Page wrote the lyrics of Zep 1, but Robert began writing lyrics on Zep 2, and if you look at their entire catalog, Plant wrote the large majority of their lyrics.
@@zosometalgod > He sure was , at 24 being a session player for 5 years Then earned the Yardbirds guitarist , from there he would create his master band
Jimmy’s studio philosophy was “distance makes depth”. He would mike the drums and amps with several mikes in line. He might place one a foot away from the amp, the second two or three feet away, the third, a few more feet, etc. Distance miking, he discovered, produced a deeper sound by capturing the difference in time it took to travel from the first to the second, third or fourth mike. You’ll soon hear (on Whole Lotta Love) his groundbreaking use of backwards echo, panning, oscillators and the theremin..
Plant was 19-20 when they came out with this. It was a pure, one studio shot, cut in 36 hours of studio time. Led Zep II was recorded in several different studios while they were touring, mostly in the States, catching fire in a bottle...
You've got to go back and watch some live versions. This one from Danmark studios is fantastic, and the live versions are always different than the studio version as they constantly improvise. Best live band ever!
Imagine being a young teen having some money you been saving, you're at a record store. See this album with a interesting front cover, buying it not sure what it's all about. You get home run to your room drop the needle. 🤯 They help changed the course of rock n roll. 💯
In the year 2121 Led Zeppelin will continue to be the greatest band to ever grace the stage. There are no bad Zep songs they are all timeless masterpieces. If you are a true Zep Newbie. Welcome to the fam. To take in this journey and to fully understand the greatness of this band. You need to start at the very beginning, with the album that forever changed how Rock music was Composed, Performed, Produced and Marketed. Jimmy Page, Guitarest and producer, Produced all their albums to be played in full. On FM radio that was new in 1968. So that's how a newbie should hear them. Keeping in mind Jimmys studio productions were unlike anything any band has ever has ever did before. So by starting at the beginning you will hear and experience the total growth and the huge diversity of each song. It is like from the first song, Good Times Bad Times, you think wow this is really good, then you can't wait to hear the next song to follow, Babe im Gonna Leave You. It is totally different and your like ya this is even better than the first. And you have your first favorite led Zeppelin song. By the time side 1 is over with Dazed and Confused. You think ok this is my new fav. Because side 2 cant be as good as side 1? Right? But it is. You are now thinking every song on this album is so good every song becomes your favorite for different reasons. Then you just can't wait to hear what the 2nd album would be like. Because it can't get any better than the first. But trust me it does, with each song it just gets better and better. And from each album you will hear something new and different. You still haven't herd a bad song. And each song still blows you away. By Led Zeppelin III you are totally hooked and become a fan. When you finish your journey, You will understand exactly the reason why Led Zeppelin is considered to be the greatest band of all time. There music has inspired every band that followed. There are many great bands. But to be the first band to infuse different aspects into their music. Jimmy Page made the first distortion box.wawa pedal, used a violin bow. Had Gibson make a custom double neck guitar. Then experimented using 16 track recordings (8 track was the norm) vocal ghosting, reverse echos, channel phasing.mic placement and acoustical experimentation for recording. All of this on the first album, and all of this that has never been done before. By any band , on any album. just another reason why they are the greatest of all time. and Jimmy Page is a genius.
It’s all about the transitions on this song. You know it’s coming back to the original groove, you just don’t know when. They fool you a few times. You’re like, oh ok here it comes back. Nope. Then finally it does.
This was a hodge-podge combination of blues songs such as How Many More Years by Howlin' Wolf and The Hunter by Albert King with Booker T and the MGs. Jimmy plays a bow across his guitar strings during the middle part. Jimmy regularly used whatever studio techniques he could when recording and mixing from using different amps, sending the signal through a Leslie speaker, various methods of mic placement, in addition to echoes, reverb, sustain, etc. Both Jimmy and Robert would write lyrics for the first and second albums until Robert primarily took over the lyric writing (Jimmy would still add bits and pieces here and there). Often the music was written first, primarily by Jimmy but additionally, John Paul Jones and Bonzo have writing credits on many songs also then Robert would come up with lyrics to fit the music.
