I agree. The naturally aspirated V6, built in bedliner, the deep trunk, the ability to haul 4 X 8 sheets of plywood and drywall flat in the bed, the swing out tailgate, the smooth ride, comfortable wide interior and Hondas reliability and build quality especially on the Vtech V6 are the main reasons I like the Ridgeline the best. I owned 2 Rams , one F150 and 2 Bronocs and I like the Ridgeline the best. Also the Ridgeline has the distinction of being the most American-made pickup truck.
@@tidestacker4674 Nice. I also like how mine fits in a 2 car garage a lot better than my full size trucks did. I live in the hot Arizona desert and the sun and 110+ degree days drys out the rubber, fades the paint and cracks leather seats much faster than other areas ive lived in so being able to park it in the garage in the summer is important to me.
@@LancelotLinkSecretChimp Oh I totally agree. I always had to back my silverado into my garage and it barely cleared the sides of the doors. I had to be super careful. This truck fits in my garage perfectly.
I have the 2023. Awesome truck. Averaging 22mpg, adaptive cruise is the best, takes the work out of driving! Love the tailgate and trunk; the cabin is spacious, enjoying the bells and whistles. Thanks for your review!
Great review. I researched all mid-sized trucks and ended up with a 2023 RTL and I never even considered a Honda before. Now with a year of ownership I have no regrets. Every time I drive my Ridgeline I appreciate this truck's AWD, cargo capacity, ride comfort, handling, V6 power, and I'm averaging 22 -24MPG.
i have 2013 with 130,000 miles. Other than brakes, tires, fluid changes - and of course, the timing belt replacement at 90k - it's never had to go in the shop. What's most amazing to me is that it still rides the same as when it was new. Everything is solid and tight. No rattles, squeaks or engine noises. Rides smooooth as a baby's bottom.
I have a 2012 Ridgeline Sport with nearly 200k miles. I essentially bought it new in 2012. I’ve never had any problems with it. During these past 12 years … my wife has had 3 different cars while I’ve just driven the Ridgeline. I love it ….. it does everything I need it to.
Great video review. No pretentious BS. The one thing I hate about smaller vehicles is the small gas tank. The one thing I love about my F150 is the 35 gallon gas tank ard 600 mile range vs ~300. Give me a BIG tank and I'd be happier...
I have an 18 RTL and just love it. It does have a heated steering wheel and speakers in the truck bed. We've taken it to NASCAR races and used the trunk as a huge beer cooler because it has a drain plug. Speakers in back and to the tailgating experience.
Had a 2006 with over 300,000 miles, hauled full pallets of mulch which crapped out transaxles, gave it a friend and it’s still on the road. Got a 2020 just before Covid hit, they are super reliable. Get the Idlestopper if you want to by pass the stopping when you stop.
My husband and I bought a 2024 trailsport 2 days ago. Waiting on Hurricane Milton to go pick it up. I’ve been considering these for two years. After 2 Ram pickup trucks and a Jeep Gladiator I am looking forward to getting back into a Honda vehicle. Glad to see everyone loves their Ridgeline.
I have a 2020 Black Edition. I Love it . The best thing is on those cold mornings. The heated steering wheel. Is supper nice. No more frozen fingers. This is my 2nd Ridgeline. My 1st was a 2007 RTS I bought used and drove it for 10 years.
I made the same choice in 2020. I went from a Ford 150 to my Ridgeline and am very pleased. I would add two insights. First, it does take a while to get used to sitting much lower to the ground, however the Ridgeline's smooth ride quickly becomes more pleasing. Second, I'm 6'2" and fit comfortably in the Ridgeline. Very good all around visibility in the Ridgeline. I sat in a Tacoma and just didn't fit? [In fact, I can't drive with my seat in the lowest, furthest back position.] Four years, 40k miles, not one problem. 👍
Thanks for your honest review, I purchased a 24 B/E in Feb after 4k miles I love it more every time I drive. Downsized from a 2010 F150 with 175K miles what a big difference, (my 3rd full size) More folks who want a mid-size should try it.
Nice. I would've loved to get a BE. I was in a pinch due to the transmission failing on my Silverado and there was a stop sale order on most of the Ridgeline inventory so I had to take what I could get. But I'm still pretty happy with the RTL trim.
I saw one comment talking about how the Honda Ridgeline unibody truck is not a truck because it's not a body on frame. That's like saying the 1969 Corvette body on frame car is a truck. There's no way a body on frame Corvette has a 5000lbs towing capacity with a 1500lbs payload capacity. Worst part is the Toyota Tacoma went with a turbo hybrid, turbo's make cars really inefficient. Especially when you stepping on the gas, the naturally aspirated engine will be more efficient. The new Toyota Tacoma front differential already broke, and with a small fuel tank of 18.2 Gallons, it doesn't go far at all. 350 miles of range without towing, but with towing, especially with a turbo expect 5-10mpg. The honda Ridgeline is not only more efficient, it has a bigger fuel tank, and with no turbo, mpg will be looking pretty good. With midsize pick-up trucks a unibody just makes sense, the body on frame doesn't get fully utilized like the full size trucks do. The size of an engine does play a part of fuel economy, but a turbo will always destroy MPG, just the reality.
