recently have watched this entire series and I have never seen a better one than this! Prior to coming across this I never found videos explaining EVERYTHING (including stande and footwork) in detail and providing combat examples, this will massively help my journey in reenactment and HEMA fighting. Thank you for uploading man, and I look forward to seeing more videos! You’ve earned yourself a very happy subscriber 😄
Alexander, you have inspired us to begin Viking sword and Shield in my HEMA club. These videos are excellent. They are informative and very easy to follow. Keep up the excellent work. 😊👍
@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat Thanks. We've made our own shields, and my first attempt was 5.5kg - too heavy to wield easily. Second one is 3kg and is 87cm diameter - I'm 1.85 Metres tall. 😊
Sorry, I have absolutely no experience with dane axe. Especially with historically accurate dane axes it is a very unique fighting style which few know. For now I stick to shield and spear.
@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat will do, had combat training again today, far less double kills thanks to your previous advice. Looking forward to working on this
I would love to see you get some testing play in with Roland Warzecha. You both seem to be exploring similar spaces in your reconstruction and training. I really like the work you are doing here.
Yeah most definitely, when everything works out we meet at the hedeby bouts this year! But he is far more experienced than I am, especially in the bind. So he would probably kick my ass!
What sources do you use in your reconstruction? I've mainly seen people advocating the usage of I.33 for this purpose, but looking at your other videos, I presume you incorporate a fair amount of Lignitzer as well? Talhoffer's longshield section also strikes me as useful for reconstruction
Great eye! Yes, for the overbind via the center I was inspired by my interpretation of Durchtreten from I.33. Lignitzer inspired me to the swapping over to the left/sword side.Sadly never had a chance to work with talhoffer's shields yet and haven't had a look into the source yet. You would recommend it?
@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat I have little experience with Talhoffer, I'm just going based off of what I heard. However, his longshield sections cover some very brief plays on shield binds, both with mace and with sword
@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat I.33 shield binds always take care of binding the opponent's sword first. What you show here leaves opponent's sword free. Any decent figher will hit you at the moment you try to bind the shield. If you are at your opponent's striking range and the opponent's sword is able to strike, you have made a major tactical error.
@@Tsurukiri You are sometimes a bit lecturing and unpatient. I am fully aware of that and I already made a hint to that in the video. As indicated by the title, I first wanted to introduce binding with the shield and afterwards with the sword. Would be a bit too much all at once. I stated I was inspired by it, not that this is already durchtreten or schildschlach.
@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat I'm really, really sorry about that, I get easily carried away with that tone. You are doing very good job with these videos and I'm absolutely not an expert with shield binds!

Love your instructional video!!!
Will you do some Dane axe stuff?!

Excellent will be working on that soon!
Let me know if it helped with your recent problems! :)

Awesome work. Very good to understand and looking forward to test these techniques beside Longsword. Hope to See more soon
Let me know how it worked out! I am sure much of the general movement patterns will be familiar from longsword!
