I've just rewatched this and you are indeed a magician. It's such a helpful description of your approach to using Koala to create some wonderful loops.
Brilliant tutorial! This is a great way to make music on the iPad. Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this so well. After having "defected" to hardware I'm now being drawn back to my iPad again.
The resampling notes with the keyboard tip is huge for me. I find I always have to tune melodic elements then have to bounce copy and do the next note with lock to semitone enabled. Huge
Always love seeing ppl try new things w koala. Just when I think I attempted every possible technique u can do with this guy, I joyfully find myself proven wrong! (Over n over lol) Cheers great work 😊
Your self effacing style is completely relatable to me and I have immediately subscribed. It’s cool to see these kinds of workflow walkthroughs and yours was entirely informative. Thanks for helping me see what else Koala Sampler could be good for, I had been experimenting with making synths out of samples but have always wanted to try making ambient music and this gave me tons of ideas to get going with experimenting on my own.
Thank you so so much for the kind words and for watching! I’m super happy to somehow have been useful! My aim is to make another more up to date video concerning the mixer section and stuff like that! As soon as I get some free time I’ll do it! Thanks again!!!
Love your self-deprecating style in explaining this. Really helpful - I’d not worked out how to record the samples with koala effects applied. Boom! Resample from app. Thanks.
This is absolutely perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much, you've really broadened the scope of what this app can be used for! YAY!
That was a very interesting process. A very different approach to how I produce music but the end result sounded great! It has piqued my interest in exploring Koala in more depth than I have currently. Thanks.
Hey man, Ive been producing for almost a decade and come by this video while researching if I should get Koala Sampler for IOS or Android, but this video presented something else. Unexpected and fantastic, and I really glad that I watched it. Thanks for this! :)
Thanks so much for watching. Koala has changed a lot since I made the video making sound design much easier, but the basics are still the same!! Thank you!!!!!!
@@sevenape hope to see more from you 😉, and also thanks for the advice about Xkernel samples packs : they are very good and really not very expensive (many are free) 👍
I loved this video, and it's great to see you working through your process. Koala has so much potential for ambient looping. I absolutely love Koala. I'm just at the beginning of my Koala journey, and loving every minute of it. I absolutely love sample based music for ambient, and like you, love Koala, and physical tape as well as emulations. I'm having a whole lot of fun with it all.

@@sevenape likewise, man! No offence to anyone at all, but I personally don't want to see people doing the same standard lofi beat production stuff on Koala so the things you do with it always spark my curiosity and creativity!
Hey thanks very much!! I use the basic model from 2020 I think it’s the 8th generation. It’s the one with the a12 chip. It’s almost the last one with a headphone port.
Sorry, whats the other app you use where you add the tap delay? I mean, whats your apps and hardware setting?? Im trying to find out how to use my ipad for sound with mic and headphones, but im still in process, so your little advices would be huge. Thank you!!!
No worries, it's an app called AUM. It's a host mixer app that lets you host several instruments (And mic) and effects and mix and record them all. Tap delay is a separate app that I bought, but there are many different tape effect apps, one very good free one is called CHOWtape. Basically AUM uses a protocol called AUV3 and any app that supports this protocol can be loaded into AUM. @gavinski did a really good video on AUM here: ruclips.net/video/lHMFYZy-VP0/видео.html Having said all that, the latest update to koala now has a built-in mixer in which you can use some built-in effects, it's pretty easy to get a tape sound, I'll do a video very soon about that. :)
@@sevenape And you are way more musical than him - Trevor Horn said Mal was the most unmusical person and worst singer he ever worked with. Hundreds of takes to get anything usable.

I would say iPad is recommended if you wanna use lots of other apps alongside. I have an iPad mini. On the other hand phones are small and handy and can go anywhere. With the latest update koala is becoming more and more a complete package. So if you want/need a sp 404 alternative workflow it's all you need, so even a halfway android phone will do you proud.
@@sevenape I'm selling the 404 SX as never could adapt to the workflow (lack of screen and SD usage I'd say as I was coming from Reason/Ableton). I'd indeed use a couple other iOS apps, so I guess an iPad is the right choice. I'd use a midi minikeyboard though and these new iPads having just an usb-c connection and not having the 3.5mm audio otput could cause some struggle 😅 Anyway, I think the mini 6 could serve but I'm a bit doubtful cos of the jelly scroll effect.. maybe a refurbished Pro 🤔
@@noodlessoul8356 a refurbished pro probably would be best, but just to add my 2 cents, I’ve never experienced any jelly scrolling, or never noticed it at least. The lack of headphone out could be an issue though, I rarely use my mpk midi controller, so it’s not a big issue for me as I just use a USB’s adapter for my headphones. I think you can get adapters that can take both headphones and a midi controller so that’s something to think about. I have to say that I have no regrets about going completely iOS only based for my style of music so I can really recommend an iPad over anything else.
