    How about MPG, 9 speed trans, drain in the trunk for when you have ice, no need to purchase a bed liner, auto lock breaks to prevent roll back when on a hill, 8 tie downs in the bed, how wide compared to other mid-size (does not bounce you around as much).

      The only manufacture to compete with the drain is Ram, as there are drains in the Rambox's.

      2 years ago I actually bought a Tacoma Limited. The 10 mile drive home was a LOT better test drive than around the block with the salesman. I took the Tacoma back the next day and a few weeks later I drove 150 to Spartanburg, SC to buy a RidgeLine RTLE.

      Does that 9 speed transmission add anything, like better fuel economy? Other reviews say the 9 speed gets one mpg less than the 6 speed. If the 9 speed doesn’t give me more speed, more torque, or more fuel economy why go to the expense of a more complex transmission? It seems to me the 6 speed of the 2019, 2018, 2017 was just as good and would be easier to repair than the 9 speed. If you don’t need the complexity don’t do it.

    • @jimw544
      @jimw544 4 года назад +6

      @@foilist1 the 9 speed should do all of the above. It helps keep the engine at a steady RPM, unlike 4-6 speeds that vary as must as 1,000 RPMs between gears. The local Honda dealer loaned me a Pilot with the 9 speed. I must say it felt strange at first with 1st grear being lower than I expected. But I quickly adjusted. I did notice the engine stayed less than 2,000 RPMs while my 6 speed hangs around 2500 to 3000 and often 3500.
      The lack of a great shift quickly informed me that I have a habit of holding the shifter as I drive. I didn't know what to do with my right hand. :) But like the lack of knobs on the radio, things are changing. Plus I seen knobs and levers injure people in accidents.

    I bought a 2019 Ridgeline . I’ve hauled a bed load of fence slats and 2x4s. I’ve helped move couches. Recently remodeled an old home and put 12’ beams 8x2, 10x2, 12x2. Just drove to Austin and pulled an engine . I was carrying a Honda engine, engine hoist, air compressor, tool box, large jack, jack stands , and a cooler for food.
    Drove 85 to 90mph and averaged 25.9 miles per gallon. With the bed full of the engine/hoist/tools.
    Longer trip to Dallas and got 28mpg with 4 people and luggage driving 80-90mph.
    Real truck? 👍 yep

    • @codeman99-dev
      @codeman99-dev 4 года назад +3

      You were near the max payload and drove at 85+ mph? That is extremely unsafe! Always drive slower with a large payload and/or towing.

    • @chrisrobles2012
      @chrisrobles2012 4 года назад +7

      The payload max is 1549 lbs. an engine/trans was less than 500. Air compressor 75 pounds, 75 pound jack, 150 lb engine hoist, the cooler was less than 20. There were 6 tie downs.
      Dallas trip is 4 people no payload in the truck bed.
      In general 80-90 isn’t “safe” but it doesn’t even feel like 80/90. If there was traffic I’d be going 60mph because it would be bumper to bumper and no room to overtake.

    Real truck. Yes. I owned two of them, flawless past 100,000 miles on both. I own a Tundra 1794 now and honestly the Ridgeline did everything it can except tow over 5,000 pounds. It actually drove better. Much more a car like ride. I also drove it during snow emergencies and never came close to getting stuck. Two of the best trucks I ever owned, and I owned a lot of them.

    I purchased a 2017 Ridgeline when it first came out, no regrets; living in northern Canada I have never had any issues with cold starting or winter driving. The one comment that I hear from many reviews is how everyone wishes there was a knob for volume control, you can control the volume on the steering wheel so no need to take your hand off the steering wheel to adjust the volume, not sure why it is such a pet peeve with so many reviewers.

