To answer your question about the compies hunting that guy. It's not clear in the movie. But in the novel the compies saliva is venomous. While this film isn’t my favorite and it doesn’t top the original film, I still enjoy the film thanks to Jeff Goldblum’s performance as Ian Malcolm, the visual effects and seeing more familiar and new dinosaurs. The Funny thing is that I saw bits and pieces of the movie when I was a kid but the only parts I remember were the little Girl being surrounded by the Compies in the beginning of the movie and Ian and Sarah operating on the baby T-Rex before the parents arrive and Ian rescue Sarah and the Baby T.Rex when the truck was falling. Lastly, I always wondered what happened to Dr. Sarah Harding and Ian’s daughter, Kelly Curtis following this film since they never appeared nor were they ever mentioned in the _Jurassic World_ movies. Looking forward to your reaction to the third film and the _Jurassic World_ films.
Heard that the actress who played Kelly had her home broken into and they stole all her memorabilia from this movie. Never learned who did it but it sucks
I'm sorry, but if a Tyrannosaurus rex (or any predator) stuck its head in my tent while I was asleep, I'd be pissing/shitting myself. I also feel so bad when Eddie gets Lady & The Tramped by the male and female Tyrannosaurs. Side notes: 1. The little green dinosaur is a carnivorous species called Compsognathus. 2. In the novel of The Lost World, Cathy Bowman (the little girl on the beach) is revealed to have survived her ordeal with the Compsognathuses. 3. You can tell the male and female Tyrannosauruses apart, since the female is larger than the male. (similar to female Goliath bird-eating spiders, black widow spiders and praying mantises).
They based the idea of the female being larger than the males on modern raptors like eagles, hawks, and owls, rather than on bugs. They are modern dinosaurs after all.
In the books, it's not mentioned in the films, compy's are mildly venomous and travel in the large groups we see, with multiple bites causing drowsiness even in adult humans so they succumb to that feeling and then get eaten by compys
The hunter saying "Predators don't hunt unless they are hungry." Me watching the movie being like "But Human's are supposedly the greatest of all predators, and you're here hunting for sport, not food."
The guy in the phone box is David Koepp, one of the screenwriters :) Also Steven Spielberg has a little Easter egg at he end - when they are all watching the convoy of boats going back to Isla Sorna, you see the reflections in the tv of Ian, Sarah and Kelly. In one of those very brief shots, you can see Steven Spielberg sat on the sofa with them in the reflection. Fun little thing to find :)
The general rule in the Jurassic series: It's one smart guy with actual experience dealing with a slew of people who refuse to listen. Once again, T-Rex steals the spotlight.
Grew up watching this series and love it also you need to watch Disney's 2000 Dinosaur movie once you finish this series it's a great movie and I know you will love it
He was my favorite character. That scene where he is pinned under the mangled roll cage and the camera shows him contorting in his seat to keep the accelerator pedal pressed... damn. Every time I watch that scene a little part of me hopes that *this* time... he manages to get the dart rifle untangled.
In the first book (spoilert alert if someone wants to read them) . . . . . . . . . . . Is John Ammond that dies by Compsognathus and he is actually a pretty evil guy, not like the lovely old man from the movies. And you die from compy bites (and from any reptiles bite) due to the awful amount of bacterias in their saliva directly shot into your bloodstream (if you're "lucky" enough not to die because of the bite itself). This was explained in the first book as well.
I feel so bad for the pup I forgot how sad it makes me because it always slips my mind. As a dog owner I would be ungodly terrified, angry, and sad at the same time.
This movie is a guilty pleasure. It's got some stupid characters that make stupid decisions, but its still pretty fun. I love the climax in the city even though most people think its pointless.
I remember watching this is the theater when it first came out. That part where the raptor suddenly poked it's head out near the little girl had the whole audience jump and scream including me! I think that might be a core memory.
