Why are her parents describing her by her looks when she was a child? The only personality description is energetic and happy. Every description includes "beautiful hair, beautiful lips, pale skin" ... maybe that is where the problem starts (I am not trying to blame the parents. The only reason I say this is because a lot of my body confidence issues started when I grew up believing looks are more important than personality traits such as kindness, honesty, tolerance, etc). I also see it in the comments of this video "you are so pretty" blah blah blah. You know what? You are beautiful because you are strong and persevering. Not because of your looks. When you give a child positive reinforcement about looks then that is what will be important to the child. That is why eating disorders start so young. Teach your children kindness and honesty over looks.
But she shouldn't need to know that she is pretty. Instead, she should know she is strong, kind, smart, or any other personality trait that will actually give her confidence and self worth. What benefit does being pretty have? Anyone can be pretty.

As a Survivor of many horrible things that happened to me as a child, I used those exact words she used with her horse, I shared with my now passed away dog, my forever best friend when I was a young child. I cried watching this. I also suffered from anorexia. When I was 18 I was at my lowest point with a bmi of only 9. My heartbeat was very slow and irregularly and I could have died any moment. I was dying. My mom tried so hard to get me to stay in hospital but since I was 18 already I could decide whether I wanted to stay or not, I never did. I remember being too weak to put clothes so I relied on my mom getting me dressed. She also helped me to shower and even sit up, get out of bed or up and down the stairs. Every night she lie awake in fear I wouldn't wake up in the morning. I can still see her face peeking in several times during the night to make sure I was still breathing. I hate myself for doing this to my mom. I was like sand slowly slipping out of her hands when she was trying so hard to hold on. I can never undo what I did to her, I can never make it okay again and knowing this is incredibly painful.
Your mother loves you … do NOT allow ED to push her away . My daughter has told me the exact same thing , I will never give into ED I won’t let him keep me away from her .
If you really had anorexia then you know that numbers are very triggering. Why would deliberately trigger someone with a low BMI number?? Sounds like you're just bragging about how severe your ED was. 🙄
I wish it wasn't true. I am still very sick even at a 'normal' weight now and I would do literally anything to be free from this horrible disorder. You can only put so many trigger warnings on your posts, people will always be triggered or offended, just like you are. I never at any point in my post said that it was great being this skinny. BMI 9 didn't feel great at all, it felt like dying and I was after all. It's NOT a competition. I never intended to brag about anything because there's literally NOTHING to brag about an eating disorder. When I wrote this post I was thinking about my mom and how the disease destroyed both our lives.

I don’t know what it’s like having an eating disorder, I am 14 and my my 14 year old cousin who lives down the road from me has anorexia her sister tells me how she’s doing every now and again. I just wanna say to you though that even though you did that to your mum it’s ok you didn’t mean too and it’s over now you don’t have to feel bad cause that is very bad for both of your mental health. I had a hamster buddy once. He was appeared tiny and insignificant and the only reason why my parents got him was cos he was the cheapest breed in the pet shop, around 10 dollars. But what they didn't know was that he gave me love and let me love him. He was the only one who didn't judge me and loved me unconditionally. I remember how he used to snuggle into my palms like he trusted me to take care of him, to be with him all the time. During the day, I took him everywhere with me, letting him sleep in a little hamster carrier on my desk while I studied for my first big exam. He was probably the only reason why I remained sane at that time, the only reason why I could muster the courage to take on the challenges and stresses of life and smile through them. He left me at age 4 years and 3 months. Our friendship was a short one but I'll never forget him and even until now, I gaze at the baby hamsters in pet shops, seeing my little friend in their eyes, remembering the love that we shared.
“The only thing I had control over was the food I ate”. So, what was happening to this young child that she felt overwhelming controlled that only sharing secrets to a horse helped her heal? There’s a lot more to this story than is being said. Bless her and keep her safe.

I'm glad she's still here with us in this wolrd. No one deserves to go through this hell. No one. I don't have anorexia, but I can't gain weight. I can only loose it. And i'm scared. I eat, and eat but all I do is just loose weight. My parents nor siblings understand it. They just think i'm skinny and I get picked on for it. Rightnow i'm around 60-70 pounds and i'm nearly 14. When I was in middle school, I was friends with a girl who had trouble keeping on weight and they found out she had an over active thyroid. I'm not saying you have this for sure or anything- it's just a thought.
I have never heard of this disease but now I'm impressed. Now I'm 12 years old I live in Brasil. Weight problems have always made me crazy!! My mom always tells me not to eat this and that. So I just try to lose weight and exercise a lot. But after this video on never going to be bossed with lossing as much weight as possible it dengerous. One thing that helps me is friend support it just makes me feel free and better. Like I could do anything I wanted. Thank you for the amazing inspiration.
This really hit home for me, as I have been around horses ever since I was diagnosed with depression. I know it's not the same, but in some ways it's just as dangerous. I recently got a horse who I'm bonding with more and more. Even since I got him I've felt happier and more relaxed. I am bullied at school but now I have something to look forwards to; seeing Martha at the end of the day. I love her so much.

