tbh There isn't enough interactivity to call it a "Social Robot" for today's standards, this is a toy 15 years too late. Greatest thing about this is that the design seems simple, durable and fluffy, unlike other Japanese expo cases. People keep comparing this to advanced AI toys but this isn’t meant to be that from the get-go. With the right amount of luck and support I definitely see the potential for this.
The sharks called it right the first time - this toy is a bad investment. From what I can see, there isn’t any real “interactivity” between the toy and the user. Parents give their children tablets because the child can stay entertained by interacting with the tablet without parental intervention - so the parent is free to get other things done. If the parent has to issue remote commands, they’re still entertaining the kid. This toy SHOULD have been designed with an interactive VUI that allows the *kid* to speak commands and an AI that can understand, respond and learn the kid’s preferences so it can make intelligent suggestions for stories and songs during playtime (i.e., If the parents say “Hey Kodi, it’s bedtime” the toy would respond “It’s bedtime. Would you like me to read a bedtime story?). Even better if the toy also answered questions (i.e., Hey Kodi, how many stars are in the sky?) Kids already do this with Alexa and would probably be disappointed with Kodi’s limited functionality. Plus, as the sharks mentioned, Amazon already has years of AI and VUI development behind them, so if making it “cute” is the only barrier to entering the market, Amazon will quickly hurdle that before this company can even get funding. I noticed that this guy talked about his “background in tech” and “degree from Stanford” but was pretty vague about what that specifically means (he didn’t even say what he studied.) Look here's the thing, I agree that the three of them are an awesome team and human beings, but honestly I don't see how is this going to improve society and children. If they need more social interactions, then why not investing on improving the social and emotional skills of parents, teachers and children themselves, instead of hoping that a robot teaches them how to socialize? For me it's not good enough as it doesn't solve the basic need and real problematic we're living on, and for those reasons I'm out
totally agree with you. i didnt think they would get a deal, pretty bad businessidea in my opinion. like.. how you are getting better in socialising when you are speaking to a machine. phone, tv or robot.. nothing changed, makes me wonder what on earth robert sees in it..
Their pitch wasn't perfect, but you fundamentally misunderstood the scope of this toy. The toy is a middle man between the child and the parents. For example, the demo they showed demonstrated how the toy teaches the kids discipline.
We live in a different time and era. More and more women, are a part of the work force and not so much "stay at home" mothers, anymore. Not to mention, all of the broken/single parent homes around America. Parents don't even have time to RAISE children anymore. It's unfortunate.
Gosh, those robots are incredibly cute. I'd even consider getting one for myself, if it were customizable with your own audio books or music files. I mean it's basically the cutest shaped radio ever (with voice activation) and not necessarily just a child's toy.
Everyone always hates on Barbara bc she doesn’t go in on many deals; however, if I were in this situation and heard a pitch for a product that I didn’t think would be successful or that I could help market, I wouldn’t go in either. I’m not going to put my money, time, and reputation on the line for something I don’t 100% believe in.
The guys mentioned that three million people have seen their ads. Great. But they've also only sold 2,500 units. That's one person for every 1,200 that have seen their ad(s). That's like a baseball stadium at full capacity of 50,000 selling 42 hot dogs. Not an impressive conversion.
1/1200 for a product that costs $100 is actually reasonably good ratio, and they said it themselves, they have margin of profit after including advertising costs. the comparison doesent make much sense cause a hot dog is like $3 and its not a tv add, they are already at the stadium
Awful example. If you're in a baseball stadium during the game you can't leave and if you're hungry you don't have a lot of options. A whole different thing is the open world where you need to get noticed and its very difficult to get someone to buy something out of nothing.
all that happened is that robert is investing in the team to get traction and then quickly start looking for acquisition ... now, what they should have done is go talk with a kids program creator to build a story around this and put it on youtube and have the toy as a catalyst to the program where if you had the toy it could give challenges and become interactive to the learning program the kids are watching... now , that would help with selling more toys and allow for the kids to interact with the toy in a different way
They never close this deal. This is Robert we're talking about, usually he backs up ALWAYS. Most rude shark. I don't get why people always think these deals close. This is a reality tv.