This came out when I was little, only saw bits and pieces of it when mom watched it, but had nightmares about T Rex's walking outside my house and looking through my windows for years thanks to this movie
The opening scene of this movie harkens back to a similar scene in the original Michael Crichton novel (he wrote two Jurassic Park novels) where a few "compys" are discovered eating a LIVE NEW BORN HUMAN BABY a BITE AT A TIME Jurassic Park is just one of about 18 novels written by the brilliant Dr John Michael Crichton MD that have been adapted into motion pictures. Also Michael Crichton, as executive producer and creator of television's E.R., could IMHO credibly be given most of the credit for launching the careers of Noah Wylie, Eriq La Salle, Julianna Margulies, Maura Tierney, and uh oh yeah some guy named George Clooney whose BEST E.R. episodes IMHO are ALL scenes he did with his IRL Mom Rosemary.
I wasn’t sure if anyone mentioned how Malcom dies in the first book but everyone loved Goldblum’s performance Crichton worked his magic and brought him back for the lost world.
@@MrTbk1701Malcolm actually has his burial mentioned at the end of the first book, and from an omniscient perspective too, not by one of the characters. Of course, it's a brief line that could have been easily removed in an updated edition.
The compies (the small dinos that eat the bad guy hunter) are supposed to be mildly venomous according to the books and the Netflix show "Camp Cretaceous". That's how they were able to kill the hunter, lots of small doses of venom to weaken him until they could swarm him.
this one is actually my favourite! I love the first one, but this one just holds a special place in my heart :') excited to see your reaction to the third movie! it's also enjoyable imo
fun story I saw this in theater at the age of 6. I got restless and started to walk around. when the first raptor jumped out of the grass I grabbed a full grown mans shoulders. he was so freaked out and pissed off
The guy on the beach with the British accent at the start is Robin Sachs, who played the villain Ethan Rayne in several episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He sadly passed away a few years ago.
Yay another dinosaur movie. Thx for reacting Oscar. Love you and your videos your reactions and commentary. This one i don't remember watching it must have been so long ago.
I have very fond memories of sneaking into this movie as a 10 year old. I went with a friend, and our parents thought we were going to see a cartoon. There's nothing like seeing that waterfall scene on the big screen as a kid and being fully immersed in the action.
"The compies didn't look dangerous at first sight. They were the size of a hen and walked nervously like a hen. But he (John Hammond) knew that they were venomous. Their bites delivered a slow-acting poison that they used to kill wounded animals. small theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Triassic Period, about 222 to 219 million years ago. Procompsognathus was named by Eberhard Fraas in 1913. He named the type species, P. triassicus, on the basis of a poorly-preserved skeleton found in Württemberg, Germany. Procompsognathus may have been about 1.2 meters long (4 feet). A biped, it had long hind legs, short arms, large, clawed hands, a long slender snout with many small teeth, and a stiff tail. It lived in a relatively dry, inland environment and may have eaten insects, lizards, and other small prey. But were deadly in a group.
I hated the hunter when I watched this as a kid and identified with Sarah a lot as an animal lover. There were years between the films, so it's easy to forget the carnage and remember what it was like to see the Brachiosaurus for the first time. That's the mode Sarah is in for the first part of the film. As an adult, I don't like his behavior in the beginning, but I like the hunter's attitude and the way his character changes through the movie. I still like Sarah because I would absolutely give my life to see prehistoric animals for a few days.
I know what you mean. There is actually a deleted scene that introduces him before we see him on the island. One that was included in the 4 part Dark Horse or IDW comic book adaptation of this movie. This scene shows when Ludlow hires Dodgeson at a bar in Africa I think. It showed Dodgeson putting a drunken brute who was harassing the attractive waitress by beating him with one hand actually tied behind his back. Shows he's got principals and is super tough. Can't agree with his ethics being a hunter either, but at least he has some morals. Another deleted scene showed it was one of his men who broke the baby rex's leg, not him.
