Thanks a bunch! This video was perfect for what I needed to know.
Just in case anyone was wondering, the disassembly in this video will also work on an HP 14 dk1032wm. I just got a brand new one yesterday and needed to upgrade the RAM. Replacing the stock stick with a single 8gb replacement dropped my online memory usage from 80% to 54%.

I've been searching high and low for anyone whose worked on my exact model: HP Notebook - 14-df0013ds. And I keep coming up with models that follow a similar naming scheme like this one. And ya know, all these very similar looking HP laptops with all these very similar model numbers reminds me of that scene from Factotum. Hank gets the job packing orders of automotive brakes and his "trainer" shows him the stack of brakes and then the three different boxes for the 'Regular,' 'Super,' and 'Ultra' brakes. Prompting Hank to ask 'What's the difference?' To which the 'trainer' responds, 'None, they're all the same. We just charge different amounts for the same brakes.'
I know It's a little different with HP cause I'm sure all these different model numbers have slightly different configurations. But now much you wanna bet, they're ALL in the SAME case.

EASY WAY TO SEE HOW MANY MEMORY SLOTS YOUR LAPTOP HAS
The easiest solution for Windows users is to open the Windows Task Manager.

    OR ....CTRL ALT + DEL
In the window that appears, click the Performance tab (A), then select Memory (B).

Great video, I figured there were screws under the pads but I didnt want to take them off until I was sure. I have to say I am impressed with how well organized and engineered it was under the hood. 2 screws and the cable and the fan pops right out, memory and storage are right there and simple.
Question though, with a low spec laptop such as this, is it really worth upgrading the components instead of gettimg a higher spec laptop? Lately mine has been freezing up and requiring the power button to restart, I don't know if I should upgrade the RAM or buy a new laptop.

    • @FailedZerg
      @FailedZerg 2 года назад +2

I would say a huge A-firm! The freezing issues are usually a result of insufficient ram, especially considering this little ryzen 3 is more than enough processor to handle non gaming and non rendering processes! Get a cheap stick of ddr4 260pin laptop memory for like 20 bucks and the issue should go away. :) At least that's my own opinion on the matter. God bless you friend! :)

32gb is overkill for this laptop ,i have same but mine came with 8gb 1 stick , i wanted to upgrade to dual channel though , not sure why they put in 1 stick , it will only run at half rated speed that way, also 4gb when the gpu used 2gb that is crazy that they would sell it with only 4gb as an option, mine shows 5.8 available out of 8gb as it was, also regarding the ssd, i realized after putting in a 3500 read speed m.v evo ssd, i was only getting half that speed according to crystal disk speed test, then after some research i see 2 of the 4 pcie lanes are dedicated to the graphics so yo will only get half the speed of what ever m.2 drive you install. also the speed of ssd decreased from 1750 to 500 when on battery, limitation of this laptop to save power,

Hello, Thank you for your video. I have a 14-dq2078WM that i purchased and going to do a RAM upgrade and would like to know if the 2.5HD caddy and cable would work for my computer? I imagine it will, but other HP forums i have seen (esp HP official forum) they say it doesn't. It seems like by your video it will work?

Is there a quieter more premium fan/heatsink you can replace the stock one with? or anything else you can do to make the fan less noisy? Software tweaks do nothing,

Hey, do you know if an HP-DK-1023nf has a M.2 Slot ? I get conflicting results by searching online and the HP website doesn't talk about it either. it has a 1Tb hard drive at 5400rpm and I'm afraid it would get slow.

Upgraded RAM and the machine is a different beast. Okay not going to break any records but it’s stopped the need for me to purchase another laptop for now! Appreciate this video is old but mine came with a 1TB SSD and I’m thinking to install an NvME to increase the boot speed even more (just for windows etc.) However do these not require a heatsink also?

32 GB of ram is a bit overkill for a budget system like this one. 16 GB is sufficient for every day task and gaming. I found that Skyrim, GTA 5, and Fortnight runs decently between 40-50 FPS at low settings. There is way to increase the CPU power 25W in order to get more performance out of it, but it throttles back fast due to insufficient cooling.

i really could have used more info on the connectors, the cables, where to find them and if you purchase them, where do they connect to the motherboard. Instead i learn how to take out screws and put them back in for half of the video.

Hi. I believe your model comes with 1tb standard HDD. I cannot say for sure, but I would say you probably have an m.2 nvme slot inside. Pretty easy to open up and look if you want. Dale
