You guys should add a way to sort wheels by weight if you're going to extol the virtues of lightweight wheels. As it is, I can't tell which wheels weigh more than others on your site.
This is perhaps the best video I’ve seen on the subject. Many of the ones I’ve viewed do not go into the specifics about the performance benefit gained. The only way it could’ve been better would be to take one vehicle with different weight wheels and tires (one set super light weight, the other with the same size wheels and tires but heavier) and do acceleration, braking, and cornering test with a Vbox to confirm the results.
I noticed in some budget cars the alloy wheels are heavier than regular steel wheels. Mite go for lighter steel wheels to help on bumpy roads. Thank you for this video. Especially 1:55
The new wheels on my CX-5 weigh 7 lbs. less per than the stock…from 24 each to 17 each. The biggest difference I noticed is in acceleration and handling.
I would think that dropping rotating mass, i.e., wheels+tires, would cause a rougher ride because the suspension has not changed, meaning that it is made to push against a higher weight, and with the weight lowered, the suspension will slam the wheel into the ground.
Reducing unsprung weight allows the tire to follow the road more easily, reducing the "hit" of most bumps. You're either helping or fighting the inertia of the shock and spring combo, so lighter wheels and tires reduce the load on them as they damp out irregularities.
21 Ford Bronco with 35 by 12.5 Toyo Tires and KMC Summit Wheels. I will never intentionally take this off road and would like a smoother ride. If my next set of tires are 33s and maybe lighter Wheels, will this make it rides smoother on the highway?
Great question! No they wouldn't. Lighter wheels will help your suspension do it's job better. Your suspensions job is to keep your tires in contact with the ground and provide grip over rough surfaces.

That's a good point! I'll bring it up!
Totally agree! Im in the market for lightweight, though tire rack does sorting by weight, itd just help you guys do better!
THIS.
They did it
I'm really glad they have someone on the team that talks about the more technical aspects of wheels, tires, and suspension. Keep doing the thing Sean!
Thanks Jerome!

Went high-school with this guy. He was so funny with his cars. 👋
if only Fitment Industries included weight in the filter area....

Had enkei rpf1 16" on 247bhp type r yokohama r tires and feeled the diffrens in acceleration much !
still don’t know why these videos don’t get much love🤦♂️ that’s crazy to me....guess more people care about show....than go!
This channel is pretty new compared to the main one. Every share helps my man!

did the steering become lighter?

Do lighter wheel makes the ride more comfortable or less comfortable?
Lighter wheels have more benefits for performance. But they won’t make the ride less comfortable.

Why this video didnt get much view
thanks for your reply i was curious to know my wheels are 4.8kg so im pretty good on my wheel weight.
Yes!
Thank you!
How can I get a set of directional wheels? (Aodhan AH09). I always need to buy a set of 4, I just want 2 Passenger and 2 Driver side.

How light is light weight
And now best lightweight wheels to get.
Motegi and Konig make some fantastic, lightweight wheels that are relatively inexpensive.
Rpf1
Many manyfactures old oem alloys at sizes 15"-16" goes between 5-7kg and 17" 8-9kg and are dirt cheap if looks dont matter.
Should have gone to you guys before tire rack😬
Next time fam 🤘
Hey 1st ( ngl Sean > Gels . He is more thicc)
what weight in kg would you say is a light wheel ? .
Under 9kg. Or under 20lbs
But won’t light weight wheels reduce grip?
Short answer, no. There's a lot that goes into it.

Okay, so when you drive your car you body is a sprung weight, but when you leave you car it becomes an unsprung weight?
Anyone make 1 lb wheels
