yesss! Could you address round glasses (hipster glasses) hahaha and if different shapes and sizes of round could suit different face shapes? I've been wanting to wear round retro glasses for a while because I'm bored of my black framed glasses, but afraid they won't suit me.
I would like to see a video on how to find your season (color scheme) to compliment your tone and coloring. When I was younger i was reddish blonde with blue-green eyes, after two children and entering my 30s I have more a mousey brown with goldenish red type undertone (natural color) however my skin color is now a slight bit darker but I don't know how to find my my undertone so i just go neutral. i wear black, white, navy, alot of grey and browns. after watching tons of videos on the subject I'm still lost, some parisian expertise here, perhaps?? thanks again!
It's so great to learn that anyone can wear any range of colours as long as it has the right undertone. Regarding the glasses, I think this is a fantastic idea! Would the advice be useful for both men and women? (My husband bought a pair of expensive glasses which are not being used because while they look great from the front, we realised they flatten his face from the side because there is no nose piece). On another topic, after looking at your undertone video, I've realised that I'm probably neutral (south East Asian), but I feel like no colour does anything 'drastically complimentary' to my skin tone. Everything looks 'okay', but nothing special. Lol! I wish I could find colours that really made my skin look healthier and brighter instead of boring. Any advice for neutrals would be great!
Glasses will be great! As for hair color - is tone related to a way that color makes a face "softer" or "sharper"? As in looking more flattering in "lighter" hair colors
Every time I see a "glasses for your face shape" video, no one mentions how strong prescriptions can change your face shape by making the part under the lenses look smaller or larger. If you can, could you mention a work around for this?
"You are not necessarily born with the hair color that is best you" THANK YOU!! I was always told that your natural hair flattered you the most but I have ashy brown hair and EVERYONE tell me I look more natural when my hair is copper. I am so happy someone finally said this
I have this too; I was born blonde but turned brunette by the time I was of school age. As an adult I dyed my hair back to blonde and have always had far more compliments. Also, as I have fair skin, very few people have ever realised the blonde wasn't my natural colour.
@@BlueTressym same. Everyone thought I was a natural redhead. When I was younger I was a blonde and my hair turned brunette when I grew up. So I dyed my hair red and everyone just assumed I was a real redhead
For those wondering what she means by "make sure your future hair colour fits with your wardrobe," let me give an example. Say you want a bright magenta-ish purple, but all of your wardrobe is fire red. Although in some cases red and purple go together, they usually clash. So make sure your colors compliment each other. 😊
“You’re not born with the hair colour that flatters you the most” so true! I have natural black hair but dyed it copper 5 years ago and even I agree I look better with copper. Looking forward to see if icy platinum suits me :)
I honestly cannot tell you how helpful your videos are. Just when I need to know something, you're up and at it with a video! Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work!
There is not enough talk about neutrals, here. Best hairdresser I ever had told me there are cooler neutrals and warmer neutrals. You can also have cool undertones in base color with warm highlights and vise versa.
You never mention olive undertone. It's not exactly warm or cool, though it can be cooler olive or warmer olive, but also darker or lighter. I feel like the lightest olive undertone is the trickiest to work with. First it's hard to figure out it's olive, then, because you're so fair, it may look like you're a cool tone of olive, but it shows even more as pink if you try a light cool tone foundation for example. Light warm foundation looks decent enough, but it's still not exactly right. And when it comes to clothes and hair colour, so many colours/shades/tints look off.
mai567 I'm very pale with warm olive undertones. It's a nightmare. Often people ask me if I feel sick or didn't sleep enough. I look greyish in certain light and finding a good base or concealer it's almost impossible.
Viviana Sanchez Viviana Sanchez I feel your pain. I'm very very fair with an olive undertone. It's only cos I sheer out my foundation and mix a few concealers that my makeup works more or less. I don't try to look Instagram perfect, just not sick hehe. I'm still not sure, but I think mine is a cool olive undertone, which complicates it further. I look awful with gold jewellery, but silver doesn't look perfect either. I think pewter colour jewellery looks better. Or perhaps sth that would be a mix of silver and a tiny bit of gold. Warm hair colour looks bad on me too. But then cool grey (bluish grey) makes me look sick too. So complicated. One thing I can tell you is that berry/plumy/darker lipsticks look best on us. :) Also take good care in the sun cos we tend to get hyperpigmentation easily.
mai567 I love plum colors, but some make me look yellow. I do wear lots of sunscreen, tough. Being honest, I have no idea what colors work for me. I do know that lilacs, mauve and purples are a big no.