I’ve owned Fords, Chevys and Dodge trucks and hands down my favorite truck is my current 2021 Honda Ridgeline 2021. It’s does everything I want and more and it does it with great comfort. At 67 years old, comfort becomes paramount.
I have a 21 RTLE. 2nd one, I previously had an 06 RTL. I love it. It's ride is superb compared to all the others I have had. It's a joy to drive, especially on the highway.
Nice video. I've had a 2017 for almost 6 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Ridgeline's cabin space and rear seat set up with the ease of folding (You can do it one handed) is just unmatched right now. You can fit an entire bike back there with the seats folded up or just fold one and still have room for storage and one passenger. Don't know where you live, but wait till you drive on the ice and snow. Damn thing is just a snow beast! Simply rock solid and practical.
I'm from Upstate NY, Yes the Ridgeline is good in the snow, but you'll get additional confidence with a set of snow tires. Obviously. Enjoy your new truck. 👍
I have owned Ridgelines since late 05...they are bulletproof...saved me a lot of money with very few issues over the years. They are awesome, and I am anxiously awaiting for a re-design...more aggressive would work!!!!
I just recently bought a 2025 Ridgeline Black Edition in sonic gray pearl. I agree 100% with everything you said about the Ridgeline. I sold a Lexus RX450h, so I miss having an electronic parking brake, 360 camera and larger, more upright screen on the dash. I think the 2026 model will probably have an updated, more Pilot like, interior/dash design. This Ridgeline is just as quiet, and comfortable, as the Lexus and that makes it a real pleasure to drive.
I’ve driven just about every type of truck. My Ridgeline is my favorite. It does have limitations, so not sure how long I’ll keep it, but definitely a great truck. 2023 BE.
I got a Trailsport in March and I couldn’t be happier, I did a road trip from Quincy to lake George NY on the mass pike 70-80 mph and I averaged 27.7 mpg . I traded my Tacoma for the Ridgeline and it’s a 100x better for daily driving.
I've only done one road trip so far. From Medway to Bennington VT to get my daughter from college. It was around 340 miles round trip and I was averaging about 25 mpgs. Not horrible. My old Silverado used to average around 19 mpgs on that same trip. The real savings for me is daily driving. My silverado only got around 14mpgs city.. and I'm not getting around 19mpgs. Not amazing.. but still much better for my type of daily driving.
@@Retep33 none , if you don’t go off-road the Ridgeline does everything you need in a pickup and the trunk is extremely useful, the back seat you can actually put adults in. Take one for a test drive and see what you think, good luck.
I have a 23 RTL and have been very happy with it. I am thankful not to have the rough ride of other pickups like the Tacoma or Maverick. I wish the mpg was better on the Ridgeline, but a hard cover on the bed raises highway mpg to about 28 mpg.
I was considering trading my Silverado before the release of the 2024 but I didn't like the armrest and center console. I decided to hold off hoping the changes in '24 would sway me. But I ultimately decided to keep my Silverado for the sole reason that it was paid off. But when the Transmission failed.. I had no choice and the changes to the Ridgeline, tho minor, were enough to sway me. I was only getting around 14mpg city and 18-19mpg highway in my Silverado.. so the 19 city and 25 Highway on the Ridgeline is a welcome improvement.
I think the RTL is the best value among the trim levels. With leather seats, memory seats, Sirius XM, improved tech center, and power rear window are all the amenities you really need.
I agree. I do like the blacked out look more than the chrome tho. I ordered the black grill piece to replace the chrome on my front end... and I changed out the chrome badging on the tailgate to black. I now have mostly the look I was hoping for in the upper trim levels. You definitely get a pretty well equipped vehicle in the RTL.. definitely the most bang for buck value compared to the upper trims.
I have a 20 RTL-E and also owned the same Sierra that you had. The Ridgeline has given me zero problems over the last 4 years. It’s very comfortable and gets decent highway mileage. I do really enjoy the 500 watt stereo and heated steering wheel. I’m in upstate NY we get long cold winters. I do switch out factory tires and wheels for steel wheels with snow tires on all corners. This makes the Ridgeline the best winter driving truck I’ve ever had. The all wheel drive system in this truck is so much better than the typical truck.
I’m convinced the Ridgeline is for the guy who doesn’t care what other people think. I couldn’t come to terms with the price tag but you convinced me with the backseat comfort for the kiddos!
That's a pretty good assessment. lol. I think the older I get.. the more practical I've become. This truck is definitely practical for most homeowners.