When I was about 9 my best friend moved to Colorado I was left alone so I turned to my pet dog and we became incredibly close and then when i was 10 he passed away from cancer that was one of the hardest things intact just thinking about it all these years later I cry

I know this isn’t about anorexia but Girls and horses ♥️I loved horses since as far back as I can remember. My mom said I saw my first horse when I was 2, and was obsessed immediately. So I’ve owned horses for over 50 years now. The best part for me is that my daughter was born with the same ‘’horse gene’’. She got her first pony at 4 years old. At 6 she was galloping trails, and at 12 began to show statewide. It’s a wonderful experience to share this full time hobby with one’s daughter. So fantastic to see this girl bond with the horse that ultimately saved her life.
I feel you so much. Horses literally saved my life a hundred times and they still do. My horses show me every day that my story is not over yet, that I am here- for a reason. And even though at a lot of days I just want to give up, I didn't do it yet. Because of my horses. They are filling my lungs with air when I run out of breath. They are like the blood running through my veins. Your story is incredible and so inspiring and it makes me hope that things will be better one day. Thank you so much for sharing your story. The last part when she was talking to blue made me cry, I love horses and I had one. She was taken by the person how we had got her from because my mom didn’t pay in time. The night I had to say goodbye was the worst day of my life. 😔 her name was Casey and she was my soulmate. She was my best friend. And she was the only thing that made me happy. And now that she is gone I have nothing to look up to, nothing to keep me going. I used to always put little notes in a jar with a horse on it like “I will never give up on waiting for you” and that I know is never gunna come true because she was already an old horse, and she might even be dead, but I don’t know because I haven’t seen her sense that night. And the only thing I have from her is a bracelet with her name on it. I miss her so much. She was my first and only horse. 😢😢😢😔😔😭
Thank you for sharing, and good luck, dear child. When are people going to understand that anorexia is a medical illness, not a choice? It's not new, and it's not caused by social media. For me, it began over 40 years ago. I was riding at the elite level, and one of my trainers told all us girls that "the only exercise which will improve your riding is to push away from the dinner table." I wasn't even fat... but that's how it began. The illness is a nightmare, and once you have it, relapse remains a possibility (for most of us). It came back to me after a series of tragedies... my fiancé died, my back got worse and left me disabled, my elderly mare had to be put down... a long list of events beyond my control in a short period of time. I'm aware of what's happening to me; I'm fighting it; I do not want to be this way; it has zero to do with what I "look like"; nobody nobody nobody would choose to be this way.
I live in phoenix too. And I spent christmas 2011 in a psych ward. I know how you feel doll. I'm battling anorexia as well. It's a hard battle. But with support it's possible.
It's not retardation. It's a disorder that takes more people's lives than any psychiatric illness. Yes, to people who have never suffered from one, it may seem stupid. But to us fighting for our lives and dealing with it firsthand, it's an everyday struggle. Have fun being ignorant while we actually strive to become better people and live better lives. I cried watching this. I also suffered from anorexia. When I was 18 I was at my lowest point with a bmi of only 9. My heartbeat was very slow and irregularly and I could have died any moment. I was dying. My mom tried so hard to get me to stay in hospital but since I was 18 already I could decide whether I wanted to stay or not, I never did. I remember being too weak to put clothes so I relied on my mom getting me dressed. She also helped me to shower and even sit up, get out of bed or up and down the stairs. Every night she lie awake in fear I wouldn't wake up in the morning. I can still see her face peeking in several times during the night to make sure I was still breathing. I hate myself for doing this to my mom. I was like sand slowly slipping out of her hands when she was trying so hard to hold on. I can never undo what I did to her, I can never make it okay again and knowing this is incredibly painful.

If you really had anorexia then you know that numbers are very triggering. Why would deliberately trigger someone with a low BMI number?? Sounds like you're just bragging about how severe your ED was. 🙄
I wish it wasn't true. I am still very sick even at a 'normal' weight now and I would do literally anything to be free from this horrible disorder.
You can only put so many trigger warnings on your posts, people will always be triggered or offended, just like you are.
I never at any point in my post said that it was great being this skinny. BMI 9 didn't feel great at all, it felt like dying and I was after all.

