This film isn't even close to Pixar's average. It's not up to the same level as Cars, but Pixar has made plenty of more mediocre films at this point. Incredibles 2 was way worse than Cars 2, for example.

That was my issue with this movie! The miscommunication scene really put Lightning and Mater in a negative light! For Mater, he could've told Holley that he had to stay and help Lightning finish the first WGP race. Not to mention, he could've also removed his headset. And for Lightning, he could've just turned off his radio and focused on the race. While I do get why many people aren't fans of this one, it's still one of my favorite animated movies purely because of how fun it is. Not to mention the fact that it's _such_ a spy movie lol
@@blakeverdon4492 I think it has to do with how the sequel was mostly centered on Mater than with Lightning McQueen and he kind of took much of the attention away from McQueen in the sequel, as it takes the Spy trope where the "unlikely hero becomes a Spy" but the message and the writing was incoherent in Pixar Standards, along with the fact there we’re so many Antagonists in this film. Secondly, having Miles Axelrod being the true evil mastermind and leader instead of Professor Z (who I still consider to be more of an evil leader and mastermind than Axelrod) was like a dumb WTF moment.
Cars 2 is my favourite spy movie. I love how they have all the iconic features of a spy movie but try to fix it's faults. Like how they do the classic thing where they have the good guys in a death trap but just leave them alone whereupon they escape. BUT in this film the bad guys intended them to escape.
Oh last thing. In regards to the Luigi and Guido story, there's a YT video that talks about their whole journey from Italy to the US. You don't have to "react" to it, but its a good thing to watch. Pixar is really great at bringing these characters to life.
Lol, I feel kinda bad. The only thing I've seen Campbell in other than this is Burn Notice. However, him as Sam Axe made me go 'that was the perfect voice for this spy guy' here. XD
@@warriormaiden9829 Yeah I live Bruce Campbell. He was in the Toby Maguire Spiderman movies, is the narrator in a Spiderman PS2 game and the mayor in Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs…But my favorite is Burn Notice and Sam Axe show/movie, plus he’s got a great spy name in the show he uses-Charles/Chuck Finley!
9:34 oh hi Lewis i forgot you were in this. And as a Mercedes lmao (Lewis Hamilton is an f1 modren legend. In the Spanish and German dub they use other icons like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.)
The main thing i hate about this movie is that Mater is so annoying, uneducated and embarrassing, constantly throwing Mcqueen under the bus, but the the message of the movie is that he doesn't need to change and just needs to be appreciated. Its such a one sided plot point that i can't get behind.
Personally it’s also just….mater isn’t the smartest person in the cars universe…. But he is not THIS stupid. Mater as a character is actually kinda smart. I like the movie but…Mater doesn’t really feel like He’s the Mater we know and love in this movie. He does towards the end, but idk..I’m pretty sure that this movie was made this way…not because it was the original plan, but because of Paul Newman’s death. Had he not died I’m fairly certain we would have gotten a very different movie. They basically had to improvise and make do with what they had…at least that’s what I think happened.
Exactly, each instalment of this franchise teaches you a different lesson Cars 1: slow down and enjoy life, it’s not the destination, it’s the journey. Cars 2: it’s ok to be yourself, Cars 3: moving on is an opportunity to have a fresh start
Are the arguments and conflicts contrived? Yes. Does Mater have plot armor to end all plot armor? Yes. Does a part of me still enjoy this movie because I know a lot of rednecks like Mater who get judged as dumb even though they actually have a lot of knowledge and wisdom? Also, yes. And is the Brad Paisley song a banger? Also, also, yes. 😂 All in all, I love Mater, but he shines a lot more brightly in the original movie. I think this one was better in concept than execution, unfortunately.
Cars 2 wasn’t everyone’s favorite but personally it’s mine because of the spy movie aspect, and I am a huge sucker for spy movies (I also love that Cars 2 gives Mater a spotlight, he definitely needed one)
I would say they erroneously named it Cars 2 because it really had nothing to do with the original story, but I really love this one. They pick up on the original story more in the 3rd one. It’s more focused on racing.
