ABDULLAH IBRAHIM Jazz Piano Festival, Kalisz, Poland December 9, 1984 Abdullah Ibrahim (piano) Carlos Ward (alto sax, flute) Water from an Ancient Well The Wedding
This is deeply felt and life-affirming music. What jazz and improvised music is all about. Reminds me of my first encounters with Abdullah Ibrahim music in 1986 on Voice of America. Wow, what a powerful performance from these two giants.
Fantastic. Thanks for posting this. There is such a remarkable spiritual component to Ibrahim's music. The day Nelson Mandela (Feb. 1990) was released from prison Ibrahim was mid-way through a solo engagement here in Seattle at Jazz Alley. The music that night was simply amazing. I never, ever tire of his playing. In fact it's restorative.
tx man. forgot to comment before because i was too excited. i collect duets. i did not know about this. and because of this CLIP, i looked for the album "Live at Sweet Basil Vol 1". (there is NO vol 2). maybe they thought to have the material on 2 LP's but there is only ONE. Live, October 3, 1983. the label is EKAPA, Blackhawk Records in San Francisco. (BKH 50204) looking at the dates, looks like they kinda were promoting the record. historical CLIP. tx again

Abdullah & Carlos performing 'The wedding'. Even tough strong men might cry a bit. The beauty of the tune and the beauty of the performance...