Consider a 3-4 year used model. Most of the depreciation occurs in those years, and you can take advantage of that. Chop off some 10-15k off the top. They have made changes over that range so maybe some things are a deal breaker with those changes but something to consider.
@@goatsplitter Agree with you mostly, but Hondas don't depreciate as much as you would think. After having to get a CR-V and a Civic replaced after they were a total loss in collisions, I am thankful for that, it definitely helped to get more back than anticipated.
@@MJManzelli this year, I was looking at either a Ridgeline or Acura RDX. After 3 years, both were at the same price point I was looking at; around 30k. The Ridgeline spec was around 43k MSRP and the rdx like 54k lol. I ended up with the RDX but in either case the price difference was pretty substantial for only 3 years. Acura lost about 20k in value and the Ridgeline I was looking at only like 12k. Each with around 30k in miles. Basically still new for a Honda in either case and that's a lot of overhead depreciation to immediately go through. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Nice video. I have a black 2023 RTL-E and I like it. When you consider all the features it comes with it’s very competitively priced. It’s not a rock crawler but does everything I need to do and is surprisingly capable with it’s full time awd system.
Appreciate the honest, 1st-hand review a month into owning this. Great features, especially rear seat space & bedliner storage. But I bailed at the MPG. Heard Toyota Corolla hybrid truck is on the way, so I'll wait.
Great presentation. I also have a Silverado with transmission issues. I'm between the Honda Ridgeline and the Ford f150. So far, you are the only one of all the videos that I have seen for the Ridgeline that explains the needs of what I'm looking for.
I’m betting you will find that if you need to tow more or do much off-roading, the extra capabilities of the F-150 would better suit you. But if not, the Ridgeline is in most ways more enjoyable for the reasons given in this video. It’s just super smooth, comfortable, big enough yet easy to maneuver around and park places, super functional, solid naturally aspirated engine.
@@germanjimenez5968 It's an old man's truck. I know because I am an old man. I never see younger folk driving these trucks. The ride is awesome and seats are great 2020 RTL-E
@@germanjimenez5968 I've driven mine offroad, and in snow here in Utah, as well as towed a boat with it. My only gripe is the front clearance. Plenty in the back actually but the front is lower than some Subaru's. I just have to be careful on approach. Not like I'm taking this on jeep trails, that's not what its for. But in the snow, I would absolutely put this up against any truck or Subaru. Its my daily driver, love these things so much I'm on my second one. 23 black edition in white. 5 star crash test rating, hardly anyone mentions that, so pretty low insurance rates.
Have the same truck with about 1700 miles as well. I like it, and it feels like a truck to me. Averaging about 22 miles to the gal city/highway in the mountains. Got some new floor mats and the trunk compartment dividers, but that's the only money I have put into it. I'm satisfied with the truck so far, and it was a better choice than my first choice, a Toyota Tacoma.
Beautiful truck. There’s a lot to love about Hondas. I recently purchased a Toyota SUV after years of buying Honda’s. I got fed up with Honda refusing to modernize while having higher prices than their competitors. Even at the highest trim, ventilated seats, HUD, 360 cameras and autonomous driving were not even options. I miss Honda’s solid build quality and quiet comfortable interiors. With regular maintenance, they do not break down.
Oddly, some of the other Honda vehicles have the 360 cams and ventilated seats. I'm not sure why they haven't incorporated them into the Ridgeline. But I'm still pretty happy with the truck. Its more practical for my type of driving than my Silverado was.
Been think of upgrading to a Honda in the future . My 18 year old Tacoma still runs Awesome. Hard to give up a truck that is payed for and still runs perfect . Good Video !!
No doubt. I wouldn't have traded my Silverado if the transmission hadn't failed. I wanted to.. but it was hard to do since it was paid for. But once the transmission failed.. on top of needing new tires.. and it just wasn't a good decision to fix it. Trade was the only option...
You’re going to find that the Ridgeline is amazing in poor driving conditions like snow and ice. I have one in Alaska and we use studs in the winter. I bought a pair of Go Treads recovery slats to keep in the trunk in case I find myself stuck in the middle of nowhere. So far I’ve only ever needed them was for other ppl’s stranded big trucks. That’s right, the Ridgeline has rescued other trucks out of the snow. Hondas’s AWD system is elite. The only time my time has failed is when I left my truck outside in -45F for a week, it was cold enough that the electrolyte free AGM battery froze. It’s a great truck.
Love how it drives, very comfy seats and very versatile with the rear bench seat up, the swing out tailgate and the in-bed trunk. Wish Honda offered a digital rear view camera, bed camera, surround view camera. It's still a big vehicle at 211" long and it's 20024, these features are becoming more commonplace now to make life a little easier for drivers.