Although I enjoyed the soundtrack by Michael Giacchino, the performances and inclusions of Michael Caine (Finn McMissle), Emily Mortimer (Holley Shiftwell), and John Turturro (Francesco), and the character of Mater, I feel that Mater becoming the main character of this film kind of took much of the attention away from Lightning McQueen in the sequel, and the fact that it takes the Spy trope where the "unlikely hero becomes a Spy" takes away the message of the first and third film, along with the fact there we’re so many Antagonists in this film. Secondly, having Miles Axelrod being the true evil mastermind and leader instead of Professor Z (who I still consider to be more of an evil leader and mastermind than Axelrod) was like a dumb WTF moment. I know there are some folks that still enjoyed this film and that’s fine more power to all of you, it’s your opinion to enjoy _Cars 2_ but personally _Cars 2_ is literally Pixar’s weakest and worst film and the film was a massive turning point for Pixar, that the studio wasn’t invincible with having all of their films gaining critical acclaim, so it took the studio 3-4 years to regain their footing again on making critically acclaimed films until _Inside Out_ was released. Yes, we had _Brave_ and _Monster’s University_ released after _Cars 2_ and those films had better critical reception than _Cars 2_ but not the same level of Critical Acclaim compared to Pixar’s other films released before _Cars 2_ (e.g. _Toy Story 1-3, A Bugs Life, Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall•E, Up)_
@@SilvanaPuris2310 Seriously?!? Where did you get the goad that I disliked Finn, Holley, and Francesco? I’m not bashing the film to death, or I despise it to the bone, I just consider this to be Pixar’s weakest film, and again as I mentioned in my thread I respect that folks loved the film so more power to you. But what just frustrates me to have people like you accuse me and make off-color tasteless response that I dislike the movie while being toxic that it just bothers me for no rhyme and reason so literally learn to be more civil and respectful for goodness sake.
@@MrTragedious986 Agreed. Pretty much the sequel had a complete 180 and just have it be a spy comedy while the first and third film was a coming of age road trip film focusing on Lightning McQueen and personally I feel that the third film felt more like an actual continuation of the first movie than the sequel. Not to mention Cars 2 was Pixar’s first film with a Rotten Score and with mixed-negative reception.
Fun fact: Someone did the calculations based off all 3 movies and McQueen in top condition and speed was probably around 230-250mph..i was like ummm wtf
I remember watching this movie with my dad , one of the last times I went to the theater with him ( he passed away ) so this movie means so much to me , cars 2 may not be a racing movie but it has a special place in my heart and memories ❤
The main problem with this movie IMO is that it doesn't really have an underlying message like all other Pixar films. Pixar uses fantastical worlds and childish stories to give out heartfelt messages which adults can enjoy and keep revisiting. This movie just takes place in the Cars universe, but is a spy thriller with no real message behind it. Maybe really small messages here and there but... "Never act out against your friend who's acting stupid" is a bad message. Many other flaws, such as breaking a ton of Cars lore, focusing too much on the comedy relief character, characters acting vague and obtuse... But that's the main one IMO.
Yeah. If pixar had a message in mind while writing this, they might have realized that possible take aways from this movie are ‘disabled people are evil and out to get you, and ‘eco friendly energy is dangerous/ a scam from big companies’. Yeah the movie doesn’t push those messages, but it doesn’t dissuade them either. Mater sympathizes with the lemons, but while the movie does care about how intelligent and worthy mater is, the movie doesn’t acknowledge that maybe we should treat the physically disabled with dignity? Alinoll turns out to be just gas, but it was dangerous and a scam masquerading as alternative fuel. If the cars weren’t personified my lemon annoyance wouldn’t matter, but they are.
Also, so many characters have to be a little dumb for most of it to happen. Mater is smarter than that. He generally understands what is unacceptable when you tell him the first time. He would understand to stop talking on the line. And fin is the worst. Theres no way in heck he would continue to think mater is a real spy.
Loved this movie and the first one as a child, I'm also looking forward to your reaction to the third movie which I believe you'll find more like the first one in its morale and positivity. Not a Disney movie, but I hope you'll get around to watching Back to the Future some time if you haven't already, it's such a classic trilogy! Many thanks for your reactions :)
I didn’t see anyone talking about it in the comments, but the format at the end of the movie was reused a lot for the little serie of shorts, I which Mater is telling McQueen crazy anecdotes (that don’t seem real) every episode, but at the end of each one there is a “proof” he really lived his story. Just like how Holley pops up a proves his spy adventures! I really loved those shorts as a kid so I figured I wanted to share it with you :)
Great reaction I think this one’s better than the first one, but I can understand why people don’t like it. They want more lightning and less toe meter well if that’s what you want part three is for you, but it didn’t do very well the box office, but you should see it for yourself and decide for yourself because you’re a good judge of character and judge your film, you can appreciate that Movies and that’s good. Thanks for the fun until next time.
Guido and Luigi's parents probably immigrated to America in the early 1900s and eventually went to California in upcoming years because around that time it would rise to be the most populous state in upcoming decades. they prob kept in touch with relatives back home including Guido and Luigi themselves as they came to be later on. idk whats canon but my guess would be Luigi and Guido aren't native Italians but since they got raised by Italian immigrants and most likely lived in the north east coast in the new york area where lots of european culture is especially Italian. they had the accent and were close in touch with the culture before perhaps moving to California for opportunities where eventually coming across radiator springs just my theory tho
I feel like they should’ve made it more clear that Doc died and paid more of a tribute to him for a long time. I didn’t even know he was dead until cars three came out.
