It's worth mentioning you can also import audio files and sample external sources

I’m not gonna hate hate, because I usually enjoy your content. But dude, there are a ton of features you didn’t highlight. In failing to do so, it gives the impression that the app isn’t capable of keeping up with the SPs and MPCs of the world. Koala is leaps beyond most, if not, all hardware samplers in several aspects. When paired with AUM, it is an absolute monster. I implore you to explore it more and do a follow-up vid.

I find koala amazing for chopping samples cause you can be extremely precise, it can even timestretch in real time, you can litterally drag the loop bar while listening to the beat to match the tempo super useful for acapellas too and the touchscreen gives you an incredibly fast way to do that. It’s my main sampler in combination with others.

Koala is the truth, considering it's only 5 ducking bucks! I have a Digitakt, a MC-707, Maschine, a PO-33 and my studio partner has a MPC live. However, i find myself reaching for Koala the most to get a jam started, even just to cut up some samples. The truth is Koala is just so extremely powerful in it's simplicity. Add the stem separation and the new mixer update, and you can wrap it uppp. How i wish stuff like this was around way back when i was a kid!

It really is an application that gives value to your mobile phone and since the SP-404 does not have a microphone to capture the sound of the street, use Koala Sampler to make beats with the sounds of my city.
It is seriously the most useful thing for your iOS system, together with Garageband you can do everything, it is a sampler with no limit of samples, it is infinite like your iPhone.
Very graphic, very intuitive, the sound is very good when it samples sounds from the street or from a USB interface.
Now on the iPhone for an ultra-vitamined teenage engineer, and on the iPad a good-sized SP-505.
I use this thing on an iPad Pro M1 and iPhone 13, anything I want I can do and work on in the DAWs.
It's also a great sample and loop generator to sell.
Only the sky is the limit.

@@arifmemovic3383 Aira's Roland SP404-A is like an SP404 SX with Aira colors, but it has a built-in microphone and sounds a little better in audio captures.
The latest SP404 mkII model only has a microphone line for a Shure SM58 type microphone, it is not suitable for recording things live without having a wired microphone at the line input.
It's sad, because the machine is great, but one of the coolest things was capturing audio anywhere using batteries, then working on ideas and finishing them in the studio. 😅👍

Bruh, you can definitely record through the mic on the iPad if you want... and you can do it while playing the sequence over the speaker ..If You Want... the headphone next to the FX if you click that it will give you several options like Mic, App, and I forget whatnelse... but think about it. You aren't set up into an interface.. you wanna record the shaker over the speaker playing the sequence? It'll sound ridiculously hissed up, no headroom, if it doesn't just feedback straight away.... which is why the mic is almost ALWAYS initially disabled on the iPad apps.
I don't know why you came into this video ready to throw shade, it's only THE BEST sampling software ever created. This dude is single-handedly making the SP-404 obsolete.. or at the very least a wayyyyy overpriced and less update-able Dino. That's why I don't even mind when they come out with likely completely fully featured new modules and charge another 5 bucks. Because I've up til now still only spent 15 bucks total (the Mixer with sends and busses came out last week) and I've finished probably 40 or 50 tracks just with this app.. and I've STILL never out something out of my 404 that feel done by itself.
Don't worry man, he could tell if he went after MPC-Gang he would never get anywhere... ; )
Look, I'm just saying; I watch mad of your vids, I like that you call out what's good, what's not, and when you see BS you call that too. But you can't complain about missing features just because you didn't take the time to learn that they not missing!
You were just saying last week that the 30 dollar SP1200 app was pretty decent... where's the PAR-IT-Y my dude??

14:04 You're sampling from the mic with headphones on. How is the mic supposed to hear that? You can so this by hosting Koala in something like AUM, or just screen record like you did the youtube videos earlier in the video

  • @arifmemovic3383
    @arifmemovic3383 6 месяцев назад

You can record over a loop using the microphone. However, you need to mess with the settings a bit. This is the workaround. You are able to record a sample to a pad while the sequence is running. Just have the sequence running while you record to a pad using the built in mic. Make sure the sequence is routed to play through the headphones and that the sample you are recording to a pad is being recorded with the device's microphone. Then all you have to do is trigger the pad within the sequence and it will be in time.