@@markdemos75quite whining, they changed a lot about the original songs, & made them a million times better. Hmmm at least what they changed & added, made the songs stand the test of time, 99% of us never would have heard them at all.
Zep put this together in less than a week AFTER coming together as a band in an EMERGENCY, to fulfill a touring contract after the Yardbirds disintegrated.
Okay long story. When I was a kid I got a demo version of this album and called WLS radio in Chicago at 2am all request and asked the DJ if he had this album and he was shocked I knew it. I requested “How many more times “ and he played it! My Forest Gump moment! Thank you for sharing! Love you Chicago ❤️☮️
Ok guys great reaction. Now Led Zeppelin 2. First song should be Whole Lotta Love. This was the first song I learned on my bass. Looking forward to the next album.🤘😎🎶
Definitely one of the best debut albums both in quality and in the HUGE influence it had on rock music. A universally recognized stellar debut album is Boston’s first. Uniformly great. But it cannot match Zep’s in terms of astounding everyone with taking hard blues/rock to another level.
I still remember hearing this album (8 track) for this first time summer of 69, a guy from California would come to our small town in MN to help his cousin farm, and would bring along new and/or unfamiliar music - we were sitting on main street listening to this album, and we were all going Holy Crap! The part about "they call me the hunter.." is from an existing song that a few bands had done covers on, I was familiar with the "Blue Cheer" version. Zep 'borrowed' a lot from old blues songs as well. This debut album, is one of the best (certainly for this time period), along with the one from "Boston" in the 70s, and Alanis Morrissette "Jagged Little Pill" in the 90s.
This song is THE MOST underrated song on the album. I’ve been digging this song for almost 50 years. MAKE SURE when you do the second album, “Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid” absolutely MUST be played together, they run together so please don’t separate them.
Dony skip around. Simply do them all in order, you won't regret it!! You see the progression and diversity in the band and the god level talent throughput the band!!
About the lyrics, you must know that, in their blues songs, Robert makes a soup of different old blues lines from different songs, so that's where Rosie came out, I think. The truth is that, in Zeppelin, the singing part is just a vehicle for Robert's voice, as a fourth instrument. Lyrics are not important
1 óf their best albums. Their first 4 albums were the best. Used to play this album a few in high school, that I wore it out. They recorded this in 6 days. Should play some Deep Purple, pink Floyd, Sabbath, and some blues, such as Hendrix. And some animals and yardbirds. Keep up the good work.
The haunting sound is was a cello bow. There is a great live version that includes a medley of older songs in the middle. Royal Albert Hall 1969 or 1970. As for lyrics they were taken from old blues songs or Page's work. This track references several blues songs. Plant's lyrics became more and more significant as the band went on. Yes, this is the greatest first album ever. The first two albums gave the band the foundation of fans and record company backing to allow it wander away from the proven hard rock, electric blues formula. Next album added folk songs to the mix but its reputation and epic live concerts carried them through to the fourth album and Stairway to Heaven. The band never stopped trying new things. The other thing about Zeppelin was their exceptional production values. The quality was such that when the recordings were tweaked for the digital era it was to recover what was lost in the switch from vinyl. 50 years after LZ1 was released it remains as good as anything being recorded today.
Zep 1 is still my favorite. It was so raw. I love all their lps,as a teen,I got them all. You are going to love led 2 also, and on down the rabbit hole. Try watching some the live stuff. And how about the bow that Page is using on the guitar? Amazing.
In case you wondered, Zep interpolated the Jimmy Rodgers song "Honeycomb"... you know the part where Robert sings "So, I got me a girl and I kissed her and then",,,. Greetings from Canada- Peace + be safe.
Extremely enjoying seeing the Father / Son reactions!!!! IN time, after you do "Stairway to HEaven" do Heart's tribute at the Kennedy Center....Best cover and tribute ever!!
