Indominus Rex has two abilities: a static ability that makes you discard to have it enter the battlefield with counters, and an ETB to draw cards. Nimble Obstructionist can only stop the latter.
Felix missed a trigger when Roaming Throne entered the battlefield. Eowyn should have triggered twice that turn, as RT enters at the creature type he chooses.
When max countered indominus' triggered ability indominus' "as enters the Battlefield" should have still happened since its not a trigger, its replacement effect. The ability counter would have stopped the ETB only!
Indominus Rex is really fun to play, kind of overtuned for the cost but that's nothing new for green+ beaters. At least they purposefully put it in colors that don't have creatures with innate double strike, so you don't get everything at once.
I mean, that's a single 1/1 over the vanilla test... If that's the overtuning you're worried about, I'm really interested about the makeup of your average table.
@@qwormuli77 That's the thing though, Indominus Rex is *never* just a 6/6 for 5, it will generally enter with 3+ relevant keywords and draw that many cards.
@@DeltaFiendAnd the keyword copying has been a common(-ish) effect for around a decade or so? This card isn't the first incarnation of the effect, nor is it arguably the strongest, it's just now better fit for a commander. Also, it doesn't net you much card advantage, but mainly cycles creatures into random cards. *Far* from overtuned. It's not even near the strongest at that particular table. It's not even the most aggressively pushed of it's own archetype, of which the other options are still lower power niche stuff. It's nice that it's five MV, though, and not six like they tend to print most of the more niche meme mechanics, though. Thantis and it's friends are still in tears about that cursed number. Not calling it bad design, though. It's pretty much a more interesting Rayami and that's a win in my book.
@@qwormuli77 I'm going to ignore the "which is better" part because its not important here, but I think you may have misunderstood how Indominus' card draw works. You draw for each *counter* it has on it, not the number of cards you discarded. This means you easily turn 1 card into 2 or 3, and if you have effects that make Indominus enter with counters it'll add to it as well. For example, Master Biomancer or Opal Palace. It also doesn't care whether or not those counters are repeats either so Doubling Season also works.

That's why I said "much card advantage"; It can draw you positive for a good grip with an already good grip, but that's just a side benefit, as you don't exactly need extra disco with it in the command zone. But it won't turn an empty hand into a full one, which is the major distinction to actual draw spells. Still not pushed. For my curiosity's sake, which part in particular you feel is pushed on the card's power level? 6/6 beatstick that discos creatures (you can disco ones without keywords for the reanimation package you doubtlessly run with this) and draws some with synergy. Useless on an empty hand and requires setup for any payoff. Fragile for the investment. It won't even gain any p/t benefits, unlike dinoslime or such. My favourite is how it can breathe life to weak meme cards, like Spirit of the Night, but if you have to go for that, you know the card isn't exactly a house. It's still fun to see (though I haven't built a deck for it myself). My intention wasn't to denigrate the card or anyone who plays it, if it came off like that. I just can't see the high power level pushing going on.

Not a replacement effect, but a static ability. You're still correct, though, and it would not be countered!

It can’t gain infect, only certain keywords

rex states what keywords it can gain unfortunately. So infect, toxic, shroud, protection etc to name a few aren't on the list of things it can gain

Indominus Rex only allows certain keywords for ability counters. It would be cool otherwise 😆 they need to print a colorless doublestriker
