The Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale Movie was announced a while back in 2016! A1 Studio has been hard as work with this new SAO Movie Project.
Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale has Kirito, Asuna, Sinon and the rest of the SAO cast playing the Augmented Reality (AR) game Ordinal Scale.
Similar to the AR hit Pokemon GO, Ordinal Scale players use the Augma headset device to become emerged into the AR environment
The new SAO Ordinal Scale cast includes:
Yuna - The Ordinal Scale Diva
Eiji - Ordinal Scale Rank 2 Player
Dr Shigemura - Creator of the Augma device
Kirito And Asuna take the front stage for this Sword Art Online Movie!
Ordinal Scale builds on Asuna and Kirito's relationship and takes place after the Mother Rosario's Arc.

The movie is amazing. I watched it with my friend who don't even know what SAO is about, and he loves it! There's plenty of action that makes you excited and the story is well-timed so I'd recommend this to everyone.

The final boss fight against the floor 100 boss was the best thing I've ever seen in my life. It was like a real raid boss with mechanics and everything.
I like SAO so will watch this too but I want them to release this worldwide same day for fans
I just saw the movie; in my personal opinion it was excellent: "9.7/10". Is a story with a lot of nostalgia and at the same time telling you a new story. The battles, especially the last one were excellent in termina of animation and music. I really recommend it if you saw the series 👍👍👍

saw it in cinemas yesterday day of release in australia and u have to day it was hard to fault things which I'd been waiting for what must be four years now (can't remember when sao 1 was released) finally happened and it made me soo happy seriously if you love sao or even haven't heard much about it you'll love this movie
The best scene in movie is the last fight against boss on floor 100. That is so awesome, the music in background, the fight itself and that little detail of Asuna and Yuuki that was so emotional and..... idk i have no comment rly. SAO4LIFE

I've seen it. My favourite 2 scenes are when Silica sings in the shops and the final battle
And time. Definitely an awesome movie. :) Kirito leveled up so hard. I wish we had a bigger explanation of that golden-eyed god mode he triggers sometimes.

I watched it in theaters yesterday and the action scenes were just amazing :)

the last action scene when they were fighting the lvl100 aincrad monster, everyone just went all out. It was just amazing to see it on big screen. But then, I felt the ending was forced and it just kinda didn't really make sense. And so excited for season 3 the RATH (underworld) arc ^^ the LN is very good.
I loved the movie a lot I liked the ending it was so pretty, cool, amazing, crazy.
This was an awesome movie, I only watched it cuz I was bored waiting for ep 4 of alicization to drop (in dub) and I ended up loving it!

I think it fixes a lot of the problems people have with the main series I loved the movie it was insanely pretty and the story was well flushed out it didn't seem rushed the writing could have been better , but everything made sense.

(spoiler) not really. i was waiiitiiiinnnggggg foorrr asunnaaaa to use that mothers rosario(11hit combo) skill. got me he chills and teary eyed when i saw yuuki.

just finished watch it, imo this movie is pretty good but not the very best. the story lil bit flat for me but the pacing is good. the highlight of this movie obviously is the 6 minutes vs 100th ranked boss. i found few plot hole but still acceptable. this movie is great as 'intermezzo' for SAO S3 in the future.

The movie was beast
Late to the party but as a huge SAO fan I just had to wait to see the movie how I wanted to truly see it for the first time, so with no theaters near me playing it, had to wait for the bluray dub version to ship, and definitely no regrets. Watched it as soon as the mailman came. I thought it was amazing and I hope it will re-spark some SAO love to hopefully get a push to speed up production. I am excited for season three however, I really can't wait for Reki to really dive into his progressive reboot. Read the officially translated LNs and it is simply amazing. Hoping SAO lives long enough for that arc to really develop and hopefully be anime adapted.
Yeah I hope we get to see the progressive anime one day. 😄
Also I wouldn't worry about SAO needing a 'respark'. SAO is still the biggest LN series in Japan. While it does have it's loud haters online, the people who still actively love the series stand strong 😄
I am just excited to see the future of this series in all forms of media (Lns, TV, Movie, Games) and hope that this surprisingly good movie will grab back those in the middle who liked Aincrad and nothing else. I was iffy when I heard about the AR theme but it was actually really interest and well done. It also is a nice connector from S2 to the upcoming S3. Not gonna lie I have read all of the S3 arc that is fan translated already but will still purchase the official ones as they come out to continue supporting the production and doing my part to persuade them to release English versions (and hopefully faster)! Either way, thanks for the enjoyable video and sorry for the paragraph, not usually active in the comments of these communities but felt SAO and your video was worth the support.

