I have the same truck ridgeline 2024 and same color grey/black . I have zero problems so far . It’s great on gas instead driving a full truck . Ridgeline 2024 is my daily to go
@@randomstuffwithjoeI live in upstate New York and in the winter the full led lights on my 23 4runner ice over often. The heat halogen light puts out will melt ice so you can see LOL. Of course if you don't do a lot of night driving it's not an issue.
If hasn't snowed much in the 4 years I've had my RTL-E but the headlights and radar under the Honca badge do get covered in ice. Otherwise it's great in bad weather. 😊
I bought a 2024 Black Edition 2 months ago.I am 6’4” tall and I have absolutely no problems with the front seat comfort or foot positions. The ride is fantastic.I did the idle stopper before I hit 100 miles.Extremely easy to do.Took me 10 minutes. Also ordered the s-vcm disabler, that’s next.Yes it’s missing some key features but I feel it’s still worth the price.
I’m only 5’4" sp lots of room. That left foot pad is I think the "dead pedal" for bracing yourself in the seat. I like the collision mitigation. It’s braked once when I needed it.
Yeah he makes no sense with that complaint. If that wasn't there your left foot wouldn't be in line with the right foot. Northeastern logic I guess....
The hump in the drivers leftside floorboard is to re enforce the floor board in a offset collision and keep the tire from pushing the floorboard up and breaking your left foot.
I’m sure there’s a good explanation for it, I just wish they could’ve designed it better to allow for more leg room. But again, not a deal breaker for me as I’m only 5’10”.
I have a 2018 Ridgeline that just turned 100.000 miles and I still love it. Other than normal maintenance I have not had to replace a single part, not even a light bulb. Extremely smooth handling and ride. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Yes the dual action takes away the ability to have a damper on one side. I like the dual action much much more than I'd ever care to have a damped tailgate. But thanks so much for your honest assessment and review. I really enjoyed it.
I live in Canada and am on my second Ridgeline , 2017 and 2021 and pretty well have the same beefs. Most disliked is the button shifter ; trucks need stick shift . Love the truck though.
Dang Dave, I absolutely love the shifting mechanism in my 21 Ridgeline. I live and drive in the Rocky Mountains year round. The paddle shifters are fantastic, instantaneously selective, very effective control up/down grade, adverse weather, snow, ice, slush, rain, rarely use my brakes. Practice with it, put it through a series of tests, I’m positive you will come to enjoy the experience and control.
I bought a New 2019 AWD 'T' model. Now 76000 miles in 5 years. I drive it locally daily around 20 miles. Comprising both 'street' and 2 lane paved country roads. Also take several, hundred mile trips to other states once or twice a year... I do the maintenance at my Local Honda Dealer (only 1 mile from my house) per the book and any free 'replacements' like the fuel pump warranty item and similar. I love the truck. (I call it a car that Can Haul 2 motorcycles and all my related supplies anywhere I want to go.) Including driving 'mild' dirt roads up in the mountains on vacations... I love my Gear Shift Lever! (NO buttons for me!) I also love the 'T' model's Right side-mirror Camera feature that goes on when you hit your right turn signal! THIS should be standard. :) I haven't seen anything in newer models I have thought was an 'Improvement'. :( No Thanks. I Love mine. Even considering the Expensive 100, K service at my dealer!) (Silly stuff like a Manual tappet adjustment system the SAME design as on my original 1967 Honda 50 motorcycle! But I will say....at least those tappets design are reliable!) :) Also: Expensive replacement of rubber timing belt 'requiring' replacing the Water Pump while you are in there!... and several similar items I think saves THEM costs in construction. Then WE pay extra for the service routine. But! I think it is utterly reliable and is worth it. (PS: I am a Toyota small pickup then New T100 and 'bought used' early Tundra V8 guy.) Both theT100 and Tundra were tough and decent priced to have the rubber timing belt changed! My T100 had 300K miles with regular maintenance when I sold it.... I LOVE my 2019 Honda! :D Newer ones? No thanks! :)
Purchased a 24 B/E Ridgeline, downsized from a 2010 F150 with 175K, Love this Truck with every drive. Need 360 cameras and ALL LED lights interior and exterior. The Auto stop is required by Federal DOT and I also hate it, just press the switch. This Truck is perfect for 90% of homeowners . I Purchased the B/E to get the ventilated seats to deal with the South Ga heat.
I would’ve liked to get the BE. At the time I purchased my RTL, it was the only truck available within a 200 mile radius due to the stop sale order. I would’ve waited it out, except my transmission crapped out on my Silverado and I needed a new vehicle immediately so I had to take what I could get. But I’m still pleased with the RTL.
