figure it out in the traditional ways- does the gold look better or the silver, idk??? But you can really tell in a photo of two people who’s warmer and who’s cooler.
when I scrolled through years of photos on Facebook I finally was able to conclude that I’m juuust on the warm side of neutral, as I was the more golden person in the photo just slightly more often than I was the pinker person
My veins are purple, blue and green on my wrists. They are distinctly those colors. Does that indicate neutral skin undertone?
Best explanation of how to find undertone I've seen. Easy, clear and not too long. Excellent. Thankyou.
This is the most useful video I’ve come across to find my undertone. Thank you!!! ♥️
Thank you! Super well explained!
I have discovered no long ago that I have a neutral under tone on my skin and that typically that means that you will turn into warm undertone on summer time and into cool undertone in winter. And I found that to be true! And super helpful to know 🤓🤗
I could never tell my undertone until this video, thank you
Justine you’re such a sweetheart! Thanks for the helpful tips❤️❤️ I don’t wear makeup and when I was about to buy some for an occasion I was not able to find the perfect shades now I’ll be able to find the right shades thanks to you👏🏻👏🏻❤️
I’m totally confused. I’ll need to watch this video again. Then maybe again again.
Finally I found the right theory that matches my theory. You just spoke so well about the undertone. I did not know such words but I always used to tell my closed ones about the colours that go well with certain people and did not get a better way to make them understand. Many thought I was overthinking cause they cannot see the difference in the colours
3:39 - Test your skin tone against a white paper to reveal the undertones through simultaneous contrast
I’m assuming (and please, correct me if I’m
wrong here), that undertone is a spectrum....
COOL ---- *--Neutral------ WARM
So, one could clearly have cool undertones,
while also showing many neutral qualities
(as indicated by “ * “ above). -CORRECT…?
I ask because I feel as if I am definitely cool,
but more towards the neutral side of cool.
• Vein Test: my veins are mostly blue/purple, but
I do have some very obvious green as well.
• Paper Test: makes my skin MORE red,
but also brings out golden/yellow tones too.
• Gold/Silver Test: Silver is the most flattering,
but gold brightens my skin as well & definitely
isn’t detracting from my skin tone either. 🧐
I understand the theory very well. I've even been to a professional image concealing. The woman was showing me at length which colour brings out the best in me. But I am sooo clueless left on my own. I just can not see what you are saying 'see how your skin glows, or your eyes pop'. How can I train that?
This video was so helpful! I wish others could be this direct instead of pitter patter around the topic without any relevant information.
Justine, please tell me something.
White clothes look better on cool or warm undertones? What about black? Thanks! And I absolutely love your videos.
Cintia Migliorini Silva
White is a cool color, black a warm one. But both are pretty neutral. I hope that helps ;)
I looked at my veins, half of it is purplish, and the other half is greenish. So that means I'm neutral?
This is complicated lol
Maybe but it could also just be because some of the veins are deeper. Try to look at the one on your wrist
Same lol. Half my vein was purple and half green lol
@@t-.-t. me too
I believ mine are turquoise, so, no green , no blue, just the combination of both colors.
I'm a neutral olive. Sand colored, warm, and cool. nothing fits me. Silver looks better, gold blends in, blonde looks terrible on me. No idea.
This sounds so much like me.
If gold or silver don't seem to fit, try white silver vs antiqued silver. Try white gold, bronze, and copper.
Yass that's me...i bought a light pink lipstick with brown undertones and look sick asf.
Try black jewelry it's going to be in soon as far as hair goes try a neutral darker blonde.
Choosing the right colors is the game changer....I am a makeup artist, totally connected when you mentioned about the artist 👩🎨
