New or non skaters tend to forget this isnt his only great achievement, but it was the climax indeed. Thank you for introducing us to skating Tony, and for inventing half the tricks done on Vert. Undisputed Vert GOAT, and most important skater alongside Rodney and Gonz IMO.
Tony Hawk was my skateboard hero when I was 12 and beyond. I was 22 going on 23 when I saw this happen on live TV (or at least the initial broadcast) and cheering and crying at the same time. He's a nice dude and a talented skater, and to see him accomplish this feat was nothing short of wonderful for me. ROCK ON, TONY.

I was a blader at the time and seriously considered switching. Just incredible. They asked him what's next, he shrugged and said 1080 and grinned.

Loved being there to watch him do it, by far the nest experience of my life. Makes it a little better because it was on my 9th birthday, ended up picking up a new board that day too. Got home and started trying, took me a couple years to get a 540 down. Then a skate park opened up in my city, first day I went i started trying again, unfortunately I bailed at the worst possible time and landed on my back on the rail. Now I get to roll everywhere.

This man must not realize that several other people were born in the 90s that know very quickly he's incorrect, without even needing to do the math. I was born in 94, was 5 in 99 and would have been 26/27 when this comment was made.
I love Tony Hawk!
It’s so cool that they named a bird after him!
Actually I love watching birds of prey - and the Tony is my favourite Falcon.
I just saw a vid of a 9yr old Japanese kid doing three 900's in a row.
It's crazy how talented humans are.
Thank you
not on a half pipe ..
And it’s still a lot more difficult to do it when you’re in your 30s or 40s.
@@BibbeDi-BobbeDi yes! It was a half pipe!

Rip dave mirra
Rodney Mullen tho
I remember sitting in my living room on my couch with my then 2 year old son (who is now 26) watching this live on TV. It was probably one of the greatest sports moments I have ever witnessed.
When I saw Tony Hawk hit the 900 live I went insane with excitement. This changed the X games forever.
He was already a legend. He became god right here.
I'm 38 years old, I remember seeing this as it happened. Still gives me chills.
Doing a 900 is better than the day he married his wife and having any of his kids combined.
By far dude.
Riley Hawk is this "assholes" son
Denzell Dy
Well no shit. Thank you for enlightening me on information I already knew.
MidwestSkaterDude keep liking your own comments dude.
Joshua the Delusional Don't know what you're talking about, but alright.
2 decades later, still gives me the chills 🥶 🐐
I still remember watching this live. I literally cried tears of joy when he landed it.
Tony Hawk is the man responsible for making skating mainstream and the best to ever do it. I love this man to death.
In Two decades which is hard to do, first with bones brigade then with his video game.
best to *ever* do it? come on. im not sure anyone can really claim there's a "best to do it" anyway, there are amazing things Tony has done and things he can't even come close to that some other guy can do easily. and so on. im not hip to all the new cats in the game, but as an example; can we really compare Daewon Song and Tony Hawk? or even *should* we?
sorry to rattle off like this, you're just giving propers to the man, and i hope i didnt come across as trying to take away from that.
I watched this happen on Tv when I was 15. Amazing!
TheTokenVamp what year?
FCIM 1908
Caught em..
😍
Was 14, seemed like a big deal. Still does.
TheTokenVamp me too. This was amazing
*Tony Hawk:* _"This is the best day of my life, I swear to God!"_
*Tony Hawk's wife and newborn child standing beside him:* 👀👀
Hugh Jaboner Stolen comment. Pure dweeb.
You're an idiot.. it's an extremely easy joke to make about something that happened near the very end of the video.. Of course a few people out of thousands of comments are going to say the same thing, that doesn't mean it's stolen.. *STOLEN INSULT* this dude called me a dweeb, only one person in history is allowed to use that insult, anyone else after that stole it! Pure thievery!
Hugh Jaboner well only „your“ comment was written after the original was 9 months old, had nearly 20000 likes and was top comment. Clearly not stolen for likes.....
@@moistbandito7378 You win a lifetime supply of W's, my man 😂😂😂
He actually got into trouble for that. I think he talked about that in his book 😂
the fact he was able to dial it in live in front of everybody is insane
It is so awesome to see how supportive skateboarders are of eachother. Its still like this today which is really inspiring. Its not common in competitive sports imo
1:15 "If you don't land it this time, we're all gonna tickle you!"
It was Black magic

Saw this live at crazy am in the UK. The other skaters and croud support was unreal. The guys had a beat going with their boards giving him good vibes. He was at it for almost 10mins after time. I was a blader at the time and seriously considered switching. Just incredible. They asked him what's next, he shrugged and said 1080 and grinned.
What could be better than having your friends and family proudly watch you as you become a legend infront of the whole world?
Determination. Perseverance. Tony Hawk.
Had to come rewatch this classic after seeing that 9 yo kid hit 3 900s back to back, humans have a crazy way of pushing the bar with sports but it's thanks to moments like this that them doors open
I remember watching this live. I was 13 years old and the world was a much different place. What an achievement.
tony hawk, while clearly the most popular skater, is yet the most under rated amongst skaters. "he sucks, fourteen year olds can do this."
ON A FUCKING MEGARAMP. this trick has never been repeated by anybody except bob burnquist and shawn white on this size of halfpipe. say again he sucks?
more people need to hear this fact!!!
Its all about street these days
no one who skates, not even 10 years ago ever underrated Tony, you're bonkers. were* bonkers, hopefully.
Still gives me chills to this day. Such an incredible moment in skateboarding history
Anyone in 2021 randomly get this in their reccomended?
Yesh
Yep 👍
Yup, first x games or skate board video I've watched on RUclips.
2020 here
I don’t think you were in 2020 when you made this comment so no
Watching this when it happened was amazing but seeing it again gives me chills today Dec. 24th 2019!!! ❤
Had to come watch this after the pro-skater remastered announcement
I remember watching this live a few days after my 82 birthday. It was really an historical moment.
Wait what happened bro? You got paralyzed?

Tony Hawks baby from 1:57 : -.-

And thus was the birth of Tony Hawk's special move in his Skateboarding game series.
why doesnt he revert to keep the combo going
Or land in a manual
Sticker slap to manual wallplant anyway?

I was at this X Games, but did not see this live. I had no clue this was his absolute first 900.
First documented 900. Not just his.
He landed the 900 at practises before this.
No one:
RUclips: let’s recommend this 8 years later
No one is safe yt recommendations...
I actually searched this up, didn't get it as recommended.
I'm so glad the internet decided to show me this today!
Larry Fine....... Tony Hawk is a Legend. End of Story
Long live the pappas brothers!
Luis Albarran long live The Pappas Brothers
For all of you talking about has Tas Pappas is better, or he would have landed it first, remember the documentary was made from his point of view, with his input, and his opinions. He fucked himself so hard on drugs that the X Games probably had a thousand reasons not to let him compete. That at he didn't land it first, Tony did. Pappas may have proven himself the better skater had he not fucked himself over, but he failed to prove it because he was a druggie and Tony's dedication to perfection is almost psychotic. Hawk has the credit for the 900, now stop being shitheads and arguing that point just cause he's popular.
shut the fuck up
Thanks +Jeses
"Tony's dedication to perfection is almost psychotic." Damn thats sick
Pulling it off again, I'm sure this comment makes you look pretty stupid. Almost as stupid as me replying to a 2 year old comment. 😁

People should be able to have personal accomplishments.
Saying "the day my son was born was the best day of my life" is just a cliche.
Men are expected to give up their identities and replace it with a wife and child. Lots of people get married and have kids...big deal.
