    This is a very interesting subject I’ll be following in the chat!
    I do love your jumping style; fast, slick, low hands, imparting the rope rotation almost entirely from the wrists.
    I’m a 60-year old health coach, fitness club owner, PT, ultra open water swimmer, ex-IronMan triathlete, and I fell in love with jump roping during Covid lockdown #1; as I couldn’t train at work, got a few ropes and started jumping.
    Two years later I’ve got to the point where I’m not embarrassed by constant trip-ups, and teach all my PT and triathlete clients to jump also.
    I started immediately with a Crossrope “get lean” set.
    Being tall (6’4”) the Crossrope website suggested the XL - 9’6” ropes; they come up to my armpits and way too long you’d argue.
    I’m in two minds on this - looking at the way The Jump Rope Dudes both jump rope, it’s clear they also use long ropes.
    Having said that, I’ve put a knot in my green 1/4 lbs Crossrope, making it a good deal shorter, but it’s harder with the white 1/2lbs Crossrope rope, and impossible with my newest 1lbs grey Crossrope, all 9’6”.
    Rush Athletics is also a wonderful jump roper whose style I admire; fast, athletic and slick, though his hands are much higher than yours and he uses a lot more biceps/triceps.
    Rushi jumps with ultra long ropes and his style is elegantly effortless like you, just different.
    He jumps like Floyd Mayweather, one of several boxers (like Brian Viloria) who use very long ropes.
    None of them jump with poor form, just different.
    Looking at the archives of boxers jump roping (they all do, no surprises there!) there’s a good mix; some use shorter ropes and some have really long ones.
    I think personally I’m gradually shifting to shorter and shorter ropes, but won’t ever go as short as yours; maybe it’s also a question of the relative length of my arms, legs and torso?
    I think the question remains open! I agree most ropes are too long.
    I really wish I’d bought size “L” Crossropes ie 9-foot, but they can’t be cut or altered, for me that’s a drawback, and I believe the Crossrope website makes people buy ropes that are intrinsically too long…
    That’s why I do 90% of my skipping with Rush Athletics “Money” speed ropes and - when I want a bigger strength workout, their 400g “Legacy” weighted ropes - all fully customisable.
    Either way, you’re an amazing jump roping coach and I love your videos, so thanks!

      Appreciate it man.
      Yes Rushie is far more the boxing style, which seems to often use a longer rope....boxers tend to do a lot less skills in their jumping. They mainly stick to side swings, Criss Cross, and DU variations. They aren't doing rope releases going for maximizing speed (a shorter rope is a faster rope) and rope control. Onviously he is a very impressive jumper. I would say he is an outlier though. Most people with long ropes don't jump at his level. JRD don't. IMO they have pretty average skill sets, but that is all they have seemingly wanted to do. I believe they would.both benefit from shortening their ropes based on their form being more similar to mine.
      Not everyone needs to jump with a rope that comes up on their bellybutton, but my over arching point is that people seem to shy away from testing how short they can go. The process of doing this will force the jumper to become more aware of their form and technique making them a better jumper in the long run. Plus they will likely settle.on a rope that was shorter than they originally thought they would like. That's how it definitely worked for me. Cheers bud and thanks for watching!

    In regards to Crossrope and sizing, with their cable ropes, you are stuck with 6" size increments. Tying one knot in the 1/4 lb. rope will shorten it by 3", which is a lot, plus makes the rope unbalanced on one side. Just never been able to understand why they don't offer their ropes in smaller size increments. If I'm paying premium money for a rope, then it would be nice if I could order it more specific to my height. For this very reason alone I prefer RX ropes which offer cable sizing in 2" increments. So if sizing is all that important, then why doesn't Crossrope address this issue by offering more options to their customers? Just my thoughts! Thanks for the sizing video, it is spot on! Terry

