- A physician, whose license has been revoked, poses as a practicing doctor aboard a train passing through Arizona. His presence there is part of a caper involving a fictitious patient, on whose behalf he gains access to his checked baggage, including his physician's "black bag," in the baggage car, whereupon he blows and then robs the safe. Then he arranges for both the fictitious patient, which he claims is infected with a communicable disease which poses an immediate and extremely serious public health risk, and himself to leave the train, presumably departing for the closest hospital, which is also far from any scheduled train stop, the two thereby escaping with $500,000 in an ambulance. The railroad officials do not discover the robbery until the train reaches Phoenix, many hours after their escape has been effected.
In response, the insurance company puts the protagonist, Charlie Norman, on the case, forcing him to postpone his previously scheduled vacation to Mexico. Joe Armstrong, an old friend who is the investigator for the railroad, works with him. Gradually evidence starts to turn up that the thieves ditched the ambulance and escaped in a rented helicopter. The scheme was thus elaborate, showing that the robbery had been carried out according to a strict timetable. But there was one misstep that kept it from being the perfect crime. As the investigators pursue this misstep, the intended timetable starts to unravel and the audience suddenly discovers who the secret mastermind is.
Finally, as the American and Mexican authorities begin to close in, the mastermind pulls his last clean-escape opportunity from his sleeve, only to have his well-intentioned wife pull a practical joke on him, in the process making a duplicate key to his locked attache case and substituting vacation travel magazines for his work papers only to discover that the robbery money is in his case, which she immediately returns, anonymously, to the railroad, thereby completely foiling what had started out to be "the perfect crime."

Directed by Mark Stevens, produced by Mark Stevens, written by Aben Kandel (screenplay) and Robert Angus (story), starring Mark Stevens as Charlie Norman, King Calder as Joe Armstrong, Felicia Farr as Linda Brucker, Marianne Stewart as Ruth Norman, Wesley Addy as Dr. Paul Brucker, Alan Reed as Al Wolfe, Rodolfo Hoyos Jr. as Lt. Castro, Jack Klugman as Frankie Page and John Marley as Bobik

I'm a sucker for these understated, relatively obscure crime / noir movies from the 1950s. This was a good one, I had never previously heard of it.
One additional fantastic feature in this movie is the sound engineering. Who ever he is , he has done a super job
How did you judge that?
Sound engineer Robert Roderick yep Picture and sound Quality is very good possibly from the Master
Enjoyed this very much! Lots of surprises and very good acting.
Wow, what a great noir! Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout. Excellent cast - Mark Stevens never made it to the upper acting echelon like Lancaster, Douglas, and the rest of the era, but he always put in a fine performance. Jack Klugman is always a surprise in his pre-comedy films - he was a perfectly fine dramatic actor (e.g., the Twilight Zone episode with him as the pool player).
I suddenly noticed about halfway through this film that the actor who plays Wolfe sounded remarkably like Fred Flintstone! So I looked up the cast and found out that his name was Alan Reed, and sure enough I was right - he was indeed the voice of Fred Flintstone!
Nice noir film to get my mind off of other things, and though I agree that it was a tightly packaged film and the acting was great, the plot itself wasn’t as interesting as I had hoped.
But that often happens with films of this era - things were simpler then, and so the plots often don’t have as much to reflect on as I would like.
But it was still interesting in its own way.
@Craig 😹👍😻
He even looks like Fred Flintstone
Al was in the original The Postman Always Rings Twice, plays the stenographer that types Garfields confession, then tried later to
blackmail the pair,oh what a mistake ...but sounds REALLY like F.Flinstone in that part Worth checking out💯
He even looks like Fred Flinstone
@@dennisduran8500 he does.
Yet another reason to believe in and subscribe to this great RUclips Channel! Timeless Classic Movies has once again provided a great classic movie complete with a quality upload! Thank you very much for posting.
Mark Stevens makes great film noir. His "Dark Corner" is one of the best I've seen, right down to the music.
He is as good in "the street with no name" terrific
Indubidubly 🙂
Excellent Film Noir Movie. As a kid I always like Mark Stevens acting. He was always one underrated actor. This film had a great Cast, Story. Director Stevens and Music Score by Walter Scharf. Thanks for the upload.
TIOMKIN1 agree
Hey this is a really good film, I watched it twice in two days, thanks!!
The point is not that she's clingy. She's trying hard to reach out to him because she can clearly sense that somethings wrong
I wanted to see that his wife kept the money instead of mailing it. Well, I hope she and the cop had a long happy life together.
I would have kept the money!
