These days, work-life balance can seem like an impossible feat. Technology makes workers accessible around the clock. Fears of job loss incentivize longer hours.
Work-life balance means something different to every individual, but here health and career experts share tips to help you find the balance that’s right for you.
1. Let go of perfectionism
A lot of overachievers develop perfectionist tendencies at a young age when demands on their time are limited to school, hobbies and maybe an after-school job. It’s easier to maintain that perfectionist habit as a kid, but as you grow up, life gets more complicated.
2. Unplug
From telecommuting to programs that make work easier, technology has helped our lives in many ways. But it has also created expectations of constant accessibility. The work day never seems to end. “There are times when you should just shut your phone off and enjoy the moment,” says Robert Brooks, a professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School and co-author of The Power of Resilience: Achieving Balance, Confidence and Personal Strength in Your Life.
3. Exercise and meditate
Even when we’re busy, we make time for the crucial things in life. We eat. We go to the bathroom. We sleep. And yet one of our most crucial needs - exercise - is often the first thing to go when our calendars fill up. Exercise is an effective stress reducer. It pumps feel-good endorphins through your body. It helps lift your mood and can even serve a one-two punch by also putting you in a meditative state, according to the Mayo Clinic.
4. Limit time-wasting activities and people
First, identify what’s most important in your life. This list will differ for everyone, so make sure it truly reflects your priorities, not someone else’s. Next, draw firm boundaries so you can devote quality time to these high-priority people and activities.
5. Change the structure of your life
Sometimes we fall into a rut and assume our habits are set in stone. Take a birds-eye view of your life and ask yourself: What changes could make life easier?

100% true. 100% accurate. I always keep a reminder with me that says "trade money for time rather than time for money" In essence, silent and listen are spelled with the same letters so replace what you always doing with what you should be doing to maintain a good balance in life

Workaholic types usually need a lot less separation of "work" and "fun", the work is the fun for the most part for these individuals. That is why you never hear the Gary Vaynerchuk's of the world emphasize the importance of holidays etc. Just have to be mindful of not overdoing it and therefore slowing down your own progress. Your personality type really determines your life balance, doesn't seem to be one size fits all.
Really good insight. Times I feel stuck when I have overworked myself without any form of relaxation such as exercise or rest.

Hi Arty! As always a great video! However, stress kills? Doesnt really have too. For most ppl it does until you find out a simple and learnable trick and that is to change your mindset in a situation where you feel stressed. When you are stressed all kinds of fluids are released into your system, what they are designed to do is highten you perception, quicken your reaction and basically put your body and brain in hyperdrive. So next time you are in a stressed situation, see it as you entering hyperdrive and accepting the challenge ahead. When its all said and done you can look back at the situation and say damn! I really killed it! In other words try to see stress as a positive state of mind and body. Its hard at first but it gets easier! And with time you feel that situations that stressed you before has stopped doing so..Anyways awesome video bro! Stay safe!
