Excellent video. Thank you! A few other unique features the Ridgeline has are that were not mentioned in the video; 1. The truck has 'two' rear-view cameras. One on the tailgate and one on the righthand side minor (extremely helpful), 2. The spare tire is on a sliding tray in the trunk. It's super easy to retrieve and the tire stays clean. Other trucks make you crawl under them in the muck to retrieve the spare. 3. It has more safety features than any other truck.. Too many to list, but well worth checking out. The truck is so safe my insurance only went up $17 when I moved from a twelve year old Jeep to the brand new Ridgeline. 4. It has an ingenious cap-less fuel filler pipe. No cap to bother with. 5. The truck is a front wheel drive truck; the only one on the market. This gives it excellent handling on skittish roads. You can of course dial in all wheel drive any time if you buy one with that.. 6. The truck has four wheel independent suspension and unibody construction.. The only truck on the market with these features. These combine to give the truck an outstanding ride and incomparable handling. 7. No truck on the market is as quiet and comfortable to ride in. The ride is more like a luxury SUV than a truck. 8. It is by far the easiest mid-size truck to get in and out of for the driver and front passenger. The front door openings are larger than any other mid-size truck. I am too tall to get into the other mid-size trucks without kinking my neck severely to get through the door opening. But the Ridgeline ,,, no problem. We've had our 2019 Ridgeline for 6 months. No problems at all with it. We are as pleased with it as the day we bought it.
This truck will do what 90% of people use their truck for. Most never come close to using a half tons capability. Not my cup of tea, but love the features like the lockable storage under the bed with the drain plug. Great ride, decent towing and hauling capabilities.
Glad you like it. Great for getting groceries and tossing a few bags of mulch in the back from Walmart. But, 'truck?' LMAO. Hardly. But it does get truck-like gas mileage in real world testing.
I’ve been tuning in to your videos for several years and I can tell you brother, you’ve gotten to be MUCH better. Professional videography, audio and narration. Great review man!
Owned a 1st gen Ridgeline (2006).. put almost 300k miles on still ran like new. Only tires .. oil changes and 1 set of brakes the entire time I owned it. Absolutely awesome product. Thinking about getting a new one
I got a 19 rtle back in august. If I were you now, I'd wait for the next generation. There's nothing wrong with the current model just the small things that you probably already read about such as narrow rear door opening and no tailgate lock. Imo, the ground clearance could've been a tad higher, but I'm good with it. It's a dream to drive and I had a Tacoma and Titan prior to the RL. Good luck.
I have a 2012 RTL and did test drive the 2019 RTL-E and black edition. They drive so much better than my 2012. I'm thinking about getting a new one as well.
@@squidusn71 There's an easy fix for the rear doors (you can use the front door parts in the back and get them to open to a reasonable angle, takes about an hour and $25) and Honda has an OEM tailgate lock available now (there are also aftermarket options). Should've been designed with these to begin with though!
Nice to be able to lock your golf bags away in the box storage area, or, for tradespeople to store their tools, etc. Such a great idea! The power outlet should be in there too. A very interesting truck. Thanks for all your great work, Joe Raiti.
I've had my BE for 4 months and really like it. I had owned two Tundras in the preceding 8 years and they were great trucks, but they were just much larger and more thirsty than what I needed. This Ridgeline is really the best of both worlds for someone who doesn't really need a huge truck. The ride, mileage, and tech are vastly better. Enjoy your new ride.
As a former owner of a 2007 Ridgeline from Tampa Honda and the current owner of a 2018 RTL-E, this is an excellent truck. Yes Raiti, i absolutely thought the same thing about the mirrors questioning why they didn't put an LED strip there for turn signals. From my experience with the Ridgeline, I can say there you will have faith the truck will go where you want it to go no matter the weather here in Tampa. I have friends who think i drive a bit "crazier" when the roads are wet, but what they are witnessing is that it will not slip, slide, spin (unless you really really want it to) on our wet roads. Punch the accelerator on a wet street in a Ridgeline AWD and you will go. The computer is brilliant at using Torque Vectoring to put power to the wheel that needs it for the situation it is reading. Don't forget to mention that with the trim levels that have the navigation screen, you also have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto use via the USB port under the infotainment cluster. And as for the rear doors, we have discovered a "hack" where you can order the door stops from the front doors and install them in the rear doors to give you another few inches of opening for your passengers or trying to put those boxes in the rear seating area. It's a blast to fire up Truck Audio while working outside on the yard and that will work with whatever input, radio, phone, you could even go radical with tailgating with a TV having it's audio route thru the bed speakers. If you are considering a midsize truck and don't plan on taking it to some rock crawling mountain, give the Ridgeline a test drive before you make your final decision. Enjoy!!!
Thomas, it’s two years later, but I am looking at a used 2019 Ridgeline. My only zonk is the rear door opening but I saw your “hack” comment. Where did you get the hinges and can they be had in the exact paint color? Did you install them yourself? And do you remember the cost? Thank you.