Viviana Sanchez You have to wear warm purples then, reddish purples. Cool tones bring out the yellow tones in your skin. Lilac tend to be cool toned, that's why it doesn't work for you.
Aaaah, warm and cool tones! That explains everything. I used to think I couldn't have red hair, because it always made me look half-dead. But one day I ended up getting a mahogany tone with henna - by accident - and it looked really good. This is why!
Hello Justine! First of all I have to say I love your videos! You know how to break things up in a simple and clear way :) After years of trying to fit into the box "warm" or "cool" undertone, I ve finally done proper research and realised that my undertone is really "neutral". I know its commonly said neutrals can get away with any color, any tone, everything suits them etc. But I think this is not the case, at least its very individual. Could you please do a video on us "neutrals", how to determine what fits us best etc. In my case, Im always in two minds, because parts of me are warm, parts cold..so I never know what hair color, or make up to choose, what colors to wear etc. Whenever it fits one part of me, it clashes with the other :D Im sure this video would help others like me, look at their best too :) Regards from Czech Republic, Kat.
Thank you for this! My skin is warm. I’ve always looked yellow, dull, and grey with my natural brown hair color. I’ve dyed my hair copper and my skin has never looked so vibrant, healthy, and youthful. I even have some redness in my skin now and the greyness has completely gone away!
I have neutral/ warm tones but I hate the red that my hair pulls with color so I use very ash based brown/blonde tones in my hair color and it seems to work for me. Sometimes you can find the right cool tone for you even if you are warmish skin toned. Sometimes you want a little bit of contrast and it looks good. So these rules are not necessarily set in stone. You have to see what works with your cool eyes for instance, even if your skin is warm.
This video came at such a perfect time!! I have a cool skin tone and and for ten years had fire red or amber brown hair. When I bleached my hair and went with silvery blonde it was amazing how it transformed my face from a purple blemish mess to clear healthy skin haha. I never really considered why that was, but it must have something to do with my skin's undertones. I have an appointment next week to dye my hair back to my natural colour (sadly can't keep bleaching my hair so frequently, good salon costs $$$) and I will definitely be looking for the cool toned browns.
omg I feel you! I have warm undertone and used to have natural black hair. (I cant remember if that was a cool black or warm one) But after I've dyed it kinda medium golden brown, I use skincare products less frequently because my spots are less noticeable lol It's magical.
Excellent!! I never realized about the Undertones when choosing hair colors. My pale skin tone is "Winter/Cool" but my natural hair color is auburn reddish brown or medium brown with red highlights when I'm in the sun which always makes me look washed out. I'll make sure to go cool red when I'm ready to start coloring my hair.
Kat James I am naturally silver as well, but I exploit the little bit of color that is still left at the bottom half of my head by dying it my youthful brown, referred to dishwater blonde or mousy brown when I was young. I too get comments from the youngsters about how "cool" my hair is. It's nice to finally be fashionable.
Your videos are truly amazing. I am really pale and my natural color was cool blond, like really fair. And people always thought that I am sick or something. And after I dyed my hair warm red my skin looks more healtier, I am still pale, but not that ill/sick pale. People tell me now that I look more healtier and beautiful, I used to be a "grey mouse", but now thanks to that new color and you videos I feel more confident, thank you. 🤗
When my friend got her short hair dyed red it looked really good on her, and I said green clothes would flatter her even more...and her and our other friend were all like "ew no christmas colors!"... to which I shook my head because they somehow don't know much about color theory or fashion lol. My other friend is also super pale and cool and she once dyed her blonde hair dark black and so.... I wouldn't recommend anyone to do that unless you want to look ghostly.
I'm veeeery pale and have dyed my hair black for years... And while my family/friends say I really suit it, on the other hand, people think I'm much much much older than I really am. I'd warn anyone pale against black hair unless you're willing to commit to make up non stop, like Dita Von Teese!
The best video ever! No one has ever explained it so well to me! I have olive tone skin and warm undertone and hairstylists wouldn't let me do blond, only red! Thank you very much!!
