Hey. I’m ok with a wrench but changing CVT fluid had my pulse up a bit. After your video it was a snap. Thanks for saving half my paycheck that would have gone to the Dealership!! Keep up the good work!
There are actually 2 transmission filters right up to 2016 there in the Pan and one is on the outsidek of the transmission. 2017 and up only has 1 filter which is on the outside. And yes it is important that you replace the filters. You wouldn't leave the oil filter on after you change you oil.
@@justdoityourself ruclips.net/video/bhPitBSk3k0/видео.html I followed this video even though it's not in English. So at 3:45, he shows where the filter is and removes it, you don't have to drop the transmission pan to do it, it's pretty simple. By the way, the 2016 xtrail and rogue are the same vehicles, just named differently based on the country. When I removed mine at 50k kms, it was completely black and nasty.
great video thanks! I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue with 120,000 miles on it and have never had a drain and fill on it. Do you think it is safe to do so now or is it too late for that? thanks, again.
@@justdoityourself Thanks for your answer! Today I contacted the Nissan dealer to do this service and they refused. They say that at this point it could be a problem for the CVT. crazy. I think I'll do it myself and I'll tell you how the condition of the fluid was. again thanks!
Please do not quote me on this, but I was told same story before, where local Nissan dealer said that transmission is not serviceable and is filled with oil for live of the vehicle. Having said that, I know for sure, that Nissan CVTs are not fixable, there are no parts, so it is a good business for them to sell you new transmission when the old one goes down because of lack of service. Just my thoughts.
@@justdoityourself l am at the mechanic now. He is also watching this video, 🤔🧐. Now l know what to watch for. This is a very picky transmission. It needs to be serviced more importantly than the oil changes. It will absolutely save you from buying a new transmission. Cost $75 to replace that precious oil and should be done every other year.
I have been told that with the newer models of rogue which is after 2014 models you need a heat scanner to monitor the heat temperature when changing CVT transmission fluid and by doing yourself you are risking damaging the transmission if not done properly and also causing warranty to be void
It is quite a broad statement that can be referenced to all transmissions regardless of it is CVT or not. Level has to be checked at normal operating temperature (80-90 C). Having said that if you measure how much you drained and fill the same amount, level check is just an extra step to be sure.
@@justdoityourself I wouldn't risk changing the transmission fluid myself since it's such a complex machine and don't want to spend 6000-7000 if something goes bad
@@Proc3000 This wasn't the case with older rogue models and they said you could do that yourself so if that was the case they would have said same thing on older models as well so why different now
Jigs is right on it being risky but if you can mess up a lot of things without the proper amount of research. Remember watch more than one video on doing this. This personally was my second dealing with this situation so to each do what is comfortable to you. If you have done home car repair before you have messed something up...keep trying!
In order to do this properly you have to have the transmission fluid at a 180.゚ And the only way to check it for accuracy of the temperature is with a scan tool, because CVT transmission fluid expands and contracts so if you don't have the right temperature you won't have the right amount.
Thanks for your feedback! I agree with what you said. If the scan too is not available, running the vehicle 15-20 min idle, will get it close to the temp you mentioned.
@@justdoityourself But you know that by doing yourself you are voiding the warranty unless the warranty has expired then it doesn't make any difference
I drain into a clear painters bucket. That way, I can measure the exact amount drained and replace it with the same amount of new fluid. Never had a problem.
Getting that tube plug off was a real pain in the ass, I ended up having to break it off. Only to find out that the oil looked okay, must have been replaced by the previous owner.
Hi… it’s two types of transmission fluid change ? #1 Flush properly or #2just drain and fill new ? If just open drain plug and fill new , then how much is good?
I doubt you wanted to watch me struggling for like 15 minutes. Stick a flat screw driver in between the metal plate and that tongue that is between the core of the plug and the metal plate. Check my video on replacement of AUX transmission filter, it is shown there too.
@@justdoityourself thanks to you! My transmission was jamming in traffic sometimes. The mechanic told me my transmission is finished need to change oil and the solenoid and most likely it’s not gonna work! I put a bottle of seafoam and it’s perfectly fine now

@@stevetheriault4164 30,000 miles or 50,000 kms sounds good to me for normal driving. For extreme driving or towing I'd do 30,000 kms intervals. Dealership wants to sell you new transmission in a few years, they don't make much on services 😀

I changed the little paper cartridge filter. Perhaps it is easy on a 2016?? I don't know. But on a 2017 Rogue IT IS A REAL PAIN. 4 bolts. One of them you can't get 2 fingers on and can't see. It must be done BLIND. Stupid engineering. Or perhaps someone has another way. I am all ears.
Not really. The fluid was changed because of its age (5 years) not milage, so the filters will be changed next time when it hits 150,000 km and most likely @ 10 years. The fluid was in a great shape so there was minimal change of filters to be plugged. Nevertheless, totally agree that it would not heard to change the filters, I just was not aware of them.

2018 has 2 filters. One under pan one on the side.
There is also a transmission filter beside the transmission on the outside. Very easy to change