I can understand the hate this movie gets for being the 2nd movie of the Cars series. It should have been advertised as Mater's movie. I actually love this movie and it used to be replayed so much because my kids loved it too. We often forget that these movies are for kids and kids loves these movies
this movie is so underrated just because it is called Cars 2, I understand but still this movie gets a lot of hate, it may be a bad sequel but its a great movie!
Love you and your videos your reactions and commentary. Your videos always puts me in a better mood. You are definitely the best probably the only best RUclipsr reactor.❤
It's amazing how much of this movie's plot is reliant on miscommunication and misunderstanding. Also, since the first movie established in a joke that female cars are flashing with their headlights, doesn't that mean Flo did the same thing right here 38:02? 😅
its a very different movie from the first one. if you grew up watching james bond marathons at your grandmas house on the holidays, you are ok with it.
Marshmallows 😂 never seen this before love your reaction channel. The spy car is voiced by Michael Cane he's a great actor. This movie doesn't seem to bad although I still miss the characters from the first movie
When I saw this movie I thought it was the worst Pixar movie ever. However, upon rewatch and the added perspective of Toy Story 4, I can say that, while this movie isn't a hit, mainly because they made the comedic relief character the main character, it is enjoyable and doesn't really break anyone's character. Watching Toy Story 4 has made me see that this movie could've been a while lot worse. So much worse that it could have ruined the awesome story of the first Cars. But it didn't. It added onto the world while giving us more time getting to know Mater. And it's actually really fun to see Mater's knowledge of car parts save the day. I will still be typing up a comment for Toy Story 4. Just haven't found the time. I've been moving.
Always nice to see your opinion and reactions even if it's not my favourite film 😁 Personally I think the First film is best, second is meh, third is good and wholesome so I look forward to your reaction to the Third x
I honestly loved it too. It's not really that canon to the other two amazing movies and it's not for everyone. At least it gave Mater the floor. I really like how they animated the foreign countries.
I am glad you watch it. This is not a bad movie. I don't like it but I don't hate it as many people do. IMO this sequel is just not up to pixar standars. That's it It is the lowest in the pixar ranking but that doesn't mean is a terrible movie as some people make it to be
This one is my personal favourte of the Cars films. I love spy movies and this was one of the first ones I ever saw as a kid, and so it will always be dear to me. I've heard a lot of people don't really like Cars 2 as much, which I can see as it is the one least fitting in the trilogy, but I would watch it on repeat all the time.
If you have a chance to check out Cars 3, I highly recommend it. Honestly, I liked Cars 1 most of the series. I didn't like 2 that much because of the weird spy stuff and the miscommunication between Lightning and Mater that caused too much unnecessary drama. However, I thought number 3 was okay for the most part since the first half started a little predictable but at least picks up its slack later in that movie.
If your a fan of the LOTR style fantasy stuff. You’ll love Pixar’s Onward, it’s one of my personal favorites in recent years and I highly recommend it.
A cliche can be facts but it’s more that it’s a trait they always highlight in films rather than other aspects of that culture. That’s what makes it a cliche.
It still makes no sense that in the first movie they made *Michael Schumacher* a normal "sport car" *Ferrari* and in this movie they shown that instead *F1* cars exist. Even *McQueen* specified (always in the first movie) that Schumacher was racing in another category. But if it wasn't in F1, where then? On the freeway?
Fun fact: After giving Mater the huge portion of wasabi, the chef says "Okiyami moshi agemasu" which roughly translates to "My condolences"
See, on the DVD, it has subtitles for the translation on that spot. So I already knew that (and the subtitles said "my condolences" exactly).
i think he already knew that Mater picked the Wasabi on Accident..
4:42 Paul Newman, the actor who voiced Doc, passed away between Cars and Cars 2…so that was a tribute to the character/actor.

The blue American that got blown up by the bad guys (and passed the secret spy stuff to Mater) is Bruce Campbell. I love ❤him!
In the Spanish and German dub they use other icons like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.)
my nephew (21 now), used to love this movie. we watched iit all the time. i was a bit bummed when i realized so many people dislike it. its amusing
Exactly, each instalment of this franchise teaches you a different lesson
Cars 1: slow down and enjoy life, it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.
Cars 2: it’s ok to be yourself,
Cars 3: moving on is an opportunity to have a fresh start
I’ve said this before, but I still find hilarious that the lemon mob boss is a British car, any car guys here could back me up with this
Are the arguments and conflicts contrived?
_Toy Story 1-3, A Bugs Life, Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall•E, Up)_
Let’s not forget the writing feels rough and amateurish for Pixar standards, and there’s another issue is that this movie has an identity crisis.
