Can You Please Add Details Regarding The 9 Speed Transmission and Paddle Shifter. Specifically Are There Any Improvements in This Transmission Setup vs. The 2018 & 2019 Honda Pilot 9 Speed Transmissions? (NOTE 1 Numerous Car Magazines and Consumer Reports 2019 Car Buyers Issue Comment Unfavorably on The Honda Pilot Pilot 9 Speed Transmission; Note 2 The 2018 & 2019 and Ridgeline Had a Very Well Liked 6 Speed Transmission.) Other Than Simplifying Honda Parts Inventory, Did How Did This Transmission Change Help Ridgeline Buyers? Also, Has This 2020 Transmission Setup Been Adjusted/Refined to Support 5,000 Towing?
The truck only got the nine speed because Honda discontinue the the 6-speedHonda doesn't care about towing they care about how cost effective is to build something it's cheaper to put together the same motor and transmission for all four of the vehicles that run on this platform
I just received my new Ridgeline. With the camera safety features for scanning vehicles ahead and one of them being just in front of the rear view mirror, where can one safely attach an EZ-Pass so as to not obstruct the camera?
Honda Pro, I like your 2020 Ridgeline video. Can you tell me how to activate the front parking sensors on the 2020 RTL-E when you pull straight into your garage?
I bought a 2019 Honda Ridgeline RTL. Glad that I did not wait to buy the 2020 model, as I could see in the video that they put in buttons for the gear shifter. What the heck? The Edsel had buttons and it didn’t go well. You can’t feel the buttons as well as a gearshift. What is Honda thinking?
I feel it just fine with my 2017 Pilot that I bought new. Have gotton used to it after a few shift. It's sort of like when you're learning to drive a stick and you tend to look at the which gear you're in. After a little while you don't need to look anymore or miss the lever shifrer. Just like a lot of people complain about the volumeless knob, gotten used to the steering volume buttons. It's really not a huge deal as people make it out to be. I also own a 2019 RTLE Ridgeline.
@@MrKnightoflight I love it because I'm not really a "truck" guy. It's the best of both worlds for my needs and I've owned several mid and full size trucks prior to my Ridgeline. I prefer the 9 speed than the 6 speed.
The Ridgeline gets better with each generation! I’m not even a truck guy and I want one now. I currently have a mint 1991 Honda CRX Si, 2008 Acura TLS and a daily driver 2008 Honda Fit Sport, but now I want to add a Black Edition to my Honda Fleet! Jason! Message me about our upcoming Honda Meet in Orlando!
Hello. Jason. a question. I bought a 2021 honda ridgeline sport and the white lights in front of the LED strips won't turn on and they say at the dealer it doesn't come equipped with those lights. If you can help me if it comes equipped with LED. If they share the same lights with Pilot and the pilot if it brings LED light.
Hey Jason, will Honda ever give us a trailer brake controller and trailer sway control? I’m really interested in this truck to replace my aging 4Runner.
Does the 6-cyl Earth Dreams engine have the gas issue, too, or is it just the 4-cylinder engines? A quick perusal of the Ridgeline forums suggests a lot of people are smelling gas around their Ridgelines.
I wished Honda would sell everything it sells in Japan in the UK. It would be fantastic. Honda don't take the UK seriously. I really want Honda to shove 2 fingers up at vw/audi/skoda/seat/bmw/mercedes and show them how to build a proper reliable car. Please Honda, give us more model's.
I love the concept of the Ridgeline but I’m not big on the front end styling, transmission, and interior. I’ll see what they do for the next generation.
2018 Ridgeline Question?? Is there a way to have the tail lights on when you remote start it? It’s nice to have a visual aid as other brands do this All they do is flash once but don’t stay on
BUCK WRABBIT I have a 2019. There is a way. My method is leaving the parking lights on. After start-up hit the unlock button and the lights glow for one minute. However this only works if the truck is unlocked and to turn the lights back on you have to re-lock while in remote start and unlock again. It’s an extremely tedious process but there is one. Hope this helps from a fellow Ridgeline owner.