27:15 - Procompsognathus was thought to be a pack hunter and they deployed paralyzing venom to the prey with small bites. A lot of the stuff in this movie are little things that were in the book but were left out from the first movie, compys was one of them. I love your reactions to these classics and I highly recommend reading Crichton's book, it's is amazing.
33:40 that reaction 👌😅 watching these jurassic park films in the cinema when they first came out was the best experience - can you just imagine everyone in the theatre, reacting the way you did, all at the same time!?? 😆
Real fact, this movie made sure that the compies terrify me. I'm legitimately more terrified of the compies than I am for the t-rex, raptors, or any other dino. I just feel like you'd have a much slower death with the compies nibbling away than the one bite others could do😅
I think you can tell the difference in the CGI between the first two by the fact that when the Velociraptor leaps on the guy from from the grass and is fully extended, that's a CGI shot in it looks really good, and shows how galvanic and active these creatures would be as opposed to the limits that were placed on their movements by the use of animatronics and actors in suits in the first one.
Fun fact, even though I don’t remember the full story…the character Robert Burke in this movie is a reference and/or parody of real world paleontologist Robert Bakker, whose theories often clashed with those of Jack Horner, who worked on the first four movies in this franchise…most reluctant to this story is that debate of weather or not T Rex was a hunter of scavenger, Bakker believed the former, and Horner the latter. And Burke’s death in this movie is a reference to that debate, apparently when Bakker saw that death, he just said “I told you T Rex was a predator” which is honestly the best attitude you can have for your rival killing a parody version of you
Your reaction at 16:01 was perfect (🤭)!! Every time I hear that roar no matter how many times I watch this movie my heart skips a beat. Lol at 33:39 and 36:56!! U definitely had a fun time watching this. Can’t wait to see what u think of Jurassic Park 3!!😊😁🦖🩸🏝️🌃
There was a video game, Lost World: Chaos Island. Would be considered rather lame bt today's game standards. But when you clicked on Eddie, the character who got ripped in half, sometimes he would say, "Didn't I die, in..in the movie, I died."
The compy death scene was, in the novel, Hammond’s death after going off on his own and getting jumpscared by his grandchildren playing a T Rex roar? (I forgot what they did with the PA system) and falls into a ravine, breaks legs, and falls victim to the anesthetic compy bites as they eat him alive. Also being from San Diego, I was hoping a Jurassic Park would have been there lol.
It's hilarious that you noticed the similarities there in John's music. He actually did something similar with Star Wars & Harry Potter where he accidentally let the same musical score get printed for both films because he was composing them both at the same time.
In the original "Jurassic Park" novel it is explained that the "Compy's" the tiny dinosaurs who take down Deter have an enzyme in their saliva that causes a tranquilizing or narcotic effect when bitten by enough of them. With this they can subdue larger prey and just wait for them to pass out making it easier to feed. That's why it seemed as if they'd attack and back off and wait and see if it was taking effect.
I'm sure that the dad telling his wife to leave their daughter alone was just tired of his wife bothering their daughter (being a mom), but then regrets it when his daughter gets attacked because she was alone. Nice job dad! Father of the year!
22:57 "did he really have to get ripped in half like that?" "Probably wouldn't be realistic right" 👍 Of course an animal with 6-8 tons of biteforce which would literly rip you in half like you ripping a hotdog in half in a single bite.
This movie lowkey traumatized me as a kid, mainly because of the part where the boy saw the trex from his window... I was lowkey scared of looking out the window at night for some time because I was scared I'd see a trex staring at me😭
I think "Lost World: Jurassic Park" is one of John Williams best work. You can just hear how much fun he had with it. It is much more primal and darker than the score of the first movie.
The compys (little dinos) have venom in their saliva like a komodo dragon in the book. That's why he looked really sluggish and didn't put up much of a fight. The venom from the first attack was taking effect.
A couple fun facts if you don't mind very mild spoliers to the novels..... .... The idiot guy who bothered the Compys ( minis), his scene where he fell down the hill and got attacked by the Compys, a similar thing happened to Hammond at the end of the first book. So come The Lost World novel, recordings were used for him instead. Then the last 20 minutes never happened in the book. It was highly emphasized not to take dinos off the island. Everything finished on the island.