Good story line and twists. It was fun to see actors that were 10 to 20 years younger than when I remember them after becoming big. Thank you for posting.
I think this is one of the most surprisingly tight plots I've seen any any film noir...blown away
Now that's a real film noir movie, great!
I've always liked Mark Stevens, a good standup actor and every movie I've seen him in was a good production: good writing and directing, etc.
Mark Stevens was always a favorite actor of mine. Great director too.
Thank you for posting and sharing!
eyeOOsee op
Very good movie. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you and Merry Christmas!***** This one shall never come again.
Yes Plunder Road was an excellent movie. This one was also entertaining. It may seem corny by today's standards. There was no computer generated stuff the lighting n shadows, etc. So I guess the focus of suspense are car chases n so on. I enjoy all these oldie goldies. Thanks
Broderick Crawford, Highway. Patrol
Fine film thanks for post
Good movie. Thank you for uploading.
Linda is played by Felicia Farr, aka Mrs. Jack Lemmon
An interesting chain of Felicia Farr to Jack Lemmon, who was in The Odd Couple, the movie, to Jack Klugman, who was in the TV series.
Amazing ingenuity that almost made it, but for the blunder of Lombard that started to unravel the perfect crime. Script was really tight which is what I love about these movies, they didn't stuff around. Felt sympathy for ALL the main characters in this movie, which is unusual.
@zebrazxx - loose change?
yes and if only if I could have watched it with you
TY for the upload, excellent noir with fine performances all round. :-)
WOW !!! This is a good movie
That was a really good movie. It started off with a bit of bad acting from peripheral characters, but from then on gets better and better. Thanks for the upload!
How did i miss this one....excellent.
Very clean and crisp copy of a well directed and acted film. Worth the watch!
Absolutely fabulous!
Clear copy
Thank you for the upload!
Loved the burglary technique used, well scripted, never seen that before!
He shoots the man in an apartment building and no one hears it? Stands outside the door for 30 seconds thinking? I have lived in apartment buildings. That hallway would have been full of nosy neighbors after a blast from a 38 revolver. Those things are noisy. Cops would have ruled out suicide with no gun powder residue. Still a fun movie to watch. His poor wife’s reaction to him being found out was very realistic and moving. What a crum! Loved having her remove the money. She new something was up and followed through with the ruse to see what the hell he was up to! Very sad.
Even when people hear-
They don't hear
An example of this is the Genovese case in NYC when a young lady was stabbed to death and she was screaming and no one helped her. People are usually afraid to get involved for fear of their own lives as well as their families.
Agreed but let's just go with the flow
Good Classic Movie
Excellent film with exciting plot. Definitely one of the best noirs I have seen!
Super. thanks
Time Table is a fantastic drama movie.
Thanks for the download Timeless Classic Movies.
Ed
I asked my son to watch this with me. He was born in 1956 and now he is 60.He tells me " this is so old, it reeks ! Get modern."
Beth well you tried
Beth I'm 70 but thanks for you tube we can watch the classic movies
noir not his thing? he may not even THANK FRANK everyday
Lots of people to look for in this movie. Jack Klugmam, the ex I Governor of California, Fred Flintstone ( Alan Reed)....
Watching this for the 4th, ... maybe 5th time. Each time it provides me with two hours of entertainment. I love the dick's analysis of the crime scene: "shaped charge" and explaining how it works. As the title suggests, the time table is worked out.
Good quality print, audio is clear. Wish all vids on RUclips came to me like this.
Does the doctor on the train look familiar? If you've seen "Network," you've seen Wesley Addy, as the president of the UBS Network, Nelson Chaney. He also starred in "The Verdict." Good actor.
For a second I thought that was Anderson Cooper! jk
Numerous TV and film roles in the 1950s and 1960s.
Nice flick. Thank you for sharing.
Has all the elements of a great film noir movie. I give it 4 stars.
Just because his wife is friendly ,helpful, pleasant and concerned , she's called clingy! What a brainwashed generation we are in now.
And Klugman noticed only as Quincy? If you love the past so well, why not learn something about it... There's gold to be found.
Kevin Harkens You got it!
Wonderful
I agree wholeheartedly.
I agree. There is gold there. We’ll look til we find it. I know it’s worth the wait. God bless !
Now we call them: tradwives.
Fine, subtle acting, taut, suspenseful story, swift pacing .... great under-rated film.
yes, but his overpowering wife would drive any man crazy.i had one
Alan Reed is fred flintstone
Very good movie, even so this was a 100% neat job I just don't know how they couldn't pull through, and to add, he is one of the best detective he should've escape this one, and that's a good wife he has, she might seem boring and clingy but still she's amazing
Agree on the film's appeal, but far from a 'neat' job, way too many loose ends once the chaos factor takes the plan on the inevitable exponential twists. Simple would have been doctor needing a neat scotch bails with all the money having planned his escape beforehand, last seen in Bali, Argentina, pick yer spot.