I have a 2023 RTL and these are my impressions of the five things you hate. Left foot area is awkward. I LIKE the push button trans. Strreamelines the buttons and allows easier movememt of drinks and phones. Idle stop is common, if not required, across all brands. I’ve driven Suburus where the abrupt restart is really rough. Not sure why tailgate not dampened. I love my Ridgeline.
I’m actually loving the RL as well. My gripes were minor and I really had to dig deep to come up with them for the purpose of making a video. lol. My next video will be 5 things I love about it.
I also hate push button trans which I have in my 2021 Honda Accord. They do away on Civic models last year and if they would on Ridgeline next year I’d buy one!
I had a RIdgeline for years. 06 RTL 250,000 miles. I put the lift on it and I went to a larger tire. It looked awesome, but it wears out the front CV axles much faster do to the angle of the drive shafts. I took it off after 10 years and many cv axles. I loved the independent suspension, the storage was amazing under seats and the trunk. Amazing in the snow. Best truck ever made for a mid sized truck.
I have a 2017 touring ridgeline and is a great truck. I take it on the bush roads fairly often and always surprised by the stability and traction - great AWD system.
Agree on your points. I still love my ridgeline. I imagine how much cheaper they could sell the truck without the collision mitigation system, lane keeping, etc which most drivers never really use.
I had the same problem with the collision mitigation on my Honda Accord. I complain to the service department and they recalibrated the sensors and things were 100% better.... I hope that helps
A lot of your complaints are adjustable on this radio screen settings. Going into “vehicle” settings, and change collision, mitigation sensitivity, or tailgate unlocks with the rest of vehicle all at once. you’ll find 30 items in there to adjust
I own a 2020, RTL-E, 42,000 miles. Agree with your points. Lane mitigation falsely activated perhaps 3 times during ownership. No braking, but caused the dash to light up and audible warning. The thing I dislike most is the momentary pause of the transmission when shifting from park, reverse or drive. Seems the tranny needs to ‘think’ for a fraction of a second. Otherwise, love the truck. Install a 2” front lift with the 265 Falcon tires. Will look so much better. Better clearance and no impact to drive ability. Also install an Oil Catch Can as the gas direct injection is very bad for the engine.
Good points about the Ridgeline. Our 2015 highlander has a similar dead-pedal hump to the ridgeline, but they sit different somehow. I'm 6'3 and sometimes the dead pedal bothers me to. The Care Care Nut YT'er says the pushbutton is a result of the ZF 9 speed Honda used for the ridgeline. The adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and collision mitigation are all pretty bad in the Hondas. I haven't had any emergency braking but the warning has come up several times. The lane keep assist just disables itself with only a small, brief message on the dashboard that I never notice. The adaptive cruise control fluctuates the throttle too rapidly, creates a surging effect that you can see if you drive with the MPG slider. The good thing is you can disable them if they bother you, but like you, I would have liked a better working safety net with these systems. I have a 2024 RTL in white that I bought in May, I came from an 2006 f150 that I owned since new. I do miss the cab room, but I'm happy with my purchase. Thanks for the 2 videos with your shares on the ridgeline.
I have an identical '24 RTL but Lunar Silver. I agree with 2 points, the others don't bother me in the slightest. 1- Having to turn off the idle stop after each start up. 2- Road mitigation. I noticed the sensitivity a couple times. The situation was- 2 lanes traveling in the same direction on a curve to the right. I just turned it off.
My Ridgeline is 2022 & I agree with your points. The left leg footrest, the trans buttons can be confusing (they could have just had multi-traction & auto start-stop buttons) just used a shifter. You’d think start-stop would wear out the starter. My daytime running lights are the LED “eyebrows” that curve around under the headlight bulbs. Also the accident prevention sensors, yeah, I was going to pass a slow truck, pulled around, guess I was too close so truck mashes brakes & vehicle behind almost rear ended me! Otherwise, yeah, love the truck but am leasing & only have months left. With prices I may get a Civic!!
Same thing happen to me in my 2019 Passat and scared the crap out of me. I was sure the truck behind me thought i was brake checking him, so i am very carful now not to get to close to the car Infront of me. Haven't noticed it in the Ridgeline jet. Thanks for the comments, very interesting!
The dead pedal hump is necessary to make room for left front wheelwell. The pushbutton trans is fine. The autostop defaults to ON each start to help Honda meet the mandated federal Corp Avg Fuel Economy (CAFE) levels. The rear tailgate can not function both ways if it's soft open. The Haligen lights can melt snow in northern climates. I believe there are LED repkacement bulbs you can substitute. None are really issues.
my biggest complaint was the plastic gear that is used for the rear seats to fold the bar out of the way... My ridgeline rear seats gear broke on one side so while I had it apart I replaced them both with an aluminum gear.
