2:00 Okay, the game being a JFK assassination simulator is absolutely in bad taste and ban worthy…but that one clip Caddy used actually makes it seem like fun. Luckily the fun comes from aspects not tied to the JFK bit. “I wanna make a clone of Hitman Sniper. But like…the Big Rigs version of Hitman Sniper.”
Fun fact, the game is licensed by somebody who is trying to prove that the way the FBI said the assassination went down was true, you would get a reward if you were able to recreate the assassination with 100% accuracy.... Nobody has gotten that reward yet
Think that's bad? Wait until you find out about Super Columbine RPG. You play as one of the two actual killers and recreate the massacre, complete with some of the real victims. You have no clue how much I wish that was a joke.
Now I'm just reminded of the time I learned about the censorship of a scene in Xenosaga that actually made it more disturbing. There's a scene where the antagonist, in the original version of the game, cuts his own head off in front of the protag to show her he's immortal and freak her out. When they made it accessible to other countries (or at least in the states,) instead of removing the scene, they changed it to him *twisting his head around until it tore off,* which is objectively worse in my opinion. But I guess as long as there's no blood, it doesn't actually matter if the scene is disturbing. Sometimes the people who censor games are weird.
How does the head of a living being tear off without blood spraying everywhere especially considdering the obligatory rubberbanding of ragdoll mechanics? Lol
iirc in the sequel they censored a flashback with the same character as a child shooting himself in the head with a gun (and blood splatter on the wall) to vaporizing his head with a magic attack (and no blood)
Considering the quality of modern graphics nowadays, it's honestly quaint knowing people were outraged at the violence of games like the old Mortal Kombats and Carmageddon. Imagine if the quality of the Mortal Kombat 11 Fatalities was possible in the 90s. Peoples' heads would probably explode.
Reminds me of how in my first year of college I talked about how bans on games and censorship worked by making direct comparisons from MK1 and MKX at the time with the Sub Zero Fatality
Heck, even mainstream games like AC valhalla have some real gory execution scenes now. I'm kinda desensitised at this point and would like to play a game which is actually bad enough to bother me
Fun Fact: in Germany, they censored half life by replacing the marine models with robots, and also made it so that when scientists and guards die, they instead just sit on floor and shake their heads, but for some unknown reason, they didn’t censor the corpses already there, and also still included the scientist being taken over by a headcrab in Unforeseen Consequences
I bought a boxed copy of half-life anthology back in the day and it came with the german versions for whatever reason. I had a fun time trying to mod the game and get the gore and original models back. I went back recently to play it and steam seems to have patched it to match my region, but I'll never forget all the nuts and bolts flying everywhere and the garbled robot voices that all the hostile humans had.
That was a surprisingly common practice in Europe back in the day, all thanks to Germany's strict laws on violent content in video games. It's why the Contra games were renamed to Probotector and changed all of the sprites from humans to robots when they came out in PAL regions.
fun fact about postal 2 in australia, its only the physical version thats banned. The version on steam is completely fine and easliy accessible unlike something like hotline miami 2 where you need to get a code from another country. If you own the physical version, it's considered contraband and you can get arrested. edit: i got removed off of steam. im so sorry
lol I was thinking this as well, I didn't even know it was technically banned here until like 5 or so years later, especially since I was _definitely_ a minor at the time when I played it with a steam copy
I remember the developers at Overkill had to do something similar so Aussie players could get the Hotline Miami content in Payday 2, since Hotline Miami 2 was banned in Australia.

Postal 2 has become such a legendary game. I can't even playthrough the whole game without the game crashing at least 6 times, but I still unironically love the game.
it's the definition of a guilty pleasure. it's buggy, tasteless, and clunky. and it shouldn't be nearly as fun as it was. and, it's even BETTER than at launch. i dont know if caddy was playing the original retail version or the steam version. the steam version incorporated the aw7 mod... which enhances the gore and makes limbs fly off at a single stroke of the katana.

