Toto's grooves were SICK man! .. Begged for creative solo's when performed live, and the band delivered every time that I saw them. Each member are true craftsmen in every sense of the word. RIP Jeff and Mike ..
When I was on high school, I heard this song almost everyday because there was this radio station that would play this nice smooth 80's balads... It was so nice to hear that song early in the morning on the way... this music hits in a special place to me... It takes me back to great memories in that time 😀✌👊 And this song is actually pretty good too... Maybe I'll check out more of them... 😀
Maybe start with Kingdom of Desire Andre, if you like the heavier stuff. Toto are truly a rock band at heart, more Hold the Line than Rosanna or Africa imo.
Glad you featured this song and this group. They definitely bring back wonderful memories and are a great band with amazing songs. Still waiting for Adam Lambert who wants to leave forever live. I want to hear you break down his vocals. Do you think years later he will be remembered as we remember these wonderful musicians?
One of my most favorite bands. In my teen years, every time I experienced something great in my life, a Toto song seemed to be playing. Wonderful memories.
Toto, is one of those bands technically that have all their sounds together, reminds me of the technical sound of Kansas mixed with boston with the harmonies. Good stuff man!
Thank You so much for your reply Ken, really wish you where around in my 20s when I had a voice. Keep on trucking. You really care about what you do AND IT SHOWS.THANKS AGAIN.
Amazing band, love them. Saw the band in 1993, Den Bosch, Netherlands. It was pure magic. The concert should have ended around 11, but they kept playing until midnight. One of best concerts I've ever attended. 😍🤘
If may just say to the younger folks, Bobby appears to have some age related issues if you watch his recent performances or interviews. Check out his singing in his heyday. He was a beast of a singer with some serious pipes.
Really a beautiful song I love the keyboard such a powerful instrument it was so prominent in the 80's with Prism, Loverboy, Deep Purple,Styx and so many other great bands Africa is such an awesome song to unreal vocals :-)
Ken, I love to see you watching and enjoying these great bands, in your face we can see your love for music. Actually Toto and Survivor did a small tour together and they came to Puerto Rico and I was fortunate enough to see them. Frederiksen was singing at that time and he was amazing, all the great Toto songs. Unfortunately he passed away not long after from cancer, he had a few words about appreciating singing live for the fans for as long as his body would hold. Jamison died too but from drugs, very very sad. But I was blessed to have the chance to see them and I hold that memory very dear in my heart. Please Ken, keep doing reactions of great bands and singers and can I humbly ask you again if you would consider doing one of Janis Joplin, she is my angel. Thanks.
Bands who say that about them dont know what there talking about. Maybe it's out of jealousy of how talented this group is. One of my all time favorite groups. Thanks! ken, great stuff like always.
Toto is my all time favorite band, thanks Ken for this video. I hope to see more Toto videos in the future. Btw Toto is doing a US tour starting in Los Angeles, Ca September 20th. Joseph Williams is the lead singer now (2010-present)
Superstars..Steve on the guitar and vocals, David on piano, Bobby's great vocals, Jeff master drummer, Steve Porcaro another genius..he wrote michael Jackson's human nature, which they help arrange with q Jones, David Hungate pretty good bassist..then Mike Porcaro...then came Joseph and others, plus the other side musicians that helped out like Lenny Castro on percussions... : )
Superb critique by you Ken, the man who absolutely understands music and the techniques required to be a total professional in the field of singing and performance, really enjoyed this, thanks Ken.
This is my all time favourite Toto song! I heard this all through my childhood, thanks mum and dad 😂 awesome guitar solo 😍 love this reaction, thanks Ken!
I always play Rosanna bass line in Rocksmith. Love it. In Brazil we have a band that is a kind of Toto, mixed with Chicago and América, called Roupa Nova. Amazing band.
Super cool that the older bands are covered by Ken, really miss the feeling and energy from 70s & 80s rock bands.Great time to be young and live life and experiences thru those bands and their songs.