Great comments and right on. My collision sensor does what your does and flashes every so often. The push button shift is different and getting used to it for the smooth German transmission. I like the stop start function as it does not sit and idle in traffic. Does help city mileage. Love the swing away feature on the tail gate. Good video. I have the black edition so no headlight issue. Joe
I have a 2017 Ridgeline. 100K miles. Once in awhile the collision mitigation has activated a few times when oncoming traffic was in their lane. Those few times are worth the annoyance of the minor instances vs a collision. As far as the tailgate goes it is difficult to engineer the soft stop vs the cost of the cable.
Just sat in my first Ridgeline today at the dealer. It might be a good fit for us, but we'll probably go with the Tacoma or Tundra. That raised foot section is pretty common on AT vehicles. The button shifter is different, but is less in the way than other AT methods. That does seem strange to not have LEDs everywhere...I've replaced many on our older 4runner and Sienna. The tailgate seems so tiny and light compared to the one on our F150, but I can understand that after needing to slam the truck one a bit. Glad to hear the safety feature is adjustable. We've had a similar problem on our '22 Sienna, but with cross traffic when at slow speeds, including starting to cross a street when the cars are still far away. We turned the feature off for a while, and I don''t think that was adjustable for us. I don't mind the auto-off feature on the F150, and am more bugged when it isn't triggered for some reason. It restarts when I start to let up on the brake, and is plenty fast. The new Sienna is a hybrid, so it uses EV at slow speeds anyways. But the F150 V6 ecoboost is so twitchy anyways that I just never completely mash the pedal when stopped. Without turbos or EV, the Ridgeline just wouldn't have as much low end torque, so it's not as easy to fly off the line. But is it really that bad, or is it just like the shifter that it is different?
Liked your video, I at 1st hated the looks of the 1st gen Ridgeline, then started carpooling in one. After a few months I fell in love with these trucks. After many years of full size Chevy, and fords I purchased a 2013 RTL Navi and I must say it could replace my wife. Very dependable. Quiet, now with 165,000 miles with minimal maintenance. Will eventually replace it with another new Ridgeline 😢. Maybe keep the old one around for early onset hoarding syndrome.
Shopping for new vehicle/truck and zeroing in on the Ridgeline. This was helpful, particularly pointing out that hump that keeps a left leg from full extension. I’ve rented cars with that hump and it becomes very uncomfortable during long trips, at least for taller drivers.
Depending on how tall you are.. it could become a bigger or smaller issue. I'm 5'10". I spend a lot of time in my truck during the day and sometimes it can bother me. But it doesn't bother me enough that I regret the purchase. I still like this truck better then all the other options in the mid-size class.
I have a 23 Passport and it also has that hump. Over time, I have developed left leg pain because of it. I am over 6 feet tall. It is very uncomfortable and one of the things i wish I could change about it.
Just push your seat a bit back and it won't bother you. I have this bump in my Pilot for the last 6 years - didn't even think about it until watched this video. I'm 5'10 tall
I bought a 2021 Ridgeline sport and traded it in after 39000 trouble free miles for a 2023 Ridgeline RTL both vehicles nearly identical except for RTL upgrades. I use it for everything and it is a pleasure to drive on long and short trips especially towing either my box trailer or open one. You didn't mention the fold down seats which create a huge space for hauling tools, pets etc.Lastly, be sure to keep it it great condition as the trade in values are excellent as there are many buyers who love Honda products but cannot purchase brand new due to their budget.
You nailed it. I've had mine for six months and I 100% agree with your list! I would also add the adaptive cruise control. It feels like a teenager is driving my car when it's one, throttle, idle, throttle, idle. It's terrible!
I have a 2025 Ridgeline, 6 weeks old. I have the exact dislikes as you . I don’t like the push button shifter as my number one. I purchased a Ridgeline instead of a Frontier based on your tutorial . I had three Frontiers in the last 25 years. Thanks
Agree with eshift. Wish they kept or bring back stick. About LED, I don't care much about daylight or bed lights, but I did not like high beam light not being LED. Wish they raised ground clearance 2". About the foot rest, I actually like it, maybe because I am not tall and don't have long legs.About crash mitigation, mine does not do that. It flashed warning signs few times but did not apply breaks.
I agree with you. The wheel well/left foot area was the first thing that made me walk away. The push button shift is terrible, I had it in a Lincoln and said never again. The other issues you have are noteworthy also. Good job on this. Honda makes good vehicles but too plain.
You can try to remove the Fuse for the automatic re-start buttom. Just make sure what else will be turned off with. On F-150 is the same fuse for toll lights.