My favorite Australia ban is when they almost banned Disco Elysium Final Cut (the voiced version, the original was released in Australia, oddly) for the drug use in the game. They changed their minds when they noticed that taking drugs in DE has negative effects on your statistics. "Oh okay Drugs aren't magic and good, that's fine then".
Dayz was also banned because a mod allowed the character to smoke weed and get a health benefit from it. The ruling is that games can't have drug use that shows a positive benefit.
I had no idea the Punisher was censored when I originally played it. (I'm in the USA funnily enough) I thought the black and white filter was a neat aesthetic to give it a "comic book" feel or something, had no idea that was supposed to be their attempt at censorship.
Of all these games on the list, Manhunt was the only game I ever censored my nephew from playing. I knew how gory it was, and my nephew being only four, made me feel rather uncomfortable to play it in front of him. Literally the only game I ensured stayed as a Mature only game. As a side note, the game Getting Up, is a hidden gem of a game and it’s really unfortunate it didn’t get more promotion than it did. I picked this game up on a whim, and was blown away at the detail they chose to put into it. The story was great, the tagging was dynamic and engaging, the platforming gave the game stealth game quality to it; there were so many elements to the game that blended well. Easily in the Top ten favorite Ps2 games, and number one favorite sleeper hit.
As a 12 year old i played the uncensored version of The Punisher pretty extensively. The best parts were the various ways to kill the bad guy. Shoving a grenade in a mobsters mouth and watch him run to his buddies for help just for it to explode and kill all of them was the best.

As much as I’m against censorship, I gotta admit, those filters in The Punisher and Manhunt 2 are so artistically on point, they’re so fitting in the dark, distorted worlds they take place in, especially for Manhunt 2. I think I like them better than the uncensored versions.
I mean, in a way, it makes the action feel even more dramatic and disturbed with the screen going apeshit as it happens. I think their "censoring" backfired there.
As caddy and other said, sometimes our mind can think of the gaps as more disturbing then what it actually showed because that how our mess up minds work at times. Sometimes censorship can make thing look more explicit. Their any reason what a lot of horror flims use the “nothing is scarier” trope.

As a Australian i can safely say politics in Australia is one giant meme, say what you want about American politics but they still don't come near the hilarious incompetency and pointless bickering of ours.
It is also worth noting that in Manhunt 2, that while you do get more style points for the more sadistic kills, you are also rewarded with the bad ending if you lean too much into it.
Isn't endings in this game depends on which difficulty level you have chosen?
@@pleasesendhelp1954 Nope. From what I heard, yeah. You get different ending depending of your action.

Fun fact, the game is licensed by somebody who is trying to prove that the way the FBI said the assassination went down was true, you would get a reward if you were able to recreate the assassination with 100% accuracy.... Nobody has gotten that reward yet
JFK reloaded is actually good as hell, highly recommend it

But.... isnt Canada officially still part of the Empire?
As a Canadian I agree
Lol
@@Arexack999 I couldn’t begin to tell you lmao
Often the People who censor games are weird.
iirc in the sequel they censored a flashback with the same character as a child shooting himself in the head with a gun (and blood splatter on the wall) to vaporizing his head with a magic attack (and no blood)
You sure you aren’t talking about Mass Effect Andromeda?
Considering the quality of modern graphics nowadays, it's honestly quaint knowing people were outraged at the violence of games like the old Mortal Kombats and Carmageddon. Imagine if the quality of the Mortal Kombat 11 Fatalities was possible in the 90s. Peoples' heads would probably explode.
Reminds me of how in my first year of college I talked about how bans on games and censorship worked by making direct comparisons from MK1 and MKX at the time with the Sub Zero Fatality
"Peoples heads would probably explode"
and not just from the Fatalities.
Show 90s Fox News doom eternal and they’ll cum in their pants from propaganda material
Heck, even mainstream games like AC valhalla have some real gory execution scenes now. I'm kinda desensitised at this point and would like to play a game which is actually bad enough to bother me
They do now anyway.
Oh, you meant real people.
The german censor robot model was also used as a playermodel in deathmatch
@@farawaygaming_ I remember playing the deathmatch back when I was younger, and was wondering when will these robots show up in the actual story lol.
"Probotector" just makes it sound like a game about noses.
fun fact about postal 2 in australia, its only the physical version thats banned.
