Then on the same trip home, going through my village and someone stood between cars waiting to cross the road caused it to happen again. I switched it straight off after that, it's dangerous. I feel this has been there for a while, but they’ve now giving it a name. I’ve experienced hit and miss success with corners of similar angle in the past. That and slowing for roundabouts or end of coming off a slip road. The nag is greatly reduced. Drove for 2hours 30 to pick up my partners Tesla and as long as I had a contrasting top and trousers so it could see arms (I assume, in Model Y as the camera can see them, or maybe it’s holding hands close, which it can also see in Model Y) it didn’t nag. But once it started nagging it didn’t stop. Until deactivating and restarting it. Happy to demo
It is so strange that they didn't write about this improvement in the release notes. And it is bewildering that they still haven't improved the handling of changing speeds.
One problem with cameras reading the speed signs is that some roads do not have a sign and the car thinks it's the speed it was last on. For example, when I leave the staff car park, it's 15 and then I get on the main road which is 60 but there is no sign!
Love your detailed video. But I think you are wrong to describe it as limited steering. Clearly it must be able to turn the steering wheel sufficiently to get around the corner so its not limited. I think the limitation is on the G force so its related to speed and degree of rotation. Hence if it slows down it can go around tighter corners. Ie limit the G force to a prescribed level.
Like many others that have commented I don’t (didn’t) use AP very much other than on motorways. My M3 RWD updated yesterday two hours before being sold, so no chance to experience any improvements. My other EV, a Skoda Enyaq recognises speed limits and slows down for bends and roundabouts and whilst it doesn’t have one pedal driving I believe Skoda AP is better. Will be interesting to compare with my new M3, with hardware 4, to see if is better on AP.
Nice video, although the action really starts at 12:00 into it. I am based in Belgium, where we drive on the correct side of the road… 😂 Can I use a short clip of your imagery in my next video about this subject please? My channel is focusing on FSD coming to Europe, step by step, but we are getting there faster than what the street thinks.
I didn't know that Belgium had swapped over to driving on the left !. Did you stagger the change over, cars first then a week later heavy goods vehicles, that would have been hilarious !
@@stevenbarrett7648 😹 Yes, that’s wat they actually did in Sweden, in the seventies! I am honestly waiting till my car drives me autonomously to visit Scotland and do a tour of the distilleries…
A useful video and he explains but not sure many commenting get it; this is not a Tesla limitation but a LEGAL restriction in UK/Europe; Tesla is not allowed to do high speed high angle turns. I assume it’s a regulation written to suit legacy car makers and their old-school level 2 systems, the regulations need to change to allow for the more capable L2 systems now available. Yes it would be a hard regulation to get right but let’s be very clear it is not a Tesla limitation but the regulations they must work with.
Hi Ian. Have you got enhanced autopilot? I’m wondering how useful that would be or if it’s not in U.K. did that update come recently? It would be useful if you told us the exact update number so I can see if I’ve received it too! We all seem to get these updates at different times. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Autopilot tried to hit traffic cones when driving through new A303 near Sparkford. It wanted to turn off at now defunct roundabout. Had to take over. So glitchy. First real problem I’ve had in the first two months of ownership.
@@justgetatesla oh ok. Thanks. Any chance of a video to get your Tesla ready at night. The iced up windscreen took me by surprise. Is there a specific order of what to press on the app before entering? And what do I do about mirrors?
My 2023 Model Y always fails in tight corners that my 2021 Model 3 has always handled with no problem. Its even worse in the Model Y with the new Curve Assist. Now it either phantom brakes mid corner, picks wrong lane mid corner or steers directly for the curb.
Here in Germany the steering wheel nag on my 2023 Model Y is completely gone. As long as the camera can see I have my hand on the wheel, no nag is needed. Works like a a charm.
@@sephmne3645 I have HW3 and got it. It has to do with the angle of view of the internal camera. On some cars, it can't see the hands on the steering wheel. So it won't work on those.
It would be a lot better if the speed limiter was map based rather than camera based, it could easily be programmed to adjust for different times ofvthe day ir days of the week.
Self driving in other makes recognises the speed limit signs and slows the car down before the limit is reached, why doesn't Tesla do this or at least make it an option?
@@huwjones5879 Personally I dont think it should be an option , if you want to stop people from breaking laws the best way isvto remove or at least where possible restrict their ability to do so. It would undoubtedly save many thousands of lives each year & reduce the cost for taxpayers for policing the traffic if nobody was able to break the designated speed limits.