Its a suv with a bed and its not a gas hog like the full size trucks, everybody don’t need a big ass crew cab that will brake the bank with payments and at the pumps, probably 75 percent don’t even need or can afford those trucks, just trying to keep up with the joneses
That’s like saying you want a Jeep without 4x4. What is the point of that? Hamburger without the meat. Pizza without the cheese. Taco without the crispy shell. No point.
@@funkmonster not everyone would want to drive or own a jeep 4x4 or 2wd. Some people are lactose intolerant, so no cheese pizza. There are soft tacos as well and vegan burgers lol. The point you're missing is, not everyone has the same NEEDS. Not everyone goes 4wheeling but you see lifted, big tire, with aftermarket wheels on 4x4 jeeps and trucks that are nothing but pavement princesses because the owner just wanted the looks. You see shiny unmolested trucks everywhere with empty bed and not towing, unless you're stuck under a rock, never owned a vehicle, or never possessed a driver's license.
Squid Usn but then if you don’t want a 4x4 then why buy a Jeep? If you don’t want to haul stuff, why buy a truck. There are hundreds of cars and crossover vehicles that one could buy if they don’t want to do those heavy duty things. To buy a truck intended for soccer momming just seems odd to me. Pick the right vehicle for your needs, I agree. Which means, don’t buy a truck if you don’t need one. Buy a Honda Civic. If you want more room and the ability to haul stuff buy a Honda Pilot. If you want to go off-road buy a Jeep or a Tacoma. There’s a car for everything and everybody.
Exactly! I've never understood why people are so offended by the Ridgeline. Is it a macho thing? Like they're afraid no one will think they have a gigantic penis cuz they don't drive a big jacked up truck.
I have been driving my 2018 Ridgeline for about 9 months. I love it more than I did when I decided to purchase it. The Lane Keep Assist and the Adaptive Cruise Control features are wonderful. Just drove the truck on vacation, 10+ hours. When we got there I still had plenty of energy left to explore the beach, restaurant and Walmart. I have the Black Edition and the gas mileage is lower than the 2WD, but I averaged 22.8 mpg doing the math (the dash said 24.2). A real pleasure to drive. The only complaint I can come up with, is the wheelbase. I often find it difficult to drop it in a parking spot without a second try. Could be me. The trunk is HUGE! Plus with the back seats up I had plenty of room for all the crap we brought back. Tried out the "Sand" button on the console. Immediate pull like 4wheel low in my old pickup. I pushed the button while approaching the construction, and BOOM - pulling like an OX. Got through the sand and switched back and bang smooth sailing right now. I haven't figured out the 4 button on the shifter itself yet. Haven't had the guts to try the automatic parallel parking feature either. The monthly payment very conducive to "buyer's remorse" -- but I tell you folks, I have none. 2 thumbs up!!
My mom and dad purchased one the other day, I drove it yesterday and was very impressed with the smooth ride! It is actually a pretty nice truck. I always say buy a truck for your needs not your wants. Pop takes his little trailer to the dump once a month and this truck will do that and tote him in luxury at the same time. Good review man.
Rides like a Cadillac drives like a sports car. Best vehicle I ever owned. Excellent appointments inside just as nice as any lux SUV. I drive it everywhere including off road. Pull my bass boat , put my dirt bike in back. The bed is already totally protected stock and the tow package is stock. Nothing better period ! A joy to drive and use every day. You missed the built in dog bowls in the back doors...water tight too ! I get 29 to 30 mpg on highway too!
I agree! I’ve always had big trucks. However 2019 I took another approach. Needless to say this year I purchased a Honda Ridgeline and to be honest I love this truck. It’s rides and drives like a sports car and has the lizard of an SUV. My fiancé love my ride so much she bought a 2019 Pilot and honestly you can’t tell the difference in the way they ride.
LOL. " For all the tree-hugging fans out there". Another great thorough review. Keep up the great work Thank you for making these videos. Excellent truck.
I probably would have never checked out this truck. Who would have guessed Honda would have all those pretty cool features, that would really separate it from the others. If I was a city trucker, this is something I’d definitely look at. I really like it, but it doesn’t suit my needs. Thanks for doing a great review on this vehicle.
I am so glad that you liked this one! I totally feel the same way. Sometimes it is great to learn about vehicles you would never even think to look at!
Have a 2011 Ridgeline. Awesome truck and i hauled a 20-foot 3500lb boat all across the Northeast for over 7 years! *Great job on this video on the comparison. They are two different types of trucks for use. Honda could have have the best small truck if they would only square off the newer versions front and make it look a little more beefy instead of bullet shaped. It has everything you want for outdoor sporting, landscaping needs, great for tailgating, Etc...
Owners can make an easy/inexpensive modification to the rear door stop to allow the rear doors to open further, providing easier entry/exit to the second row. Certainly something Honda should have done in the first place!! Thank you for the great, informative review of the vehicle that is so often called "not a truck." I have owned both generations of the Ridgeline.
Had a 2017 RTL-E , AC would never get comfortable on a 85+ day, took in many times, never repaired. I really enjoyed it in the cooler weather, very comfortable on a trip, great mileage. Traded it for a 2018 Tundra Platinum, AC works great!!!!
