Golfs are very well engineered cars(Octavia is based on the Golf), and there are thousands of them with well over 200k miles still running strong. So yeah, Octavia is amazing value for money, is super practical, has plenty of tech and it should be reliable.

Skoda really upped their game. I've been driving around in the 2009-2013 estate. Would love to upgrade to this one. Looks a bit like the generic version of the Volvo V60.

They've come too far to go so far backwards. Those Dacias are really horrible unrefined tractors. For my money, Skoda are better than Renault too, but that's a probably more about personal preference than objective quality difference.
I have been driving a 2006 Skoda Superb 1.9 TDT since 2009. and it is still a magnificent machine. Little bit hard on the rear seats, and the CD player is in the boot. Love it madly from Day One to today. As I have just passed 80 years old I would need a bit of persuading to change up - but this Octavia could tempt me!
Just ordered my SE; drove the one at the showroom and I was hooked. Beautiful ride. My dealer looked at the Carwow offers and managed to almost match the lowest but as he couldn't quite he threw in the optional extra spare wheel.
Have always loved the Octavia. My dad owned an ex-police chip tuned Mk1 vRS and a couple Mk2 1.9TDIs, Passat-like practicality and presence with a sub-golf price

No A/C, hard plastics everywhere, fixed steering wheel position, tape/radio player, no electrically operated anything, no airbags, black bumpers, 13" steel wheels and of course the Skoda jokes from neighbours. They've come a long long way in 23 years, I'd love to see Mat do a comparison between a Felicia or even a mark one Octavia and the new one.
All, or indeed most cars from that era had very little equipment levels! I had a felicia for 7 years without one single problem, it was a good, reliable car.
I'm not a Skoda fan but this car looks really smart and definitely not boring looking. A huge improvement over the last Octavia and I would definitely take one over a mundane Golf mk8

Looks very good outside. I am not a fan of the lack of buttons for climate controls, seat heating buttons and radio volume knob! It is very distracting at higher speeds. Also the shifter is very strange.