FSD doesn't read speed limit signs on the road. It reads the speed limit from map data. It reliably adjusts to lower limits at the sign location unless the driver has foolishly manually set it to allow it to break the speed limit. Because FSD is now a trained neural network and not human-generated computer code, it's not so easy as you might think to program in TOD actions.
I try to use AP as much as possible on M roads and dual carriageways although it has some really bad issues such as phantom breaking and a really annoying one when passing a turn off on the motorway it often indicates a couple of times then tries to take us off then it changes its mind all scary stuff. If you are on the A1/M when changing to the A64 (York) you need to stay in the right lane as every single time it will do this 'Crazy Ivan' manoeuvre if we are in the inner lane. Then on the A64 with clearly defined dual lanes it often only see's one lane so overtaking in AP just doesn't work. Apart from that its wonderful, thing is this car still puts a smile on my face over two years in, love it!.
Hi, finally a channel addressing European Tesla issues. No FSD hype, but exactly talking about real world situations. I have covered over 100.000 km my M3, but still, I am not happy with the Autopilot. I am doing all updates so my question for the moment: what release level features of the curve assist function?
Where there are alot of curves i have used adaptive cruise control where I select a vehicle in front of me which I call the rabbit follow him and let-him do all the hard work All I do is steer the vehicle. If the rabbit takes the corner too fast curve assist kicks in slowing my vehicle down. This works for me there were a few occasions where the car would say mommy I’m scared please take over but other than that it worked pretty good.I realise it is a work in progress it’s not perfect but look forward to future improvements
Interesting update - mine came in late last week (2024.38.6) and so the first chance for a play was yesterday and today. Had very similar experiences on the A338 between Salisbury and Ringwood…behaved very well. But I am noticing the odd event on perfectly straight roads of 30 or 40 mph where the car has apparently clocked something and decided to slow right down for no apparent reason. Nursing it back towards the limit and it would repeatedly try and slow down again. Now I think I have only had three incidents of this over the course of about 250 miles, so maybe too early to draw conclusions. Otherwise - and we must always bear in mind we’re talking driver aids here, and a long way from “self-driving” - this seems a good step forward contributing mostly calm and serenity to the drive. In the video I did find myself tensing up a couple of times on right hand bends…..but in real life the behaviour seems perfectly predictable and confidence inspiring! (just my 2d, 2023 Model 3 RWD)
I only ever use Auto Pillock, as I always call it, on motorways. The phantom breaking has put me off on any other roads. Slowing the car down to the speed limit should be a basic function of any AP - claims made by Tesla about its tech being so advanced and yet it can’t do this is laughable. I love my TM3 but not Auto Pillock. It took ages for the Curve Assist message to be displayed - I started to think my TM3 was not compatible as it’s a 70 plate but a 2021 model and there are some functions, like the heated steering wheel, that are not available on the early 2021 models. Great channel BTW.
I no longer receive nags to hold my steering wheel. I just do it with two fingers, both during the day and at night. I did have to adjust my steering wheel slightly so that the camera can see my hands better. It drives so much more relaxing 2024.38.6 in The Netherlands
I was using cruise control on the motorway, I hit a fog patch and the car started to slow down rapidly until I took control, has this happened to anyone else ?
Thanks for these updates. I’m a new Tesla M3 owner in Portugal and trying to get up to speed (pardon the pun) with autopilot. I’m just contemplating upgrading to EAP (im an addicted geek)
Mine came up with curvature assist on a perfectly straight road (A38 near Ashburton) and whacked the brakes on. Much annoyance from the poor driver behind! Then later on by Exeter Racecourse it still tried to do 70 through tight bends even when it’s barely safe at 50! Not sure if Tesla maps are manually programmed with curve angles, if it’s using camera or a mix of both, but still needs work before I’ll trust EAP fully…
Do these systems not take onboard what a previous Tesla has done on that bit of road as a guide? I always thought Tesla’s all talking to each other to warn about road conditions or accidents or road works was a thing.
FSD still a lot of glitches. Never leave at broken lights. Never check which car stop first at the stop sign. AND now never driver even the lights turned green. Would you pay for that so called FSD? Those are new glitches after update.
I've never had a problem with FSD not knowing when to go at a 4-way stop. The version I have (V12.5.4.2) tried to stop for a green light, once, never again. It does have issues with flashing yellow lights sometimes, but overall it drives predictably well except at the end of the drive where I find it easier to park than to let it do it for me.