Led Zep dropped the winter of my junior yr in HS, 2 at the beginning of my senior yr. Blew us away (Beatles fans hated LZ). Now, when I catch a mouse or other rodent in the house or garage, I prance around the house like Hulk Hogan singing, "the call me the hunter, that's my name"-Great reaction. Can't wait for you to do LZ2. Only seen them once, in Long Beach in 1972 on the Stairway to Heaven Tour.
I think this is THE best debut album of all time, especially considering their ages. I think LZ 1 & 2 could easily have been recorded as a double album because they had most, if not all of these songs in the bag at the time of LZ 1's release. They were recorded in different locations though, with 1 being recorded solely at Olympic Studios in London & 2 being recoreded at various locations in the UK & US. Also, Jimmy played a Fender Telecaster on 1 but changed to a Gibson Les Paul, which he got from Joe Walsh, on 2. This alone made a huge difference to the tone on the two albums.
I love the fact that you are doing Zeppelin. How many more times is a masterpiece!! It's 3 songs in one!! The Lemon Song is amazing as well ! But you need to listen to THE LIVE version of SINCE IVE BEEN LOVING YOUoff of the "The song remains the same" album (which by the way was filmed at Madison Square Garden in 1973 SO YOU COULD CATCH THEIR LIVE VIBE) please do it next. Even if you wanna do it studio version, Thanks

Glad you're listening to their entire album, they have a huge catalog, hope you do every one of them and l'll be watching since they're are my favorite band, right along with Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd just to mention a few🤟
The distortion you are hearing could be a combination of things. In most cases effect pedals are put on a board and they’re all interconnected through jack wires which eventually feed into the amp at one end but in the beginning is hooked up to the guitar and then your foot hits the button for the pedal you want to use and these are the ways to get distortion. There are some newfangled amps that have built-in preset pedal affect sounds. I have one for my guitar. And then sometimes you get specific sounds because guitar players will alter the electronics that they put in their guitars.😎
Jimmy had basically 1 guitar a Fender Telecaster on this album but by Zep 2 he acquired his legendary and iconic Les Paul . You can hear the difference in tone which allows him to get a dirtier sound or clean sound when he needs it . Joe Walsh sold it to Jimmy Page .
No one,has a better debut album than Led Zeppelin I. It's unmatched in the history of rock and roll Robert Plant writes the lyrics * however there are some songs that borrow heavily from old Blues songs such as what you will hear on Whole Lotta Love for example but yes Robert wrote the lyrics ✌🏽
gud ole days, ten years after, roxy music, cream, deep purple, pink floyd, hendrix, ian anderson, and then the dark ages, and its still dark, dont think the light will shine again isle of wight concert 1970

Preaching to the choir man..........as Tina put it "Simply the best, better than all the rest "
I think THEY aligned the planets!
Both him and Jimmy. Sometimes all of them. Zep was magic.
It's rarified air when you get more than one virtuoso in a band but Zep was blessed to have 4 of them!
GOD Robert’s voice was utterly AMAZING…..
Jimmy used his violin bow on that one part Jimmy Page was a master at mixing and producing the music! Robert writes most lyrics with Page
Page wrote the lyrics of Zep 1, but Robert began writing lyrics on Zep 2, and if you look at their entire catalog, Plant wrote the large majority of their lyrics.
@@Cosmo-Kramer you're right about zepp one! Page was already established in the music business!

The mighty Led Zeppelin !!! One of the greatest debut albums of all time ! Love your channel .
And LZ II is where Page and Bonham really got that awesome drum sound Bonham would be known for perfected.
@@gregrambo606 Great point! There certainly IS a difference from then on!
"Well, they call me the Hunter!" 🤣
When Jimmy started using a violin bow on his guitar the first time, the crowd collectively LOST THEIR MINDS!🤣
Jimmy Page is the "Master". Nothing is buy chance. Zeppelin 1 & 2 are the blueprint for Rock'n Roll in the 70's.
