@@DANGJOS I don’t wash my hands that much I won’t wash my hands before cooking eating after using the bathroom etc(no hate if you wash your hands)but I rub my face all the time and I’m fine
I'm one of the people who actually stands there for 30 seconds washing my hands, not only that but I carry hand sanitizer with me if I am going out to eat and stuff, especially to buffets where hundreds of hands touch the same objects and you don't know where those hands have been!
***** Yeah back when I was younger I wasn't so strict with my hand washing and it led to getting the flu and colds, now that my hygiene is on point I hardly ever get sick. Sounds like you have an excellent immune system.
Kris Paterson Yeah I saw that video when it came out, I still rather some extra BPA than getting the flu or whatever diseases people have spread on buffet food handles
My roommate doesn't wash her hands, I know this because I never hear the water turn on. I don't think I've ever heard her wash her hands after using the restroom. It grosses me out. So I open the door then wash my hands since the door knob is probably pretty dirty.
bellavita rox I feel bad for you. You must end up with food poisoning after your roommate does the cooking. My ex-roommate never washed her hands after using the toilet and neither did she shower daily and I ended up very very sick from food poisoning frequently
bellavita rox I usually use my shirt, or foreign arm or back of hand, or hold the unused part of a handle , or try to stretch and hold the door open with my shoe. This stuff bothers me
+iWillWakeYouUp How about just choose the best choice and wash your hands for ~15 seconds correctly with regular soap that washes away bacteria and doesn't result in super bugs?
At least 15 seconds every time I wash, I've known this fact for years so I count to 15 in my head every time I wash, sometimes I make it to 20. Although I am OCD so that probably plays a big part.
Im glad i know about the 20 second hand rule now but since i wash my hands alot throughout the day, i'm worried i might get paranoid about my hands more than i already am. Good tips I stand for is: wash when you get home, wash before cooking, before eating and drinking out, after handling money and shaking hands, carry wet wipes, after petting animals, and after being at the beach. Dear god, I'm becoming my mom.
Maybe some of he discrepancy between the self-reported and observed had washing is that the observers were not as unobtrusive as they believe they were, leading some percentage of bathroom users to get the hell away from the creeper pretending not to look at them.
Hand washing is something I am passionate about. I make all of the soap for my family and make sure that my kids wash their hands properly, creating suds, rinsing the suds from their finger tips, making more, rinsing from fingertips, etc. I believe that soap and water is not a privilege, but a right for every human being, for their health and for their community's well being. Everyone deserves to have soap and water.
Chuckie Waitt that's a bet you would lose. On the contrary, we get sick less often because why? Oh yeah, we wash our hands. You don't need to build immunity to microbes if you don't let them inside in the first place.
Exposed yes, but susceptible, not necessarily. Just because you are exposed does not mean that you are automatically going to get sick. Having healthy flora is as important, if not more than washing the germs off of your hands before touching your face. Just gargling water reduces your chances of getting sick. Swabbing your nose with salt water reduces your chances. I have kids in school and my kids get sick less than their classmates. They still do get sick once or twice a year, but less than their classmates. The proof is in the pudding.
Then you touch that same door to get out, which has had everyone that didn't wash their hands touch. Thus your hands are just as dirty leaving the bathroom as when you entered if not more so.
+Sam Trott negative, I use the paper towel I used to dry my hands to open the door. If they have air dryers instead of paper towels, I'll use my foot to open the door. If the door uses a knob instead of a handle, I'll grab tp to use as a barrier.
2 minutes, according to our local Hospital - when I was in there during my daughter's birth I read the card provided for nurses: wash backs of hands, palms, backs of interlocked fingers, fronts of interlocked fingers, cup fingers in an rj shape and scrub, hold one thumb with the other hand and scrub, reverse, scrape fingers against opposite palm and reverse (this last one is really great at getting under the nails.) And according to a Research Doctor I read once, 5 times a day means your hands are so sanitary it is hard for bacteria to get a grip.
alcohol needs a 20 minute contact time. so studies have shown that when the nurse scrubs your skin before drawing your blood is more detrimental then not whipping your arm.
Tokotoko Bunni I think they got rid of it because kids would make a really big mess and they must have cracked the shits and decided to remove it and i am in Australia so that could explain it.
I believe that there is an extreme to much washing your hands since I used to be one who was totally afraid of catching germs but over the years I have totally changed. I do wash my hands especially in public most of the time. I don’t wash my hands like when I was in district 51 schools and I have not got sick like I used too.