Jake Rheault ..I got rid of an 2007 tundra for the ridge line, wanted to downsize. I loved the ridgeline, a lot of people made fun that it want a real truck. But the new 18 tundra I bought is very updated since my 2007. I think the adaptive cruise works better than the ridgeline. It has blind spot, lane keep, ped detection, automatic braking. I miss the fuel economy of the Honda. BUT the the automatic air is very superior to the Honda. I agree it’s dated , but it has no problems, and the engine is very powerful, only telling all this in case your wondering why I went back to Toyota. I checked out the f150, it was 11,000 more dollars. The gm midsize twins very uncomfortable. I hope the all new 2021 tundra will be great, we will see.
My favorite colors, red exterior with tan interior! Beautiful! Make the back doors open wider, put volume and tuning KNOBS on the radio, get rid of the hood strut then you almost have the perfect daily driver. I'm waiting to buy to see if Honda will make those changes.
There are different videos on YT showing how to change out the rear door stoppers . "Honda Ridgeline door hacks" . You can replace them with front door stoppers.
People badmouth Honda all the time. After they drive one they buy one! After they buy one they can't stop saying good things about them. This isn't a truck for a major contractor but it is a good truck for the average guy and meets the needs of most people. Special note for those who live in cold climates - AWD is better than 4X4 because you don't need to switch it on and off at every single intersection in the winter. When it detects front wheel spin the rear wheels kick in. That was my biggest truck complaint with 4X4 trucks (can't have it in 4X4 on pavement unless its covered in snow or will cause damage to the vehicle. Its right in the manual of every 4X4 Ford, Toyota, GM, Dodge)
It's got the rear independent suspension. The only truck I saw that was 10 years ago when I went to the auto show and saw a Corvette truck. That hat and independent suspension also in the back.
I find it odd that the Canadian version of the 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E AWD (2019 Ridgeline Touring) has heater and cooled seats, with heated rear seats. I understand the Canadian version having Heated seats, but why does it have the cooled front seat option, and the US version doesn't. I am pretty sure Canada doesn't gets hotter than the lower half of the US. Just do not understand the logic.
Tom Vance Canadian Honda’s have always had more features even our CRV has a Panoramic sunroof on touring trims. Honda is pretty big in Canada the civic is the best selling car in Canada for over 22 years no one even comes close in sales not even the Corolla
That is correct Tom. It is very unfortunate, they also get power folding mirrors, cool ventilated seats I bet they probably get wireless phone charging as well.
Another item the Canadian version gets that I have not see mentioned here is the digital control panel in the back seat area for controlling the back seat climate system. I think that is nice so the back passengers do not have to ask the driver to adjust their climate settings. That is why the US model has that small self in the back of the console below the air vents, that is where the control panel goes. Also I have seen several reviewers talk about the small shelf between the heated seat controls in the front. That is the place for the optional CD player, which I think is expensive at around $300 USD. I really wish we could have these items available in the US, in the top trims or at least as an option like the CD player we can get.
bought mine on 9/19/19. 200 miles and going strong. Really like it so far after driving a Ram 1500 for 15 years. Looking for a little less truck and a little more comfort for my old bones. Also, all the new trucks from the big three have the stupid auto-stop feature that is a pain in the butt to turn off. Not yet for Honda but rumor is that all cars in the USA after 2020 will have that stupid requirement.
Also for some reason the Canadian version had ventilated seats, heated rear seats, mirror blinkers, heated windshield wiper area, etc. idk why the states got screwed
Excellent video Joe! When you lifted the cover for the storage area in the truck bed I could see some slots that look like you can slide dividers into to help keep small stuff from rolling around which is a very good idea from Honda. I like the truck but there was not enough driver's seat leg room for my ostrich length legs compared to my Subaru Outback and I had to give it a zonk for that. Is the giant plastic cover over the engine placed there to help reduce engine noise or is it for another reason?
Thanks Mark for taking the time to watch! You hit on some very good points! You are correct that it is there for engine noise! I appreciate the insight!
I hardly ever see one of these. I like the tailgate and the under bed storage but I’m with you on the armrests. They would get me “jacked up” too. Nice truck for an urban cowboy who does occasional hauling. Nice video Joe!👍🏻👍🏻
@@paulm6481 can't make enough? They sold less than 15,000 units in 2018 and sales were down 19% from the year before. They ain't keeping up with demand cause there is none. If there were demand, Honda would do what is necessary to fulfill customers needs by ramping up production. If they don't, customers start looking elsewhere which it looks like they already have. Take the new Ranger plant for example. They're working loads of OT on just one shift to do what they can to build what they can for demand while hiring a whole shift to ramp up production even further.
@@paulm6481 how about you look it up on Google. The RS engine issue wasn't every RS built first of all and it was caused by putting the Ecoboost Mustang head gasket on it. That's it. Also, just cause the displacement is 2.3L doesn't mean it's the same exact engine found in the RS and Mustang and it just being detuned. Good try though.
This is the truck I want the most. Could easily add a turbocharger or supercharger along with an ECU tune. The manual transmission Toyota Tacoma is a distant second; the Tacoma’s lack of handling, road comfort, and MPG zonks are just too big to ignore.