Wow I'm early 😂 After 10+ years of coloring my hair several (natural) colors, I've decided to grow back my natural light brown hair and I really love it. Maybe when the first gray streaks are showing I'll go back to hairdye , but for now I'm happy that I don't have to worry about root touch ups 😉
Your videos are superb! This was very helpful. Now I understand why my stylist politely dissuaded me from going for the popular bronde/bronze highlights and kept me where I am with ashier shades with just a tiny bit of cool red. I look forward to your videos every week. Thank you!
Before I start the video, I just want to say that I appreciate everything you post on your channel. It is so educational and I find you very inspiring. Thank you 😊 ❤️❤️
If I may add.....not only is it important to know whether you have cool or warm undertones when choosing a hair color, but also what level of contrast you want or desire. Some people will need subtle levels of contrast and others can get by with dramatic changes. I think the overall personality of the person can determine that as well. Someone who is more introverted and/or shy would not feel comfortable having a vibrant hair color. And the opposite is true for someone who is very outgoing and sociable - that person would feel like they blend in too much with a more subtle look. Great videos, I have seen many and I am enjoying them immensely!
What a surprise to hear that one can wear any hair color, as long as the undertone is right. I have never colored my hair, and I do not intend to. My hair is a mixture of mostly white with light brown or dark blonde bits. My skin undertone is warm. As I have aged, I feel increasingly confused about how to dress with my mostly white hair in a way that is not too starkly contrasted and washing me out. Also, I use very little makeup. Do you have advice about what colors go well with white hair and warm undertones? Do our best colors change as we age?
Thank you, Justine! I think this is one of the reasons I have such trouble finding my color season. I have pale skin with veins ranging from purple to blue-green, but I have copper-red hair with hazel (olive green with a tiny bit of gold) eyes. So I have very warm hair and eyes but I think cooler skin, and I have almost always worn silver jewelry. Now I think I have an idea on where to start and experiment. :)
omg...Justine! This video was so very helpful to me! I love my very, very dark hair, black, with my natural light skin complexion (tan in the summer); yet I would hear people saying on various websites or TV or RUclips or wherever, that you should not have dark hair with light, pale skin...but when I would lighten my hair with highlights, like a caramel color mixed in, I would HATE how it looked, made my skin ugly, and would end up going back to my very dark color hair, which I love. Now I know why this is! Thanks to your video! I am a COOL skin complexion, and that's why my very dark, black (undertone of blue) hair color looks good with my pale, light skin (like the picture you showed of Angelina Jolie with her very dark hair!) My natural skin color is the same as Angelina Jolie's...and this is why I can wear a black hair color! Thank you so much for explaining this! I thought that maybe I was just seeing something different than some of these other people! But now I fully understand! I love your videos and I am French-American!
Double thumbs up ! At the ripe old age of 52 I finally know (through trial & error !) which hair colours suit me but its soooooo useful to have the principals of matching hair & skin colour explained in this way. Bravo et bisous !
I have warm undertone so I think I'll stick with black or brown , good info though. Loking forward to your "glasses" video, its a topic I was actually researching a few days ago, so it will be good to know more, thanks.
I'd like to thank you for your great video, I've had my colors done in the past and you can see immediately what colors don't suit you. I'm a cool-toned person with blue undertones. ie the cloth swatch of pink is great while the peach color cloth totally washed me out. The hair color portion in your video was really interesting. I'm at the age now that I can successfully wear platinum blonde. My hairstylist and I agreed to put in a blue conditioner which washes out in a few washes. Well, the pale blue was absolutely awesome looking on me. It brightened my face and enhanced my blue eyes. So the hair colors do truly work just as you have stated. Well done, Justine !!!!!
I have a copper brown hair colour naturally, but was just looking through a colour book and was thinking of going a dark brown almost chocolate or licorice black. Your videos are so wonderful, they don't change my style, but they help clean it up a bit. Thank you for posting such informative videos.
This video is so helpful in all the aspects i have been searching about concerning undertones. This is the first video which made things WAY clearer to me
Hi Justine! I really enjoy your videos! I am 62 years old and am letting my natural hair color grow in. My original hair color was very dark brown, like charcoal. My eyebrows are still that color. My grey hair is quite silver and I still have some of my dark hair mixed in. I am of Italian descent and I tan very easily. My eyes are brown with some faint gold or olive color in the center. I'm confused because my hair is very cool toned and yet I think my skin undertone is yellow. I can wear both cool and warm shades so I think I'm not extremely warm toned. I always thought that my natural hair color would surely compliment my skin tone (since I was born with it) but now I'm not sure. Thanks for all of your interesting videos!!