Don Jacobs Unfortunately yes. If you re-lock the truck in remote start mode (which you can apologies for my incorrect information) it shuts the lights back off. The lights will stay on for one minute then you have to repeat the cycle.
Love ny 2019 Rtl -e and glad to see some of these changes (eg paddle shifters and wider opening doors). I am not stoked about the 9 speed transmission or the dumb push button shifter. Honda needs to kill that bad idea
OtisKekoa they added the 9 speed because people complained about the lack of capability and overheating. I own a 2019 Passport, it has the same crawl capability as a the trailhawk versions of the Jeep renegade & compass. They achieve that by using the ZF9 speed and 4.334 axles giving these vehicles a 20:1 crawl ratio. The Honda 6speed only has a 14:1 crawl ratio, that’s sedan like... not truck like. My guess is the reason they didn’t initially use the ZF9 is because it was so problematic when it was first released. Or, they just wanted to use up their old inventory of parts.
Jim Bailey it’s really amazing. Check this out. There’s two video clips, look at them both. Btw, this is a Jeep obstacle. instagram.com/p/BwPLMv-Hi3F/?igshid=19q728x5elkne
Best feature: The Ridgeline t-shirt Jason! Take one to the Netherlands for me, XL hahaha. I actually thought the round volume knob would return to the radio on the 2020..? Or am I missing something?
I'll be making the jump from SUV to truck with the Ridgeline. This is the truck I've been waiting for, best in class gas mileage, and sensible quality of life features. I would say that this truck covers about 90% of what the majority of truck owners ACTUALLY use their truck for.
Excellent review .. thanks Jason! Honda is really listening to Ridgeline owners. I own a 2019 Ridgeline. Seems reviewers never mentions that the spare tire is on a sliding tray 'in' the trunk ... that's a big plus over all other trucks. Honda needs to improve the resolution on the rearview cameras. Reviewers never mention the rearview camera on the passenger side exterior rearview mirror and that camera is a big plus for sure. Also, the interior rearview mirror needs to be more adjustable for the taller driver.
I just bought the RTL 2019, Great truck! Just wish Honda would have used the wider hinges for the rear doors and just put the Accord or CR-V infotainment system already. Is 2020 and they still don't have a volume knob. Believe it or not, I got the RTL over the RTL-E because of the volume knob. I wanted Carplay as in my BMW's and Hyundai, but I don't like not having a volume knob, drives me crazy in my wife's 2016 HR-V when I drive it.
I really like the Ridgeline (and Pilot and Passport -- and Hondas in general - I'm on my second CRV and have owned three Accords), but I wonder why the Honda SUVs have relatively small fuel tanks. This seems like an oversight especially for the Ridgeline which has a built-in trailer hitch and wiring standard and holds 19.5 gallons. For comparison, a Chevy Malibu holds 15.8 gallons; a Ford Fusion, 16.5 gallons; a Tacoma, 21 gallons; and a Subaru Outback holds 18.5 gallons. Is 400ish miles of range enough? Sure, but couldn't they fit another 2 or 3 gallons in the Ridgeline and Pilot to gain a few extra miles of range?
Honda Pro Jason I'm looking to get a midsize pickup truck and had looked over everything out there; started to look at the Ridgeline and say you review the 2019 Ridgeline. The thing that sold me was the trunk in the rear bed; even found the trim level I would like to have RTL-T. Unfortunately this model is longer produced. It was the best trim level with just the right options; now it is no longer produced and the RTL has no navigation from what I've read and seen. The RTL-E in my opinion has more than I would really like. I personally don't care for vechiles that are fully loaded; I have always wanted a middle of the road type options on vechiles.
My awd 2017 rtl was a huge money pit. The first transmission lasted 40k miles. The second transmission though properly maintained lasted to 70k. Once I started getting transmission problems again I got rid of it before it needed number three. The 2017 honda ridgeline was a huge pos in my opinion. I've got over 260k on my challenger and it's still going strong. My FORD explorer even got to 220k miles before needing to be replaced.
Google pop and lock tailgate locking system. Some places can install as an aftermarket parts. Will lock both handles on a Ridgeline. I had one installed on my 2013.