Congratulations. My family and I love ours...sure could use improvements and far more options and less considering it is more American than American brands...but high prices due to made in America by Americans with high wages and unions cost to manufacturer
I had full sized, small (dodge D50)and midsized (Dakotas) trucks. I now own a 2017 Ridgeline. It’s a really good “Cruck”. Hauls like a full size but it’s comfortable to drive and ride in. Many nice features, trunk, flip up rear seats, in bed Stereo/outlet (tailgating). We average around 24 mpg. More on summer roadtrips less in winter driving. At this time I would replace it with another one of the same model. If you don’t have to pull anything heavy this is a great vehicle.
I have a 2019 RTL. I was a Dodge truck driver for 23 years before switching to the Ridgeline. Unfortunately, I did not get the fancy stereo screen and safety sensors, as those were only for the top models then. I also did not get the locking tailgate or wider opening back doors. I like having the stick shift instead of buttons, and the flat storage compartment with adjustable arm rests between the front seats. I also like my steering wheel controls better. The new digital dash is cool, but can live without it. Overall, I really like my truck! The tailgate and trunk are awesome! It drives smooth, gets good gas mileage (30 mpg in warm weather on the freeway) and great AWD in snow, mud, and back [dirt] roads. I have not driven it in sand, and may never try that. This truck is not for extreme off-roading and heavy towing. Other than that, I am sure that you will really enjoy your new truck!
Great review. I’ve been researching Ridgeline as a replacement for our 2012 Mercedes GLK. GLK has been awesome. 153k no major issues. I don’t tow so medium size truck fits me. But I just retired and don’t want to start a car payment.
Nice video, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I made a similar decision in 2022 when I downsized from our Ram to an RTL-E. I initially loved the car like ride and handling, the ease in parking and like you pointed out, the storage. I too especially liked the in-bed storage area as it came in handy taking boat related items to our marina. I’m older and retired and climbing in and out was also very easy. I say “was” because after a few road trips to visit our grown children and grandkids the highway experience wasn’t so great for us. The Ridgeline lacked highway power on long road trips and couldn’t get over 10 mpgs on rare occasions when we towed our boat. While I liked a lot of features my wife wouldn’t let up regarding the cartoon like graphics on the info system and the really poor navigation maps (RTL-Es had nav). The Ridgeline lasted 6 months and we traded it in for an F150 4X4 V8 which incidentally gets 18-22 mpg (more than I ever saw in the Ridgeline). It’s funny how things can come full circle. Earlier this year I had some serious health issues and surgery, we sold the boat, aren’t doing road trips anymore and I’ve been thinking about revisiting the Ridgeline Black edition. Hence I came across your video. Great video, hope you love it. Sounds like you had a better mindset going into the Ridgeline, maybe my timing was just a bit off. Funny I came across your Indian video as well, glad you like it. I Also sold our Harley and went to a Can Am RT Limited (anyone can ride one of these). Best of luck. G 😊
I'm 63 yr old whose been driving a 2007 Pontiac Vibe since 2007. I've been doing a lot of researching for my next vehicle and the Honda Ridgeline has my current attention. I hope when the time comes the vehicle I want will be readily available. 😅 oh boy!
Thanks for the review after ownership. This truck has a lot of features that puts it in a class by itself. When the '25 comes out with the hybrid power train, it will be very hard to beat.
I 100% agree with everything you said and me being a Tacoma owner. Same as you, mine is paid for and there’s no need to buy anything else. Just as a suggestion, your mpgs will do better if you air up you tires to 36 psi. I think Honda has them at 32 psi for comfort.
Nice video, I went through the same thing coming from a Sierra. I decided on the Frontier because its a true body on frame and can tow more but I dis heavily consider the Ridgeline over any other.
Great review and I think this will be my next truck. My truck is in the shop and got a older Ridgeline for a loaner and I liked the way it drove. It has 197000 miles on it and still feels solid. Thanks for the video.
I'm really enjoying it more than I expected. I thought downsizing from a full-size truck would be more of an adjustment, but the Ridgeline really feels spacious inside so it makes the adjustment easy.
I had a lot of issues with my 2017. Two rear view camera wiring replaced under warranty. Fuel injectors under warranty. Start switch under extended warranty. Torque converter under extended warranty. The AWD quit just at the start of winter and the differential pump failed and required replacement at 49,000km. Took 5 trips to the city to have that addressed which is a 200km round trip for me and wastes a day. I had a lot of rust on the underside at 7 years which when the constant velocity boot was leaking and required replacement ended up costing $1700 to repair. All that said I bought a new one because I like the vehicle and there wasn’t much else available that I would consider. Friends have had issues with their GM trucks. No Toyotas were available. The dealer gave me about 69% of what I paid for the truck as trade in and took into account the $1700 repair and a $3000 rebate on the black edition sold it for me.
You made a good choice. Your Ridgeline seems well equipped. I have checked out a few midsized trucks and found that the Honda Ridgeline is most roomy and comfortable. Also, the dual action tailgate and the locking inbed trunk. It is better equipped than my Acura RDX.