      500k miles. What are you basing that off of? Go join the 2gen Facebook group that nearly has 3000 member and look at all the issues people are having. Transmission shudder/overheating issues, torque converter,fuel injectors, brakes warping prematurely, oil dilution,vsm not activated correctly and active motor mounts failing prematurely. And everybody that owns one needs to install a s-vcm to deactivate vcm. Then hood constantly fludders regardless of a TSB, drivers and passengers windows fludders and vibrate specifically with a side winds and way too much wind noise at highway speeds, Bluetooth has constant problems, rear wiring harness fail due to rear tailgate swing out so rear camera will not work. And then there's the stupid maintenance schedule for this thing, rear diff every 15,000 and I have to do transmission every 20,000 miles. Yeh, really great truck!! Was my first time buying a new vehicle and my first Honda and nothing but a headache. Goodbye Honda, your Truck sucks and don't listen to consumer reports either on the POS.

This SUCK (1/2 SUV / 1/2 TRUCK) is a Honda Pilot with the back cut off and a bed added on, which means it is the ONLY UNI-BODY ALL WHEEL DRIVE truck on the market. It has surprised me, I enjoy driving it on the highway so much more than a body on frame truck. I have owned all the others. The downside is it's a home owner truck not a construction truck or major towing vehicle but perfect for daily house / home depot tasks. I even find myself driving the Challenger less, LOL.

Put running boards and some larger aggressive NITTO Ridge Grappler 265/65-18 on rear, & 265/60-18 on the front, my truck looks bad ass!! Everyone stops to look at my truck. My dad has a F-150 and he’s trading it in on a new Ridgeline. The pop up cargo storage in the bed was the main reason why I bought it, I use that cargo compartment every day. It’s crazy how much I can put in there. I’m a huge deer hunter, I use it for my boots and all my hunting clothes so I don’t have to keep them inside the truck. Gas mileage is awesome for a truck, or for any vehicle for that matter. Go buy one, you’ll be happy that u did.

      Guy Renard curious that your tailgate doesn’t lock up on a 2020. It’s supposed to. I’m in the market for one of those and
      I noticed it when visiting a dealership last week in Canada. 2019s do not have a lock but 2020s do. Maybe US marker is different?

      Raoul Béhem what do you know, it does lock! It just doesn’t have a key and the lock is disabled by default. The salesperson obviously didn’t know anything about this because we had asked. A quick search, though, shows you can enable it in the setup menu and then it will auto lock/unlock with the doors. Thanks! In case someone needs to know how, here is the link to the instruction video.

    In addition to the overlooked items mentioned in the comment you pinned you also failed to show the folding rear seats. I have a F-150 4X4 that at 14 years of age is in excellent condition. Considering that I am 69 myself I am not likely to replace it. But if I did I would strongly consider the Ridgeline. It has a very good list of features and at my age it might be nice to have a “truck” (sort of truck) that could more easily fit into tight parking spaces... such as my garage. Thanks for the video! :)

      Yeah but the thing is, Honda doesn't have many incentives while full size trucks do. I have a 2013 I bought new. After 7 years I still enjoy the truck so much, I am considering another. I've looked at other midsize and I just don't see the features in them that they have in this Honda. Sure they have some features the Honda doesn't, but they aren't the ones I need or would use. Somehow Honda found the sweet spot for me. The one problem is here in Texas, the Ridgeline isn't viewed as a real truck. But I can take the teasing from my buddies. They can't have an ice cold case under the bed of their truck.

    • @AlphaShark
      @AlphaShark  3 года назад

      Haha it’s not just in Texas that the Ridgeline is made fun of, but I feel like if people resort to making fun of your truck they can’t find anything else wrong with you as a person! Haha someone told me if I’m taller than my truck I don’t have a real truck? What sense does that make? 😂 if it has a bed it’s a truck done! Good choice, go with the Ridgeline if you like it! It is a very practical truck. Just as much as a Tacoma or Colorado.