So glad that you reacted to this killer tune! Bobby Kimball in his prime ranks right up there with the likes of Brad Delp and Lou Gramm in my opinion. This classic rock song definitely has a lot of soul and jazz added to it. Steve Lukather is so underrated as a guitarist and even as a vocalist. He and Toto played such a huge part on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album. They don’t get enough credit. Lately, I’ve been really getting into Toto. Some of their more obscure stuff. They are such a tight sounding band. They have had a number of lead singers over the years. I think Joseph Williams is another great Toto singer. Songs like “Pamela” and “Stop Loving You” are very solid tunes.
Can’t believe anyone would say they are a wussy band 😳 extremely talented , awesome songs .. more influential in my opinion .. people are crazy lol Toto rocks !! Great video !😁
This song is awesome. Everything sounds so smart. Pay attention to that subtle little note he adds at the of word "time". I'm loving to see these bands I never heard of before here.
yeah yeah the good old 70ies my time when I was young. ;) And Toto has been my absolute favorite band through all theses decades. And yes as for me Luke has always been the best guitarist on this planet ever. He still is great but his best time for me were definitely the late 80ies and 90ies. If I can make a wish I would love to see him on a record together with Steve Perry. Well Hold the line is still a typical classical rock song. But I love Isolation, Fahrenheit and the 7th one and the song "Animal" (from the Past to Present 77-90 album) with its absolut groovy rhythm (Steve Porcaros still on drums) and his damn incredible guitar solo the most and of course ToTo's live performances in the beginning of the 90ies along with these amazing black back vocal singer, really stunning. Absolute professionals who enriched our lives with incredible compositions and virtuosity. Especially Lukes wide bendings and the way he always adds his vibratos at the end of his longer notes. This is what I really love on guitar as well as in singing. Thanks for sharing. Great memories for me!
Toto deserves the accolades given here and so much more. They are incredible and it has always left me stunned that they didn't achieve a much bigger soaring popularity. They are so talented, beyond what many other bands have done. They are on the top of my list of favorite bands of all time.
The lyrics of this song and of every Toto song is so great, it touches your soul! I remember as a kid always singing Africa it's still my favorite song. And Hold the Line I love to play it on the piano, it's so relaxing. Great video!
Aspiring singers, seriously listen to this man when he warns about what to avoid in terms of vocal coaches. Believe me, i’ve been to useless coaches all over and he is exactly right. Tamplin is one of, if not the very best in the business. Straight up.
Loved it Ken, Toto will always rule! Part of my younger years, I'll be 55 this month, those lyrics and music will stay with me til my last breath! Really glad I ran into your channel, love everything about it!
Thank you thank you thank you!! Ken, this band is amazing and I saw them live years ago. 💕💕 The voice is impeccable! This is probably my favorite song by them because I fell in love with the piano immediately, then the fabulous vocals followed, and then I fell in love all over again and again with the guitar. Africa live is absolutely incredible. WOW!! I like their versatility. 🇺🇸
TOTO a wussy band? Fella's I think NOT! Steve Lukather is my all time favorite guitarist. He is definitely one cool cat. Just like Ken said, "they freaking rock the house".

Lukather and Jeff did literally thousands of tracks for other bands/artists from around 1973 through the early 90s. Paich and Steve P. Did plenty as well. Everything from Al Jarreau to Lionel Ritchie, MJ, Don Henly, Boz Scaggs, CSNY, Miles Davis, Madonna, George Benson.. the list goes on and on. For nearly a decade almost every #1 song or top 10 hit had Jeff and or other members of Toto on them. Dig into that catalog guys..read liner notes.. they were the last of 'the wrecking crew' type musicians to ever exist. ❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁
Back in the late 70's I heard them on the radio. In 1980 I realized I love there sound. I remember listening to Tamplim and friends back in the early 90's and thinking...wow! Now we get to see you doing these!!! Would love to shake your hand some day!!
And it took me Luke's book to really understand their impact on almost every (other) record made in the 70's and 80's in LA. Steve, Jeff, David or Mike appear on quite many song's and record's credits (though they weren't always credited even).
my favorite band of all time with Queen. Toto are phenomenal. One of the best studio musicians that we can find too. That's why they were In almost every records of Michael Jackson until "History" album in 1995. But Especially in "Thriller" when there is Porcaro, Greg Philinganes, Lukather... They are recording for so many artists Their harmonies are blowing my mind everytime