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  2 года назад +9

      Definitely understand where you are coming from. Personally, with the 1/4 lb rope I don't notice any imbalance with a knot on one side. That wouldn't work as well with the heavier ropes, but I'm not performing skills with them so I typically don't need to knot them.
      When Crossrope started they had 3" sizing increments from 7'3" all the way to 9'9". It was a nightmare for inventory since they are all manufactured at the length for maximum durability. RX buys spools of wire and crimps them themselves to size because they are dealing with lighter ropes. When I'm doing du's with a 1, 2 or 3 lb rope, I want to know that it can handle the pressure and that it won't come apart on me.....that could kill or seriously injure someone! 😬
      Honestly, I think a lot of people could size into the shorter option with CR if they take the time to dial in their form. There will be outliers regarding this of course, but then just have an adjustable rope for your main freestyling. Remember that Crossrope is first and foremost a jump rope fitness system and not a trick rope.
      It would be awesome if they could find a way to make them more custom sized while retaining the safety for high performance with the heavy ropes though.🤙

    This is a really good conversation to have for jump ropers. My guess is the reason most people use the underarm length ratio is because it's easy to teach and remember for those starting out. I've been jumping rope in my workout routines for over 15 years now and I've found that 90% of the time my tripping up has to do with my wrists, elbows, hand placement, upper body form, etc.; rarely is it something to do with my feet or jumping.
    At 6'2", I've shortened my rope to about 8'8" from 9'0" over the last few years and that required a significant adjustment in my technique. Even a slight change in rope size, e.g. 2", can severely impact your technique--and especially tricks, such as crossovers! Two extreme examples of rope lengths and their usage are Buddy Lee and Floyd Mayweather Jr: 2 totally different techniques, outcomes, uses, training styles, etc., but both still amazing jump ropers!

      Agreed and great takeaways👍
      Universal methods are pretty much never the best option.
      Mayweather is good, but because of his rope length there are a lot of skills that he would never be able to do. Depending on your goal and what you hope to do with a rope both options can work, but not for all things. 🤙

    Picked up an elite jump beaded rope and a small crossrope. The info on site suggested kedium was the right one.

    I incorporate boxing specific rope technique into my jump rope routines. Shorter ropes work for tricks but by no means is it the only way to have good rope form. I have good rope form and use standard crossrope sizing. If i forget my ropes at home, i use the shorter one at the gym and have no problems with it. the speed is easier to ramp up, but i can still go just as fast with a longer one. The better you get, the less overall size matter. I havent tried to go taller than standard, but Floyd mayweather, valoria, a lot of elite boxers in fact jump with taller than normal ropes. Less tricks but for fitness and coordination basics, it starts tro matter less the better you get

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  Год назад +2

      Hey bud, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
      I absolutely agree to a point. I talk about good rope form with longer ropes, however, a shorter rope is going to be more effective for training at higher intensities because it can move/respond faster.
      What do you mean when you say boxing specific rope technique? Interested to hear from a boxer.
      The reason I ask is because to me jump rope is jump rope regardless of sport. Boxers tend to use a set of skills (crosses, side swings, doubles, du cross)....and imo, miss out on benefits of building speed, coordination, footwork and further stamina by not building out more skill sets. I know boxers are in incredible shape and much of their conditioning comes from their boxing training, but could they get an extra edge w/ jump rope? I think so based on how I've seen jump rope training translate to different sports in my life.
      To clarify my stance, ultimately my videos are pointing people towards optimal performance with the jump rope. All people don't want to jump at my, Buddy Lee's, Valoria's or at Floyd's level and that's fine. But it doesn't change what is optimal and I show what it took me to get to my level. A long rope will never go as fast as a short rope. There is a mechanical advantage and the circumference in which a longer vs shorter rope travels. The only way a longer rope may seem as fast is if your foot and wrist speed (athleticism/technique) is holding you back, which from my experience is from not dialing in form and technique with a shorter rope and BUILDING both of those skills. Everyone's max will be different.
      Good on you that you can pick up a shorter rope and still jump! That speaks volumes of your skill level and that is where I try to push people. Experiment with different sizes and find what works for you and if it's not getting you to the level you want.....adjust.
      Since you box - historically boxers do tend to use a longer rope. I don't know if that's because that's how it has always been taught in the boxing community or if they are trying to keep fighters hands higher so they don't get used to dropping them excessively or simply because many boxers aren't highly skilled with a rope and it's a secondary endurance builder.
      If you have thoughts I would love to hear.
      Cheers bud and keep crushing!🤙

