Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale aka The SAO Movie has been released worldwide!!
The Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale Movie was announced a while back in 2016! A1 Studio has been hard as work with this new SAO Movie Project.
Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale has Kirito, Asuna, Sinon and the rest of the SAO cast playing the Augmented Reality (AR) game Ordinal Scale.
Similar to the AR hit Pokemon GO, Ordinal Scale players use the Augma headset device to become emerged into the AR environment

Dr Shigemura - Creator of the Augma device
Kirito And Asuna take the front stage for this Sword Art Online Movie!

Foxen Anime I'm hoping to watch the ordinal scale movie online cuz I missed it out yesterday. if the arc is split into two, I hope it'll be separated a few months apart instead of a year or two

I was referring to splitting it right after the end of volume 14 where the goal changes from fighting Administrator to protecting the underworld during the final load phase.
sao is my favorite anime and will always be , love it so much and the movie was amazing af , love how they got engaged , cannot wait for sao 3!

PLEASE LET THEM ADAPT THIS ARC PROBABLY. If they do this right, then SAO might actually get out of the negative hate hole it's been stuck in for all these years.

I really enjoyed the movie, it definitely brought back that Season 1 Arc 1 vibe for how dangerous it was for the aincrad story.

If they do this arc, it's two 26ers, easy. There's no way 50 episodes of SAO will be of consistent quality crammed into one year. This, at worst, can be split from Spring/Fall 2018 for part 1 and Fall 2019/Fall 2020 for part 2.

I really want to know how they will make Shigemura be part of Alicization, since he is not in the light novels. Hope they won't change the story too much.
As for season 3... I agree.. Somewhere at the middle of 2018 might be out. They will definitely take a break after 24 or 25 eps, and probably in 2020 a season 4 with the final eps from Alicization Arc will be out. If Reki Kawahara writes fast the final Arc of Sword Art Online, season 4 might also contain the conclusion of the story.

I am gonna somewhat spoil the arc a little but not a lot (It's some what a plot point but it's up to you.)

In the light novels when Kirito tests the "Soul Translator" he gets put in a battle with Silver Crow. (Big shock, right?) Anyways, before the battle ends Kirito leaves because of a glitch. Also if you haven't seen it Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight, on the PS4 and Vita has the 2 crossover
i hope they are put back into a death game because they looked like they where recreating aincrad in the post credits

They don't need to be in Aincrad or recreate Aincrad to make the stakes be higher, they just did that with the movie(with the SAO bosses appearing in Ordinal Scale), so I wouldn't expect much Aincrad related things in the Alicization arc. (If you read the other comments you might know that I do read the novel, but I used logic to make the previous sentence)

.In the other hand, it's the most Aincrad-like arc since Aincrad itself, so you might get Aincrad feelings through it.
Just read the books (like Bushyman477 said), but I _will_ say this much: it's *NOT* Aincrad.

the best way is novel 9-14 for season 3 then novels 15-18 with 19 as a extra story like mothers Rosario for a season 4 in my opinion
It will most likely stop at at the end of Eugeo's arc (VS Quinella) and the second half will probably be at the war arc.

Is it possible that they are going to pull off a trick like the stranger things series where they will release all the episodes in one day or are they trying to finish all of the episodes and weekly release an episode (spin off) so they could prioritize the making of season 3? you also said that their are atleast 50 episodes for the elicitation
clues are that like you said they finished the movie only 1 week before the release usually movies are finished 3-4 weeks to check any mistakes errors or wanted to insert Easter eggs for a sequel

Alice, she shares a bond with Kirito and Eugeo(Kirito's first male companion in an arc).
From what I understand, the Alicization arc being the longest arc in the series is quite misleading. From what I heard, it's also the most dragged and worn out arc by far. For example, just the prologue is 100 pages, and there is a single boss fight that drags on for 300. And looks like a lot, and I mean A LOT can be compressed easily by using visual story telling, so keeping everything down to one 25 episode season would be, not only possible, but beneficial.
As someone who's read the novels, this arc would be a disaster cut down to only 25 episodes. One of the biggest and valid complaint of the SAO s1 series how much got cut from the Aincraid Arc. Let's hope they dont repeat that.
It also makes less sense for them to cut it down even further if it means running through the rest of their material. SAO is unbelievable popular and profitable for them. Moreso in Asia too
I don't know. I also read the first novel and, outside of Kirito's inner monologues (which didn't add much anyway), I didn't feel that they cut... well.... ANYTHING! If anything, I heard that they changed a couple of things when they published the original web novel as actually books (namely, Asuna killing off Kuradeel), but other than that I just don't see that content that was allegedly cut off at all. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that was in the first novel was in the anime too. (Unless you count chapter 16.5 as canon, that is...)
Granted, it was just the first novel, but I heard the complains applied to that one just as much as the others. And if the first novel is any indication... well, I just don't see it.
I agree more with Foxen Anime, but it's not impossible to use visual story telling (don't forget the character development). However, I don't think it'll be shorter than 25; more likely more than 30, especially if they included all those prologues, interludes, etc. (please DO).
Yeah, and those Aincrad changes, too, are bummer and makes Kirito looks more OP than he already are (e.g. Kirito and Liz didn't survive by simply falling on the snow, but Kirito actually uses Elucidator to slow them down, and was forced to drink another potion after his failed escape attempt, etc.).
Anyway, did anyone notice it took Liz *around 250 freaking hits* to forge Dark Repulser?! (See "Sound of Water, Sound of Hammer" side story)