My son has Scandinavian peachy-tan (warm) skin and naturally white-blonde (cool) hair but his combo looks really good. He is only 4 though so maybe youth helps?
I have the same, olive skin that gets rather dark in summer, brown/green eyes and nearly white hair. It's a rare combo and might fade as he gets older, but it can stay in cases like my brother's and I
Amaaaazing video! Now it's clear for me why I looked so tired and faded when I tried a lighter and more natural/yellowish red on my hair. Couldn't stand it and got the stronger blueish red again. Really like your videos, thanks a lot!
Justine please do a video about accessories, what kind to wear with which dress.. What to wear with an A line dress, a skater dress, with a jean n a tee etc etc... Thank you luv!!
I'm a natural redhead and even though my skin is super light, I don't think I'm cool toned. My colour red seems to be different then most of the other redheads I see, who seem to have more orangy-red hair. Also, my eyelashes and eyebrows are really blonde, but they're more golden blonde then say, ash blonde. The look-at-your-veins thing doesn't seem to work on anybody. Most people will say they're bluey-green, not clearly blue or clearly green.
Kaylee Kapital I disagree with what she said really. I don't find natural orangey red hair to be cool toned at all. I have a sort of copperish tones in my orangey hair and it's very warm. I'm extremely, ghostly pale and my skin is neutral but leans quite warm. I also have blue eyes so warm colours compliment me very much.
I have been a natural redhead my whole life but as I age my hair has gone darker like an auburn. It’s been a constant struggle lol because as it darkens I look more gaunt as I have a square face with very high cheekbones. I’ve been unsure my whole life whether I have a cool or warm tone. So I’m going to watch your video next. I have freckles and I think that makes it harder for me to tell. As always, it’s a pleasure to watch your videos. I love how you’re so positive towards finding yourself and what suits a person.
Love your natural class and style ! I am a winter with dark hair and fair skin who is going grey. I colour my hair is naturally dark and have blond highlights to blend in the grey but need your advice regard the shade if blond and whether this changes me from a winter. Robyn Xx
Hi Justine, love your videos! I'm 68 and have been dying my hair blonde for years. I want to go natural with either grey or white. Would you please do a similar video for older people on hair color choices in grey and white. And maybe touch on the advantages/disadvantages on a head of solid color hair versus mixed hues of one color within the grey/white color spectrum. Thank you!
Love this video! Yes, one of the most important factors in choosing fantasy colours is to consider how it will fade. Had to say as well, I think this video has finally helped me determine my undertone, after so many years wondering! Your video on skin tones was helpful, but now I think I've got it. Thanks again! (Y)
Justine, hi! A person that is neutral with a not so obvious undertone should take eye color in consideration? I am neutral, little be to cool skin undertone. But with warm toned eyes. WHAT TO DO???
ROSANA COSTES snap, I never know if I'm cool or neutral I just don't fit into any of the categories whether it's skin tone, skin colour, skin type... I'm super pale (I've only ever met one person paler than one and one just as pale), my natural hair colour has warm and cool tones through it, warm dark brown eyes, but I'm definitely not a warm skin tone. I don't have a clue what colours I pull off best besides black 😂😂
I am neutral medium skin tone, little bit to cool side. I get red and then I tan. My eyes are medium dark brown. And my hair is medium dark brown, but I make highlights and tone it down with beige to be more natural. I just don't know were I fit. Should be soft autumn, but my skin it little be to the cool side.
One can also be neutral, no? Sometimes I have blueish, pinkish undertones and cold pink, blueish violet clothes or for hair, the pastel fantasy colors would fit - in other moments a bit yellowish blue or warm pink is great, or the warm violet is just as good. Same with greens: I can wear both cold or warm shades. And my hair now is really bright red, it looks terrific even when it fades out and becomes kind of rusty - but so did the blueish black you see here on my profile pic. I couldn't figure it out yet what does it depend on, so I just wear whatever I feel like. And I keep this flame red hair for a while 😊
Thank you for posting this video. I've all but fallen in love with your channel over the last 2 weeks or so and this has helped me realise why I keep looking so washed out with blonde hair colours (I have cooler undertones and always seemed to go for a warmer, caramel blonde). I also didn't realise that skin undertones contributed to so many style problems. Thanks Justine!!