I have a 23 and the auto stop start will not work if you have your AC set up to hi you can lower your fans speed, but if you keep the temperature at hi it won't activate.Mine actually only activates when the AC is turned completely off. It's something about the battery pull that causes the on and off to not activate if you're using a lot of other electrical items in the vehicle to prevent it from not being able to restart. Also, you have to push the brake pedal all the way down, fairly hard to get the stop start to activate you'll learn the sweet spot of pushing on the brake pedal so that it doesnt activate I've had my collision management brake light come on if I am turning and there's a telephone pole etc , but it's never activated the brakes you can adjust the sensitivity in the vehicle settings. When I open my tailgate, I don't just let it drop like that can cause damage to the tailgate or camera even if you have an older truck you shouldn't just let it fall like that continuously. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the dual action tailgate as to why there cannot be a dampering on it.
I feel your pain with the auto stop/start feature, and the tailgate, I have a Mitsubishi Triton that has the same two features. I have to manually disable the start/stop feature every time, a pain because the button is hard to see/get too. Anyway, same with the tailgate, very heavy and no soft close feature. I really like the Ridgeline and will probably get one in the future, like you said about the issues, not really deal breakers. Some of the issues would be pennies for a manufacturer to fix and create a better driving experience for the customer which in turn would lead to more sales, a win win for everybody! C' mon Honda/Mitsubishi, get with the program!
Good video. We are seriously considering a Ridgeline for our next vehicle. It seems to be very versatile. We rarely go off-road and never pull anything. Just don't need a body on frame truck anymore. I've had Tacomas and F-150 before. Love a Tacoma but want to stay with a V6 that has a better ride as well.
I have a 24 BE Sonic Grey and its a good truck no doubt.. the engine, ride comfort , its quiet, interior space , awd system, dual action tail gate, in bed trunk all good things BUT at an MSRP of 48,200 for black edition sonic gray they really half ass it on some features/options.. i feel other trucks/suv execute these way better.. Adaptive cruise is not stop and go. it wont work below 25 mph. blind spot monitoring does not work below 20mph so you better be careful on your slow merges.. there are no front center parking sensors, they are only in the front corners so antyhing more centered it wont detect.. it wont detect a parking pole and in my case i have a tandem parking spot and it wont detect my other car when i pull up to it yes seriously.. the vented seats are too weak even on high feel like its barley working.. the vented seats in my grand cherokee work way better.. why no 360 or front cam option? also the only way to turn on reverse cam is the truck must be in reverse.. why no quick look view so i can quick check that all is good in my tow hitch setup .. why no hill descent control? its in a crv but not a ridgeline ,, why? and finally the bed is pretty shallow if you put a tonneau cover on you only have 16 inches of depth which is really restrictive in useability. hoping the next gen ridgeline has better execution on its options/features..
Wow, you mentioned every reason to NOT get a Ridgeline. Why did you even get one? Sure, it would be nice to have all of those things, but it wouldn't be 48k. I had all of that and more in my 75k Ram limited and wouldn't expect it on a 48k truck. I chose the RL because of the price and the features you get for that price.
@@Bansheemyk2001 lol yeah im pointing out a bit of dislikes but i also said there are good things about it.. on paper the BE looks to offer a lot of features. my dislike is that these features dont work as well as some other cars. my example is blnd spot monitoring, thats a great feature to have and lot of cars today have it standard BUT why does Honda set it not work below 20mph? that seems high. my GC went as low as 6mph. some do it even at a stop it will tell you somthing is there.. ACC doesnt work below 25mph. its like why do they kinda half ass these features.. my GC and Forrester had ACC with stop and go.. price point wise they are in same ball park.. so its like yeah on paper you see all these features and you're like great its fully optioned but then after you realize wow they dont work as good as same features i had in my other cars.. i took it for granted that seeing a list of features and i was set but didnt realize after using everthing that its not as good as some other cars.. that being said i still like how the car drives, its nice and roomy. back seat veratility with the flip up seats. the inbed trunk. the dual action tailgate. the engine seems to pull nice and seems pretty quick when you step on it. awb works well..the suv like drive is better than other mid size for on road daily driving. i also got a good deal on a lease so factor eveything in its an overall good truck to get as long as you are not needing serious off road capability.
I totally agree with you on the shifter and the overly sensitive safety systems.. And I too like a truck that sits up high and has lots of interior room and lots of head room. (I am 6' 2").. I like safety systems that make sense, but not too many odd ball safety systems.. I think that vehicles today try do way too much to include too many safety systems.
@@owequitit well that’s BS. If you can turn it off as an option, no way you can’t turn it on by choice. Time for you to chill. It was only a suggestion.