Sometimes it's not about being perfect; sometimes it's about having a strong justification and rationale for all of your decisions and having the ability to articulate that. These guys had strong answers for all of the questions that were thrown at them. Hope that it works out for them.
I think they need to add a simple led grid for each eye to simulate eye movement. It sticks to what they believe, it is cheap, and brings a lot of life to the toy.
The toy would just sit to the side with my kids. It should come with books, some type of way to visually detect the kids face to make sure the kid is looking at it, and a digital face so the kids could see it’s emotions and facial expressions. A toy that only does this I would only pay up to $35 for. But if it did all that I explained above I would consider up to $150 prob.
It would be cool if Codi could play games and move around, especially for older kids (think 5-10). Right now it’s just a speaker shaped like a cute character.
Damn, this product has so much potential if they make some changes to it. When I saw it I thought it was going to have movements to get kids physically interacting with it. if they add movements and a screen like Robert said, that’s a winner
Next to FMCG , the toy industry is the most ruthless , it needs constant fuel as money but the rewards on toy innovation is also big. Maybe if the CODI trio had stayed on course and stuck their ground of 18% -20% would have been a great advantage to CODI . But Robert the Knight came to the rescue when none existed .. basically he was investing in the future with Team CODI and their next- in - line products ,so maybe all 's well that ends well . Congratulations to Team CODI on their investment
It seems to be marketed as a companion. Instead of the stuffed animals I had growing up, this one tries to be educational. Sorry that doesn't fit your extremely narrowminded view.
Ok but what if their parents are busy at work? What if they have a single/divorced parent? Consider that if in either situation the parent(s) can’t afford a babysitter?
3 owners give up 25 percent with other investors having percentage already.... Robert is now head owner with most percentage amongst the group unless one of them has more and wasn't 25,25,25,investors other 25
If it had a screen that could be remotely turned on or off by parents ,i.e. after the cleaning task is done you earn an hour of screen time , that would be interactive
Maybe I'm completely missing it...but what does it matter if the child gets bored of it a few weeks in as long as the product is selling? It's not like they're going to need buyers to keep returning, unless to buy the outfits which aren't exactly necessary.
Love the concept, but I see some potential confusion with the name. I have a 3 year old nephew who’s really into robots right now, so I’ve been looking into kids coding toys for him and if I saw Codi I’d probably assume he would fall in that category. At the beginning of their pitch I assumed that’s where it was going
What sense does it make? A parent has to tell the robot to praise the child. Wouldn't be more meaningful if a parent praises the child himself/herself? How does this help with screen time by replacing one electronic device with another electronic device?
I like the fact that they kept fighting for it even when everyone was saying they were out and they didn't fight in a begging way either I like that cause I see a bunch of beggars on this show.
This would have worked in the 80s or 90s. Maybe 2000s. But today kids have tablets where you can play games and watch many cartoons. Sorry. It's too late...
Love watching their only accomplishments be their schooling, and how the sharks don't care. Life lesson right there. While education is important for some careers, it's not at all for others.
I see this product growing as an AI interactive robot in the future. Policing on kids using this toy doesn't help parents grow their kids learning simple obligation. This is plain and simple interactive toy worth exactly the way it should be. So what do you expect for a $100 toy only capable of what it's programmed to do so. Unless they add $$$ on it to display 3D visuals to play video using projector on toy's antenna. I wonder if teletubbies creator might sue this company in the future.
7:57 I think a lot of entrepreneurs give crazy "next year projections" because they believe their appearance in Shark Tank will give them a sales boost...
This is so cute I want them for my kids. They don't need screen time all the time. My 2 yr old is watching with me saying "me, me," because he wants one. Great idea. I think 1-3 is more ideal. 7 year old are not going to be into this.
My name is William am I'm A educator?? Scary. The proper pronunciation is I'm AN educator. It's always AN when the word starts with a vowel and sometimes H.