I don't know -- I bought a 2019 and I'm actually relieved the 2020 is only debatably better. You can make your rear doors the same with $20 in parts and about 40 minutes work. Tailgate lock seems almost the same as the Popalock system, so you could do that too. And I'm really not sure I'd want the ZF 9 speed instead of a Honda six. Paddle shifters would be nice, other than that I'm not seeing the point.

Its freaking awful when you arrive at a dealer and you realize you are dealing with an "underbrainer". I think Im going to replace my old truck w ridgeline. Have to help my HMC share price.
Can You Please Add Details Regarding The 9 Speed Transmission and Paddle Shifter.
Specifically Are There Any Improvements in This Transmission Setup vs. The 2018 & 2019 Honda Pilot 9 Speed Transmissions?
(NOTE 1 Numerous Car Magazines and Consumer Reports 2019 Car Buyers Issue Comment Unfavorably on The Honda Pilot Pilot 9 Speed Transmission; Note 2 The 2018 & 2019 and Ridgeline Had a Very Well Liked 6 Speed Transmission.)
Other Than Simplifying Honda Parts Inventory, Did How Did This Transmission Change Help Ridgeline Buyers?
Also, Has This 2020 Transmission Setup Been Adjusted/Refined to Support 5,000 Towing?
The truck only got the nine speed because Honda discontinue the the 6-speedHonda doesn't care about towing they care about how cost effective is to build something it's cheaper to put together the same motor and transmission for all four of the vehicles that run on this platform
Yes it'll tow 5k pounds.
Loved seeing some of those hidden features !
What year did the physical gear shift lever go away? I have a 2018 and it has a gear shift. Seems odd to not have one.
2020 it changed to the 9 speed w/electronic shifter
Backup for tailgate unlock. Does this mean anyone can open your locked tailgate?
Squid Usn Good to know. Thank you. How do you like your Ridgeline?
Is the Honda e coming to USA 🇺🇸? and what year do you think it will be available?
Hello. Jason. a question. I bought a 2021 honda ridgeline sport and the white lights in front of the LED strips won't turn on and they say at the dealer it doesn't come equipped with those lights. If you can help me if it comes equipped with LED. If they share the same lights with Pilot and the pilot if it brings LED light.
HONDA GUY, how do you lock in the radio? It’s annoying to have to tap the audio button every time. Hey did the 20 models get a real horn?
Great video. How about a simple backup for shifting into neutral for towing when the vehicle power is dead?
Hey Jason, will Honda ever give us a trailer brake controller and trailer sway control? I’m really interested in this truck to replace my aging 4Runner.
Did Honda improve the Earth Dreams engine? Can we anticipate issues with fuel getting past the piston rings? Does this have the dreaded CVT?
No CVT. ZF 9-speed, as used in other Honda products
Does the 6-cyl Earth Dreams engine have the gas issue, too, or is it just the 4-cylinder engines? A quick perusal of the Ridgeline forums suggests a lot of people are smelling gas around their Ridgelines.
@@jeffd3844 It's just the 1.5 liter turbo engine.
Agree with you. Great concept but they need to work on their styling. They need to separate it from looking like the Pilot.
I'll try to wait myself.
Just say that you aint ready to buy for other reasons that you didnt mentioned lol.
2018 Ridgeline Question??
Is there a way to have the tail lights on when you remote start it?
It’s nice to have a visual aid as other brands do this
All they do is flash once but don’t stay on
BUCK WRABBIT I have a 2019.
@@xenonsaccord4447 so even if you leave the parking lights on, when you remote start it won't keep the lights on unless you unlock it?
Don Jacobs Unfortunately yes. If you re-lock the truck in remote start mode (which you can apologies for my incorrect information) it shuts the lights back off. The lights will stay on for one minute then you have to repeat the cycle.
Just bought a 2020 RTL-E for my partner. I forwarded this video to him so that he can be aware of his new buggy!
That easter egg lol used to do that on my android phone back in 2013
lol yes and thats how found it due to Honda using android 4.2.2
The 2017 is great but this one is even better!
I genuinely wonder how you learn all this stuff. Gotta love Honda.
Pikminiman read, research, inspect and i do love Honda
I assume Honda tells him obviously.
