Vitamin D and skin physiology: a D-lightful story.
www.ncbi.nlm.ni...
“Throughout evolution, exposure to sunlight and the photosynthesis of vitamin D(3) in the skin has been critically important for the evolution of land vertebrates. During exposure to sunlight, the solar UVB photons with energies 290-315 nm are absorbed by 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin and converted to previtamin D(3). “
Does Milk Really Contain Vitamin D?
healthyeating.s...
“Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means your body can store it in the liver and fat cells, that promotes the absorption of calcium, aids in neuromuscular function and supports the immune system. Failing to meet your daily needs affects the strength of your bones, a condition known as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.”
Lack of Vitamin D May Have Killed Mozart
news.discovery....
“In his high-latitude home in Austria, Mozart was probably running low on the sunshine vitamin for half the year. That deficiency may have put the musician at risk for many of the illnesses he suffered from.”

I'd choose nature (sun) over supplements anytime :)
so Im basically a solar panel. mad
+Mansoor Alarayedh In the near future, we can convert absorbed sunlight in our bodies to electricity and charge our phones by sun tanning.
* rad
Interesting you should say that. But have you ever seen a white solar panel? it does not exist. if dark surfaces absorbs sunlight and white surfaces reflects it, then how is it different for skin??
Mansoor AL Arayedh powered by nuclear fusion xD
Um dope ?
Trace is awesome. He's owning this more and more. Discovery is lucky to have found him. Hope he can get some more co-hosts soon. Miss the feeling of a full host crew.
Behind the camera is doing awesome too. Keep up the good work guys!
Strange, people usually scream when i try to give them my vitamin D
Saul T. Knots 😭😭
Do you mean milk?
wait...
Huh you don’t say? My tinder date is making these loud noises for 30 minutes when I give her some vitamin D
R Kelly?
That intro. Thank you, DNews.
That is my new response to seeing people sunbathe.
"Look at that person. He/she thinks he/she's plants."
Eyyy fam
#niceshirt
Wow! I am just glad that you made me able to apprehend the mechanism of ''Dermal Vitamin Synthesis''.It really helped me a lot. Thanks bro!
I get my vitamin D from fortified soy milk and vitamin supplements. I can't get it from the sun because I get sunburn very easily, and always have to wear sunblock when going out for more than a few minutes.
why do you get sunburned so easily?
+Meagan Collins because she was born a ginger
Sebastian Hidalgo or albinism. I think Eugene is a male lol
Meagan Collins because her diet is shit. lol
Soy lol
Well Depends on your skin colour too. Darker Pigmented skin blocks UVB to some extent which means darker individuals need to get more sunlight than fair ones , approximately 30-45mins.
Blood tests have shown that my D3 levels were deficient, so I started taking 1 caplet per day, and now my levels are at the normal place. Also, it has vastly improved my immune system because I never get sick again, and I'm no longer a mouth breather in the winter months, and my nose never leaks in the winter months. I occasionally stop taking D3 caplets while on vacation because of laziness, and within a week, I'm sick again. D3 really has helped me out a great deal in life. Also getting enough sun to form D3 is far from true because of the winter months, rainy weather, snowy weather, the shade under trees, spending most of the time indoors or outside at night, the latitude in which you live, and there are 3 types of UV light: UVA, UVB, and UVC; only one of which helps to produce D3. Also modern day humans are not outdoor creatures; we spent most time indoors. We aren't all like those Californians, who constantly sunbathe, damn Californians and their easy ass lifestyles.
Simba I drink milk every day. I only get real sick every 2 years
Devontae Nash I prefer vitamin D without milk. It's also cheaper and healthier than milk. No excess cholesterol for me!
Devontae Nash I hope you enjoy that dose of cholesterol in every glass of cow's milk.
Squidward
Easy lifestyle? You forgot to consider the taxes.
Yea same here I don’t get sick often and I take supplements because I work night shift .
The intro should have been...
Hello and welcome to your daily dose of Vitamin DNews
I'm young, 22, and I prefer sunlight! My mom is much older (who would think) and my parents prefer pill popping vitamins.
i have a genetic vitamin d deficiency, inherited on my father's side through my grandmother. doesn't matter how much sun i get i have to take the pill. Especially in winter. I have seasonal depression, another sign of deficient vitamin d.
the good news is that you can have a blood test done to see if you're deficient. There's no need to worry or guess you can just call your doctor and say "can you check me for a vitamin d deficiency?" and they can say "sure, make an appointment and we'll talk."
and if you suffer from clinical depression especially seasonal symptoms ask your doctor to test you.
I walk everyday 5km under the sun. All the vitamin D I need and a little excercise doesn't hurt too :)
You cant tell me this world wasnt created just for us, its beyond perfect..
We evolved to live this planet as it is now. It was a long process and we are not even close to perfectly fit in this planet without harming ourselves and the entire ecosystem. Sorry.
I believe that you're correct.
