  • Marjory Stoneman Douglas AP government teacher Jeff Foster has taught Emma Gonzalez, Delaney Tarr, and David Hogg. His key lesson, the one that they have carried forth over the last six weeks, is simple and powerful: if you don’t participate, you can’t complain. It’s a lesson that was on full display this weekend, as the Parkland movement swept over the country in the March for our Lives.

I think you have a mental problem...perhaps you've been victimized by someone or something and you are afraid to be human and call the shots.
Sadly, we feel concerned that speaking against criminals and their polluted minds is somehow not acceptable or cool. You feel that right is wrong, and are certain that wrong is right, so much so that you want to convince others.
It's not only you, friend, but lots of crazies.
I am seeing so much criticism of those who want to support good, healthy youth.
Sorry, but I strongly can't be on your page.

William Cassadone, for more than 150 years walkouts by unions, teachers, postal workers, and others have freequently been planned in advance not spontaneous. Those walkout by millions of people for generations have made significant advancements in our socieity, from civil rights, women voting right, right to a minimum wage, ban child labor, on and on. Sometimes it took years of marching and protesting and sometimes it took one move over one month.

Melissa Denbo yes your right but those were adults that had to pay real life consequences for their actions and these are children who aren’t taking any risks or being brave they are telling me I have blood on my hands and I support killing children because I’m in the NRA and have to have my rights taken away because of the actions of a mentally disturbed psycho that I’ve never even met why don’t they march against the stupid FBI and cowardly cops that did nothing when they could have stopped this long before it ever happened

Even now It's crazy to think that kids were killed because of A sociopath who didn't seek any help. Schools should start teaching mental health and where to go to when you need help. At the school that I went to they have a program that helps kids who are depressed and I didn't even know about It. They should tell everyone that they have that program and any school who doesn't have a program like that needs to make one

Another thing is that Parkland was so easily predictable and preventable, just if police and FBI weren't so ignorant. There were multiple cases where Cruz has death- theratened a person, or posted on social media about shooting up a school, this was reported to the FBI but they ignored that....

How come the teacher told a student 4:20 the movement is summarized as "we just wanna make sure that there isn't another mass shooting in a school, at a concert, in a mall", but the marches mostly show the kids talking about gun control? Is it the media that only shows that part and not show the speeches that say they want to hear more solutions? I only hear them talking about some solutions, mostly having to deal with guns. Not mental health, or other topics.

  • @alexsixx437

For those who've bought into the massive straw man of people looking for gun reform I'll spell it out for you.
    - We want to ban assault weapons, NOT semi-automatic weapons.
    - We support the 2nd ammendment, and the right for a citizen to own a weapon such as a pistol or revolver. Please keep in mind that the constitution requires a *well regulated* militia. We are simply wanting to implement regulations that we desperately need.
    - Every other modern nation has stricter gun laws than us. This isn't a radical idea. Places like England, France and Germany have not become tyrannical dictatorships because guns were regulated or outright banned. Gun violence is also very low in these countries.

You are correct. But some kids with major psychological issues won't respond well to overtures from classmates. The Sandy Hook shooter comes to mind. I'm not sure the Parkland shooter was bullied as much as ostracized because he was violent and unpredictable. Some of these shooters are sociopaths. But I agree completely that students need to take responsibility for those who are marginalized whenever possible. Compassion needs to become part of the curriculum - everyone would be better off.

Why do teachers permit students to bully and torment fellow classmates rather than show empathy for reaching-out with compassion? Parkland students drove a troubled young person who needed help into becoming a murderer. We need laws that hold teachers criminally liable when they contribute to causing these 100% preventable tragedies.

Have you ever wondered why no wars are ever fought in the mainland US of A? That is because the majority of our moms and dads have guns. Any army or guerrilla warfare would be suicidal inside the USA. We will never be invaded. So guns really are not the issue. The issue is selling guns to children. It should be 21 years old and after training inside big citys. If you grow up outside a big city, kids are born into guns and it is never an issue because the mystery of guns is removed when we are just kids. But in the city's, guns are always "taboo" so what do you think the kids will do? The will FLOCK to guns like stink on ship.
We need to let all US citizens whom have proven themselves to be legit humans carry concealed weapons throughout the land unencumbered. These idiots who pick soft targets KNOW that NO ONE HAS A GUN and they can go bezerk unopposed! Give teachers training and access to guns too! It is so a no brainer we have come to realize. I realize that you might think we are all safe and honkie-dorie in the USA but we are NOT! Guns keep us FREE! Every society that gets guns taken away ALWAYS ends up being OWNED by the government! The past does not lie. Several of us have totally flip-flopped on the gun issue once we really put our thinking caps on. We have all decided that 21 years old to buy a gun is the right thing to do after training...and yes, I am a survivor.

If it’s changes the age you can get a gun, or if it’s make it more background tests or however else harder they can make it. Or whatever they do, they need to do something! Because weather your republican or Democratiic, well as Americans should want the same exact thing! To make this country save for the younger, older, for any American!

Guns are only part of the problem. Guns should never be in the wrong hands. But a school with kids should be secure and therefore should be staff designated to watching and keeping things like this from happening and escalating to the level that it did. You don't have E mass shootings at police departments or military bases because there are armed personnel.