TFL Truck took this off-roading a couple years back and it was the first one out due to the transmission over-heating. BTW, the 2 trucks that made it to the top were the Frontier and the Tacoma. It does have some cool features like the tailgate and the trunk!
Tacoma is good for smaller people. I'm 6.1 and sitting in new tacoma's driver's seat, my head was touching the roof, cabin so small compared to ridgeline.
The Ridgeline was never intended for extreme offroad use and to include it in that test was a mistake on TFLs part. Maybe they should run the Tacoma on the racetrack with a Civic Type R and see how that goes.
TFL Trucks made a 2nd video of the Ridgeline making it up Gold Mine Hill with no transmission overheating problems . Different driver = different results ,it's as simple as that . People don't buy Ridgelines for off road use , but it's good to know they can go off road (gold mine hill). For anyone else that cares, Dave Erickson @ Everyman Driver takes a 1st Gen & 2nd Gen (generation) Ridgeline for a off road test drive .
1. Did you notice if there is footwell lighting? 2. How is the sound from the speakers? 3.Does it have a backup cam? I had the 1st gen of the Ridgeline, loved it. Thanks for sharing!
just purchased one a few weeks ago . love it 18 to 25 mpg, v6 handles it well . almost bought a 2500 dodge . love dodge but could not get passed the fact that for me .just how much would i need this much power , So stopped at the Honda dealer and a test drive later Iam an owner . RTL around 35,000 . the ride sells it as well .
picked up a 2018 one in dec and it fulfills all my requirements. i specifically did not get a 4wd due driving on almost completely paved roads in southern california and this vehicle's 4wd capability is considered one of the weaker ones in this segment. as low voltage installer, i do not tow anything heavy and i rarely load up the vehicle to it's max weight capacity. it has more than enough room to fit all my ladders/tools/equipment and i love having my large collection of drill bits being stored in the trunk. all in all, it does everything i require it to do. not being a "true truck" is completely irrelevant in my situation
This new generation doesn't come with 4wd. It's intelligent AWD, huge difference. It has it's limits just like any other vehicles. I think a well informed buyer woudnt buy something weak if a strong one is needed.
Interesting, this truck looks like what I need but, I'll have to test drive other trucks and see what they feel like. However that interior and exterior color looks amazing.
Replace the door checkers with Pilot door checkers, and your back door issue is resolved! I just bought a Black Edition and insisted on that change at the dealership.
I was in one of these at the Autoshow and kept turning up the radio, because I couldn't hear it very well. Then someone came running over and turned it down. It was playing through the bed's speakers! I had it up as far as it could go!
I had the 07 Ridgeline and loved it. 155,000 miles and was waiting for a larger engine to go along with my new camper. I was towing the 5000 lb camper but just needed more power. The new Ridgeline came out and same engine with a upgraded transmission. I let my Ridgeline go for a Toyota Tundra Crewmax iforce 4x4. I do miss the swing tailgate and trunk but loving the power and easy towing now with the Tundra.
It rides like a luxury car\SUV. Very quite, can't hear cars passing. Very nice interior and very comfortable. Lots of space with the rear-seat up. I wish the front sensor would work to sense cars in front when parking. Even better if it had a front camera. I kind-a wish it had the 9-speed but guess the 6-speed is more reliable. I wish it had an heads-up display. Recommend it for families and home-owners. It is not made for serious off-road. I don't know how it would hold up for heavy everday construction use. Might be better with a body-on-frame. For me, Perfect!! Black 2019 RTL-E
Thank you for everything you gave on info you provided on the Honda Ridgeline over the years and Shelby American cars also great work god bless you and family Amen
Very nice pickup overall.. VERY nice steering wheel.. but the dashboard has the same problem as the Pilot's.. I wish Honda would have made a more traditional dashboard/gauge cluster... like more manual controls and oversized nobs on the dash.. To use the touchscreen you have to take your eyes off the road to use - just good old manual, simple to use controls (like oversize knobs) would have been soooo much better (and safer). At least Honda kept the very nice console shifter (instead of the terrible push button shifter in the Pilot/Passport).. and adding a traditional dial type speedometer (instead of digital) would have made this a great pickup truck..
My complaint, although it is a minor one, is with the fact that there is no actual volume knob. It is irritating to me that Honda is heading that way across the board.
“ If your not a truck guy you don’t need a dually, a 4x4, a lifted truck, the truck from The Fall Guy, the van from the A-Team” lol. Just added those last 2 😝
The Ridgeline is a solid light duty truck. I test drove one recently and it drove like a dream and had plenty of kick to it. Very well designed. Personally I need a truck that tows more than the Ridgeline but if I didn't, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Also, I would love to see Honda engineers build something comparable to Toyota's Tundra. That would be a killer!
WOULD be a comfortable & practical work car.....my only disappointment is it's not available in right hand drive for Australia....im not looking for 4x4...I hardly used my Navara off road.
Ray Garduque I have a 2015 Escape with the 2.0L ecoboost, and while it is pretty preppy for what it is, I by no means think its the fastest thing in the world or that I’m saving any more gas than I would with a v8 lol. They are torquey little motors, but they are only about on par with most 6 cylinders today, and a v8 is still the best option if you want more power and torque.