Thanks for sharing your views on the Ridgeline.. As far as the push button shifter.. I TOTALLY agree with you.. I would much rather want a traditional stick shifter... Almost every youtube reviewer of a vehicle or person I talk to prefers a traditional shifter - instead of the push button shifter.. Like you mentioned - even a column shifter would have been better.. Not sure how a company like Honda (and Acura) would force every one to have use a push button shifter.. when most people don't want (and don't like) a push button shifter.. Maybe Honda should make a push button shifter an option..
I really liked the Ridgeline, but I haul sensitive equipment under my tonneau and the box just wasn't deep enough. Just wouldn't work for me. But it is a great truck.
I get that. The bed is definitely not as deep as other trucks, but for most homeowners it’s perfectly fine. And the under bed trunk and dual tailgate are game changers.
Damn I bought the same fire pit you have now I am looking at the same truck. I think I am going with the chevy Colorado on this one Joe. It's the best cash value for the money. I just got my Breeo today I will do a first burn in it when the weather cools down a bit. Yes sir, midsize for me is the best. These things cost around 45,000 plus.
Hey Joe. I really like your review of the Ridgeline. I currently have a 2013 Silverado 238.000 Klms and I love my truck but its getting up there in age and will eventually need to replace it, have you seen the price on new trucks. I see allot of the Ridgelines here in Ottawa Ontario Canada and I really like the looks of the vehicle, I would go with a cap to accommodate things we bring to the cottage in the shallow bed. You indicated that allot of your 5 things were not deal breakers and I agree. I am not a fan sun roofs as I do keep my vehicles for long periods of time and this would be a leak issue down the road but over all a great review very informative thanks for this.
I’m not 100% certain, but I believe the base trim (sport) does not have a sunroof. But it also has cloth interior instead of leather. If you’re ok with that.. it’s still a pretty nice truck and it’s less expensive.
Totally agree. I have a 2023. Same dislikes. Idle stop default not selectable, collision mitigation too sensitive, radar cruise backs off too soon even when distance is set to minimum. Lets not forget the data collection that all cars do now.
Good review, I can certainly agree with some of you complaints. Auto start/stop is very annoying. I think I'll wait for hopefully a 2026 redesign before grabbing one.
I have a 2021 hpd, I’m on the phone or listening to a news report, if I shut the truck off, radio or cell call turns off the truck system and pressing the accessories takes a minute or more to come back on. Has this been fixed on later models ?? Any way around this ??? Robert
-For the dead pedal, most vehicles have it like that.. -For the stop/start - I have a 2023 santa fe that has a button like yours to turn it off. I found the smallest zip tie I could find, cut most of it off and shoved the rest down beside the button. Hopefully that makes sense, so this keeps the button pressed down forever which turns the system off every time I start the vehicle and doesn't hurt anything. When/if I want the system on then I just remove the zip tie and nobody knows the difference. Cost a whole what.. 2 cents? See if this will work in your scenario.
I have a 2023 RTL. For your collision mitigation system, you can set it to “close” and it will not be so aggressive. Hate to admit it, but it’s saved my ass once. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the engine stop / start feature, and I would add in that I would love a full sized spare on the truck. Also, I would add 360 cameras and cargo lights integrated into the center brake light.
My dealer does the free service based on when the truck says it needs it. My first service was done at 4800 miles.. no charge.. at only 2.5 months (I drive a lot for work).
I can relate to the lane departure/collision mitigation feature being way too sensitive. I turned mine off in my Civic when the system stabbed my brakes sharply while steering widely around another vehicle appeared to be looking for an address etc. I was no where close to the vehicle and the only thing I could think of that the sensors were viewing as a hazard were the painted lines of a left turn lane that half of my car was in and a painted closed V on the other side of the intersection. This was in a very rural commercial area on a two lane road(no traffic/obstacles). My biggest fear after that occurrence was would the system stab at the brakes while I was trying to pass on the freeway if the car I was passing sped up to close the gap(definitely a so calif bad habit) in addition to approaching a slower moving vehicle that may also tap their brakes(with nobody in front of them…again So California habits) ergo initiating the safety system to put me in harms way midway while passing. A lot of these systems are still in their infancy. I like the blind spot monitoring/cross traffic alerts etc. but not a fan of this one particular feature myself…
Your video to me was ok. I really do wish the stop start function could be turned off and be done with it. I have a 2020 BE, and I love it. I don’t like the newer ones because for one, the hood looks like it is open, I don’t like the way how they have stamped Ridgeline across the tailgate. I love the gear shifter…Anyway, thanks 👍
The front collision sensers function the same over different year model Ridgelines, Pilots and Passports as in a "false" activation even as the oncoming traffic is well in their lane. The push button gear selection has been in the Ridgeline since 2020. The rattle at the rear when the truck is running, all of them do that (my 2020 Ridgeline and 2019 Passport included). You NEED the halogen high beams because ice and snow WILL cover up the LEDS and may set the front sensors warning light.