    I also really like the Ridgeline, but I winced a bit when Honda increased the base MSRP even further for 2020 by eliminating the base trim. The Ridgeline was already the more expensive than every other midsize truck besides the Gladiator and now it's base price is higher than even the Gladiator!
    Now look, I'm no fool. I know that if the base trim for the Ridgeline sold well that Honda would not have gotten rid of it. But I also know that Honda currently has a monopoly on all-wheel-independent suspension pickup trucks so they can charge whatever the heck they want for it and the people who want a smooth-driving truck will have to pay that price. (This is why monopolies are bad and competition is good. the consumer wins when brands compete). Unfortunately for the Ridgeline, it's monopoly will soon come to an end as by the end of next year Hyundai will have introduced their Santa Cruz Pickup and Ford will have introduced their Courier (which will supposedly start at under $20,000). Once that happens, people will no longer have to spend over 30-grand to get a "pickup that rides like a car" and Honda may find itself in an awkward spot with the Ridgeline.

    • @AlphaShark
      @AlphaShark  4 года назад +2

      I am very interested to see how this plays out as I've been closely following the new trucks leaks and such, you're very correct on all these points! Honda will have to change up their structure if they want to compete going forward.

    I've always like the look of the Ridgeline and it's departure from the normal pickup truck thought process. It has everything most would need from a pickup but with a better ride. In the end, however, I went with the Ford F150. Why? well, price. With discounts and a little haggling I was able to get a far better deal for more truck (more than I need anyway). The two Honda dealers in my area just wouldn't budge on price and there were no dealer or manufacturer incentives to help. Still think it's a great truck.

    • @AlphaShark
      @AlphaShark  4 года назад +1

      That’s fair! I got a great deal on my Tacoma, at the end of the day it sometimes comes down to who has the better price, no matter what brand it is. The AWD has different modes for driving in snow, mud, rain and I wonder does that really work? I have a 2010 Ridgeline and if the back wheels spin, then 50% of power is sent to the front wheels. There are 2 things that can cause that, hood bumper adjustments need adjusting by the dealer. And/or there’s a TSB indicating the skin on the inside of the hood has come unglued. Yes I was one who made fun of the Ridgeline a lot before, but actually getting behind the wheel and reviewing it, I was pleasantly surprised. And doing my research I was surprised at everything Honda added to it to really make it a strong competitor.

    I just bought my 2023 Ridgeline sport base model a couple weeks ago and I don't care what people call it or think about it I just love it

    Of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Had two Ridgelines and brag all the time about them. You failed to mention the cup holders in the back also work as dog bowls. No other truck can offer that! Wish it had air lift for back roading and it could use a granny low. Otherwise a crotch cooling vent or cooling seats. Good review but the best part is the drive man. So great so controlled so smooth and so much performance and agility!

    My father at 83 years old could no longer get into his F-150. He was very upset that he wasn’t going to be able to drive anymore. So I decided to do some research and it seems that the Ridgeline is sitting on a car Chassie which means it’s sitting at the same height as a SUV. We went and did a test drive and it was perfect. So for older drivers having difficulty getting into their trucks this would be a perfect truck for them.

    I have a 2019 and I absolutely love it. It’s my favorite vehicle out of six that I own, including a 2017 Corvette Z06, BMW and Infiniti. And that’s a lot to say. The ride is really smooth and quiet. The infotainment system is pretty easy to navigate and has both android and Apple CarPlay. It is plenty powerful (HP) and has decent torque. I like this 2019 transmission (with the lever) because, for example, I can open the driver’s door to check the margin of a sidewalk to avoid road rash on the rims and it keeps moving. WITH THE NEW TRANSMISSION, (THE ONE SHOWN ON THIS VIDEO WITH THE BUTTONS) IF YOU OPEN THE DOOR, IT WILL PUT IT IN PARKING AUTOMATICALLY. To me that’s a nuisance, even though the car industry is doing this for security reasons.
    I recommend this truck if you need to do light to moderate work and / or towing. It’s definitely a good vehicle and can be used as a daily driver. The review is quite accurate. Thanks 😊

      Spot on. I had a 2016 Crosstrek. I hated it. It didn't actually fit my needs. Bought a 2019 Ridgeline and went camping with it the very first weekend. So practical.

    Good review of a nice truck. The Ridgeline is practical as well as a capable truck and also an excellent daily commuter. By the way the Titan also has driver side grab handle ;)

      I believe I noted that in my Titan review! :)