@@coytus94 Mighty honest of you Josh. It will be interesting where things go..... v8 with electric assist for city driving improvements and stealth hunting mode? lol.
i owned 2010..get some great mpg's..wish i had a little more horses under the hood..and better trans for towing package..and the under truck storage is awesome..with the swing tailgate...thinking of buying a 2019 and the back doors should open wider
When you're negotiating price, make them "throw in" the back door fix for free. I did that when I bought mine about a month ago, and am glad I did. It takes less than an hour in the service bay to do.
Love my 2019 RTL-E. I have to disagree with you on the armrests. I got used to them in my wife's old CRV and haven't found a console I like as well since.
Hey there Raidi! Just sent a video on the Ridgeline from another RUclipsr. The rear doors of the Ridgeline will open wider. All you need is a set of door hinges that are for the front doors! The open nearly to 90 degrees. They will bolt directly to rear seat doors and have clearance to improve the opening width. Can do this modification for about $25, if I remember correctly.
Honda has been improving year after year with their trucks ...A good buy. ...With what most truckers want 6.6....fast little sucker....42K.loaded...👍..well thought out inside.....Good job Honda...steering wheel Heater Decent MPH....Buy It..no one will ask why...
I traded in my 2018 RTL-T for a 2020 RTL the other night because this is the greatest truck available if you don't need to tow a trailer or heavy offroading.
You cannot plug anything you want into the bed outlet HAHA. That receptacle is rated at 150 watts! Microwaves, rated no less than 800 watts! A blender, around 800 watts. Power tools, 400 watts and above. Home stereo, 100 watts... that's what it's for.
I have a 19 RTLE too. Wish it had those turn signals on mirrors, real leather, automatic wipers, and cooled seats for the money. Other than that, lol, I love mine. Rides better than my lexus.
Ridgeline is excellent. I've been driving one for 2 weeks and I love it. I'm a chevy guy but currently own a Ram 2500. The Ridgeline is the nicest and smoothest ride I've ever experienced. With that said.....I would take my 2500 for any real work. I can tow 10000# with the Ram and much bigger payload. But when the Ram is not needed, the Ridgeline fits the bill. Speaking of bill, it is quite expensive. The one other thing I dont like is rear legroom. This truck is perfect as a company truck for a salesman or something like that. Or for a city guy that wants something different. I only get to keep mine for 2 more weeks. Next truck for me is a full size GMC. Going back to my roots.
Thanks for such a detailed & informative review. I am tiring of lugging mulch, etc in the trunk of my Lexus or squeezing stuff into the Civic. I want a quiet, comfortable interior w/a drive that is more like an car than a truck. I wasn't sure if I needed a truck / suv. until seeing your video! And, thanks to the comments below, the only off-putting feature I noticed can be resolved: install front door stops on the back doors to allow for wider opening. Kudos to Honda for bringing a vehicle to market that meets the needs of folks like myself!
It may be a year or two but I may replace my “11 Element with this. I don’t need a giant pickup. Just something to throw bicycles in or personal stuff during the next hurricane evacuation. I do like the cooler in the back with the drain plug at the bottom.
I'm going to zonk it for the water/moisture I seen in the trunk when you opened it. I thought this was a water tight trunk. I do like the ridgeline for what it is. A crossover truck.
I just wish the front didn't look like the Odyssey...more aggressive or more "truck" like and I think it'd be perfect. The front end is just too passive
Unfortunately, like all trucks, there is too much undercarriage drag-reducing the MPG. That and I won't buy one unless it has the new opposed-piston engines that are already tested to work and get 30+ MPG.
Indiana DIY what undercarriage drag? I have yet to find a con on the 2019 ridge line, well maybe one that it’s acceleration response could be better, but other than that I’d say it beats all other trucks in its year.
Better than a Chevy, GMC, Dodge? Apples and oranges....the Ridgeline is essentially a minivan with an exposed ass-end chopped off. This thing cannot in any parallel universe be considered or compared to a truck. The comment comparing the Ridgeline to trucks shows the level of automotive ignorance of the average buyer.
It’s a great truck provided you don’t have unrealistic expectations of a unibody based vehicle. If you want/need extraordinary towing ability, and off road prowess, you need a body on frame based truck.Realistically, this is perfect for most peoples needs.
Nice review. I always hated these girly rides but as you need less and less and get older I can see a big niche for these. It's nice to show a 1500 or 150 PU next to these as they appear toy-like in size but actually they are not. A good vehicle for the person that needs to carry a few bigger things once in awhile and wants better mpg's .
Saying the Ridgeline is not a "real truck" because of its unibody construction is not a valid argument. It is not the same as a typical passenger car unibody. It has a frame like a traditional BOF truck, but instead of being bolted on, it is integrated with the body. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is also unibody. The RL is an unconventional truck, but it is practical for most truck buyers.
I prefer the look of the Tacoma but the Ridgeline seems to have all the bells and whistles, more than enough to haul my bricks and mulch from Home depot or my kayak.