    • @TheJumpRopePreacher
      @TheJumpRopePreacher Год назад

      @Jump 15 - Jump Rope Fitness IT basically all comes down to movement and fluidity with boxing. Footwork positions the boxer as well as propels and directs all of the boxers movement. It is an absolutely crucial element to the sport and its stressed right from the beginning of a boxers training. The jump rope lends itself to that movement and fluidity. So a boxing specific technique used when jumping roping would aim to make it easier for the boxer to be relaxed overall but ready to fluidly move while being explosive on command. Take the basic bounce. The boxer who practices his footwork on the bag, hitting mitts, sparring, doing agility drills and exercises that are boxing specific will carry over into how that boxer skips. So a pro boxer will look a lot lighter on his feet and more relaxed when jumping than an average jumper. A lot Less tense, not worried so much about speed as he would be the ability to fluidly explode sideways, forward, backward, etc, on command. A rope thats to short or uncomfortably short would hinder this fluidity and ease of movement. Skipping should be used by a boxer to keep the feet as light and as fluid as possible. Ready to move wherever is needed with the least amount of energy expended as possible. I'd personally say this is why I use a longer rope

    • @TheJumpRopePreacher
      @TheJumpRopePreacher Год назад

      @Jump 15 - Jump Rope Fitness also, if your doing insane tricks like the ones posted on this video, of course youd need a shorter rope. Your throwing it into positions that demand a quick return. But a boxer would never find his body in those positions in the ring so it's just not as important to train for

    I always found that the advice to set length of rope to under the arm was too long for me. I was unable to do any tricks. I tied two knots, and it felt better. I still need it to be a little shorter, so i will cut off a piece now.

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  6 месяцев назад +1

      Right on, keep experimenting until you find the optimal length for you and remember it may change down the line.
      My rope length without a knot is perfect for crossing skills and adding 1 (sometimes 2) knots is ideal for speed work.

    I got an adjustable jumping rope and the position it currently sits ( as shown in 2:19 ) is just below my belly button. It's the most comfortable length so far after 2 days of testing, but seems short compared to your guide. Still sometimes the rope will hit the ground slightly in front of my feet and then proceed to hit my head. (My body size is 98cm feet to waist, 80cm waist to top of head) Any suggestions? I am pretty new to this, could it be the length is fine and I simply need more practice?

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  3 месяца назад +1

      Could be that. See if your hands are drifting up or out and away when that happens.
      My rope comes up to my belly button with one knot in the rope and to the bottom of my ribs with no knot.
      If it feels good keep practicing and see if it smooths out as you learn the form at that length. If you continue having the issue, add a little length, like a 1/2 inch or so until the problem goes away.

    Bought a crossrope large when I started 3 years ago. I now feel like it’s too long and I’m thinking about dropping down to a medium. I also have a rush athletic money rope. It comes to just below my sternum and I can do crossovers no problem, same length as the CR rope length. But I’m adding about 3 inches to each side due to the clip mechanism in between the rope and handles.

      Yes. In fact, I prefer a short rope when doing doubles for time or max speed because it's more efficient.
      But remember you can make it a gradual process so you can dial in the size over time. Push yourself to go shorter so you can experience it and try it, then decide where it feels best.

    So looks to me, like, no matter where your hands are doing tricks, the rope has to strike the ground 12-18 inches in front of your toes. Once the rope strikes beyond that zone, regardless of length or form.. it's gonna be bouncing back up by the time it gets to my toes.

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  8 месяцев назад

      The big thing is to feel the rope skimp the ground or floor vs slapping it. I shoot for around 6-8 inches in front of my toes, but you can probably stretch that up to 12.

    I use a really short rope and it is about navel height. Sometimes I use a skull cap so it doesn't wisk my hair. The advantage is that it doesn't drag on the floor as much since I jump on concrete.

  • @RobertsBulgaria

    Something I'm not getting here. If I stand with one foot on the rope then, the level to the bottom of the handles is in line with my nipples. If I stand on the rope with two feet then, the same rope level comes down below my rib cage, but it is STILL the same length of rope. The difference in length level on the body is obviously longer with one foot stood on it and shorter with two feet stood on it.