Idk if anyone noticed, but the compy that popped out at the one guy, it had a red eye, meaning that was the same one he zapped. Also yeah, basically, it isnt said in the movies but the compies have venom in their bites that basically act like anesthesia
the 5 deaths is an artifact of the adaptation from book to film. in the novel there was a local legend that a warrior was caught and sentenced to death by a King and each island represented a different type of death punishment from immolation to hanging to decapitation and the warrior responded by saying he wanted them all. also herbivores are not actually a really good sight. In nature herbivores are commonly the most dangerous animals. Hippos and elephants for instance kill more humans than lions, tigers, bears or wolves. Other humans, saltwater crocs, dogs and snakes are the only macro-animals deadlier. Herbivores are naturally aggressive because they are preyed on by carnivores while carnivores in general don't attack unless hungry and are relatively easy to scare off in most instances (again unless starving) because injury for them spells death. good news with eddie is that he died before being ripped and he didn't share the gruesome death of his book counterpart which is more graphic and touched on a lot longer. Also glad you touched on the Nick getting the hunters to listen, it's one of the things that bothers me most. They would have absolutely no reason to like or respect him while even if Ludlow is a bad leader and not effective motivator he'd actually have enough to get them to listen since he still is paying them and it wasn't his fault things went south. If they wanted to still highlight that then Ian should have roused the group instead of Nick. Originally all of the hunting group wouldn't have died with the raptors, instead some would have survived to the workers village or to jump off the tall grass into a controlled descent over a cliff with gliders....where they would be attacked by pterosaurs who would finish them off but that was cut down or thrown out in favor of the san diego stuff. also you missed the nick van owen joke...lol ian did what nick did earlier in the movie by saying his full name. Last, flying dinosaurs are actually full reptiles. Oh and the extended soundtrack is available for purchase or youtube, it is a must listen. Some of the tracks that were newly released (not on a previous version of the soundtrack or completely unused in the film) are incredible, a good listen for a music fan. Very unique to film scores.
Something about Compys that they neglected to say in the movie is that they have a venomous bite, in small doses its not that bad but it's more lethal the more there are. They're mainly scavengers though, meaning they just eat leftovers from a kill from bigger carnivores.
Another amazing reaction! Interesting fact: the way Stark is killed by the Compsognathus, “Compies”, is quite similar how an important character was slain in the original novel. I won’t spoil it in case you read the novel. 🦖💛❤️🖤
Funfact its Spielbergs King Kong. Same storyline. In the Making Of of the first movie he loved the animatronics of the 70's King Kong, wich why he wanted a giant gate for Jurassic Park. With Lost World he made actually his version with King Kong.
Some things about the boat that transports the T-Rex don't make sense; like how did the guy who closed the door on the T-Rex die, and how did the guy in the cabin get killed when the T-Rex wouldn't even fit. Things like that. I recall seeing once that they'd originally intended for a small pack of raptors to have gotten onto the boat and then escape into the city as well, but they cut it because they didn't have a good way to stop them all without just killing them, which would kind of undermine the whole message of the movie.
Roland wanted to hunt the T-Rex because he had already hunted basically every other land carnivore on Earth and he was bored out of his mind. In a deleted scene, he pics a fight with a group of guys in their 30's and fought them all with one hand literally tied behind his back, messed all of them up, and Ajay (his best friend) remarked that he did it out of sheer boredom. Once he learned about the existence of the T-Rex, he felt it was his last opportunity for an actual challenge as a hunter.
Yeah but “why” does he want to hunt every land carnivore. I wonder if it has to do with him feeling the need to earn the right to be the apex predator on the planet which he kinda explained.