And so do we ranchers- I have a Ridgeline working on a cattle ranch in central Washington. Try it. You might like it. The Achilles heel of this truck is the ground clearance- too low as it will get buried in extra deep snow. It's best design feature is the AWD-, especially beneficial on a typical mid-size working truck. Handles typical mud and snow as well as a Tacoma with a minimum of fuss. The cross- country comfort and rideability is a bonus. I like the Ridgeline because I didn't have to purchase 2 vehicles (Truck/ SUV).
@skankhunt42 I own the ranch. I own a Ridgeline. I also own a '87 F-150. Not 4WD, though. That real truck can get stuck in the wet pasture when the irrigation water puddles - the minivan Ridgeline doesn't.
@skankhunt42 - Something tells me you prefer skanks. Ask any real man if they like skanks and they will say, no thanks. But I guess skanks need love too, so props to you for that.
Compared to other trucks It can’t really tow, it can’t really haul, it can’t really off-road. It’s a truck for people that like the idea of a truck, without having an actual, capable truck.
Excellent video. Thank you!
A few other unique features the Ridgeline has are that were not mentioned in the video;
1. The truck has 'two' rear-view cameras. One on the tailgate and one on the righthand side minor (extremely helpful),
Dude...why did you have to go and do that. You screwed me out of 40k
This truck will do what 90% of people use their truck for. Most never come close to using a half tons capability. Not my cup of tea, but love the features like the lockable storage under the bed with the drain plug. Great ride, decent towing and hauling capabilities.
Bought a 2019 ridgeline a month ago and love it! To the ones that say it’s not a real truck, who cares what you think 😜 It’s perfect for my use.
Congrats! Thank you for sharing that with us!
I have a Ram 1500 and love it but I can't wait to get a Ridgeline.
Thanks for sharing that!
Truth the new Hate speech I heard there was a recall for the 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline. just be careful and safe.
Thanks Greg! That really means a lot!
Owned a 1st gen Ridgeline (2006).. put almost 300k miles on still ran like new. Only tires .. oil changes and 1 set of brakes the entire time I owned it. Absolutely awesome product. Thinking about getting a new one
Thanks for sharing that awesome ownership experience!
Good luck.
timing belts?
Thanks for all your great work, Joe Raiti.
bought a 14 a year ago for my wife, liked it so much, i traded in my ram for a 19 a couple days ago. no regrets.
Congrats! They are really great trucks!
Great review. Loved the honesty of pointing out the features that you didn't like rather than just pointing out what you liked.
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
Just got a black edition a few days ago, less than 100 miles in but I love it so far!
Congrats Jon! It has some great features!
Enjoy!!!
Great points Thomas!
All valid points Thomas. I agree.
Thomas, it’s two years later, but I am looking at a used 2019 Ridgeline. My only zonk is the rear door opening but I saw your “hack” comment. Where did you get the hinges and can they be had in the exact paint color? Did you install them yourself? And do you remember the cost? Thank you.
Your reviews are a joy to watch. Thank You! 🤠
That really means a lot!
Its a suv with a bed and its not a gas hog like the full size trucks, everybody don’t need a big ass crew cab that will brake the bank with payments and at the pumps, probably 75 percent don’t even need or can afford those trucks, just trying to keep up with the joneses
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and input!
Lol midsized trucks are close to 40 grand that's not cheap either😂
We just purchased a 2019 Ridgeline top of the line. We love this pick-up.
Congrats Maria!
I like the infortainment display, storage spaces & how the tailgate opens two different ways!
Those are some great things that you mentioned Greg! Thank you!
Best truck for people looking for a practical vehicle without the stereotypical truck image.
That is a good point Michael!
Thank you David for sharing your great ownership experience!
The button on the shifter locks you into drive 4 , great for going down long hills and riding the brakes.
Looking at buy a 2019 this week...used. Great review. Thank you. Helped solidify my decision.
That is really awesome to hear!
Thanks for sharing your input from your ownership on the Ridgeline! I am glad you are getting plenty of smiles per miles.
@@bltodd578 there's water bowls for the dogs back there??
dl 7 there is place for you to even swim!
Cool we could see the digital speedometer during acceleration .Good presentation.
Thanks Robert for taking the time to say that!
Thank you for always go over the Honda Ridgeline and pilot and keep us posted God bless you and your family
That is a very good point!
Had a 2017 RTL-E , AC would never get comfortable on a 85+ day, took in many times, never repaired. I really enjoyed it in the cooler weather, very comfortable on a trip, great mileage. Traded it for a 2018 Tundra Platinum, AC works great!!!!
A Tundra 😂🤣 . They are so old they last time they did a major update was 10 years ago at least
Thanks for your input and perspective! I appreciate you watching!
There are different videos on YT showing how to change out the rear door stoppers . "Honda Ridgeline door hacks" . You can replace them with front door stoppers.
Agreed. Also, at least 3 more inches of ground clearance.
True I'm thinking on getting one but I heard rumors of peddal problems issues too hard pedals
It's got the rear independent suspension. The only truck I saw that was 10 years ago when I went to the auto show and saw a Corvette truck. That hat and independent suspension also in the back.