Agree with everything you said, I have 2023 came from full size also . This truck just fits life all around. Have same color with roof rack and same trim level. My only complaint is not having the LED daytime running lights. Great honest review
Thanks for your honest assessment and not another commercial. I, too, have a 2024 Ridgeline, newly purchased. There were no Trailsports available in this area. I agree with all of what you said as I drove a Colorado and didn't like the interior space or the engine noise inside the cab. It is the best practical vehicle available, in my humble opinion. I did add a VCM muzzler, black running boards, and mud guards. I do wish it had parking sensors, surround cameras, and rear view mirror camera as the visibility out the back is not the best. I plan to dump the oil at about 1000 miles and change every 5000 after that as I plan to keep it for some time. It's a smooth running nice riding vehicle. Maybe not the best off-road, but for snow and ice it should be great. I am retired and plan on selling my 2017 Avalon and having this for my only vehicle. Thanks again.
I have an 2007 with 110K on it , no problems all I had to do was clean the EGR. I paid 13.5 and will have it another 10years. I changed plugs after 80K. Still original brakes etc.
We have the 24 Ridgeline in the black edition, same color as yours. My husband loves the dual opening tailgate and extra trunk area also. Loves the backseat to fold up as well as head & leg room. We are very happy with it all.
I wanted the black edition but when the transmission failed on my Silverado, there was a stop sale order on all Ridgelines and I needed a new vehicle immediately so I had to take the first truck that became available. But I'm still very happy with the RTL trim level.
When we went to purchase - trade in our pilot, there were about 10 that they couldn’t sell for the same reason. My husband has always wanted a ridgeline, so it was a black RTL or 2 black editions. He loves that back power slide window too. They never told us what the recall was for but could sell us this one, it wasn’t a problem for that recall, thankfully. We’ve always loved our Honda’s. Glad you’re enjoying yours also!
I bought a 2021 RTLE and love it!!! I previously owned 2 Tacoma’s and this truck beats both Tacoma’s hands down. Handling, speed, comfort, are all superior in the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline outperforms Tacoma in all areas except towing and off-roading which I don’t do. Wish they still made the RTLE , I love the blue interior lights, the premium sound and I have grey seats and interior. Only negative I don’t like the perforated seats, and the infotainment is much slower than new models. But I love the subwoofer with 540 watts. Great sound for a stock vehicle.
Good revue, as a long term "real truck owner" I will never go back and my ridgeline does everything I need a truck to do, and has so many positives and little negatives..
This was the EXACT review I needed. I have a Silverado right now and I'm thinking about trading down to a ridgeline. I hear too many things about the transmission on the Silverados. I don't use my truck to haul crazy stuff, so I don't think I need a full sized truck. Thank you for this review!
It’s kinda disappointing that the Silverado transmission failed with under 100k miles. Especially since I didn’t haul or tow much. And I serviced it on time too.
Congratulations on your new truck. I've had 4 Ridgelines over the years and agree it's a good option for those that don't need a full size truck. I laugh when people call it a NART (Not A Real Truck). Some get all bent out of shape when the Ridgeline is referred to as a truck.
I traded in my 2017 Honda Ridgeline for a new 2024 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition in March. I think the Ridgeline is a great vehicle for my limited needs of a truck. Since I’m retired, I have zero need for a larger truck. There was nothing wrong with the 2017 truck but I just decided to upgrade to the newer model. My wife and I also own a 2017 Honda Accord and 2006 Honda Odyssey. I believe Honda builds excellent vehicles and I expect my new Ridgeline to be as dependable as my previous Honda’s.
Good to hear. I've had nothing but Chevy trucks for the past 25 years.. with the exception of a used 2006 Tundra that I had for about a year (that had tons of issues). All my Chevy trucks had problems.. but my most recent 2017 Silverado had a catastrophic failure (Transmission) and that was the last straw for me. I'm hoping my new Honda is as reliable as my research leads me to think it will be.
Good real world review. I want the most comfortable ride so I need to drive a Trailsport and the RT-L to compare. The dual action tailgate and trunk is whats really pushing me away from a new Colorado. Its going to be a daily driver for my wife so she wants a smooth suv like ride
Same the larger interior dimensions, the backseat space, and the swing out tailgate for me = "work smart not work hard" It has a more laid back, mature look thats growing on me.. the price is amazing.. i am overpaying 100$ a month but it is what it is
Pulled trigger on 24 Trailsport after leasing a 21 Sport. No-brainer purchase compared to every other mid-size truck in the market. Great video & review - now get back to that nap!
I’ve has mine since 5/18/24. I agree about the back seat head rests. If your tailgate is down, you just see the ground and you can’t back up with the driver’s door open to see where you are at. Throws it back in park. I bought the midrange model so I don’t have the grill “hey you’re getting too close!” alarm or the power ports in the bed. I wished I would have ponied up the other $5K to get the front parking sensor, and it is not available as an aftermarket add-on through Honda. I still have trouble judging with some vehicles, esp. if parking behind trucks with the extended trailer hitches 🤬. But so far I’ve erred on the side of caution and had to scoot up a little closer.
