the app upgrade is totally worth it. stretching beats before cutting then having them already perfectly on bpm is great, and you can sidechain via mixer effects
Great tutorial and tight beat. I'm a little late to the game..(in my fifties) But just started making beats. Your style of teaching and sharing knowledge was the best and easiest to understand for my crusty old brain... Keep it up.. Just subscribed..
There's an Easter egg that was added recently. If you go to the settings and then the extras tab you'll see an about and ok button down at the bottom. If you hold the ok button for long enough you'll get a stems extractor feature
It’s worth the samurai upgrade for sure! I’ve left my mpc and 404 at the house the last 2 weeks and just been using koala and the po33 at work. It’s been fun!
@@arifmemovic3383 for sure Koala, chopping samples and resampling is just incredibly easy in Koala. I wish it had some of the dirt you get with the PO-33 but in my mind, it’s not even a close comparison
Awesome stuff! Not sure if you can edit multiple chops at a time, but what I do is go ahead and set one shot mode and a choke group on the main sample pad before I copy it to other pads. Then when you copy it, it’ll retain those settings on each new pad (like you did with pitch).
When you upgrade to Samurai Mode, choke groups and chopping are available in the edit section. You can set a choke group for all the chops in advance. EDIT: I forgot to say, it also has time stretch in Samurai mode.
@@RYANMAKESBEATS There was a time in the firts builds of Koala that you could copy Db values just by taping and holding then taping in the other pad you wanted to copy settings. It was awesome for workflow but then thet patched for some reason...
I did asked Marek if he could fix this, but he said that wasn't a feature, more like a bug, but honestly it was a workflow hack. I guess with midi you don't have to worry
Appreciated tips - attack for that ramping effect and two pads for hi hats. I use Perform mode to add effects and resample loops. You can do that to get granular sounds and chop the new sample to taste. I should get a splitter too; since, a direct recording is usually way better than an open air mic.
I love Koala. I use it with Beatmaker 3 and iMPC Pro 2. I used to use it for the stems then re-record the samples in the MPC but now I'm using Serato Sampler since the 2.0 update.
Nice beat - for the performance FX, if you put your iPad in landscape, you will see all 16 of the effect slider on one screen instead of having to use the vanilla/strawberry page buttons. There's also an option to show the pad mute/solo buttons on the sample/sequence pages in Settings-> Extras.
I don't think you can edit multiple samples at the same time BUT you can set the choke and one shot mode BEFORE making the copies so you just do it once
Is there anything I need to know before recording audio into the headphone port on iPad? I've never thought of that before because everyone always says you need an iRig to record. Do I need a special cable?
You can erase a trigger in the sequence with the clear function and the sample while playing, and it will erase the triggers encountered. I do it on android, because I only bought the full version for iOS. Consider it a quirk of the tool as you would any other machine. Or pay a miniscule amount for upgrading it, if you really really need manuel pattern editing mode. But it's not street to. It's street to live with the quirk and own it.
i have that one but no tablet, i find it hard to sample a beat, it sounds like the needle got stuck on the record on the old turn tables. i got a looper instead.
The mute groups are in the “sample” menu, and they are called Choke Groups in the app. Any two samples in the same choke group will mute each other when your try to play them simultaneously. Thanks for watching!!
Man, how did you get ur tablet to record sound from your record player, I tried doing two phones, like I wanted to record from youtube to the app but couldn't get it to work... I saw they have an app that works like that with koala, you can play videos and hit a pad and it'll record the sound from youtube. I wanna plug in a cd player how u did your record player, how exactly would I do that. I tried but it wouldn't record 😕 Maybe I'm using wrong wires. 🤷♂️🤦♂️
You cold of just put the first sample in mute group 1 and when copying that sample to the next pad, all the properties of that fist pad would follow to the next pad and the and the next so on and so forth.
I've recently become interested in sampling because of an app called Group the Loop, made by a developer in the UK. What makes it different is that it is meant for creating songs, or compositions. It's not about chopping up sounds, but about a workflow that is more melodic and musical. The idea is to create compositions on the fly.
Dude that shit about increasing the attack was fucking gold…. Crazy how some of the easiest most simple shit is sitting right under our noses and that change is the difference between a pro sounding banger and some bedroom beat made by a tone deaf amateur

ok so right out of the gate, this "sampler" doesn't even let you hear/monitor what you are sampling? That's a pretty big short coming and reason alone to skip this app.
Marek, the creator of Koala, mentioned bringing the SP 303's limitations as the main feature for this app, and Dilla's Donuts as his main inspiration.
That’s a good sign, dilla was one of the best to do it on a SP-303
the app upgrade is totally worth it. stretching beats before cutting then having them already perfectly on bpm is great, and you can sidechain via mixer effects
Hold edit and select all the samples you want to change a parameter at the same time. This also works for deleting
The granular sampling capabilities are pretty amazing too. You can shape your own sounds really fast.

Now you can hold edit, select all the samples, and edit the pitch, volume, etc. for all of them. Doesn’t work for EQ though (I don’t think).