I’ve received a LOT of compliments when I had cobalt blue hair. And yes, think about if the new color will work with your wardrobe: I had to make a big change in my clothing color choices when I became a redhead!
Aww thanks so much dear! I was one of those who asked for this video. I am a pale skinned (with possibly violet-pinkish undertones, have to check) and I cannot tell you what a nightmare it is for me, having to decide on exact shade and experiment with my hair everytime... Your tips have given me more confidence for sure! Now I will recheck all my skin - hair "parameters" and prepare for for next time :)
🤔 i did the test when u uploaded the undertone video, i concluded i have warm undertone, but here u mentioned very fair skin tends to be cool undertone ( thats why i always thought i was cool undertone) is it possible/common to have very fair/pale skin with warm ut? 🤔 i do think i have pink/red tones in my skin rather than yellow/white
Pamela&Steven En China Tendencies are general guidelines, not 100% accurate rules. Depth and undertones aren't mutually exclusive so yes, you can be very pale and warm undertoned as well as very dark and have cool undertones.
I am fair and have a neutral undertone that leans just slightly warm. I have trouble following the fashion rules because they only ever partially apply to me. You are not alone. :)
I darken my eyebrows when I color my roots, takes only 10 minutes...and its true that most salons will not dye the eyebrows...but its very easy to do, use a very tiny amount, and you will have beautiful eyebrows...and I am only talking about making the eyebrows DARKER, but I've never lightened or bleached the eyebrows so that I'm not sure about...
Justine!! I was so excited to find out yet another way to determine facial skin undertone (warm/cool): glasses frames! Maybe I missed this from your previous video, but in case someone has not mentioned. The acetate/plastic frames with clear lenses (no sunglasses lenses) are perfect to do this. I went to eyewear shop and I tried on frames, pastel pinks (cool), grapefruit pinks (warm) against my un-made up face (no makeup, blank face). Right away a good pair of frames will light up my face, even without makeup. So for those who are still on the border, you can try this. I myself find that I'm neutral, so certain very warm-colored frames (bronze, etc.) do not work for me, ditto with very cool frames (very cool, icy pinks). And thanks for making this video: I have some gray hairs (I may be older than some of your subscribers) so I need to start thinking of lightening the color of my hair a bit. Now I understand the dynamics of color against my skin tone. Thanks a lot.
I'm so confused now. I grew up with the 'seasons' colour theory where you are a spring, summer, autumn, or winter person and I always assumed based on this I was a winter person because jewel tones look really good on me, and pastels make me look ill. I've always come up neutral in undertone tests and have been able to compare against both of my sisters, one of which is a warm toned gold only undertone and the other is a very cool silver only undertone. So yeah a bit confused now. 🤔
It's the first time I watch one of your video and this is PERFECT! I was thinking about getting dark blue hair after summer vacations, and this helped me a lot!
Retired hairstylist (well, is one ever really retired?) and I love listening to you explain things!! Thanks, as always, for sharing your awesome knowledge! ;b
not always the case, im pale cool skinned and ice blue eyes and i look better with a rich chocolate brown than an ashy one. the red in the brown warms up my face and brings out my eyes. my entire appearence is cool toned i would look washed out and strict. as a hair stylist you learn to look at the person as a whole and not just "go by the book". often an ideal color combination would be warm, warm, cool (as in skin, eyes, hair) or cool, cool, warm.. which is what i am. depends on the person and how you look without makeup.
Never realise i have cool black hair and i have warm undertone, so that's why a lot of my friend said i look kinda dull with my natural hair color and when i dyed my hair warm orange they said i look more radiant. Thank you so much for this video it really help me!
A way cool way I found my hair color undertones; if you're layin down in sun with your hair kinda covering your face( lying on your stomach) if you half-close your eyes and look through your hair the light breaks up into little spangles of color...these are the primary base colors of your hair you don't normally see..mine had rose-pink and green-gold spangles in it..'
I have a cool undertone - fair, pink skin and blue veins - but when I was young my hair was warm (it's grey & silver now), so I was interested in your remark about certain redheads whose skin tone is incongruous with their hair. I like my silver-grey now. I use Roux White Minx rinse to keep it bright. The color suits me. I have considered a pastel fantasy color for fun but I like low maintenance so maybe not. I love seeing your photo examples of cool vs. warm. It's very helpful.