Joe, I may be biased since I have owned Ridgelines since '09 after having four full size pickup trucks from '83 until then. Recently I wanted to get a new truck. I looked at all the mid size pickups except the Jeep. The most comfortable, spacious interior and AWD at all times the 2nd Gen felt like,;" Honey, I'm home "! Honorable mention to the Ranger. But no AWD for when we used to have winter. Don't get side steps for the look . They are usually in the way for ingress/ egress. Hopefully you get some time for more content on your RL.
Im still driving a Dodge Dakota 2006 and have recently been researching new mid sized trucks. Until recently Honda was never even on my radar however the more research i do on the Ridgeline the better i like it. I have owned a turbocharged vehicle in the past and once the turbo charger goes out the vehicle is literally worthless not to mention very expensive to repair. Its a shame the other trucks are all migrating to turbo charged 4 cylinder engines which will always be a deal breaker for me personally. Thanks for this informative video.
I've never really considered a mid-size truck. They always seemed too small/compact on the interior. But I've come to realize I no longer need a full size truck and mid-size is more practical for someone like me. In my opinion.. the Ridgeline is the best mid-size for the money. Unless you need more than 5000lb towing.. this truck will do everything better then the rest.
Thanks for the honest opinion. I always thought they were too expensive but they are now comparable to the Rangers and Tacomas since they all are in the $40K range now. It is the perfect truck for the average family with a house and yardwork, etc. (The only thing to remember later on as it is around 100K miles, is it has a timing belt rather than a timing chain, so don't miss that maintenance.)
Yes! I remember when a fully loaded full-size truck was under $40k. Not anymore. In 2004 I purchased a fully loaded Chevy Avalanche for $36k and I was so stressed about spending so much money on a truck. Now $36k would be a bargain for any new vehicle.. never mind a fully loaded truck. 😐
@@randomstuffwithjoe Yes exactly. My loaded 2005 Ford Ranger FX4 listed for $28K and I thought that was outrageous (luckily they were giving great discounts back then and I think I got $7K off.) (My first new fullsized truck was in 1979 and for a basic stripped down Ford F100 stepside it was only $4200. after discounts.....6 months later, it got stolen in Dedham, MA and stripped and insurance gave me $5K for it...they found it in Rosindale near some projects.)
If he wants black wheels they're stupid easy to paint yourself. It's amazing what you can do with a rattle can, tape and a scotch bright pad to give the metal enough tooth to paint on. I did a gun metal grey on an Audi S4 I had several years ago and it looked fantastic. It's an easy afternoon project.
2021 Black Edition. It’s funny when you said the interior has to feel spacious, my sentiments exactly. Tried the Tacoma, Ford, and Chevy and going from a full size Tundra this was the one that felt the most comparable inside. Honda reliability was also important to me as my last two trucks were a 07 Taco and 12 Tundra.
Joe, your video on the Ridgeline is well done, thank you. I have viewed severeal and some of the salesman who rush through which is anoying for a senor driver. I am hoping to be able to trade for a Honda Ridgeline. Thank You
Thanks for this excellent review. It had the details the other reviews leave out, and it’s the most helpful Ridgeline review IMO. I’m seriously thinking about the 2025 Trailsport, which I’ve heard may get some of the 2024 pilot’s improvements. Eagerly awaiting the announcement on the ‘25.
Hey Joe, nice truck. You were brave to dump the traditional, full size truck for Honda. Great choice if you don't hard-core off-road or need massive towing.
Wow - as a former full sized truck owner I thought you would have more less than positive comments but there were none. I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that I bought new and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have the RT model which is bare bones but I still love it. One thing you did not mention or perhaps don't know about is that the new Ridgelines have Honda's variable cylinder management (VCM) system which shuts off cylinders at various times to improve gas mileage. I think they have refined it over the years but is has been problematic for my wife's 2010 Honda Accord V6 until I finally bypassed the system. You might want to do some research on the history of Honda and VCM. Other than that, happy motoring!
Thank you so much for your honest review on the 2024 Honda Ridgeline RTL - pros & con. Later in this year, I will purchase the Black Edition - hopefully, there's a Black Edition available then.
Thanks Joe. I just purchased a 24 Ridgeline RTL a couple of days ago. So I’ve been looking at videos looking at people thought on the vehicle. I’ve had a frontier and a Silverado in the past just has to be the most comfortable ride. Thanks again.
Ya, I did the same. There are a lot of "test drive" reviews.. but there weren't many owner reviews.. so I thought the video might be helpful. I have discovered something I don't like tho. The hump in the floor where the e-brake is located.. I wish it were more flat so I could stretch out my left leg more on longer drives. But its not a deal-breaker...