@ : it is still not FSD as they called it. FSD means full self driving. This updated version fix some problems but there are other problems that never happen before. This new version never drives on flashing red lights. Flashing red light should be treated as stop sign but this version failed.
I agree tesla have def gone all in on FSD when they could have enhanced the autopilot feature more and fix auto-wipers whist they are at it. I suppose they have to show something for all the extra cash people have paid for FSD, I only use autopilot on the motorways and even then it can get confused, i never use it on country roads, for one i prefer driving slightly closer to the centre to avoid drains and our country roads aren’t always in great condition so have to avoid the pot holes, especially in winter.
I agree with your point about avoiding drains and potholes. I used AP on a Motorway contraflow recently until the centre lane position meant it hit the miles of filled in holes from where Cat's Eyes had been removed, very annoying. In my Model 3 AP places itself dead centre on roads just wide enough for two cars to pass. In UK there are miles these, I dread to think of the fit it would have on the Welsh roads I drove on when I lived there. This is why I don't think autonomous driving will be 100% achievable in UK, at least not within the next two decades.
I watch outofspec reviews, a US channel but very good and test multiple vendors, amongst other things, they test these systems on the same stretch of road, and some of the legacy automakers have better systems then tesla now. Some have really good features like allowing you to adjust your position in the lane without disabling autopilot, some auto nudge over when overtaking large vehicles. But i can see it from Tesla’s point of view too, lots of people have prepaid for full self driving, so is something there under pressure to deliver
Tesla’s ACC and AP is truly terrible. They used to be best in the game back in 2017, but since the FSD push, AP has become forgotten about. Actually it’s straight up dangerous. Can’t even use cruise control in 20 limits because there’s usually cars parked on the pavements or roads and it will slam on the brakes On the motorway, my car slams on the brakes randomly, and with the new update, it brakes going around corners for no reason. Could easily have done it at 140 mph, but apparently 70 is too fast 🙄
Also they added an update a few years ago where the car will slow down for turning when you’re navigating somewhere. The problem is it slows down way too early, and it doesn’t indicate either
@@justgetatesla I have noticed the occasional slowdowns on motorways recently, and anecdotally it does seem to coincide with approaching a junction that you are navigating off at. For months, not years though. And I've not tried the new update on bendy roads yet, but it definitely slowed down an a relatively slight motorway bend that it never used to, displaying the new curve assist message. Looks like another downgrade in functionality, much like the TACC single beep you now can't turn off.
Has any one in the UK tried autopilot whilst there head lights are switch to ‘off’? I thought I had a fault and went to a service centre who pointed out that autopilot only works when headlights are set to auto….
Kinda obvious that autopilot will want to be in charge of headlights and wipers so that it can see. And, unless it has changed recently, autopilot doesn't refuse to work, it just sets everything back to auto when you enable it. Why are you overriding the auto lights anyway? That's an option I wish manufacturers would remove, far too many numpties driving around with no lights or just DRLs in total darkness
@ so you think I’m an idiot for switching lights off in the daytime and only using day time running light? Did I not say that it worked prior to the recent update. Which idiots drive around during the day with dipped headlights. I suggest you adapt your tone and learn to read - there’s always one disrespectful asshole in these channels wouldn’t you agree.
Yeah, i still dunno. AP for me is still a bit twitchy for me - it seems to get scared of upwards slopes in front of it on A roads, but then wants to do close overtakes. And if it spots a speed limit on a parallel road it slams the anchors on (30 on a 50 road - fun!). Im still a little hesitant. I would rather Tesla just focused on making good cars. Maybe with Musk being distracted by his new orange friend for a bit they might be allowed to get on with that 😅
Tesla is lagging with this - my 2024 Mini Countryman S E (the electric one) had this on delivery in April, it’s the same as fitted to recent BMWs with the option.
@@djtaylorutube My point is the UK still follow EU over autonomous driving, So they got rid of all the good EU bits and kept the bad? btw free travel between countries is not the EU but Schengen, just like ESA the UK is still a full member.
@favesongslist UNECE regulations are being followed, not EU ones. Free travel Schengen or not doesn't allow the right to live or work in the EU. Tragic loss of rights and freedoms.
@favesongslist The UK could change but given that it's the UK that has recently crippled the UNECE regulations, they're isn't much hope. The UK is a backward facing, utterly broken, failed state!