Film would have lasted 39 mins
@@Cracktaculus wow! I did not see that other side
Smooth riding train. It was like they weren't even on a train. Man the things they can do with technology
Fantastic !
Shoots him then loosens his tie... what a guy
P m we have a knack for details love it
I loved this movie even I, an 80s baby, knew some familiar faces. found it by luck looking for black and whites with trains in them, I love the mystery and drama of the train. If you know any other good ones let me know. Or others like these let me know.
Double Indemnity shares some plot elements, but no trains as far as I remember.
"Sleeoing Car to Trieste" (1948). Almost all of the action takes place on a train. This must-see classic contains everything: drama, suspense, intrigue with a liberal sprinkling of great humour. The film is carried through by a star-studded cast which delivers outstanding performances. It's on RUclips. Go for it.
I love train movies too. If you're still looking, there's- Broadway Limited- '41, By Whose Hand- '32, Danger Lights- '30, Florida Special- '36, Human Desire '54, Midnight Limited- '40, Prison Train '38, Rome Express- '32, Sleeping Car- '33, Sleepers West, Sleeping Car to Triest- 48, Streamline Express- '35, The Mystery Train- '31, The Phantom Express- '32, Twisted Rails- '34, Western Pacific Agent- '50, Horror Express- '72, Berlin Express- '48, Murder on the Orient Express, and my favorite~
The Ghost Train- '41!
While all the other suggestions are fine, you need to watch "Narrow Margin" with Charles McGraw and Marie Windsor...almost the entire movie takes place on a train. An excellent film noir.
If you've ever seen inside a safe it's not going to open without a key or combination.
amazing how many of the leading men in so many of the 40s n 50s flicks are named Johnnie.
...and singers :. Johnny Ray, Johnny Mathis,
Johnny Be Good,, Johnny Angel,. , Johnny
(tag! Your turn),
Nowadays they ar re named JACK :)
Very intriguing !
And the voice of Fred Flinstone!
Not bad at all, but a little heavy on the dramatic music in the finale. Well written; you get the sense that once things started to go amiss the rest was inevitable.
brilliant movie defo worth watching
Really well done. The music score is good b/c most of the time it's silent:)
IE: a daytime shot has birds cheeping in the background and a scene at night
you hear crickets. Great dialogue and great actors, I enjoyed this one !
Being nasty to his wife---it kinda offers the viewer a glimpse of the guy right off
Character Alan Wolfe played by Alan Read aka Fred Flintstone’s voice
Klugman great in this. Brooklyn meets Arizona..
Thanks. It was driving me nuts trying to figure out who Klugman was.
@@michaelmisanthrope 37:40 Jack Klugman ... a recognizable voice. 39:29 RIP Jack Klugman!
@@sandrapatterson2916 I must have mislaid my glasses. It is so obviously the guy from "The Odd Couple." Cheers.
@@michaelmisanthrope No problem! 👍🏼 May Klugman RIP!

I finally got to the part with Jack Klugman! It's great to see him in a bit part in an early film. I just loved him in "The Odd Couple" TV series with Tony Randall!
I think he's in " 12 angry men". Regardless, it's a good movie, check it out,!
How about that.... It really was Jack Klugman. And he got billing for that minor role. Klugman did a great episode of the Untouchables TV series.with Robert Stack in the early 1960's. I think Klugman played the roll of a mob attorney in that one.. Remember, he was always eating from a bag of rock candy.
@@Jeff-uj8xi I just love watching Jack Klugman in anything he is in. I like him much better in "The Odd Couple" than Walter Matthau.
@@lisathomas3082 You are right. Jack was in "12 Angry Men" and I love that movie. I bought it on dvd a long time ago and rewatch it from time to time.
Great Movie from beginning to end... Sorry Charlie... No more Tuna Tacos for you Holmes!
11:56 Mr. Drysdale of the Beverly Hillbillies before his wig was ready.
I think he went bald in most of his movie roles until he got 'The Beverly Hillbillies".
Yes, I saw another film with the "shady looking" Drysdale...lol
Glad you pointed him out!
And none other than the voice of Fred Flinstone!
Can anyone guess who it is 😁?