This is what I tell everybody! I always count to 30, while washing my hands. my mom always does the "just wet my hands" thing, and I find that super gross. Especially after using the bathroom!
I read about this a few years ago and ever since I wash them properly like that I barely got sick and I used to get sick all the time. You don't always have a sink when you eat fastfood outside though
i wash my hands before and after i do most things, like eat, play games or even touch my dog. i cant go a few hours without washing my hands, it feels so gross to have greasy hands
Question: Are we supposed to put soap on our hands before water? I see most people put soap before turning the tap on, but personally i think washing our hands that way isnt bubbly enough so i prefer putting soap in the middle of washing my hands.
Come on DNews, you guys should know it's "wrongly" in that grammatical context.Normally I wouldn't care, but when you're correcting us it's best not to make a mistake first.
I try to make it a habit to wash my hands the correct way, but even I forget sometimes. Besides, I wash my hands constantly as it is at work because I'm a cashier.
+Angela Gulbranson (Angie) To clarify this, the host says wash your hands and kill the bacteria, killing bacteria is bad because it causes antibiotic resistance. So which is it? Washing your hands with regular soap and water does not kill the bacteria. The soap grabs onto the dirt and bacteria with one end and grabs the water with the other end and the bacteria is pulled off your hand and into the water and down the drain. The bacteria is not killed it just goes somewhere else so its not on your hand anymore.
The dirtiest part of your hands is the fingertips, yet people tend to focus on the palms of their hands. Your dominant hand is also the dirtiest, yet people tend to use it to wash the non-dominant one.
I suffer with ocd and i wash my hands for an hour but when in public it's 40 seconds since i don't want public thinking i'm nuts or judge me so i don't feel clean unless i'm an hour plus i refuse touching a lot of things.
But doesn't washing your hands too often cause dry skin? I have a serious problem with that every winter, the back of my hand keeps getting very dry and my skin "opens" or something..
+Vegas “Vaggos” McSwagger You just need to wash your hands before eating or after using the bathroom. It's not that often. If it's still too dry, maybe you genetically prone to having dry skin. I guess you may need to have a balanced diet and wear moisturize from time to time to counter the dry skin.
They should view it some other way. Because, if another person is present, people are going to be more likely to conform to this hand washing norm. My hypothesis would ask, does the percentage of people that wash their hands before exiting the restroom decrease when no other person is present 😮
What is more liquid soap gives an oportunity to avoid more bacteria than solid soap. When you keep your solid soap on your soap dish and it remains in water wich run down from soap bar it contains more bacteria and your hand wash may be pointless. That`s why in hospitals surgeons don`t use solid soap for many many years. What is more in our houses there are two main bacteria incubators, one is solid soap kept in (so called by scientist in my country) "soap juice" and second one is a sponge used to wash dishes which was left wet. Use dishwashers and liquid soap with automatic feeder.
The study is malarkey. I've been in the resto biz a long time and I can tell you that we hardly ever have to replace the soap in the public restrooms - because hardly anyone uses it - same goes for the paper towel. The numbers are dismal if the restrooms are 'single private' - meaning there won't be anyone there to see if you wash your hands. In my own restaurant (single, private restrooms), I would sometimes check the sinks after a big lunch rush and find them perfectly dry. Out of curiosity I took to marking the paper about 6 or seven sheets in and found that the mark remained on the roll most days (with dozens of people passing through the restrooms). Toilet paper, on the other hand, can disappear like magic if it's not in a locked dispenser (and sometimes even if it's in a locked dispenser). Try putting a water meter on the supply to the sinks, weighing paper and soap after busy meal rushes, and just counting the number of people to go through and you'll find that people almost never wash their damn hands if they are alone in there. Gah!
I wash my hands thoroughly but I cannot figure out why all bathroom doors open in! They should open out so I don't have to touch the handle, which after watching this video I am now convinced is covered in someone's poo. Thanks DNews!
I think that just people being in the washroom affect whether or not you wash your hands, and how you wash your hands. I feel as if the researchers weren't in the room, less people would have washed their hands. Just a thought.
It is commonly expressed to turn off the tap (presumably to preserve water) during this period and back on again for a final rinse. Does that not cross contaminate which is nearly as gross as washing wrong? Nearly all faucets force cross contamination unless you leave it on and come back with a clean towel to turn it off. It's especially gross in a public restroom. Don't cite antimicrobial surfaces, they don't kill microbes immediately.
The new antibacterial hand soap in my grocery store has benzalkonium chloride instead of triclosan. Is it any better? I'm still gonna try to stay away from it, I think, just bc antibacterial soap seems unnecessary.

