I actually really miss DOMS. When I started working out 20 years ago my muscles would get so sore that I couldn't even lift my arms to touch my nose. Even after taking a decade or so off when I restarted my weight training I never got that same level of soreness again. These days it doesn't matter how hard I work or how hard I push myself in the gym, I never get DOMS. :(
Dude same. I’ve only been going regularly since December, but I really miss that feeling of being sore. Don’t get me wrong, the pump feels nice but something about being extremely sore after a hard workout just makes you feel like you’re progressing a lot.
@@doraafelfedezoofisol it’s the same reason people like the feeling of the pump after working out. At least for me and the guy I go with, it makes you feel like you’re actually doing something.
I switched to a total body calisthenics routine this week after mainly doing zone 2 cardio and weight training, and I feel like I got the crap beat out of me lol. A relatively recent podcast with Andrew Huberman and Andy Galpin noted that DOMS may be due to the immune response post-workout which leads to increased fluid and pressure on the sensory receptors surrounding the muscles. Andy notes that if it were truly just muscle tissue damage causing muscle pain/soreness, then we would expect to feel the DOMS soreness immediately rather than 24-48 hours later as with any other tissue damage. I'm paraphrasing, of course. A key takeaway though was that light exercise is helpful for relieving some DOMS soreness because it causes fluid and nutrients to flow more, and this helps with the pressure and the recovery process which both lend toward a reduction in DOMS. It is also why massage tends to alleviate soreness as well - the manual stimulation causes fluid & nutrient exchange. However, stretching a sore muscle was noted to be the exact opposite of helpful because of the stretch reflex of muscle fiber spindles.
This is a super interesting phenomenon, we can have a lot of strength already, but if we perform a new exercise with a different movement pattern, boom! soreness 😅
Day 3 of DOMS here. I was literally crying on day 1 after working on my squats. Can barely walk up and down the stairs. Even sitting up & down of the toilet killing me. I practice Yoga for years, recently trying PoundFit for first time and hit it hard and now I dont wanna do PoundFit again. 😅
I can't outstretch my arms right now after a work out.I feel like a T-rex, or I have my arms curled in like Mr. Burns. Good to know this is normal for beginners.
You over did your tendons in your arms. As you lift more and more weight, your muscles grow. So do your tendons (slower than muscle) you have to slowly go up in weight to give the tendons time to grow as well. This is why people with steroid use can severely damage themselves easily. Their muscles are growing rapidly fast while their tendons are growing at a normal slow rate. That means they're lifting heavier and heavier to continue the muscle stimulation for growth and the tendons can't keep up and tear. You need to start slow, don't go into the gym with an ego. Start slow, every two weeks go up 5-10lb , or do an extra rep. Depending on what you're comfortable with until eventually you won't notice you're 70-100lb+ more than where you started at.
@@kabeerameetganatra3516 it should go away in about a week and a half depending. Rest is important. Your arms will go back to normal. But take that as a warning. You could have easily tore the tendon and your bicep could have curled up inside of your arm requiring surgery. Take it slow, let your body adjust slowly to new weight.
I fully agree, i've been working out 5 times a week for the last 3 years and for example i hit triceps twice a week, but every time i try a new patter (overhead push with rope for instamce from last workout) i got so sore in the long head
It's so frustrating to finally come back to exercising lol I lived the first 17 years of my life without ever being sedentary, but then I stopped for some years. At the time, I was so used to like, everything, that the most amount of time I'd ever be sore for was the day after the exercise, and never extending into the second day. Now when I come back to it I feel it for days on end lol I was always used to wait for it to chill a bit before I went at it again, but I'm realizing that if I am to do that right now, I might as well not even train at all
yup. that's how that feels. honestly you're gonna have to probably go easier with your workouts if you're gonna try and avoid it. just to get back into the swing of things, then actually go all out the way you used to once your body realizes you want to commit.

I've been working out since january and still get muscle soreness. Its been six months, why do I still get destroyed ? 😅
Is it normal for me to not be able to put my arms down?
Hi, I started going to the gym in January, clearly a beginner. But what time frame will you stop (or I stop) bring a beginner? A year, 2? More?
😂😂 I was never here 🤣🤣🤣 I’m sore this shit made me laugh 😂
I'm suffering through DOMS atm. Can barely walk or sit down. 😣
I could do pull-ups easily n pushups really cool..now Iam struggling to do 1 after going gym...why is it so?
I haven't wash my back since 3 days, I hope water is doing its job 😭
I feel like Im sore for 3-4 days everytime I workout. I want to get this repeated bout effect but my recovery always feels so long. What can I do? Im staying consistent and going to the gym 2x a week but I dont feel like this DOMs is getting better at all. Every morning after a workout is always the same hell.
How is it rn? I'm the same.
I can't take my shirt off 😂
I remember I got DOMS for days after doing calf raises as a 15 year old
I didn't experienced any muscle soreness or extreme pain in my body on the first day of gym is it wrong? I mean is it necessary to get soreness after first day of gym everybody was saying after first day your muscles will get sore but it didn't i need help
After my very first leg day in the gym I was sore for *5 days*
Ive got doms real bad right now! Can barely lift my arms above my chest 😂
Question to the gym bros - do i continue to work through the pain, or should i give that muscle set (chest and tris) a rest and work on another muscle group whilst i recover?
I can't even get up
