This song is about how many people consider Megadeth a "Victory" or success, when they don't know what group founder Dave Mustaine went through to get to that point. The lyrics, "Had fingers in my eyes, needles in my veins" is a reference to his battle with drugs. "A knife right through my heart" could refer to his former band Metallica, or past relationships that went badly
I'd always thought that this song was about overcoming drug addiction.

Megadeth was on a streak of classic albums with Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia. Check out Family Tree on this album. One of the best lyrically Dave has ever done. At least in my opinion.
I would also include Cryptic Writings there. The last one with Friedman and Menza. Also a very good album.
Even the three albums before Rust In Peace are classic albums . Killing Is My Business And Business Is Good, Peace Sells But Who's Buying, and So Far,So Good, So What are PHENOMENAL albums also. Even later albums like The System Has Failed, United Abominations, Endgame, and Dystopia are amazing albums.
Yeah. I like their earlier stuff to, especially So Far, So Good, So What. The reason I referred to those 3 as Megadeth's classic streak was because that's when their talent peaked with their best lineup at the height of their success

Agreed, I have this album and Countdown as my go-to's for my work commute.
At the time of its Canadian release, Youthanasia was the fastest-selling album in Canadian history.
Just might be my favorite guitar solo of all time. It's 4 solos. 2 by Dave and 2 by Marty. Everything about this song is incredible.
I think 2 years after you guys are appreciating his voice a lot more. Especially if you’re singing along your first time hearing it 😊🤘🏻
"Fingers in my eyes" is referencing his own personal reactions to his addiction issues. It's a double-meaning, one being that he was freaking out on drugs and alcohol and sort of "clawing out his eyes" in anxiety reactions. The other meaning that he was blinding himself by continuously ignoring the warnings from his friends and family about the effects his addictions were having on his life.
Leave it to Mustaine to take something that should by all rights be a gimmicky mess (writing a whole song with titles of his previous songs) and turn it into a masterpiece production.

This song is so awesome. Funny enough, it almost seems like a victory lap to close the chapter on the Classic era of Megadeth. If I remember correctly, this is the Closing track on Youthanasia, and, after this record; They release Risk, which is considered their version of Load by many fans.

Yep, some great tunes on that 'Youthanasia' album and I think this was my favourite. It'd be my tied favourite along with 'A Tout Le Monde'. Funny thing is, this was the last album I bought from Megadeth when it came out. After that, my own life became a complete mess with alcohol and losing touch with reality. Eventually I also became a victory...

back in school when youthanasia came out I listened to this song about 10 times every day. The whole composition, the lyrics and of course the guitar-solo-battle at the end is so unique and effective. One of the top 5 Deth-songs.
Yep "The Conjuring" is a song. Since Dave getting saved, Megadeth didn't play that one for awhile, but I was just now watching a concert where they do play it. Mustaine talked about why they didn't play it in some interviews.
Fingers in my eyes is a reference to people pointing fingers at him, i.e. Metallica and the fans at that time, as well as the PMRC and their heavy metal witch hunt in the 80's
Underrated Megadeth track. That lead melody that kicks in @ 4:10 is one of my favourites.

I love this álbum.
The Beatles have a song on the White Album called "Glass Onion" whose concept is the same - consisting of the titles of their other songs and references to facts about the band. Despite being a short song it is quite cool.