Really good video! However,I think you should have compared women on the same level of lightness, fair warm with fair cool, medium warm with medium cool etc. :)
i just wanted to say... THANK YOU VERY MUCH. for merely even being existing. because you definitely validated and put into words what i have already realized in my subconscious but i havent really put concretely into words like an epitaph or obelisk of some sorts. Thank you thank you... no words could really express my gratitude (and i honestly didn;t expect validation from someone who's definitely continents away from me *i'm Asian by the way, yellow-undertoned and couldn't be definite between NC20-25 Mac . i'm definitely light, but yellow undertoned when exposed to sunlight*
Hi everyone! The next video of the same kind would be "how to choose good glasses for your face shape". I'm working on it. Any further wishes? :-)
@Elizendo im sure they were jealous. A lot of mixed or darker skin people have red hair too. And it looks good on them.
@Elizendo It must be so unique dark skin with red hair, Rihanna made it a trend
Eww I hate my natural hair color is so not flattering 😩
"Hi everyone! Its Justine." (With that smile) 😍
You are such elegant and clever, so charming, and your English is beautiful❤❤❤👏👌✌💪
Well done, I am a hairstylist, you nailed it!
+Sam B. Thank you!! Great to have a confirmation from a professional 👏🤗
I am a warm skin tone but would like to dye my hair red or blonde. Do you think it would look good on me by looking at my picture? if so, which dyes?
Mariely Ortiz c
Yes you have Nailed it... For Sure!! 😊❤️
Yes please, which glasses to wear for your face shape and also which hair style for women who wear glasses. Thank you Justine
We need the glasses one,I struggle with what galsses would look good on me whenever I need new glasses
You read my mind with this post.
Anyone else feel that Justine is actually a friend they have never met? I watch her videos and feel like I have chatted with a friend.
Suranjana Bose Same!
thanks!!
yes same here :)
AMEN!!
Suranjana Bose I wholeheartedly agree. Excellent content! I've learned so many interesting things. Thank you Justine!
I love your succinct talking style. Very to the point, friendly, informative and quick! Love it, love you!
+cherissa adams thank you!!
Hey
Can you speak more about red / auburn hair
:) Also take good care in the sun cos we tend to get hyperpigmentation easily.
cool pale olive person here! Yes, it's a nightmare, nothing mathes.
mai567 I love plum colors, but some make me look yellow.
I have very fair yellowish skin and I dye my hair ginger and I looove my orange hair and I feel the best in it ;)
I'm so glad I'm past all this now! Seven months ago I stopped dyeing my hair and now my natural hair color is coming in so beautiful and multi-tonal.
Thank you for this! My skin is warm. I’ve always looked yellow, dull, and grey with my natural brown hair color. I’ve dyed my hair copper and my skin has never looked so vibrant, healthy, and youthful. I even have some redness in my skin now and the greyness has completely gone away!
I love how you say your name it sounds so much nicer in the French accent. Also I love your smile and all of your videos.
+Britney The cat thanks 😄
+Veera L good luck with your appointment 👍🤗
omg I feel you! I have warm undertone and used to have natural black hair. (I cant remember if that was a cool black or warm one) But after I've dyed it kinda medium golden brown, I use skincare products less frequently because my spots are less noticeable lol It's magical.
Try blue black- it works for cool skin tones.
Your knowledge and communication skills are awesome Justine. I'm always learning something from you! Thanks and regards, Deb.
I love how you pointed out Naomi is cool and Michelle is warm
I'm in love with your channel. I like how you communicate a lot of information in a such a small amount of time. Very clever.
+Maria Pagan thanks!
This is so true and as you go through life your skin color also changes so matching with the right hair color is essential
As a cosmetologist, this is spot on! I will share this with future clients because this is perfect and so well said!
thank you very much :-D
I could listen to her all day.
Awesome to know that my silver that's coming in is considered a fantasy color :-).
It's often the haircolour of wizards after all :o)
Kat James I am naturally silver as well, but I exploit the little bit of color that is still left at the bottom half of my head by dying it my youthful brown, referred to dishwater blonde or mousy brown when I was young. I too get comments from the youngsters about how "cool" my hair is. It's nice to finally be fashionable.
Kat James are you the Kat James who wrote the beauty book? If so, thank you!
Idk why but her voice is so soothing and i like how she explains everything. Thumbs up!
Fantastic! I learned SO much from this video. I finally feel confident that I can make better choices to suit my skin tones. Thank you!