I mean it's a cool truck IMO, but the Android thing is really really old. Jellybean is a super ancient version of Android
Are there any events you're going to be at in South Florida coming up.?
I tried locking the tailgate. It worked one time for me, and now it won't. What am I doing wrong?
Love ny 2019 Rtl -e and glad to see some of these changes (eg paddle shifters and wider opening doors). I am not stoked about the 9 speed transmission or the dumb push button shifter. Honda needs to kill that bad idea
OtisKekoa spit on.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring Thanks for that info. Nice to see one can manually shift a RL now, and that 1st is a crawl gear.
Hey at least it's not a CVT.
Jim Bailey it’s really amazing. Check this out. There’s two video clips, look at them both. Btw, this is a Jeep obstacle.

Which tranmission is most reliable, 6-speed or 9-speed?
I love my 2020 Honda Ridgeline
Best feature: The Ridgeline t-shirt Jason! Take one to the Netherlands for me, XL hahaha.
I actually thought the round volume knob would return to the radio on the 2020..? Or am I missing something?
I'll be making the jump from SUV to truck with the Ridgeline. This is the truck I've been waiting for, best in class gas mileage, and sensible quality of life features. I would say that this truck covers about 90% of what the majority of truck owners ACTUALLY use their truck for.
Great decision & i agree 100%
With the Ridgeline you can do it all!!!
Does it have a backup camera?
How's that new transmission? 2 extra gears. Any lack of power?
Went from 6 to 9. Im curious what the benefit is supposed to be since the mpg and towing capacity didn't change.
@@MultiDc12345 it needs more MPG. I love mine. But at a constant 17 round town. In eco mode.... LOL
@@ejf0255 yep, roughly same on mine in town. Pretty decent on the highway, sometimes near 30mpg in eco mode with a good tailwind.
@@MultiDc12345 what a great ride thou. Good times !
Waiting for snow. And summer for a beach run !!!
The manual tailgate lock....Does this mean anyone can steal something inside the truck bed even if you lock it up with your key remote?
Excellent review .. thanks Jason! Honda is really listening to Ridgeline owners. I own a 2019 Ridgeline. Seems reviewers never mentions that the spare tire is on a sliding tray 'in' the trunk ... that's a big plus over all other trucks. Honda needs to improve the resolution on the rearview cameras. Reviewers never mention the rearview camera on the passenger side exterior rearview mirror and that camera is a big plus for sure. Also, the interior rearview mirror needs to be more adjustable for the taller driver.
The Ridgeline is the king of trucks.
Are the jewel eye headlights only available on the RTL-E and Black Editions?
I just bought the RTL 2019, Great truck! Just wish Honda would have used the wider hinges for the rear doors and just put the Accord or CR-V infotainment system already. Is 2020 and they still don't have a volume knob. Believe it or not, I got the RTL over the RTL-E because of the volume knob. I wanted Carplay as in my BMW's and Hyundai, but I don't like not having a volume knob, drives me crazy in my wife's 2016 HR-V when I drive it.
Jerry Pena you can buy the front door stops and install them on the back doors. $35 and 15 minutes you’ll have wider opening rear doors.
I bought a 2019 RTL too. Radio buttons and a gear shifter! Yeah!
Do they have a back up camera?
Honda, why the 9-speed?? Where are the knobs for volume and tuning?? Why not a Ridgeline with the 2.0T 250 hp from the Accord?
Honda Pro Jason
I'm looking to get a midsize pickup truck and had looked over everything out there; started to look at the Ridgeline and say you review the 2019 Ridgeline.
Could the locking tailgate feature be added to a 2019 RTL-E WITHOUT having to purchase the keyed locking tailgate handle?
Google pop and lock tailgate locking system. Some places can install as an aftermarket parts. Will lock both handles on a Ridgeline. I had one installed on my 2013.
I like all the backup systems. I should have waited as I have a 2019.
I'm a buyer when it gets the more modern front end of the Pilot, cooled seats and would love to see an additional 4"-6" of bed. Triple
Jason where is the 2020 Ridgeline Sport and RTL??? Cant find any info... Thx