That is very interesting! Thank you for sharing that info!
My first used pickup truck!! Good job Joe.
I like your style.
Very detailed with a bit of humour. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ray that really means a lot!
Honda can make anything, Motorcycle, Car, Engine, Truck pickup and etc
What’s next a helicopter? Lol
I dunno
I find it odd that the Canadian version of the 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E AWD (2019 Ridgeline Touring) has heater and cooled seats, with heated rear seats. I understand the Canadian version having Heated seats, but why does it have the cooled front seat option, and the US version doesn't. I am pretty sure Canada doesn't gets hotter than the lower half of the US. Just do not understand the logic.
Honda does that with other models as well Tom. It is really frustrating!
My son said the same thing. He iwasan engineer at HMA in Birmingham, and drove a Canadian truck for a year.
We always get shafted with these options. It is the same thing on other Honda products as well!
You get the cheap gas and your still not happy!
That tailgate is genius!
AGREED!
Very good points brother!
That is some very interesting info Paul! Thanks you for sharing that and for watching!
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
TFL Truck took this off-roading a couple years back and it was the first one out due to the transmission over-heating. BTW, the 2 trucks that made it to the top were the Frontier and the Tacoma. It does have some cool features like the tailgate and the trunk!
Yeah this thing is not for that terrain for sure!
Tacoma is good for smaller people. I'm 6.1 and sitting in new tacoma's driver's seat, my head was touching the roof, cabin so small compared to ridgeline.
That is a great point to bring up!
Kevin H yes, great if u have premium audio (don’t know about base version, and yes it does have backup cam
1.Yes
2.Didn't try but I know they are the usual Honda setup.
3.Yes
Thanks for the assist!
Backup cameras are mandated by federal law for all vehicles built after May 2018 in the USA.
Best over-all review of any vehicle - and with humor. Wonderful job especially if you are new to Honda and a Ridgeline.
just purchased one a few weeks ago . love it 18 to 25 mpg, v6 handles it well . almost bought a 2500 dodge . love dodge but could not get passed the fact that for me .just how much would i need this much power , So stopped at the Honda dealer and a test drive later Iam an owner . RTL around 35,000 . the ride sells it as well .
Congrats on your new truck! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
picked up a 2018 one in dec and it fulfills all my requirements. i specifically did not get a 4wd due driving on almost completely paved roads in southern california and this vehicle's 4wd capability is considered one of the weaker ones in this segment. as low voltage installer, i do not tow anything heavy and i rarely load up the vehicle to it's max weight capacity. it has more than enough room to fit all my ladders/tools/equipment and i love having my large collection of drill bits being stored in the trunk. all in all, it does everything i require it to do. not being a "true truck" is completely irrelevant in my situation
Congrats on your new truck! I really appreciate sharing your input based off of your experience!
I highly recommend taking one for a spin. It drives very nicely.
I actually prefer the hood prop. Struts go bad and that is one less thing I would have to replace.
Replace the door checkers with Pilot door checkers, and your back door issue is resolved! I just bought a Black Edition and insisted on that change at the dealership.
Very good points Sam! Thanks for sharing!
I didn’t know you could do that
I was in one of these at the Autoshow and kept turning up the radio, because I couldn't hear it very well.
Thank you so much for sharing that great input! I really appreciate it!
Nevermind that your mpg dropped by half. Tundras are a good truck but they sure are thirsty.
Bet they'd sell a ton if they lowered it a little and said its their version of the Holden Maloo and Chevy El Camino.
I think you may be on to something!
Thanks for sharing that input as an owner!
Thank you for everything you gave on info you provided on the Honda Ridgeline over the years and Shelby American cars also great work god bless you and family Amen
Check latest IIHS small overlap test - it has good performance. And lights are exceptional
That hatch with the drain in the bed is perfect for storing my beer
Don't forget the back speakers and you can watch Netflix and RUclips in the console menu

My complaint, although it is a minor one, is with the fact that there is no actual volume knob. It is irritating to me that Honda is heading that way across the board.
This makes the lower trim levels more appealing.
Crv has knob now
“ If your not a truck guy you don’t need a dually, a 4x4, a lifted truck, the truck from The Fall Guy, the van from the A-Team” lol. Just added those last 2 😝
I like what you did there Keon!
I totally get where you are coming from! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
If Honda built a body on frame truck, it would dominate.
WOULD be a comfortable & practical work car.....my only disappointment is it's not available in right hand drive for Australia....im not looking for 4x4...I hardly used my Navara off road.
Very good points!
I prefer Hondas 3.5L v6 compared to Ford Rangers I4 turbo. The mpg from the Ford is not impressive.
It will be interesting where things go..... v8 with electric assist for city driving improvements and stealth hunting mode? lol.
i owned 2010..get some great mpg's..wish i had a little more horses under the hood..and better trans for towing package..and the under truck storage is awesome..with the swing tailgate...thinking of buying a 2019
and the back doors should open wider
I appreciate you sharing your input and perspective! Thank you so much for watching!!
You can buy a mod kit from Honda to allow the rear doors to open wider. There's a video on RUclips on how to do it and the part numbers.