I just spotted this in my YT suggestions, and it's good to have found out about the surprise that's in store for us (we're on 2024.32.7). BTW. I guess you started this channel before Musk became so toxic, but how about broadening your brand because I'm in serious "Anything but a Tesla" mode now. If I had the time I'd be launching a channel "Replace my Model Y" and getting out reviewing everything for current Tesla owners who are in various states of buyers regret
This damned feature seems like a good idea, until it suddenly activates on a straight bit of motorway at 110 km/h leaving you vulnerable to being clouted in the rear by the surprised driver behind you. Another bit of Tesla stupidity.
The Americans have exactly the same as us unless they pay for FSD with the exception of the steering limitation discussed here which is because of a stupid EU regulation.
Why do we have autosteer limited in the UK restricting the amount of wheel turn With legislation gone through for full autonomous driving we are told by Gov will be allowed in 2026 surely increasing the amount of wheel turn is a precursor to FSD Curvature assist slowing into corners should allow for greater steering lock imo. Autopilot does not handle off camber where it can't see the left white line & tends to pull into the corner (which is scary when there is a hedge) then disengages autopilot at the last second It is possible to purchase FSD supervised in the UK Anyone bought & using it? Would be good to have a free trial or subscription model as in US Could Just Buy A Tesla contact Gov for comment on autosteer restrictions?
Absolutely 0 difference here. I drive 30.000 Miles a year in a 2021 TM3. It brake/slow down exactly the same places it always has done at the same speeds. All this do is giving a message about how ridiculous bad the assist system has become after "Vision" and the last approx. year where they scre**d further up by introducing what causes this, the limit of speed when approching curves & junctions. Another nail in the coffin of Tesla's "assist" system that by now are far below most other, and especially european manufacturers assist systems. Regulations? BS, its Tesla that can't get their cameras to work anywhere near what it were capable of when on radar.
@@justgetatesla Polestar is a Chinese car. But the Polestar's Pilot assist would still be able to maintain ex. 80 Km/h when visibility gets to 300 Meters on an empty straight road in the daylight or there is a snow covered landscape (with cleared safe roads) and just a bit of mist in the air. Both are something that happens often during the winter ½-year where Tesla fails miserably with the "reduced speed due to limited visibility"....& the Polestars wipers would start ever so often by mistake like Tesla's do as Polestars got a proprietary rainsensor.
Because AP has been mis sold (it is dysfunctional) I never use it. Because the car panics, creates dangerous situations, can’t correctly i teret speed limits, bends, hazards, non hazards…..BEFORE EVERY DRIVE….I also disable ‘lane keeping’ and ‘aeb’. Even then the car auto steers away from nothing and often this places the car closer to oncoming traffic! I have also blocked the interior camera. Now that Musk has supported a neo fascistic dangerous moron, this will be the last Tesla I will ever own.
@@justgetatesla The car (2021 M3 LR) was sold as having Autopilot and several driver safety and assist functions. None of them have ever worked as advertised and all of them make driving the car less safe than it would be without them. Tesla owners have been treated like beta testers (if the system was not completely functional at the time of purchase and is still dysfunctional, whose fault is that?), while Musk does all he can to negate drivers, including suspending functionality! So whose car is it? Maybe all of this crap works as stated in the US, where roads are straight and corners sharp but I have had far too many experiences where the car has either created a situation as a result of the system braking with an audible alert and message on the screen, or both braking and steering with alert sound and message. When that happens, without warning, I have to quickly take over and that makes the whole thing totally pointless and more stressful than it would have otherwise been. Phantom braking and steering is a serious danger.

I think the limitation is on the G force so its related to speed and degree of rotation. Hence if it slows down it can go around tighter corners. Ie limit the G force to a prescribed level.
As I understand it there is a legal restriction on the angle of attack which the steering can dial in on autopilot
Curve assistant 😅😂
So bends in roads have just been introduced?
It's an American car. They are afraid of corners. ;)
@David_Polak Fair point 👏
Nice video, although the action really starts at 12:00 into it.
I am based in Belgium, where we drive on the correct side of the road… 😂
Can I use a short clip of your imagery in my next video about this subject please?
My channel is focusing on FSD coming to Europe, step by step, but we are getting there faster than what the street thinks.
I didn't know that Belgium had swapped over to driving on the left !. Did you stagger the change over, cars first then a week later heavy goods vehicles, that would have been hilarious !