Great job on the five things. I own a Passport and really love the vehicle but have a very similar list. The only difference is after 66,000 miles, I still “hate”, the push button shifter. Maybe the reason I go with a different brand next time (probably not)😂
I think with most of the new cars, you need to disable the stop/start feature each time. The Subaru I recently bought, you have to disable it each time too. (although like you said, there are aftermarket kits you can buy to disable that feature.) For the issue re: location of your left foot, they would have to move the whole cabin back more, since I'm sure that is where the wheelwell is.
I've never had a vehicle with the stop/start feature. Tho my wife's car has it and she doesn't seem to mind it. I'm getting used to pressing the button every time I get in the truck.. but if it continues to annoy me.. I may just get the chip to disable it. The bump in the floor is slightly annoying.. but like I said, none of these issues are deal breakers for me.
@@randomstuffwithjoe On the Subaru I sometimes forget to push the button until I get to a stop light. Then when I try to disable it, it is in a group of 6 buttons so sometimes push the wrong button. With the Ridgeline at least the button is all by itself (although somewhat awkward to reach back there.)
Collision mitigation can be adjusted to make it less sensitive. Be careful in turning it off, your insurance might penalize you if you get in an accident.
That collision mitigation on my Honda Accord always activated and I hated it. It once slammed on the brakes when a plastic bag blew across the road in front on me. I’m sure the vehicle behind me were not too happy.
some cars can be reprogrammed via softwere, to reverse the auto start/stop switch, so it is off by default and you need to press the button to turn it on, might be worth the research.
I wish these auto makers would make it so that when you turn it off.. it stays off until you turn it back on again. That would be the best option. Thx for watching. :)
I agree 100% with auto start stop. It's not for gas mileage, it's for emissions. Very dumb, and I am also positive that the battery and starter will wear out much sooner too. So, get in the habit of turning it off. I've forgotten a few times, but you're reminded the first time the engines huts off. On my CRVs, the CMBS does have a little adjustment. I think it's labeled short and normal. What do you think about the cylinder deactivation?
Hate the push button gears in the center console. My wife and I have a Pilot with it along with other shift/braking setting buttons stuck in there that the Ridgeline has located elsewhere. And IT IS A NIGHTMARE with two little dogs that go everywhere with us, always stepping on and changing the settings.
All five things I dislike as well. The curve breaking could be dangerous. One thing you missed. The radio does not stay on to finish a song when you shut the truck off. You have to leave the truck running to finish your song. This thing is so much nicer then my 2020 Ram. Loading height is like night and day better as well as stability.
Press the start/stop button with the transmission in Drive. It will go in accessory mode and you can comfortably finish listening to your favourite song.
Only had my 2024 for a few weeks and i agree with you on most things, and yes i do love the truck. Waiting to see the 2026 where i think they will address most of theses issues. thanks for the video!
Push button transmission selector is not intuitive. It’s actually distracting. I have to look down anytime I’m selecting a button. I wish you could turn off the collision warning permanently. Mine hasn’t applied brakes yet but the BRAKE warning and wheel shaking is kinda scary. It’s happened twice on corners and twice on straight road in 2 months of owning it. Dealer tells me there is a recall on the Pilot, but not on the RL. Open a case at your service department to get this issue corrected.
One thing you left off is that the existing DRL swoop does not light up on the RTL trim like it does on the TrailSport or BE trims. I love the RL though and have owned four of them.
Love my 2023 RTL-E. I am disappointed by the aftermarket support. I would like to see Honda offer more in the way of off-road upgrades that include lift, larger tire clearance, undercarriage protection, etc.. Honda needs to start the aftermarket kit so that others will follow. I camp a lot, but have not pulled the trigger on bed upgrades as of yet due to the lack of options with racks, spare tire options, etc.. Also, I like that it tows and came with the 7 pin, but it should also have a 4 pin AND it is brake module ready, but should have one pre-installed. I am much more used to the shifting now, but I do not like the push button gears as compared to a shifter.
The push botton shifting was mandatory because of the German transmission Honda uses in the Ridgeline. Better read up on how to get it out of park if the electrical goes out. There is a little stub on top of the trans under the hood. There is a youtube video about. I am sure someone makes a soft drop shock instead of that cable. I installed one on my 2017 F150 tailgate.