The best video ever! No one has ever explained it so well to me! I have olive tone skin and warm undertone and hairstylists wouldn't let me do blond, only red! Thank you very much!!
show them this video and tell them they can start looking for a warm blond ;-)
Wow I'm early 😂
After 10+ years of coloring my hair several (natural) colors, I've decided to grow back my natural light brown hair and I really love it. Maybe when the first gray streaks are showing I'll go back to hairdye , but for now I'm happy that I don't have to worry about root touch ups 😉
This was the best video on the right color for your skin tone. Thank you, Justine!
Another thing to look out for is aging. It changes your skin tone, and you have to adapt accordingly. I learned that one the hard way.
can you explain more? what ended up working well for you? TY
Dawn Beattie I heard lighter hair on darker skin makes you look older bc it exaggerates everything on ur face.
Your videos are superb! This was very helpful. Now I understand why my stylist politely dissuaded me from going for the popular bronde/bronze highlights and kept me where I am with ashier shades with just a tiny bit of cool red. I look forward to your videos every week. Thank you!
hahahaha well then you have a good (and polite!) stylist :-D
Most natural red-haired people are cool toned, however, their hair is mostly warm toned. Cool toned reds are not natural red colours anyway.
There are some naturally cool toned redheads but it's very rare. Also IME most redheads are warm toned.
Mine switches based on what I wear, some days it looks warm and others it looks cool.
I'm about to make a DECISION... I feel a bit more enlightened now on what to choose. Thank you Justine.
+April F good point, thanks for adding it!
Andrea Winchester if I were you I would use a violet toner to contrast the yellow in your hair and make it more even!
Very, very usefull. I didn't know anything about this. Thank you! 😊
omg...Justine!
My dream: I want to be once evaluated by you and have the most perfect hair, clothes, makeup and shoes for the rest of my life! ❤
You're answering questions even before I get to ask them. You are amazing girl. 🤘🏽
I had gathered several questions from the comments on my previous video ;-)
I have a copper brown hair colour naturally, but was just looking through a colour book and was thinking of going a dark brown almost chocolate or licorice black.
Your videos are so wonderful, they don't change my style, but they help clean it up a bit.
Thank you for posting such informative videos.
Wow! You pack a lot of good information into a few minutes' video. Thanks!
This video is so helpful in all the aspects i have been searching about concerning undertones. This is the first video which made things WAY clearer to me
Neutral skintone?
+Heather Paige ... can do any color 😊
Lucky person!
More information on red hair would be great too. Thank you for all the great videos.
I've been waiting for this for such a long timeee! Great video Justine❤️
I know... many of you were asking for it...! Sorry it took so long! ;-)
Oh I wish she had answered you as I have same issues..with hazel eyes..
My son has Scandinavian peachy-tan (warm) skin and naturally white-blonde (cool) hair but his combo looks really good. He is only 4 though so maybe youth helps?
He could still have a cool undertone, getting a tan doesn't change it. Or maybe he just got lucky
It can look very exotic! A lot of models have that strong contrast. It definitely brings interest to their look.
samcad2013 I'm olive warmish tan, if I go blonde warm blondes looks so orange and brassy, I always go with an ash toner and looks much better!
I have the same, olive skin that gets rather dark in summer, brown/green eyes and nearly white hair. It's a rare combo and might fade as he gets older, but it can stay in cases like my brother's and I
I bet he's stunning
Amaaaazing video! Now it's clear for me why I looked so tired and faded when I tried a lighter and more natural/yellowish red on my hair. Couldn't stand it and got the stronger blueish red again. Really like your videos, thanks a lot!
That was helpful.
My quest for cool dark blue hair shall continue :)
Justine please do a video about accessories, what kind to wear with which dress..
What to wear with an A line dress, a skater dress, with a jean n a tee etc etc...
Thank you luv!!
Wow I never knew my natural red hair was cool toned thanks!
Reds are tough. I have a cool undertone and copper hair. One thing to note about red hair is the colour fades as we get older!!
Thank you!
I wish the hair stylist I last went to knew this... I went in for a colour similar to Jessica Alba and came out with harsh burgundy red! 😳 Horrible! 😖
+Renee Haug oh... Sorry to hear that... 😓
Love this video! Yes, one of the most important factors in choosing fantasy colours is to consider how it will fade. Had to say as well, I think this video has finally helped me determine my undertone, after so many years wondering! Your video on skin tones was helpful, but now I think I've got it. Thanks again! (Y)
+Genevieve Asseo great! Thank you 😊
Justine, hi! A person that is neutral with a not so obvious undertone should take eye color in consideration?