I said that - UNECE
My Tesla updated to this and my tests mirror yours. Maybe the answer is use it for the adaptive cruise and do the steering!
No EAP, just the free version
Amazing! When do we get this in the UK🤔
I think only HW4 cars get it
@@sephmne3645 I have HW3 and got it. It has to do with the angle of view of the internal camera. On some cars, it can't see the hands on the steering wheel. So it won't work on those.
The HGV 50mph signs on A9 have now had the red circle removed so that they are no longer read as restrictions for cars.
Good! That must be recent as they were still there earlier in the summer

I haven’t had mine try to pull the crazy Ivan for ages. Love the reference btw
Hi, finally a channel addressing European Tesla issues. No FSD hype, but exactly talking about real world situations. I have covered over 100.000 km my M3, but still, I am not happy with the Autopilot. I am doing all updates so my question for the moment: what release level features of the curve assist function?
60 mph is crazy speed on a road that is so narrow. In Finland that would be 50 to 60 km/h road
I've been happily subscribed since day 1. Another great video BTW 👍👍👍👍
Where there are alot of curves i have used adaptive cruise control where I select a vehicle in front of me which I call the rabbit follow him and let-him do all the hard work All I do is steer the vehicle. If the rabbit takes the corner too fast curve assist kicks in slowing my vehicle down. This works for me there were a few occasions where the car would say mommy I’m scared please take over but other than that it worked pretty good.I realise it is a work in progress it’s not perfect but look forward to future improvements
thanx for this interesting video!!
Looks like your car doesn't yet have Curve Assist. When in use it should display 'Curviture Assist' above the car when it is in use.
Erm, watch the video. You see the thumbnail? What it shows on the screen? That’s taken from the video that you are commenting on…
Is this Basic Autopilot or Enhanced or FSD version?
Basic
My preloved Model 3 came with Enhanced Autopilot, all I can say is that I'm glad I didn't pay for it.
@ what year model and which HW version?
@@huwjones5879 Please tell us why. I'm also thinking of getting Enhanced Autopilot.
Cameras all the way
2024,38.6 im on and not seen any of this on my m3
Useful information to know, thanks.
Do these systems not take onboard what a previous Tesla has done on that bit of road as a guide? I always thought Tesla’s all talking to each other to warn about road conditions or accidents or road works was a thing.
These comments are hilarious, I'm pretty sure most people don't understand the operating conditions for ap.
Great video
I have no idea if you guys are talking about American FSD or rest of world “FSD”
As I said on the video, they will have to do a huuuuge amount of work for Europe…
Can’t even use cruise control in 20 limits because there’s usually cars parked on the pavements or roads and it will slam on the brakes
On the motorway, my car slams on the brakes randomly, and with the new update, it brakes going around corners for no reason. Could easily have done it at 140 mph, but apparently 70 is too fast 🙄
Also they added an update a few years ago where the car will slow down for turning when you’re navigating somewhere. The problem is it slows down way too early, and it doesn’t indicate either
I don’t have those problems
AP job is to keep you in the lanes it cannot go around any vehicle which maybe fouling the white line hence the reason why it brakes.
Same sort of thing with the wipers. Switch them to 'off', then engage Autopilot, and they will reset to automatic again.
Oh and do I don’t have to suffer xxxxs like you I’ll just remove myself from this channel. Shame really that a good channel can get spoiled by idiots.

In seemingly random batches
Your comment that it does not recognise parked cars leaves me more than concerned!
It recognises them. And ensures you stop neatly. Not much use when driving
This damned feature seems like a good idea, until it suddenly activates on a straight bit of motorway at 110 km/h leaving you vulnerable to being clouted in the rear by the surprised driver behind you. Another bit of Tesla stupidity.
The issue is just regulation in Europe
Not allowing FSD by various government agencies is criminal and putting lives at risk.
I wouldn’t call it criminal. There are all kinds of basic regulatory questions that nobody can easily answer
The Americans have exactly the same as us unless they pay for FSD with the exception of the steering limitation discussed here which is because of a stupid EU regulation.
Not EU. UN
I’m in the UK. Our government doesn’t set the international regulations
So regulations had made it more dangerous
I’ve just spent 3 days in a Polestar 2. Pilot Assist can’t even manage dual carriageway sweeping bends 🫣
Where has it been mis sold? If your car does that it is faulty - nobody else has all that
@@justgetatesla The car (2021 M3 LR) was sold as having Autopilot and several driver safety and assist functions.