@@thecocoacouchI imagine it's similar to how a UFC fighter wants to fight the best of the best opponents so he/she can prove they're the best. Roland is a hunter and he wants to prove that he's the best by hunting the best of the best and the most dangerous animals there are. A herbivore aint really that dangerous; a carnivore is. He probs also just enjoys the hunt and the adrenaline from it too I imagine. Keep in mind that all hunters are obviously not like Roland lol. Most hunters hunt to put food on their table or cause an animal in their area is causing trouble for the public or their way of living.
I'm really enjoying your reactions. You're enjoyable to watch along with. John Williams is such an incredible composer. I'm aa bit into soundtracks myself. I'm sorry, but if a Tyrannosaurus rex (or any predator) stuck its head in my tent while I was asleep, I'd be pissing/shitting myself. I also feel so bad when Eddie gets Lady & The Tramped by the male and female Tyrannosaurs.
Side notes:
The way you describe Eddie's demise is sending me 😂😂😂
Eddie deserved better 😢
Now I want to see an edit with the music from that Lady & the Tramp scene.
@@tyranusfan
The Rexes feasting while "Bella Notte" plays in the background would be oddly cute.
I'm not going to lie, that is terrifying. I am glad they went extinct.
The hunter saying "Predators don't hunt unless they are hungry."
Me watching the movie being like "But Human's are supposedly the greatest of all predators, and you're here hunting for sport, not food."
The guy in the phone box is David Koepp, one of the screenwriters :)
Also Steven Spielberg has a little Easter egg at he end - when they are all watching the convoy of boats going back to Isla Sorna, you see the reflections in the tv of Ian, Sarah and Kelly.
"Did she just say we're not here to interact with them?" 😂 I just put 2 and 2 together on that, with the irony, and I've seen this multiple times.
Grew up watching this series and love it also you need to watch Disney's 2000 Dinosaur movie once you finish this series it's a great movie and I know you will love it
I’m glad I caught this when it was first uploaded. I recommend you read the two books as they are so good.
Ditto!! I love how there is some clear inspiration from both books in every one of the films
"How many Sarah's do you think are on this island??" Classic
I will always be a JP fan but they did Eddie so dirty in this. 😭😭 Poor guy, he only wanted to help!!
At least it wasn't his novel death.

He was my favorite character. That scene where he is pinned under the mangled roll cage and the camera shows him contorting in his seat to keep the accelerator pedal pressed... damn. Every time I watch that scene a little part of me hopes that *this* time... he manages to get the dart rifle untangled.
Also good attention pointing out Malcolm’s issues as a dad, as father-child relationships is a reoccurring theme in most Spielberg films.
Two father-child relationships if you include the two T-rexes in the city. Lol.
due to his own father issues.
@@meganlodon oh really nice catch. I always forget the Rex that was in San Diego was the male
pls talk more about the music in movies. John Williams is a genius and I loved hearing your thoughts.

Considering that the bites also gave you a euphoric feeling while being eaten by the compys, that is a brutal way to go
The fact that Eddie still gave his all to save Sarah, Ian, and Nick even as he was being attacked by T-Rexes is amazing. What a true hero🥺❤️
Roland Tembo didn't break the baby rex's leg, he was actually pretty mad about it.
(Cops and animal control arrive. T-Rex roars.)
Cops: THIS JOB DON'T PAY ENOUGH! (Retreat.)
What was AC planning to do? Nab it with one of their nifty little neck snares?

Oscar: "I think so too"

lol
That’s how good John Williams is, he looks to his own works for inspiration. Legend.
31:01 I love how the guy yells "Don't go into the long grass!" And then proceeds to run straight into it with everyone else
This movie is a guilty pleasure. It's got some stupid characters that make stupid decisions, but its still pretty fun. I love the climax in the city even though most people think its pointless.
Sarah was infuriating for me, i was screaming "let her die" the whole movie
I remember watching this is the theater when it first came out. That part where the raptor suddenly poked it's head out near the little girl had the whole audience jump and scream including me! I think that might be a core memory.