This has to be my 2nd favorite movie. It's so close and this movie is amazing but at least to me was predictable. I also love the final battle and the song that went with it(wish I caan find it) but Princess Mononoke will always be my favorite movie then like I said before this and 3rd Spirited Away

The blurry comes out next month (Japanese but with subs) and the preorder for the dub is out now
Shit, now I wish I knew the movie came out in March so I could go and see it. I'll probably get the blu-ray edition when it comes out (sub or dub, but probably sub).

There's no way they could have realistically done a simul-dub for this anyway. The director mentioned they had just finished the movie a week before it hit theaters

SPOILER-TEXT!!!! I loved Ordinal Scale! Though it was a bit shocking seeing Kirito in so much white! xD But I loved that later on he got back his SAO looks! And of course the last fighting scene where Kirito has this really over-powered sword!But one thing I don't understand: When Kirito discovered who Heathcliff was in the first series, Kayaba said he would be the final boss awaiting them on floor 100. But in Ordinal Scale they fought the boss of floor 100 and it wasn't Kayaba but this really strong ... whatever, I forgott the name. So of course you could say that just once this boss was defeated they wouldn't be logged out but still have to win against Kayaba or that the monster was the boss of the beta-version of SAO and when Kayaba changed a few things like that the people weren't able to log out, he changed the final boss. But I missed that there was a better explanation of this happening as these were just theories of mine.Another thing that bugged me was ... what about that sword Kirito used at the end. The one that was really over-powered. Did he get that as an last attack bonus from the 100th floor boss? Because that doesn't make sense as when the game was beaten they wouldn't need the sword anymore, now would they? And he couldn't have gotten it because he was ranked first in Ordinal Scale as he got the sword when he fought the boss and was ranked first only afterwards, when he defeated this death-monster Yuna fought against. Does anyone has an explanation there?

So the plot of the movie was a guy who worked on the game and taught the past villains is trying to remake his daughter using a copy and is stealing memories of her from the players from SAO using this world changing device and a game instead of just copying their memories because it gives them an amnesia of the hostage event which is totally bad, of course, and Asuna gets killed and affected and now Kirito has to play to get em back and commit to the relationship of Asuna by ringing her while also getting over the fact he doesn't like the new tech because he actually has to be physically fit in order to play it and be god.
I'll watch it soon, Just tell me if Klein gets sidelined again or not?

As someone that reads the LN, I'm worried if I should or shouldn't consider the movie canon, the movie is a anime-original story, but was written by the original author(with some requests from the producers), but as far as I know, Mother's Rosario is a LN-original story, which means it wasn't present in the 2004 Web Novel version of SAO, despite this, the Alicization arc(which was written in the WN as well) in its LN version had a moment of recognizing Mother's Rosario events in its climax. I hope the author is able to "canonify" the movie(it wouldn't be the first time an anime-original story becomes canon, he did a small story in the LN to recognize the event from Extra Edition), because it would be a shame to see a movie that's getting that much praise as being the best SAO story so far simply being consider as filler, as I saw the announcement of the story "Hopeful Chant" for the light novel, I hope it mean it's canon. Why do I care that much about it? Simply because I want the events of the movie to matter, to change or improve the characters a little, as Alicization as written long before the movie existed, there's no much the anime can do to recognize the events from the movie in a great way(small change of Kirito's personality or perspective) in its adaptation, but was the LN is confirmed to get a brand new arc I hope the movie influence the next LN arc at least in some aspects. Even if it's not canon(which I would be sad if it's the case), I hyped for the movie anyways, it's always refreshing to see a new SAO animation(unfortunally, Accel World doesn't have a similar treatment).
The author strongly hinted it was canon at the guest dinner we had with him. There'll likely be some novel version of this too later on. The *spoiler* in the post credit scene also ties it directly to the new arc
Pedro Mourão As far as I know Ordinal Scale is placed between Mother's Rosario and Alicization. Probably some "small" events for the movie will have a deep effect later in the future arc..( Kawahara announced some time ago that will write one more big Arc for Sword Art Online) 😉