    Definitely best sizing video I’ve seen. I’m 6’3 started with 9’6 CR and if I keep hands low, way too long, agreed. I can “manage” if I keep my arms high like RA, which is fine up to 1lb but I like to use 2-3-4-5 lbs as well and the 9ft is still a bit long with hands at hips. I can use a M CR 8’6 but not fully comfortable. An 8’9 would be perfect.
    Was thinking of getting RA Ignite ropes but they come in only 10ft and u have to cut to ur height which means I’d be cutting over a foot of rope which will decrease the weight of the ropes which IMO defeats the purpose. Another way I look at sizing is to look at my arms, the more bend, the more likely it’s too long. If ur arms r barely bent like you/Tori, that’s how to know ur in the right range. But everyone is different. And you are 1000% right about social media.

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  2 года назад

      I think you can become comfortable with the medium. I have moved down to sizes that I have thought were going to limit my skills and after some time working with it, have been able to incorporate all the skills I can do. It's all about dialing in that form consistency for that rope length.
      Sounds like your crushing it though🤙 keep it up!

    Actually no, quite the opposite - bad for technique and they look weird, those jump rope jump ropes with the arm fully extended and using only the wrist, which don't involve your biceps and shoulders and also look ugly, are much better like the athletic style of Floyd and Rush and also very natural - notice they use simple ropes, while those guys use some speed ropes with mechanism etc. Also, a short rope is also bad. Boxing style is the best without a doubt, I can say that with 25+ years of experience in skipping rope and 15+ years of boxing, I started when I started training table tennis when I was only 6 years old, and I still jump for every practice.
    Just look at how Rush Athletics and that girl or Floyd jump, and compare, it looks much more natural and attractive when Rush Athletics and Floyd jump, while this is more acrobatics with a rope in hand than just jumping rope. When you stretch out your arms and turn from the wrist, you look like you are, God forbid, paralyzed in your hands and you can't move them, so you only turn from the wrist :D

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  4 месяца назад

      It may be your preference, but it's not the best. Boxer style is easy. Tori could easily lengthen her rope and flow like Floyd, but it doesn't work the other way around.

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official  7 месяцев назад

      Actually yes, and that couldn't be more incorrect. Long ropes destroy form far more than short. Short demands good form. Mayweather, while good, is not the standard of jump rope. He is a pro boxer, not a pro jump rope athlete. There is nothing Mayweather can do with a jump rope that Tori or even myself can't do. There is a lot she (and I) can do that he can't do.

      @@Jump15official Hah, yea try to do what he does with same jump rope size, of course, he can do everything what you can do, but if you mean acrobation with rope throwing handles in air and then catch, that is not jumping rope technique. Hahha, you really compare that girl Tory, her athletic abilities with Floyd Mayweather and yourself with Floyd, do you know what are Floyd able to do and you cant not even dreams of?? She and you are not athlete at all, beside that, she use special speed rope, with long handles and made for purpose to ease manipulate, she is not, of course, fast and strong at all, if you give her and Floyd same rope, and you too, you will easy see how are you and her slow in compare with Floyd. Also, not to mention, that jumping rope is original boxing exercise, people start doing that from us, not otherwise, and Floyds is not only boxer who skip amazing, but so many others - Tyson, ROberto Duran, Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Roy Jones, and so on. All of them are able to do amazing things, and they are not, as you said professional jump rope athlete, they are boxer, but that can do everything which include jumping rope, but not some acrobatics what that girl does, and you want to told me that Floyd cant do that if he wanted?
      In the same way, most of the things she does are not demanding at all, every shuffle every boxer does better than her, smaller and softer, not to mention the movement, but if she thinks she's standing on her hands and then you jump over the rope, it's no longer jumping over the rope like I said but acrobatics with a rope in hand. Also dont even compare yourself with professional boxer, because boxing is by far hardest sport by ESPN, not combat sport, but sport in general, look what are that guys are able to do, and then think about yourself as profesional atlete. I will give you link to see how Roy Jones 53 yers old hitting mits, so see what is professional boxing skills demand.
