I get there is a measure of self-segregating that happens, but do you think it could also be affected by economic differences?

For sure that plays a role but I don’t believe it’s the primary driver. It’s human nature to want to be around people who are “like” you. There is plenty of ethnic diversity at all economic levels yet many of the neighborhoods, restaurants and shopping centers don’t reflect that.

@@LIVINGINATLGA that makes sense. Do you think it could be remnants of the 'Old South' at work? Meaning customs and practices.

In the rural south there are surely some systems in place, intended and unintended that hinder integration. That don’t make black people feel welcome. But that also exist in the urban city centers. There are definitely areas of Atlanta where white people don’t feel welcome. But it’s not just the south either. I’ve lived in Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas. As a young white man I made the mistake of moving into the “wrong” neighborhood in NYC. Was frequent asked if I was lost. I guess when you see something that looks out of place it attracts your attention. If that thing is a person, they can feel it. Even if there is no harm intended it sends a message. Evidently as humans we’ve still got room for growth.