I have a 23 RTL. It is probably the most utilitarian contrivance as I've ever had. After I installed the running boards, I no longer feel the need to put a leveling kit on the front. The body lines mostly present an illusion of it being lower in the front.
Like you I enjoy my ‘ 21 Ridgeline. I’ve made several of the mods, VCM, & auto-stop delete, oil catch can plus updated wheels. I removed the nerf bars because they weren’t necessary. Took mine on Route 66 and enjoyed every minute of the drive. It is an unrated truck to most but for me the most comfortable and easiest to drive truck I’ve ever owned. Currently considering a’25 if they stay true to their tradition with a few enhancements.
I don't think the '25 will change much if at all. Maybe new color options? They just did a refresh in '24 so I think it'll be at least 26-27 before we see any changes. But who knows. I'd love to do the entire Rte 66 on my motorcycle. That would be an amazing trip.
Good review. Fellow Masshole here. I also take trips to Vermont (Burke) regularly and see the same mileage. Just got a 24 Trailsport and had a 19 RTL-T. I've owned Tacomas and an older Ranger and there is no comparison. I don't tow anything but a log splitter on occasion so it's perfect. I'm a carpenter and a mountain biker and is great for that. Love the trunk and my pup loves laying down in the back with the seats up. Until somebody else comes up with a dual open tailgate and a trunk, I won;t consider anything else.
Loved your review! I've been researching mid size pickups, (coming from an F150) for almost a year, I rarely need the 6 ft bed (Unless helping a friend move...aargh!) My wife refuses to drive my F150 because it's "too big". I don't need to go 0-60 in 3 seconds with the turbo's/ Hybrids. My commute is 1 mile! I've never owned a Honda before, but I've owned 6 Acura's, so I probably have the Honda vibe. You hit all the points I'm interested in in your review. Thank you!
Yes! I’m actually surprised at how much I’m enjoying this truck compared to past full size trucks I’ve owned. I’m very happy with my choice.
Love my it’s the most American made truck, made in Lincoln Alabama about 30 miles north of Birmingham Alabama, I have the 2024 Trailsport
Excellent information. Thanks for your thoughts on your Honda.
Right on!

I've had my 2024 RTL version for a month. I can only echo what I'm reading here. This is a really great vehicle.
i have 2013 with 130,000 miles.
How much was the replacement of timing belt ?
My wife has one, and when I do get the chance to drive it, I'm jealous. It's so quiet and smooth, along with so much storage. Really nice.
Just bought the same truck yesterday same color only used it one day. I like it very much. Thanks for your review.
I love my 2024 Ridgeline a lot. It is so wonderful and designed for function and comfort.
I absolutely agree.
Great to hear All of these positive reviews. Just purchased the 2025 Ridgeline yesterday.
Good luck with it. I’m about 6 months and 8500 miles now and still love it.
I have the 2024 Black Edition and thoroughly enjoy it. I had a 2013 Ram 1500 before this and love the Honda ride so much better.
Bought the new 2024 Trailsport three months ago and freaking love it. Had two RTLs and loved those, too. But the Trailsport is amazing.
You nail it!!
This is exact content I was looking for. Thank you!
Ridgeline it is!!!
I relate to almost all your comments. When you make the appearance modifications, like leveling, etc…, please do another video.
I’m in Massachusetts. So I’ll look forward to playing in the snow. 😀
Great review. I have a 2013 ridgeline with over 270,000 kms and no issues or concerns. Enjoy your new ride !
I’m considering trading my Tacoma too, any regrets so far?
@@Retep33 none , if you don’t go off-road the Ridgeline does everything you need in a pickup and the trunk is extremely useful, the back seat you can actually put adults in. Take one for a test drive and see what you think, good luck.
@@stevepatch1809 awesome, thanks!!
I own an RTLE 2020, it's the first vehicle I kept for three years. I love it
Honda ridgeline does have a real frame built-in the unibody, That few talk about in reviews .
I just purchased a 2023 RTL-E with 4,200 miles, I really enjoy it. Good review!
@@randomstuffwithjoe That's my issue with the truck, it really is not a good looking truck at all. Honda needs to update this platform.
I was worried about trading down to a mid size. But I’m really happy with my choice. I’m really enjoying this truck.
@@AlowisciousMahoney , as I get older, less serious off-road and less towing.
All weather floor mats are on my list of things to do before the winter months. Congrats on your new truck.
@@randomstuffwithjoe Consider Tuxmats. I had the weather tech but much prefer the Tux.
thanks for this video. I just picked myself up a Black Edition last week and I'm very satisfied with it
Beautiful truck.
Its more practical for my type of driving than my Silverado was.
whats HUD?

No doubt. I wouldn't have traded my Silverado if the transmission hadn't failed. I wanted to.. but it was hard to do since it was paid for. But once the transmission failed.. on top of needing new tires.. and it just wasn't a good decision to fix it. Trade was the only option...