Appreciate you making a video about Koala, but basically everything you said you wanted already exists, and there are a lot of amazing features I’m guessing you weren’t aware of. In my opinion, Koala is the 21st century MPC. I don’t even use a hardware sampler anymore. Just Koala, and export stems to Ableton. It’s significantly easier, and faster, to work with than anything else currently available. And it’s always in your pocket, so you can work on a track anywhere, then when you get home airdrop the file to your iPad for the bigger screen and keep working. The workflow is unmatched.

Thanks for taking the time to check out a phenomenal app but I worry people who do t know the app will think it’s dog shit because you are do t understand what it’s capable of - and tgat would be a huge disservice to the app developer and to the music making community.

He paid $5 for the app and is complaining he doesn’t get enough functionality when he pays hundreds and hundreds on LESS CAPABLE hardware. Shameful and not a fair comparison.

yes you can record in real time while you are recording, after pressing play you just got to go back to the sample tap, instead of staying on sequencer tap, plus koala is an auv3 which means its also a plugin that you can use inside any other ios Daw, my favorite daw to pair koala with is Aum, because Aum which its a mixer daw which gives you endless possibilities for koala, plus the options for not only sampling other auv3 (plugins) instrument if that what you want, but also you can mix and master your koala projects, using other auv3 (plugins) processers and fx, specifically because koala has 8 multi-outputs which means you can separate the melodies section, the drums section, sounds fx section, vocals or ect section, into a separate mixer channel in Aum, basically in my opinion Aum is like Koala other better half for making a complete finish project,,, also because Koala is an Auv3 app, you can have more then 1 koala instances, meaning you can have multiple koala at the same time in Aum which gives you the option to have unlimited pad banks for samples, or sounds for a project,
also about the sequencers, you can make a sequencer for each section like intro, hook, verse, bridge ect, on the sequencer pads, and ones you have all you tack sections, and your next step is to create a track (song) you can drag each sequencer sections (intro, hook, verse ect) into an empty sequencer to create the complete track (song) by the way you can double click on the a sequencer pads to see the piano roll,
also on the sequencer tap or section, you have the options to note repets or the keyboard for the hihats or the bass for example,,, anyways on Koala there is a lot more options for other stuff including for the time stretching, basically koala is deeper then it looks you just need to get to know the app,
by the way my channel its all about the beats i created on my iphone and for the pass 2 years has been all about the beats that i created using Koala, together with Aum for the mixing and mastering, so yeah i know everything that got to do with Koala and ios daw and auv3 plugins !

if you did all that those 3 steps and its still not recording you voice or anything, im guessing that it has to do with your android device mic settings option and not koala, which it might be that you need to give Koala the permission to use your device mic !

This is why the MPC files sound the same whether in the device in the app or in another daw as a VST. The only difference is workflow.
Sure, you could track out and resample but the mpc is mid as a converter.
Hey if you mean the older gen MPCs then miss my comment 😅

I love Koala....haven't tried the stem separation yet, but it did not sound that good in your vid. That makes me wonder whether NI would include the Izotope RX separation into Maschine.....I wished they had a bigger development team, so they could make Maschine better faster. It has such potential as a super workflow DAW....but the enhancements are only trickling in....

@@AveMcree Coming from Ableton/Push 2, I've been using the MPC Live 2 for 2 years now. And while it's a fantastic device for all the stuff it can do (which is basically everything), the workflow is far from intuitive and even downright outdated, probably thanks to its legacy. Koala is a breath of fresh air in that regard.

@@AveMcreeSorry Ave, but that a bit like the pot and the kettle. I own an MPC and I like it sound quality and all. But I must admit I haven't worked 16 year plus on the MPC, but Koala has some tricks up it's sleeve my MPC and my SP would have. On shot resampling being one of them. Merging samples by dropping them on each other or concatting them on the fly. Or simple beatmatching with a single touch. Of course it's no MPC, I love my MPC and my SP, which I bought after having worked with Koala BTW. But for fast on the fly work. No match indeed. I use Koala in bed for instance, try that with an MPC 😂.

I have a 2015 iPad Pro and it still kinda shreds everything I throw at it. A M1 chip in a IPad seems like HUGE overkill until they step up their software game. Probably a great device, but the devs just haven’t caught up. I had high hopes when I bought that OG iPad Pro (and I guess I should be happy it’s lasted me 8 years) but I’d expected it to be more of a game changer when they went after that market. Mostly use it for digital art, the stylus is gas