I got used to the shift buttons but I'd prefer a column shifter because there is better use for that space on the console. Also the bezel around it looks like 2003 left their phone in my truck. My biggest complaint, coming from a Tundra, is that I have to take my eyes off the road to adjust the climate control mode or fan speed. The Tundra had big positional knobs, could use them with work gloves on (it's a truck, ya might be workin' out of it). On this, I can bump the temp up or down without looking but to adjust anything else climate wise, I have to look where to place my fingertip.
I have a 2024 Ridgeline and about the auto-engine stop/start, I got into the habit of turning it off when I got in the car. I came from driving 3 stick shift cars in a row so pushing a button is nothing. Also, there is a 90$ device that takes about 20 minutes to install that shuts off that feature by default. Also, the feature turns on after you put it in park by default
Couldn’t agree with you more on the auto off auto restart. I think it was an invention of engine starter companies. We have it on our new CRV. Hate it. Going to buy a Ridgeline this week. Will hate it there too.
Honest assessment, Joe. 2021 Ridgeline Black Edition owner here and I love my Honda truck. I agree that the collision warning sensor seems too sensitive. I use the USAA auto insurance App and that bugger dings me if I move my phone (handling) or brake harshly (to avoid a collision!). That App and the AARP safe driver online course have made me more cautious by watching my speed, preparing for stops and never taking/making a call while driving. As a result, my insurance premium went down 29% on my latest renewal. The lack of LED lighting is because you have the RTL trim instead of the Black Edition. Personally, I don't know why LEDs aren't on every trim. I agree the tailgate drops hard, but I typically use the swing out feature. The gear selector buttons...I'm used to them. Ventilated seats would be nice.
How are you liking that North Mountain tonneau cover? Do you ever take it thru brush car washes? Been thinking of getting one but worried about the car wash thing. Thanks!
I have to agree with you, I have the 2024, Trailsport same color, hate the start stop, but all new cars and trucks have it now,it’s a government deal, I Love my truck, lots of room behind the seats, just wife and me, I use for storage area. I hear the 2025 going to be higher off the ground, I watch your first video as well, good read on the truck.
Id rather have a hump than no hump. My 2019 Ram classic had no hump and it was a pain on long trips. That hump gives you somewhere to place your foot flat while supporting a good driving position
The ridgeline has always been an interesting vehicle. I like the naturally-aspirated engine and the PHYSICAL PARKING BRAKE! But I don't like a rubber timing belt I have to tear the engine apart and replace every ~100k. Also, I'm a runner so I would love to be able to stretch my left leg... dealbreaker, LOL. Try unplugging the wiring harness to the auto-stop, I heard on the Fords that disables it, worth a try for a $140 part?
I think every vehicle I’ve ever driven has had the elevated platform on the driver side wall. Why is it there I don’t know but I always used it to prop myself up better in my vehicle.
I have the same truck ridgeline 2024 and same color grey/black . I have zero problems so far . It’s great on gas instead driving a full truck . Ridgeline 2024 is my daily to go

Agreed I’m 6’3”. Plenty of room. He could always move his seat back
I’m only 5’4" sp lots of room.
The S-VCM Module made a big difference on how my 2020 truck drives, it seems so much smoother.

Dead pedal not as common as they once were but good to have. I hate cars without a foot rest. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_pedal#
Oh I completely agree. The dual action is far more useful. I just wondered if that was the reasoning for not damping the tailgate. Makes sense tho.
I agree with 4 of your complaints. The bump on the floor. It's a dead pedal and I like it.
Collision sensors are adjustable in vehicle settings.
Agreed. Just change the distance in the settings and that goes away
This is what I came to let folks know that didn't already.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the forward collision through the display panel settings from normal to short.

Interesting. Maybe I'll mention it to the service department during the next service. Thx for the tip.
You can adjust the sensitivity your self on the settings hope they didn't charge you
Footrest aka dead pedal is standard on many performance vehicles, it is there so you have something to brace against.
A lot of your complaints are adjustable on this radio screen settings. Going into “vehicle” settings, and change collision, mitigation sensitivity, or tailgate unlocks with the rest of vehicle all at once. you’ll find 30 items in there to adjust
Very good review - thanks! My dad has a 2009 - been a great truck. I drove a 2024 today - very impressive.
I struggled to come up with 5 things I didn't like. Overall, I still like the truck a lot. And I'd definitely buy it again.
The situation was-
2 lanes traveling in the same direction on a curve to the right.

I bought a 2021 Ridgeline sport and traded it in after 39000 trouble free miles for a 2023 Ridgeline RTL both vehicles nearly identical
except for RTL upgrades. I use it for everything and it is a pleasure to drive on long and short trips especially towing either my box trailer or open one. You didn't mention the fold down seats which create a huge space for hauling tools, pets etc.Lastly, be sure to keep it it great
condition as the trade in values are excellent as there are many buyers who love Honda products but cannot purchase brand new due to
their budget.