I never intended to brag about anything because there's literally NOTHING to brag about an eating disorder. When I wrote this post I was thinking about my mom and how the disease destroyed both our lives.
This comment almost has me in tears. I don’t know what it’s like having an eating disorder, I am 14 and my my 14 year old cousin who lives down the road from me has anorexia her sister tells me how she’s doing every now and again. I just wanna say to you though that even though you did that to your mum it’s ok you didn’t mean too and it’s over now you don’t have to feel bad cause that is very bad for both of your mental health. All you can do now is spend lots of time with your mum and tell her how sorry you are and forget about it cause she loves you and you love her. ❤❤

@@bangtanmeow5613 It isn't that we choose to believe it, it's that our brain makes us believe it. We usually know you don't mean bad, but our eating disorders turn it into something completely different. We didn't choose to think that way or turn your comment into something else.
I had a hamster buddy once. He was appeared tiny and insignificant and the only reason why my parents got him was cos he was the cheapest breed in the pet shop, around 10 dollars. But what they didn't know was that he gave me love and let me love him. He was the only one who didn't judge me and loved me unconditionally. I remember how he used to snuggle into my palms like he trusted me to take care of him, to be with him all the time. During the day, I took him everywhere with me, letting him sleep in a little hamster carrier on my desk while I studied for my first big exam. He was probably the only reason why I remained sane at that time, the only reason why I could muster the courage to take on the challenges and stresses of life and smile through them. He left me at age 4 years and 3 months. Our friendship was a short one but I'll never forget him and even until now, I gaze at the baby hamsters in pet shops, seeing my little friend in their eyes, remembering the love that we shared.

When I was in middle school, I was friends with a girl who had trouble keeping on weight and they found out she had an over active thyroid. I'm not saying you have this for sure or anything- it's just a thought.
This may not be helpful but me too, I eat lots but dont gain weight, if it healthy though, it hopefully wont cause any harm

I have never heard of this disease but now I'm impressed. Now I'm 12 years old I live in Brasil. Weight problems have always made me crazy!! My mom always tells me not to eat this and that. So I just try to lose weight and exercise a lot. But after this video on never going to be bossed with lossing as much weight as possible it dengerous. One thing that helps me is friend support it just makes me feel free and better. Like I could do anything I wanted. Thank you for the amazing inspiration.

This really hit home for me, as I have been around horses ever since I was diagnosed with depression. I know it's not the same, but in some ways it's just as dangerous.
I recently got a horse who I'm bonding with more and more. Even since I got him I've felt happier and more relaxed. I am bullied at school but now I have something to look forwards to; seeing Martha at the end of the day. I love her so much.

When I was about 9 my best friend moved to Colorado I was left alone so I turned to my pet dog and we became incredibly close and then when i was 10 he passed away from cancer that was one of the hardest things intact just thinking about it all these years later I cry

Girls and horses ♥️I loved horses since as far back as I can remember. My mom said I saw my first horse when I was 2, and was obsessed immediately. So I’ve owned horses for over 50 years now. The best part for me is that my daughter was born with the same ‘’horse gene’’. She got her first pony at 4 years old. At 6 she was galloping trails, and at 12 began to show statewide. It’s a wonderful experience to share this full time hobby with one’s daughter.
So fantastic to see this girl bond with the horse that ultimately saved her life.

I feel you so much. Horses literally saved my life a hundred times and they still do. My horses show me every day that my story is not over yet, that I am here- for a reason. And even though at a lot of days I just want to give up, I didn't do it yet. Because of my horses. They are filling my lungs with air when I run out of breath. They are like the blood running through my veins.

The last part when she was talking to blue made me cry, I love horses and I had one. She was taken by the person how we had got her from because my mom didn’t pay in time. The night I had to say goodbye was the worst day of my life. 😔 her name was Casey and she was my soulmate. She was my best friend. And she was the only thing that made me happy. And now that she is gone I have nothing to look up to, nothing to keep me going. I used to always put little notes in a jar with a horse on it like “I will never give up on waiting for you” and that I know is never gunna come true because she was already an old horse, and she might even be dead, but I don’t know because I haven’t seen her sense that night. And the only thing I have from her is a bracelet with her name on it. I miss her so much. She was my first and only horse. 😢😢😢😔😔😭

Thank you for sharing, and good luck, dear child. When are people going to understand that anorexia is a medical illness, not a choice? It's not new, and it's not caused by social media. For me, it began over 40 years ago. I was riding at the elite level, and one of my trainers told all us girls that "the only exercise which will improve your riding is to push away from the dinner table." I wasn't even fat... but that's how it began. The illness is a nightmare, and once you have it, relapse remains a possibility (for most of us). It came back to me after a series of tragedies... my fiancé died, my back got worse and left me disabled, my elderly mare had to be put down... a long list of events beyond my control in a short period of time. I'm aware of what's happening to me; I'm fighting it; I do not want to be this way; it has zero to do with what I "look like"; nobody nobody nobody would choose to be this way.

I live in phoenix too. And I spent christmas 2011 in a psych ward. I know how you feel doll. I'm battling anorexia as well. It's a hard battle. But with support it's possible.
It's not retardation. It's a disorder that takes more people's lives than any psychiatric illness. Yes, to people who have never suffered from one, it may seem stupid. But to us fighting for our lives and dealing with it firsthand, it's an everyday struggle. Have fun being ignorant while we actually strive to become better people and live better lives.