I am neutral, little be to cool skin undertone. But with warm toned eyes. WHAT TO DO???
ROSANA COSTES same as me! I thought I was just a freak of nature!
Thanks for let me know feel the same way. And more I read less I know were am I.
Me too!
And I keep this flame red hair for a while 😊
Justine, would it be possible to do a video on makeup & looks for the 'mature woman' or women over 45 svp. Bises
Michele 65 Lisa Eldridge has the video you're looking for. It is all about mature women and makeup tips for different days for them. :)
I agree...Its a great video...@@frankieasra
I am surprised to see that even black colour can be cool or warm! Thanks! very nice tips.
what about the colour blue? being that its a cool colour and if you warm it up it might turn green and you wouldnt want that
Thank you for posting this video.
Girl! yes! always straight to the point and i looove that u noticed our confusion around undertone! thank u!
+Pathrissia my pleasure 😉
I’ve received a LOT of compliments when I had cobalt blue hair. And yes, think about if the new color will work with your wardrobe: I had to make a big change in my clothing color choices when I became a redhead!
Hi Justine, love your videos, would really like video on glasses for face shapes. For middle age women x🇬🇧🙋
+Pamela&Steven En China the test tells the truth: so you must be warm. In this video here I am generalising a lot. But everything is possible 😊
Yeah I'm also really pale and I have a neutral undertone that leans on the warm side.
You might have an olive undertone, which is considered cool.
@@theprousteffect9717 funny you should say this, as I've recently been exploring the idea that I have a cool olive undertone
It's the first time I watch one of your video and this is PERFECT! I was thinking about getting dark blue hair after summer vacations, and this helped me a lot!
+Julia Draw great! 😉
What color a you wearing? This is your color!!!!!!!!! The lipstick and your nail polish and the top are phenomenal!
oganotluibov Yeah, I love the nailcolour too! It's hard to find such a deep but not too dark red!
Retired hairstylist (well, is one ever really retired?) and I love listening to you explain things!! Thanks, as always, for sharing your awesome knowledge! ;b
amazing video, thank you!!
I don't think any other beauty video has educated me so much. Thank you!
not always the case, im pale cool skinned and ice blue eyes and i look better with a rich chocolate brown than an ashy one. the red in the brown warms up my face and brings out my eyes. my entire appearence is cool toned i would look washed out and strict. as a hair stylist you learn to look at the person as a whole and not just "go by the book". often an ideal color combination would be warm, warm, cool (as in skin, eyes, hair) or cool, cool, warm.. which is what i am. depends on the person and how you look without makeup.
Never realise i have cool black hair and i have warm undertone, so that's why a lot of my friend said i look kinda dull with my natural hair color and when i dyed my hair warm orange they said i look more radiant. Thank you so much for this video it really help me!
This was so informative! Thanks so much! Love your channel, Justine!
Justine, I love your smile. You seem like such a kind person. Thanks for de-mystifying these fashion questions for us!
+Laurie Staring thank you 🤗😘
This is really helpful!
Thanks a lot! :)
Nuha Ma
We love you Justine, Such a Beautiful person. Inside, and out.
you look good in brown hair !!!! and amazing video
+kahini's diy and fashion corner thanks dear!
Justine Leconte officiel 😊😊😊
A way cool way I found my hair color undertones; if you're layin down in sun with your hair kinda covering your face( lying on your stomach) if you half-close your eyes and look through your hair the light breaks up into little spangles of color...these are the primary base colors of your hair you don't normally see..mine had rose-pink and green-gold spangles in it..'
I love the way she said “Jolie”
I think she's french by her accent or I may be wrong
I admire you so much! You’re so smart; I love it when you smile and how friendly you seem to be. Thank you for sharing videos with us!
your videos are very helpful dear stay blessed 💗 from Pakistan
+Mehru Sayyam thank you 🤗🤗🤗
I have a cool undertone - fair, pink skin and blue veins - but when I was young my hair was warm (it's grey & silver now), so I was interested in your remark about certain redheads whose skin tone is incongruous with their hair.
I couldn't find the pictures I needed... Fair point though ;-)
i just wanted to say...