I usually try to avoid the sun since i burn so easily but i think i would tolerate a few minutes.
morning and evening isn't that bright
Depending on where you live you might not be able to convert sunlight into vitamin D for a good portion of the year. Studies vary, but in North America usually anywhere above 40' N (about San Francisco latitude) you can't absorb enough sunlight to manufacture vitamin D during the winter months, because the angle of the sun is too low. So it's recommended you take a vitamin supplement or try and eat additional foods with vitamin D in them.
Ashley Smith yup you go buy all that man made vitamins cuz they tell you to
Yeah, 5 minutes a day is the way to go. It feels good its free.
I take a 20 minute walk in the sun everyday.
This is great!! Concise and easy to understand. Thank You!! :)
Can u answer this question please? Does drinking water while standing affect your health?
+StarSun What? Why makes you think it would?
i live in Seattle. what is this “sun” you speak of?
Do you guys supplement? I was in Norway and everyone takes vit D in winter
This guy is great at succint explanations!
here's several suggestions to try
Try Honey - it helps bleach skin and also acting as a moisturizing agent. Dry skin is a factor that contributes to an uneven skin tone. Honey also has antibacterial properties that can help fade age spots or acne scars.
Use Lemons -the acid in lemons works as a natural bleaching agent for the skin and the high amount of vitamin C in them encourages new cell growth. Plus, lemons have antioxidants that are very good for skin complexion.
Apply Aloe vera - it can alleviate hyperpigmentation and restore your skin’s original shade. Hyperpigmentation is one of the biggest causes of uneven skin tone.
(I learned these and the reasons they work from Nakedra Lighter Method website )
Very interesting and educative. Just increase the sound volume it's very low
This is absolutely true. I actually learnt this from an health official.
So... i should stand up and go outside?
@Hubris but I can't bear being tanged
Tanned, but all you Indians are born tanned.
This was honestly a better episode.
I work in Oregon :( no energy to get out of bed , I'll try sitting outside more in the cloudy weather and see if my body feels it
Can someone tell me what months in Minnesota you can produce Vitamin D?
You should make a video about how exposure to sunlight affects skin color
if use sunblock then we cannt get Vitmen D from the sun????
Yeas this videos I love to see keep it up you guys your doing good to the world by informing ppl about this :)
“Milk and cereal producers have been adding vitamin D to their Mood Juice And Flakes” 😂😂😂😂😂
I live in Canada, so I only get decent sunlight that you can bask in about 5-6 months of the year. While i feel like vitamin d pills help ward off depression(the winter blues), but, I still feel like something is missing..
Sir, you should read the book called the salt fix by Dr dinicolantonio. It helped me a lot, I wish it makes things easier for you after you read it
Biochemistry is beautiful.
more proof of a divine creator.
Why only hands ,arms and face. Can Other part of body skin can also do the same thing?
Please answer....
So all we need is 5-15 minutes of sunshine?
How much time outside does it take to get a sunburn?
Trace you're the best presenter.
+Super Hans I second that.
+Collin Willoughs you guys :D
Any one notice that Trace voice is a bit different here???
+Warrior Son bruh lol
+Warrior Son If he swallows, his testosterone levels could go up.
Weirdly enough, I have been waiting for this video for soooo long!!
Is that 5 minutes exposure for pink skin or brown skin?
Meg is back
"Look at that guy! He thinks he's plants!" I so wanted to talk sense into that lady....
Exactly the video I was looking for
Great info. Thanks!!!
This is very timely
What about daylight lamps? For winter depression etc.
Going outside is gay...
Think about it
What vitamin does the sun give us
Vitamin D
Bruh! O.O
So funny.
D news? Why do I feel more energetic when the sun is out and the weather starts to warm up? I love the winter but I literally feel like I'm 90 years old!
Pretty sure they've done that before. Either them or sci show
Sunshine girl here🌞🌻😎
Kindly tell me if use sunblock then we cannt get Vitmen D from the sun????
Can you check into the possibility of a nutrient deficiency causing frequent nosebleeds, or even a nutrient "overdose?' (Vitamin A?)
I have been having them very frequently (2 or 3 per day.) No I don't live in a dry climate, it's actually pretty humid.
On the off chance this has anything to do with it my father has a hereditary blood mutation as it's called, called Factor Five. Factor V Leiden is a mutation of one of the clotting factors in the blood called factor V. This mutation can increase your chance of developing abnormal blood clots. Although I haven't been tested for it yet I do get large clots with nosebleeds. Thanks.
I was having a little black skin color when I got 13 years old my skin became white☺
more health videos please!
You need to have more skin exposed to sun than just your hands arms and face if you're going to get enough in just 5-15 minutes
Really fast-talking, but I got it all in... I think. Good video.
Am I the only one who noticed that the lighting in this video was off?
Thank you 👍🏽🔥🔥
Very carefully.