This was my childhood and I still watch this it’s a inspiration I remember I was a big fan back then
Fun fact: Someone did the calculations based off all 3 movies and McQueen in top condition and speed was probably around 230-250mph..i was like ummm wtf
This is my favorite of the franchise. I know a lot of people don't like it but I love spy movies and this improved the franchise by 100% for me
Thanks to my nephew who is obsessed with the cars movies, I'm pretty sure over the years I've seen the movies over 100 times.
Can't wait for you to watch cars 3!
I remember watching this movie with my dad , one of the last times I went to the theater with him ( he passed away ) so this movie means so much to me , cars 2 may not be a racing movie but it has a special place in my heart and memories ❤
41:12 the blue one is a rally car
@@serpentmaster1323You're right and you should say it
The Northwestern is actually a fishing vessel and the guy voicing it is it's captain
YEAAAAA CARS 2
Edit: will you finish the trilogy???
Cars two is the best

My youngest brother was still a toddler when this came out and he had so many toys and even a chair from the movie. It was his favorite film
1:54 guy your thinking of is Michel Caine also from the Italian job 1969
I love this movie so much it will allways be one of my favourite movies to watch
12:42 "Mission Impossible: Fallout" reference!
Guido and Luigi's parents probably immigrated to America in the early 1900s and eventually went to California in upcoming years because around that time it would rise to be the most populous state in upcoming decades. they prob kept in touch with relatives back home including Guido and Luigi themselves as they came to be later on. idk whats canon but my guess would be Luigi and Guido aren't native Italians but since they got raised by Italian immigrants and most likely lived in the north east coast in the new york area where lots of european culture is especially Italian. they had the accent and were close in touch with the culture before perhaps moving to California for opportunities where eventually coming across radiator springs
just my theory tho
I feel like they should’ve made it more clear that Doc died and paid more of a tribute to him for a long time. I didn’t even know he was dead until cars three came out.
I've never been this early!! I'm so excited to watch this with you! :D
10:58 when this movie first came out I had toys of those four cars right there on the railing
I can understand the hate this movie gets for being the 2nd movie of the Cars series. It should have been advertised as Mater's movie. I actually love this movie and it used to be replayed so much because my kids loved it too. We often forget that these movies are for kids and kids loves these movies
I've said it once and I'll say it again: Cars 2 is a really good spy movie that was unfortunately forced to also be a Cars movie.
26:25 dude predicated the bad ending right there lol
this movie is so underrated just because it is called Cars 2, I understand but still this movie gets a lot of hate, it may be a bad sequel but its a great movie!
26:20 Prophet Hades strikes again! Iykyk
The fishing boat has the name Northwestern writen on it which is a ship from the show "the deadliest catch" on discovery channel
That’s really cool 👍
its a very different movie from the first one. if you grew up watching james bond marathons at your grandmas house on the holidays, you are ok with it.
33:54
they had dirt track sections for all the race tracks in the WGP it’s a shame the race scenes didn’t have enough screen time
the races are boring
Oscar, I wonder if you'll do the second Princess Diaries movie.
It's been a little bit since you watched the first one.
P.S: I really like Cars 2
I was never a fan, but they came back hard with the 3rd one. My favorite by far
You need to watch the third one! It's more about lightning! Really good!!!
Marshmallows 😂 never seen this before love your reaction channel. The spy car is voiced by Michael Cane he's a great actor. This movie doesn't seem to bad although I still miss the characters from the first movie
The American spy was my favorite character of this movie
I like cars 2
Same
When I saw this movie I thought it was the worst Pixar movie ever.
Always nice to see your opinion and reactions even if it's not my favourite film 😁
Personally I think the First film is best, second is meh, third is good and wholesome so I look forward to your reaction to the Third x
I honestly loved it too. It's not really that canon to the other two amazing movies and it's not for everyone. At least it gave Mater the floor. I really like how they animated the foreign countries.
this movie is a bit controversial in the trilogy, personally I love it and think its good, thank you for the reaction!
I avoid the second movie and jump straight to the 3rd. The 3rd one made me cry, it was a great ending
This movie is underrated.. not close as bad how people say it would be
I am glad you watch it. This is not a bad movie. I don't like it but I don't hate it as many people do. IMO this sequel is just not up to pixar standars. That's it
It is the lowest in the pixar ranking but that doesn't mean is a terrible movie as some people make it to be
This one is my personal favourte of the Cars films.
The yellow girl car in Italy that said “i’ll make you dinner” is not cliché is facts (said as an Italian)
A cliche can be facts but it’s more that it’s a trait they always highlight in films rather than other aspects of that culture. That’s what makes it a cliche.
Yeah I remember how when I watched this movie the first time I more or less tuned out the spy shit.
fun fact, that yellow corvette is actually voiced by now retired Nascar driver Jeff Gordon
this is my favorite of the car franchise is saw it in the theater with my sister and my nephew
Movie Recommendation: Tin Tin!
Such a fun animated action movie!
