      @morrisoniice Месяц назад +73

      The voice of Doc is Paul Newman, who had a fondness for cars and race cars which is partly why he took the role. I think this was one of his last roles before he passed hence the memorial was not just a tribute to the character, but also to the actor. 😊

    The story of Radiator Springs is sadly the true story of many towns on Route 66 once The Highway System bypassed many small towns and took their revenue away. Traffic is a trickle compared to its heyday, Route 66 today is about 95% tourist. Worth driving to take a peak into the past. Note* Route 66 is no longer contiguous, some portions are in disrepair or gone altogether. Get an Updated Tourist Map

Rather than risk jinxing their streak they wrote, recorded, animated, rendered, scored, and edited in the closing scene with The Underminer in something like 36 hours in order to include Ratzenberger while still making their release schedule.

When this was made, Arnold Schwarzenegger was actually the governor of California, so the Humvee saying "Lightning McQueen must be found at all costs" was a nod to that. And at the start of the final race, they are talking about everything shutting down to watch, and show a sign that say the City of Emeryville is closed. Emeryville CA is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is where the Pixar studios are located.

    Hi Oscar! I’ve been watching your reaction videos for a while now and I’m a huge fan. As someone who normally doesn’t like watching people’s reactions to things, somehow your channel hits differently. You just seem like such a genuine, positive person and the amount of insight and thought you give to every thing you watch is a nice change from all the other hustle and bustle on RUclips. Since hearing you were Christian, (I am too) I thought I’d recommend the show The Chosen, which has been my favorite show for a really long time. It’s the first multi season show on the life of Christ. It really brings the bible stories to life and each episode is really well made, written and acted, and has tons of emotional moments and some jokes too. I first found your channel through the Avatar the Last Airbender reactions vids you posted, which I really enjoyed (also the Prince of Egypt and all the Toy Story ones)!! Anyway, I’d love to see your reaction to The Chosen. It would really make my day. Oof, that was a huge comment 😂😂 Thanks for all you bring to RUclips and God bless!

    Fun Fact: In the German dubbing, for example, Daniel Brühl voices Lightning McQueen and the King is voiced by Niki Lauda, who was one of the most successful Formula 1 racing drivers of his time. The former German Formula 1 racing driver Michael Schumacher also lent his voice to the Ferrari in Luigi's workshop in both the German and English dubbing.

Nowadays I’m a HUGE NASCAR fan (possibly because of Cars, I suppose) and feel like I have a pretty extensive knowledge on the sport, so watching this movie back these days and noticing all the little references and odes to real NASCAR, as well as all the voice-acting cameos from actual NASCAR personalities like Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Mario Andretti etc that I was oblivious to as a child is absolutely fascinating 🤣

    I’ve always wondered how this movie was pitched. “Okay, hear me out. Imagine Doc Hollywood, small town nostalgia, learning to appreciate life, romance… BUT instead of a hot shot plastic surgeon he’s actually a car. Like an autonomous car with a tongue and everything. In fact, everyone is a car. The whole world is cars!” So wild lmao

    41:55 - Best for *EVERYONE!*
    Doc calling the press did Lightning a favor.
    Lightning's entire life and purpose was focused on racing, and for him to miss out on that opportunity would have left him always wondering what could have been.
    And he would have also missed the learning experience to realize there are other more important things than racing.

    • @thecocoacouch
      @thecocoacouch  Месяц назад +3

      He did the wrong thing; that happened to produce a positive result in the end. Everything worked out well but it was still wrong. Also just to add to it, he didn’t make that choice to help Lightning, he was motivated to get rid of him and spare himself the pain of having a reminder of what happened to him rolling around. I’m just saying this because sometimes people confuse the choices they make with results and then repeat poor choices they’ve made because of a positive but lucky outcome. Obviously Doc though learnt what he did was wrong and made up for it.

    As a girl who grew up in the country next to her grandparents' farm, yes, combines do have the potential to do damage to a car if they drive over it. However, that would only really happen if the other vehicle is standing still as combines have a max speed of around 30 kilometers per hour.
    As for the song "Life is a Highway," fun fact: Rascal Flatts are not the original artist; the original was done by Tom Cochrane in 1991. It was one of my favourite songs on the radio when I was growing up.
    Great reaction as always, and I look forward to whatever else is coming up. :)

      Based on how it’s portrayed in the movie, it looks like everything Chick does is technically legal but considered very poor sportsmanship. But the NASCAR rules in the Cars universe don’t necessarily line up with NASCAR rules in real life

    • @battleblaster4203
      @battleblaster4203 Месяц назад

      Eeeeeh for a while it technically was as long as you made it look unintentional (thats what separated good drivers from bad) but post 2010 they started cracking down on what made NASCAR , well NASCAR, the wrecks ,the fights and such and ruining it , because as long as you did it and nobody got seriously hurt (i.e barely more than a bruised Ego or budget) then it was ok (and doing it so no one got hurt was also a separation between good and bad)
      So while some of what Chick did was barely legal ,most of it was outright illegal (all of it is illegal in todays standards )

    The voice of the King was Richard Petty, aka, King Richard, winner of 200 NASCAR cup series races and 7 Cup championships. NASCAR royalty. He actually campaigned the 1970 Plymouth Superbird aero nose, rear wing, and all back in the day. The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was the first of the winged cars, and also the first NASCAR-prepped car to top 200mph. That shade of blue became known as Petty blue, and was a King Richard trademark.

    Watching this when I was young was one of the things that got me seriously into cars. Watching it now I notice all the people from NASCAR and car culture in general they managed to get in here, usually voiced by the real person. Apologise in advance for this being long and nerdy.
    The King is voiced by Richard Petty, winningest driver in NASCAR history who was nicknamed The King, and the car is the same car he drove in 1970, down to the paintjob.
    Doc is fictional, but the Fabulous Hudson Hornets were a group of said cars and drivers that dominated NASCAR in the early 50s, again with the same paintjob.
    Dale Earnhardt Jr. is in here as a car that looks very similar to what he drove around the time the movie was released.
    The Piston Cup commentaters are real NASCAR broadcasters from the time period.
    The Rusteeze guys are two brothers who hosted a weekly radio show called Car Talk.
    Cameos from Arnold Schwarzenegger (proud owner of a Hummer H1), Jay Leno (owner of one of largest collections of rare classic cars, and he knows his way around every one of them), Michael Schumacher (7-time F1 World Champion, arguably the GOAT).
    And then there's redneck comedian Larry the Cable Guy playing the redneck tow truck. Mater is pretty much just Larry doing his stand-up routine in a recording booth.
    Oh, and in the British release, Lightning's agent is voiced by Jeremy Clarkson, one of the trio that presented Top Gear and The Grand Tour, two shows that have been the greatest influence on car culture ever.

    This movie had a pretty interesting and bizarre history such as how they modeled the cars and especially the aforementioned deleted scenes where the storyboard artists played with car anatomy. Like deleted scene where McQueen has a nightmare where his engine just protrudes out of his hood, or the one where he encounters a field of dead cars. Yeah that’s about what I have to say.

    Lightning's racing number, 95, is a reference to the fact that Toy Story, Pixar's first full length film, came out in 1995. You'll see other references to this in Pixar movies as well. For exame, in Toy Story 3, the train that the toys save during Andy's play time in the opening scene has 95 on its side.