I think they should have looked at different types of bathrooms as well the more dirty a bathroom appears the more likely I making sure I'm washing my hands rights.
here is the real issue. who washes their phones or sanitizes them? I and everyone else might wash their hands, but then we go back to using our phones that are COVERED in bacteria because nobody cleans their devices....That and menus....
Jeez... I've just been peeing all over my hands and then drying them by running my fingers through my hair when I get to the mirror. No wonder I'm sick all the time and everybody hates me.
Am I the only one who washes his hands several times a day properly?! And has an instinct that sanitizers are useless unless it's the last option? Before watching this video
i never really wash my hands because apparently i like to wash my hands like im preparing for surgery lol i wash like half way down my arm and then i dont want to touch the knobs so i use paper towels. i feel like my hands will be dirtier if i use just water and then touch everything and its all wet it just grosses me out.
+MaicoMoon Well there are many ways to breathe more effectively. the thing is it depends on what you are doing and how fit you are... because obviously doing "Yoga breathing" durring a sprint won't be the best idea. Nor huffing and puffing while trying to sleep or watching TV.
What if doesnt wash hands some 1-3 times per week when on shower and for years never getting sick of any illness. Is it luck or very good immune system ?

My hands feel dirty if I don't wash them after going to the toilet, and I always scrub them.
Jeez... I've just been peeing all over my hands and then drying them by running my fingers through my hair when I get to the mirror. No wonder I'm sick all the time and everybody hates me.
I have a question.

90%? I find that hard to believe.
Whenever I use the bathroom like half the people don't wash their hands.

i never really wash my hands because apparently i like to wash my hands like im preparing for surgery lol i wash like half way down my arm and then i dont want to touch the knobs so i use paper towels. i feel like my hands will be dirtier if i use just water and then touch everything and its all wet it just grosses me out.
Nothing was mentioned about proper drying, all the washing is negated if you did not dry the hands entirely.

Why don't you make the next video about how we're breathing wrong too BuzzFeeD.
and how were having sex wrong
+MaicoMoon Well there are many ways to breathe more effectively. the thing is it depends on what you are doing and how fit you are... because obviously doing "Yoga breathing" durring a sprint won't be the best idea. Nor huffing and puffing while trying to sleep or watching TV.
Why do some people have trouble controlling their anger? At least compared to others...
+NameTheGame Harry I guess it depends on the person, their willpower, and if they even attempt at self-control.

Just because you didn't see him doesn't mean he didn't
+sinaloacosala1 No one washes their hands when they go out to eat. Very few people use restaurant restrooms.
+MrDgf25 Yeah I know all that. All I said was most people do not use restrooms in restaurants.
Also that's super creepy having people spy on you while you was your hands.