This product had been in China for a LONG time. What we see here is just a repackaged version. That being said, it’s a great product for kids. They didn’t say it, but it has Bluetooth funcation where you can stream music or story from other source. You can also record the content you want in the toy. Small children will love carrying it around while listening to stories and music

You really have a bad example. Price points are a thing.
Awful example. If you're in a baseball stadium during the game you can't leave and if you're hungry you don't have a lot of options. A whole different thing is the open world where you need to get noticed and its very difficult to get someone to buy something out of nothing.
all that happened is that robert is investing in the team to get traction and then quickly start looking for acquisition ... now, what they should have done is go talk with a kids program creator to build a story around this and put it on youtube and have the toy as a catalyst to the program where if you had the toy it could give challenges and become interactive to the learning program the kids are watching... now , that would help with selling more toys and allow for the kids to interact with the toy in a different way
That is actually brillant
Robert: "Wait, I'm back in."
"WHHHHHHATTTT?" Barbara exclaims, flabbergasted somebody that was out, chose to go back in. She couldn't comprehend it.
9:44 Barbara was mad she thought they all was out together 🤣
I don’t agree with all the other sharks about the product not working…it’s an amazing product.
Good that Robert did a deal
This would have been a great toy 20 years ago.
It connects to your phone so 20 years ago cellphones couldn't do that maybe 8 years ago but not 20
That's because it already came out 20 years ago lol. This is basically a ripoff of Bomberman
@@lt2003 I knew I had seen that before!!
😂😂😂😂
Agreed. This toy is garbage. They would play with it once and then be done.
9:15 robert is THE MAN
Steve Jobs, creator of Apple, said he would never let his kids use a smart phone or tablet. This would be something to try.
They need to cut their cost down to $10-15 and then sell it for $30-$40 no parent, especially in struggling households, is gonna spend $100 on this
Next to FMCG , the toy industry is the most ruthless , it needs constant fuel as money but the rewards on toy innovation is also big.
I looooove Barbara lol !!! And word around Google town is that that deal didn’t go through!! Good job Barb!
I got sick and tired of Alexa in one day. Hahahha
It is a robot babysitter. Parents should get up and TALK to their kids for crying out loud. That's what kids need. It's a toy.
the problem is kids don't like listening to their parents. they'd much rather have a cute robot friend telling them what to do.
Robert is now head owner with most percentage amongst the group unless one of them has more and wasn't 25,25,25,investors other 25
The Codi when Barbara squeezed him- “SHE’S OUT”
If it had a screen that could be remotely turned on or off by parents ,i.e. after the cleaning task is done you earn an hour of screen time , that would be interactive
Woah thats actually brilliant! So it IS a screen but earned from good behavior and chores
@@lovetownsend exactly , happy kids , happy parents

Why do people believe in this "reward" system
@@dv9239 Yeah man why do people believe in this 'reward' system? I don't wan't to work either, I want free money, housing, food, da hell
Not worth $100 only worth about $20 lol and it cost them $25 to make
@@vanpeters9751 paused to check Amazon. Its now 125$. I'm sure they're cost to make has gone below 25$ so not sure where the mark up came from
What sense does it make? A parent has to tell the robot to praise the child. Wouldn't be more meaningful if a parent praises the child himself/herself? How does this help with screen time by replacing one electronic device with another electronic device?
Man Barbara's face was to die for when Robert went in.
Barbara: Interactive robots are like the Terminator, and for that reason I’m out.
I like the fact that they kept fighting for it even when everyone was saying they were out and they didn't fight in a begging way either I like that cause I see a bunch of beggars on this show.
Robert going to give kids his own screen time. Hardware costs can be cut in half if these guys can scale.
That was a tough one props to these guys
“You’re the 3 owners talk amongst yourselves”
*stares at each other multiple times*
This would have worked in the 80s or 90s. Maybe 2000s. But today kids have tablets where you can play games and watch many cartoons. Sorry. It's too late...