It’s a great truck. I struggled coming up with 5 things to dislike to make this video. In the big picture, my complaints are minor.

23 RTL no difference.
Shut the truck off while it’s still in gear. The radio will stay on accessory mode and the tranny will default into park.
You can change the distance range on the collision mitigation sensors in settings
Yes, I did that today. I'm hoping that helps.
I changed the collision mitigation setting about a week ago after a few others pointed it out to me in the comments. It’s definitely better now. Thx
free oil change and tire rotation,if you wait till 8000mi.had my truck for 15 months@5600 miles.changed it myself
Appreciate your honest comments!
Thx for watching.
The brake thing you are talking about also happens to my Acura MDX. It was startling at first, but got use to it.
I changed the sensitivity in the infotainment screen. It helps but its still a little too sensitive. But like you, I'm getting used to it.
Great job on the five things. I own a Passport and really love the vehicle but have a very similar list. The only difference is after 66,000 miles, I still “hate”, the push button shifter. Maybe the reason I go with a different brand next time (probably not)😂
Aftermarket idle stopper is $39 on Amazon
@@randomstuffwithjoeI just wish it only came on when you push the Econ button.
Yeah the lane correction is annoying too. But it is a nice truck.
I’m going to buy this truck I think and am excited about that
Hate the push button gears in the center console. My wife and I have a Pilot with it along with other shift/braking setting buttons stuck
in there that the Ridgeline has located elsewhere.
Oh I never noticed that. My Silverado would leave the radio playing after turning off the truck.. until I opened the door and then it would turn off.
@@jessewintersteen4740 yeah but your 2020 RAM was a real body on from pickup and this is a car with a bed.
@@mikepetrilli4686And? Ridgeline is the honest choice for anyone who needs a truck without all the heavy duty off road stuff.
@@mikepetrilli4686Well’ sort of Mikey, but not quite. Eat your heart out, or go locate your pacifier..
Press the start/stop button with the transmission in Drive. It will go in accessory mode and you can comfortably finish listening to your favourite song.
You can adjust the collision mitigation system on the Ridgeline
Only had my 2024 for a few weeks and i agree with you on most things, and yes i do love the truck. Waiting to see the 2026 where i think they will address most of theses issues. thanks for the video!
Would love to see a hybrid Ridgeline. That could push me to trade up. But I'm mostly happy with the truck even with these minor complaints.
I am much more used to the shifting now, but I do not like the push button gears as compared to a shifter.
oh...yes, my collision mitigation has been fooled by steel road work covers and nearly caused me to wreck!!!
That left foot hump works out for short people.
The shift buttons are ok but I hate that you have to be at a complete stop before pressing the new direction.
Can you use adaptive cruise control in stop and go traffic? Lane centering in stop and go traffic?
Forward d collision warning sensors are adjustable in screen menu
Rav 4 have the bump on the floor as well Have no idea what it’s about but it was never a problem
Couldn’t agree with you more on the auto off auto restart. I think it was an invention of engine starter companies. We have it on our new CRV. Hate it. Going to buy a Ridgeline this week. Will hate it there too.
I think you'll still love the Ridgeline. Overall its still a great vehicle. Good luck with the purchase.
agreed those ate annoyances but not game changers thanks for bringing it to my attention as I am seriously considering buying one.
Definitely not game changers. I’d still buy the truck again. I still believe it’s the best midsize truck available.
I agree with everything you said the sixth thing for me would have been a full spare tire.
Ah yes. I didn’t even think of that. But again, still not a deal breaker.
I have a 2024 Ridgeline and it came with a full size spare
That’s a non-issue for me. Spare rated for 50 miles at 50mph will get me back to service 99% of the time. Also I’ve not used a spare in 20 years.
@@yvonneclem351definitely doesn’t come like that from the factory.
I concur about the dumb transmission selector thing. Would be so much better as a column shift.
They use halogen nistead of LED because LED will not get hot enough to melt off any ice or snow.
How are you liking that North Mountain tonneau cover? Do you ever take it thru brush car washes?
Been thinking of getting one but worried about the car wash thing. Thanks!
It’s great. No issues. But I only go thru brushless washes.
I'm with you on the left foot rest.
How did you get an RTL with the blacked out exterior trim?
I swapped mine out. The part was about $100 and it only took about 10 minutes. I like the black better than the chrome.
Great video, like your first one. Thanks
Thx
I think every vehicle I’ve ever driven has had the elevated platform on the driver side wall. Why is it there I don’t know but I always used it to prop myself up better in my vehicle.