How many ATPs are used during this process
If sunlight is just a trigger, why doesnt the body produce it even without triggers. Wouldnt that be an advantage?
Plant vitamins are compatible with human vitamins, but a protein called CCN1 that gets rid of scars only works on mice apparently.
Does it supposed to be morning sun only? Or any time is OK?
Slobbo Video nope only morning because sun only has vitamin am I right
would be cool if we had photo synthesis
I wish!
NO LIE I WAS TALKING ABOUT THIS THIS MORNING
I'm glad we get fortified foods with vitamin D, doing 13 hour shifts inside 3 to 4 times a week means I can't get in the sun much. Plus in the UK means we don't get a lot of sun ;)
On God bro I'll be feeling physically bad or sick, but I'll step in the sun and Ill feel like I'm on steroids
Steroid hormone that is sunshine.
60k iu pill of D3 a month works for me.. I do go out everyday, but mostly in sun-protective clothing, only the face, hands(with sun screen slathered on) and head is exposed and I walk in shade as much as possible. I feel sun is more damaging at my location(30 North of Equator) pill is the best way to get all the vitamin D.
currently sunbathing while typing this
Actually most things fortified with vitamin d use d3 now, not d2. The only things I have found that use d2 are nut and seed milks and tofu, if it is fortified at all. Cereals and milks and oj used d3.
but why only sunlight, sunlight is a source of energy, right? then why not just heat produced from fire how does sunlight differ in that case. and does it matter if you are wearing some clothes?
hahaha the beginning is my favorite
Btw good Job getting a sunburn extra for the video. We can see Traces enthusiasm for the show.
3:28 Trace meant to say vitamin D supplements not calcium supplements, right? :)
you know what they say
they:SUN GIVES U CANCER
me: but i got vitamin D m8
they: u get that from the sun
me : and the D cancelles it out
wait didnt laci green quit?
can you guy do the scientific reason of why we get fat and why we lose weight.
tnx
Standing in the sun for 10mins 😊
Me to relax by the sun for at least 10 mins
The way you said calcitriol seemed a bit off based on its spelling.
Its impossible to escape the sun in Florida
It's not synthesized deep in the skin at all, it's kind of the opposite actually.
Also, skin synthesis depends on much more factors: zenith angle, lattitude, skin pigment, magnesium inter and intra cellular levels etc. Sunscreen blocks 95% or more of the UVB rays required to make vitamin D
Do you have a link to exactly where and how the vitamen D is produced?
Does sunlight give you more energy/make you feel better?
Guitarfollower22 yep
Guitarfollower22 I stay in the sun every morning for 30 mins, afterward I feel so lazy and sleepy.
My doctor told me I have a Vitamin D deficiency.. I literally only go outside when I have to go to work, maybe that's why..
Well then you're an idiot. Maybe if it's causing you medical problems you should follow your doctor's advice? smh.
if you don't have time to just go outside then get supplements
+Super Hans I don't trust doctors in my country since they almost all believe in the bible
How much sunlight 🌞 would it take for it to become toxic? even if its more sun then in 1 day?
+James Mills Depends on the UV radiation level. If it's 14 and you stay one hour I think you'd probably have to think of skin cancer before thinking about Vitamin D intoxication.
If it wasn't for that whole vitamin D fortification initiative we'd have an even worse rickets problem now than we did back then... XD
calcitriol is pronounced "cal-sit-er-all"? How does that work
+Lucadollar Cal-sit-tree-all.
I know but he said cal-sit-er-all
+Lucadollar Just like Montreal is mon-ter-all
FireVulpez Do you actually say mon-ter-all or are you fucking with me.
+Lucadollar mon-tree-all
Do a video on Vitamin B17.
858.90 watts / square meter *Re:* covid-19 and D-3 • Given an experienced dark-hair healthy recently declared Geriatric ◘ Rates of production & a "How Fast" question; How much cellular usable D-3 products would occur given 1 to 5 hours exposure of waist-up ?
I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about redheads and the VD mutation we have
People that dislike don't like being healthy.
If vitamin D is created by the photons from sunlight breaking something or separating something or whatever, couldn't artificial light do the same? I mean photons of light are all the same, it's just artificial light is different wave lengths
So basically you can get skin cancer from sunlight but you can also get Vitamin D that will decrease the chance of getting cancer. How does it balance out?
Great vid until I was forced to look at Laci Green at the end . It kinda spoiled it for me .
I've never sun burnt I just tan. I was outside for a hour I was tan
For how long we have to stand🤔?
dnews make a video about minerals and the importance in our bodies
Why is this sped up
Watching while taking sunbath 🙂👍
Are there other animals that do dermal vitamin synthesis?
yes i did been outside for 8 hours today and was wondering can you also can get vitamin D from the welding ark?
nope
really? are sure about it? that the arc that comes of that is compared to be stronger to owner sun, heck you can get real nasty sunburn from it.
+Gary Collin (Smelweldor) yep