The Auto-Start/Stop disable module is the best add on ever for my '21 Ridgeline... 2nd best add on is the VCM defeat module.. Highly recommend both
Can you post a link to the auto stop disable module?
Please put out another video on your truck as you go about using it.
Very impressed by the truck and your reporting.
Will do. I’ll do either a 3 or 6 month update. Thx for watching.
There’s no info regarding a hybrid option. I doubt it’ll be in 2025. Prob at least another 3 years if at all.
I 100% agree with everything you said and me being a Tacoma owner. Same as you, mine is paid for and there’s no need to buy anything else. Just as a suggestion, your mpgs will do better if you air up you tires to 36 psi. I think Honda has them at 32 psi for comfort.
My tires were aired up at 38psi on delivery which is where I’d probably keep them anyway. Thx for watching.
Try the Trailsport. Amazing truck.
Right on
Agree with everything you said, I have 2023 came from full size also . This truck just fits life all around. Have same color with roof rack and same trim level. My only complaint is not having the LED daytime running lights. Great honest review
Ya the LED lights should be standard all around.
I really like this truck! Great ride and reliability!
I just bought a 2012 Rtl with 175k on it and i really love it so far great truck lots of storage and kids fit great in the back
Good revue, as a long term "real truck owner" I will never go back and my ridgeline does everything I need a truck to do, and has so many positives and little negatives..
I bought a 2024 Honda Ridgeline trail sport awesome vehicle.
One of the best vehicles on the road and it’s the best truck for its class.
Without a doubt its the most versatile truck.. tho some people will still say its not a real truck. lol
There was nothing wrong with the 2017 truck but
I just decided to upgrade to the newer model.
How many miles do you think you could have put on the 2017 if you kept it … is 400k possible ?
I have a Black Edition 2024 Ridgeline .. and you're correct. It's a homerun for mid-size truck owners (that don't need a purest off-road machine).
ya.. but oddly, many people don't give it a solid look because they "think" its not a real truck.
I agree 100% the Honda is awesome!!!
Good real world review. I want the most comfortable ride so I need to drive a Trailsport and the RT-L to compare. The dual action tailgate and trunk is whats really pushing me away from a new Colorado. Its going to be a daily driver for my wife so she wants a smooth suv like ride
I have a 2022 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E. Love this Truck. Hauls all i need it to. Great for long haul road trips. Grear fuel. Why buy anything else.
Same the larger interior dimensions, the backseat space, and the swing out tailgate for me = "work smart not work hard"
It has a more laid back, mature look thats growing on me.. the price is amazing.. i am overpaying 100$ a month but it is what it is
My father has a 2009 Honda ridge line. Great truck - minimal problems.
Pulled trigger on 24 Trailsport after leasing a 21 Sport. No-brainer purchase compared to every other mid-size truck in the market. Great video & review - now get back to that nap!
Ha... nap time's over. Back to work. Congrats on the new truck.
I definitely would choose the Honda next would be the Frontier. I think Honda offers much for the price and with a proven reliablility.
The Nissan was too cramped for interior space tho. I'm not sure I would've gone to a mid-size truck if it weren't for the Honda.
Joe,
I may be biased since I have owned Ridgelines since '09 after having four full size pickup trucks from '83 until then.
Don't get side steps for the look
. They are usually in the way for ingress/ egress.
Hopefully you get some time for more content on your RL.
Wow! This is exactly what I have been looking for! Great review!
Thx for watching. Glad it was helpful.
You will love the Ridgeline, got the 2024 Trailsport in march Best Buy for the money
If this Ridgeline is even half as reliable as my Honda lawn mower.. it'll last a very long time. lol
Joe, your video on the Ridgeline is well done, thank you. I have viewed severeal and some of the salesman who rush through which is anoying for a senor driver. I am hoping to be able to trade for a Honda Ridgeline. Thank You
Thanks, Good review 3.5 V6 Awsome truck!!!!! 😊
I actually love the chrome. Looks old school and classy which contrasts nicely with the obviously new color and 2024 look. It’s a real beauty!
If you decied to put a leveling kit on pease have the headlights ajusted so your not blinding oncoming traffic
I love my 2013 RTL, one thing is hitting the unlock twice and keep unlock button held down all of the windows roll down. Great in the summer !!!
Hey neighbor. lol. I agree with everything you said.
Loved your review!
I've been researching mid size pickups, (coming from an F150) for almost a year,
I rarely need the 6 ft bed (Unless helping a friend move...aargh!)
My wife refuses to drive my F150 because it's "too big".
I don't need to go 0-60 in 3 seconds with the turbo's/ Hybrids. My commute is 1 mile!
I've never owned a Honda before, but I've owned 6 Acura's, so I probably have the Honda vibe.
You hit all the points I'm interested in in your review.
Thank you!
It’s a solid choice. I am not missing my Silverado at all.
my wife refused to drive "my" Ram 1500 because it was too big. However she loves driving "our" Ridgeline.