Thanks for sharing your input as an owner!
Thanks for that great info Bret!
Loved this video. It sounds like a great truck and was amazed on his honesty of the pro's and cons...I'm sold
Thanks for saying that and letting me share it with you!
you could have a tailgate party like no other, us Canadians need to start tailgating . great video.
Come on down and party with us! What part of Canada are you from?
Honda has been improving year after year with their trucks ...A good buy. ...With what most truckers want
6.6....fast little sucker....42K.loaded...👍..well thought out inside.....Good job Honda...steering wheel Heater
Decent MPH....Buy It..no one will ask why...
I really enjoyed your points on this one!
Raiti's Rides I could have praised a lot more...but then they would think I worked for Honda...lol
Or getting paid under the table
I traded in my 2018 RTL-T for a 2020 RTL the other night because this is the greatest truck available if you don't need to tow a trailer or heavy offroading.
That is awesome Jim!
You cannot plug anything you want into the bed outlet HAHA. That receptacle is rated at 150 watts! Microwaves, rated no less than 800 watts! A blender, around 800 watts. Power tools, 400 watts and above. Home stereo, 100 watts... that's what it's for.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and input! I really appreciate you watching!
What i was thinking 🤔
It's 150 watts with the engine off and 400 watts with the engine running.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Kudos to Honda for bringing a vehicle to market that meets the needs of folks like myself!
if you need a truck, but bought a ridgeline, then you still need a truck
Not super pretty but I really love all the accessories and how party usable it is.
It does have a lot of versatile uses!
I have a Honda Element that I love, but sometimes I need just a little more truck capability. Hope to get one of these someday!
I think this would work perfect for you!
Just bought one, agree with everything you described, fits my needs perfectly, nice video thanks for sharing
joe great review. you had me rolling on the floor with that review. excellent!
Thanks for letting me share the laughs with you1
This is really an awesome truck because never saw trucks with such features before but Honda is now.
I am so glad that I could share it with you1
It may be a year or two but I may replace my “11 Element with this. I don’t need a giant pickup. Just something to throw bicycles in or personal stuff during the next hurricane evacuation. I do like the cooler in the back with the drain plug at the bottom.
In 40 states you'll be glad you had heated seats..Honda is smart...and I've seen oranges freeze in Florida...lol
That was just green mold! lol
I'm going to zonk it for the water/moisture I seen in the trunk when you opened it. I thought this was a water tight trunk. I do like the ridgeline for what it is. A crossover truck.
Who is Randy? I can understand where you are coming from.
@@RaitisRides sorry I don't know who randy is.
I just wish the front didn't look like the Odyssey...more aggressive or more "truck" like and I think it'd be perfect. The front end is just too passive
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective on this one!
If it's more like a truck, it would be counter intuitive of the the design.
I'm blown away with the features of this vehicle. As for the rearview mirror, lip, I every time you adjust the mirror you'll leave fingerprints.
I don’t know which one to pick? A 2019 Honda Ridgeline or 2019 Toyota Tundra?
KK MeapPerry I know I'm late to comment but the Tacoma is the direct competition to the Ridgeline and the ridline is basically an SUV with a bed
Live in the northeast u.s., in Honda territory, and I think I've seen ONE of these on the road in the last 12 months. But I'm gonna go drive one.
I think it may surprise you!
@@RaitisRides Yes I hope they know what a discount is...!
They will I am sure!
@@RaitisRides Heh they wanted to shove a real lowball at me. Passed.
Honda sensing 👍👍 work's great ...
I have a Honda accord sedan V6 touring 2017
Thank you so much for sharing your input and perspective based off of your ownership.
Just trade my new car to this and this is the best trade I ever did! love this truck!
Thanks for sharing that input! I really appreciate it!
I heard the 2017, 18 and 19 had transmission trouble, gas pump and other issues? Theying to decide which model to buy
I hear so many good things about the Ridgeline. Better than a Chevy, GMC and Dodge!
It is a great truck, especially for the price!
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Nice review BTW.
I prefer the look of the Tacoma but the Ridgeline seems to have all the bells and whistles, more than enough to haul my bricks and mulch from Home depot or my kayak.
That is so very true!
I had a Tacoma, I felt claustrophobic inside in comparison. It drove and guzzled like a tank too.
Just bought one. The only thing I hate is the volume slider instead of a knob. The newer models fix it
City Slickers need trucks too.
I love the way you put that!
Nice review. Other manufactures should take note of that interior and the cargo space in the bed.
Fix that front end and I’m buying one in a heart beat.
I can totally appreciate that!
What do you mean when you say you wish the heated seats were ventilated?
That it had cooling feature as well.
It's like a SUV and truck in one Raiti..
AGREED!
@Shuffle3956 why is that...lol
Compared to other trucks It can’t really tow, it can’t really haul, it can’t really off-road. It’s a truck for people that like the idea of a truck, without having an actual, capable truck.
I really appreciate you sharing your input and perspective! Thank you so much for watching!
great informative video, im picking up a 2019 RTL-T soon, same color combo too. if I was in FL, I would make the trip to you but im in NJ, peace