Yeah well kids shouldn't be having tablets phones wct till there older but it's 2021 now now a
This toy connects with a phone so no but this toy is 10 years too late
Compared to Miko3 and Misa robot this thing is very outdated
Barbara: "I don't like interacting with people, let alone toys, and for that reason, I'm out."
Barbara: you guys graduated excellent colleges and that makes me feel stupid and for those reasons I'm out!
Thanks for upload!
Barbara looks so young. Someone in the comments told me she had a facelift at some point. What a good job they did!
I've never seen mark and kevin miss an episode from shark tank
I predict that in a few years they'll throw a screen on it too lol
1 year - nope
When Kevin went out I laughed so hard lol so much dramatic bashing of them for over a minute of sharks leaving
Barbara: I’m no longer a child and for that reason, I’m out
Barbara: I once had a boyfriend named Codi and for that reason I’m out.
Why not just be grown adults who decided to have kids engage with your kids consistently to raise future adults?!?!?
RIGHT?! Too many let technology raise their damn kids!
Mark thinking they should’ve said no:wow!
Also mark: congrats guys! Good job! 👍
Completely shocked that no sharks pushed the valuation number. Sales not worthy of value!
Love watching their only accomplishments be their schooling, and how the sharks don't care. Life lesson right there.
While education is important for some careers, it's not at all for others.
Some people value knowledge over money
@@nikhilarora4571 why to you school = knowledge?

I would have invested 500k for 20% in this company if I had 500k or if I was a shark
good for you no one asked
@@ingvarb8863 don't be an azz, the person is giving their input on the product.
thats why your not a shark and you never will be a shark. because of thinking like that.
That's probably why you don't have 500k
Why decrease though? They are willing to sell 25%. As an investor you gotta stick to your stance sometimes
As a grown adult with no kids... thats so cute
Woooo. The first guy on the right side was able to bring them in after they were all out. That's a great sales point yo
Someone fill me in. How's this product doing right now? How much they worth? How much they sold?
Google
Business is going well, product sells for $150 but sells out rather quickly so hard to get. Business valued at 2 million
Barbara: Because I woke up this morning, I’m out😂😂😂😂
Honestly, I wasn't impressed. Have to agree with Robert the form was lacking. To me, it seem like a somewhat cute toy that had a "radio" inside.
The lengths to which parents will go in order to not interact w their kids is really wild. And depressing.
Robert is a great man.
He's a capitalist swine like the rest of them.
7:57 I think a lot of entrepreneurs give crazy "next year projections" because they believe their appearance in Shark Tank will give them a sales boost...
Honestly i think it was a waste of money. It reminds me of a toy from the 80s. Teddy Ruxpin. I don't think it will be a huge seller.
Funny you say that bc Teddy Ruxpin was a HUGE selling toy
@@abeltesfaye_ yeah...... in the 80s.....
$250k in sales and you value your company at $5MILLION??? They’re insane
Today this company is worth - 20Millions
Wish all episodes were this loud
All of these guys made sure they were name brand up to the hilt with the degrees.
I assume they made a deal with Lori after the show? On their website they show her instead of Robert. lol
On every shark tank video, i directly go to comment section to enjoy jokes on Barbara. people are crazy hilarious.😂
You know what? CODI is freaking!🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love Kevin he is so funny
Freaking what?

This is so cute I want them for my kids. They don't need screen time all the time. My 2 yr old is watching with me saying "me, me," because he wants one. Great idea. I think 1-3 is more ideal. 7 year old are not going to be into this.
they should be able to connect with each other like tamagochi it would be a game changer
Thanks for the upload on this boring lonely day. 🌿🍃👍
My name is William am I'm A educator??
Scary. The proper pronunciation is I'm AN educator. It's always AN when the word starts with a vowel and sometimes H.
Great catch! God that really is scary. They’ll let anyone be “a educator” nowadays.
Barbara : Because yesterday was sunday, and today is monday. For those reason i am out...
This is a great product. I would have bought one for my kids when they were young.
Yep, 40 years ago....
Lol. Kevin like you guys need to turn around... 😁😁😁 Codi I'm OUT!
