The 80s were a different time. In high school the girls would give my friends and me stink face for wearing our Megadeth and Metallica shirts. They thought we were scary for listening to bands like Megadeth. Young guys today don't know how good they got it to see girls today digging this stuff.

lol dude, girls that actually like Megadeth are still rare af IF in fact they even exist!! A distorted guitar is STILL like spraying raid at the cockroaches. The girls that say they really like Megadeth are mostly into it because they think Dave Mustaine used to be so hot AND cuz they've seen some long haired studs wearing the shirts. Women's biology is STILL there preventing them from truly getting into thrash metal like any normal dude would.
If you take a look at all the reaction channels, they are all fake. They just want the numbers in viewership to make money with. Do not believe that the outcast label that comes with being a metalhead doesn't apply anymore. Mainstream media has a choke hold on society now more than ever and only corrupt money can apply to become part of the brainwashing machine. it's all about business and numbers, not about passionate artists.

@@DEFKONSIXTYSIXlml Girls that like Megadeth are rare? I would think that all those female metal vocalists listen to Megadeth. Plus, this isnt some sort of brutal death metal. Its Megadeth, one of the most popular metal bands ever. I've listen to some all female death metal and grindcore bands that are 100x heavier than this.

Dave and Marty wrote the best riffs and solos ever written in the history of metal and put them on this album. Even if you're not into metal this album is a reminder of what peak musicianship looks like.
Edit: As a guitar player, I can tell you that Marty Friedman has a habit of writing some obscenely hard solos and this one is on top of that mountain. Even after nailing it note for note, it's impossible to copy Marty because his technique and feel are very unorthodox and he has a very recognisable and original style.

This is my favorite metal album of all time, and I know it for as long as it exists, but it never gets normal hearing it. The quality and beauty of it makes me emotional too sometimes. It just can't be compared to anything else, it's like a class of it's own. And it's so great to see that it still makes an impact on people who hear it for the first time, even after 32 years. I can only hope that everything you listen to after this won't be disappointing, because you will be measuring it by this standard. I only had the Beatles and Led Zeppelin when I was 20. Before MTV's first appearance in 1983 all good music was on the radio or in the record stores on fragile vinyl discs. Licorice Pizza or, "vinyl records" were like newly dropped albums. The British band, "Budgie" had a huge influence on Dave Mustane and James Hetfield of Metallica. Personally, I have been into Buidgie since 1978. Check out their album, "Impeckable" circa 1977. Metallica covered two of their songs on "Garage Days". Budgie is a three man band from Wales and have influenced some outstanding bands like Megadeth and Metallica and other great projects like mine!

This album is as close to perfect as you can get with thrash metal imo. Listening to it for the first time ~5 years ago was pretty mind blowing. I listened to Holy Wars and Tornado before hearing the rest of the album, and listened to it in it's entirety a few years later. I was surprised how much I liked the other songs on the album and now I prefer Take no Prisoners, Poison was the Cure, Five Magics, and Lucretia (which has one of the best guitar solos ever imo) to the more popular songs. I kinda made a conscious decision to become a metal head at some point in high school and didn't start listening to whole albums for a while after that, so I was sleeping on most of this album for a while. There's just so much good metal to listen to haha
Btw Megadeth is part of the "Big Four" of thrash metal along with Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax. Idk if you're familiar with Metallica's discography, but if you're planning on reacting to it that'd be dope. Master of Puppets is such a good album.

And yeah the solos are not easy (I teach guitar). Marty (the lead guitarist) uses a lot of unconventional scales and fingerings and has a style of bending notes that mimics eastern style stringed instruments but is incredibly difficult to emulate on guitar. I think it’s pretty important to understand that this album was probably the most amount of musicianship that we have ever seen in a commercially mainstream context (I know fans will hate me saying that megadeth is mainstream) but this shit was being blasted at highschools all over America. And in a way the musicianship doesn’t matter. The musicianship is just a means to an ends for writing insane borderline “laser guided” music. You can’t be a bad musician and try to play this. You need to be a human metronome.
And yeah five magics is on another level. You can’t compare it to any other metal song yet it is iconoclastic

My first concert ever was in 1990 with Testament (another band you might enjoy) and Megadeth opening for Judas Priest at Hara Arena in Dayton, OH (location of Hangar 18 at Wright Patt Air Force Base). Soooo good. Saw them a few other times in the early 90s before I became a dad and money got tight, but later I got to see them again when they were touring again in 2010 for the 20th anniversary of this album where they played the album in its entirety. Sounded just as great 20 years later. After playing the entire album in 2010, they did a reprise at the end of the show of ...The Punishment Due. It's the best part of this great album, so going back to that part along with all the guitar solos was just glorious.
A couple of things: 1. You listened to the original vocal recordings, not remasters (frankly the remastered versions suck). 2. When they played Dawn Patrol in 2010, they did indeed leave the stage so the bassist and drummer had the stage, but the vocals were recordings, not sung off stage. I'm sure he's done them live before though.

As a guitarist of about 15 years, yes the solo for Tornado of Souls is very hard to play, but not quite in the way I think people who don't play guitar think. It is HELLA fun to play though, and you never get tired of trying it out, even if you are far from perfect at playing it

To this day, Rust in Peace is hands down my favorite Megadeth album. My favorite solo off the album is Marty Friedman’s solo in Tornado of souls. Marty Friedman is an underrated guitarist but definitely one of my favorites.

I’ll explain the lack of shirts, Kaiya. I was a thrash metal singer and lead guitarist in the 90s. For some, the shirtless bit was just image. Actually, let me rewind and address the jeans. That was the style of jeans worn by folks who weren’t hippies, skaters, surfers, grunge rockers, or normies. Usually, I had a couple of holes in mine from where they were torn in dirt bike accidents or drunken brawls. As for the shirts, I’d typically start a show wearing not just a shirt, but also my favourite denim cutoff vest. However, playing that fast, especially under high-wattage klieg lights, makes you SWEAT. A LOT. During a typical 1.5 hr set I would go through 3 L of water-all of it lost through SWEAT, maybe 6 oz lost through urine. So by about 30 minutes into the show, layers would start coming off. I’d lose the vest at 20-30min, and the shirt by 40-60. I took a page from James Hetfield’s book and wore absorbent wristbands to keep the sweat off my guitar.
Besides the energy we put into performance, Metallica, Megadeth, and I all came from very warm climates, so that was a contributing factor.

@@imaKaiya I'd go by eras. So start with the albums between 1985 to 1990.. Youve done Rust.. 3 to go..
Then do the 1992 to 1999 era..
      Then 2001 to 2011..
Then the current era.. 2013 to present (new album dropping in 2 months).
That's how I'd split it up personally.. There's something about going though a bands catalogue in the order of release that really gives you this greater insight into what makes the band unique and the wide sounds and subjects they cover.. Megadeth are a varied band you won't get just Rust in Peace over and over.. Lots to discover.