This came out when I was little, only saw bits and pieces of it when mom watched it, but had nightmares about T Rex's walking outside my house and looking through my windows for years thanks to this movie
The opening scene of this movie harkens back to a similar scene in the original Michael Crichton novel (he wrote two Jurassic Park novels) where a few "compys" are discovered eating a LIVE NEW BORN HUMAN BABY a BITE AT A TIME
Jurassic Park is just one of about 18 novels written by the brilliant Dr John Michael Crichton MD that have been adapted into motion pictures.
I love the PURE JOY you have watching this! This is my favorite JP movie by far and it makes me so happy to see someone else enjoy it
The composer for all of the Jurassic movies was John Williams who also did Star Wars war of the worlds Jaws, Harry Potter
I love the first one, but this one just holds a special place in my heart :')
excited to see your reaction to the third movie! it's also enjoyable imo
fun story
I saw this in theater at the age of 6.
Fun fact: the dinosaur (pack) that attacks the little girl was the very first dinosaur species to ever appear on Earth (hence why it’s so teeny-weeny)
In the book those compies (the little green ones) had a mildly venomous bite that gradually wore their prey down which is how they were able to kill
16:03 Literaly the best excited Spongebob impression that's ever been done
"Im not necessarely excited for someone to die, but Im excited to see if the writting is good". Legendary reaction right there
The compy death scene was, in the novel, Hammond’s death after going off on his own and getting jumpscared by his grandchildren playing a T Rex roar?
22:57 "did he really have to get ripped in half like that?"
"Probably wouldn't be realistic right" 👍
Of course an animal with 6-8 tons of biteforce which would literly rip you in half like you ripping a hotdog in half in a single bite.
This movie lowkey traumatized me as a kid, mainly because of the part where the boy saw the trex from his window... I was lowkey scared of looking out the window at night for some time because I was scared I'd see a trex staring at me😭
Someone may have said this already, but the way the dude dies from the compys is what happens to Hammond in the novel.
I think "Lost World: Jurassic Park" is one of John Williams best work. You can just hear how much fun he had with it. It is much more primal and darker than the score of the first movie.
Within the first 10 seconds, I couldn't help but notice the apparent "bruise" on Oscar's neck. Boy, hate it when that happens!
At 18:28, Malcolm noticed that there were never any footsteps, so the Rex's never left and were about to attack.
Wives all across america:

"Hold my Root Beer"
Compsognathus, the small rat like dinosaurs, at least in the Jurassic franchise supposedly have trace amounts of venom in their bite
42:56 And Thus JP3 was born. Dude, how is it he keeps falling for the teasers at the end of each movie? lol
John William is the music composer.
Probably the most famous and iconic movie music composer of all time
39:11 Actually, there is one single Blockbuster left. I believe its still fully operational, but its more of a nostalgia store.
The game hunter Roland is the best character in the movie, he has 2 deleted scenes that make him even better
Eddie was the true MVP in this film 🥺 RIP Eddie
Some things about the boat that transports the T-Rex don't make sense; like how did the guy who closed the door on the T-Rex die, and how did the guy in the cabin get killed when the T-Rex wouldn't even fit. Things like that. I recall seeing once that they'd originally intended for a small pack of raptors to have gotten onto the boat and then escape into the city as well, but they cut it because they didn't have a good way to stop them all without just killing them, which would kind of undermine the whole message of the movie.
The baby t-Rex
Probably some raptors or hords of compies sneaked into the ship.
Most hunters hunt to put food on their table or cause an animal in their area is causing trouble for the public or their way of living.
in the books, comp bites are venomous, their saliva contains dangerous levels of serotonin that causes hallucination and dizziness
I'm really enjoying your reactions. You're enjoyable to watch along with. John Williams is such an incredible composer. I'm aa bit into soundtracks myself. Two of my favorites (non-John Williams) are Henry V by Patrick Doyle, and The City of Lost Children by Angelo Badalamenti. (The movies are excellent, too, though Lost Children you might want to read about before viewing)