Yeah imagine Drysdale pitched 58 plus scoreless innings and his Dodger cap covered his bald head. Who knew he would get into acting ?. LA Dodgers to film noir to Beverly Hillbillies. Boy ain't I funny and dummy
Now I remember, Kiss Me Deadly, made around the same time, I knew he was in a fave movie of mine .. the bad doc was a detective in that one.
Mark Stevens wasn't in "Kiss Me Deadly". That was Ralph Meeker.
Good Cinema!!
Excellent movie!!!!!
Great movie!
A little too talky, but with an unusual story angle and an intriguing score by Walter Scharf.
Good movie👍
I can remember a time when going to Mexico was a nice thing.
Mary Wilder I can remember a time when going to the USA was a nice thing
It still is if you watch your step.
Acapulco is a crime and violence ridden cesspool now.
I was there last year and had a wonderful time. Maybe YOU are the problem.
@@Frank-ue6eg Like your backyard?
Good movie. "Tell him to make a western". LOL
The pilot company owner is Fred Flinstone
This film has a great caper. I am surprised that Hollywood has not copied it. The music director had no sense of music.
💥Awesome 🎬movie i enjoyed it📽💥📽💥📽💥📽💥📽💥📽
United Artists "indy" pickup. Great cast.
The train was traveling to Phoenix, but the stops & the Highway Patrol cars are California.
...and Charlie asks his partner...why is riverside so much hotter than LA? Maybe they haven't left CA yet?
@@TheArby13 There is no Winston, AZ, but I am assuming they mean Winslow, AZ. If so, they were traveling west before heading south to Phoenix, in which case they were not coming from CA.
@@TheArby13 Let me retract that comment about Winslow. Later in the movie, after where I made that comment, it becomes clear that they were coming from Riverside. So that wasn't Winslow, and they were heading east.
good movie.....thanx
The " Dr" at the beginning was a great Shakespeare actor, and played an evil Ddr in THE VERDICT, the great film starring Paul Newman
Has anyone seen Plunder Road? Now that's a movie.
sorry
+alex tworkowski PLUNDER ROAD is great. You might enjoy my recent comments on the film at unknownhollywoodweekend.blogspot.com

Who is the singer in the Mexican bar, sounds so much like Elvis. Very beautiful voice.
no Powder residue on the victim was left hand at 4618 he could not have shot himself Fred Flintstone gone forever
My kinda movie. Thanks for uploading this !!
I just watched this film. I have rather stumbled upon it. Really a good time table, from surprise to surprise. Twisted story, but well written... And the bad guys don't get away with it "there's no such thing as a perfect crime".
Happy holidays, Charlie!
Thanks for the upload. Greetings.
"Wolfe"at 23:38 is the man who voiced the ORIGINAL "Fred Flintstone".
Alan reed
They drew fred pretty much like him
More than Ralph kramden
Excellent Movie. This copy was taken from someone's analogue TV though.
This movie seems more like a cigarette enticement I am tempted to go buy a pack
That actor, Raymond Bailey, played Milburn Drysdale the banker in the Beverly Hillbillies.
a nicely portrayed anti-hero - a nice change for a film noir.
He's not an antihero.
Alan Reed-the voice of Fred Flintstone.
Another enjoyed movie. TKU.
2:24 classic "smell the fart" acting. Totally forgot his line.
Allen “Fred Flintstone” Reed
YABA. DABA. DOO! The man on the plane is the voice of Fred Flintstone, Alan Reed
I don’t understand the fact that when people would light up a cigarette in those days, they would throw away the matches on the floor. I noticed that in most old movies.
@@nwnmonk7034 I remember seeing people dumping the contents of their car ashtray out the car door into the parking lot. Not uncommon.
Really? As a young man, I remember folks putting out a cigarette in the grocery store (I was one of them)🤪

Yeah, they used to call the floor, "the big ashtray" in them days.

The shock came twice: the doctor revealed as a crook, then the crooked AND unfaithful husband. Excellent movie; it perfectly proved what the Bible says: a person reaps what he sows (Galatians 6:7).
We are experiencing the travail.
Almost time to bring this BABE out
yes Alex just have brilliant wow
On a scale of 1 to 5. This film is a solid 4.0.
The Nash ramblers are cute
Great pace. Holds attention from the get go. No pussy-footing around.
That bastard shot Fred Flintstone.
Fades away after a promising start.
"Candy Butcher" Now that is a dated term, I have read it numerous times but this is the first time I have ever heard it said aloud.
Enjoyed the movie. Did anyone else see the hobo in the bushes at 1hr 17min 35 sec. Looks as tho there was only one take of that scene and he was taken by surprise. He was lying down and just shot up looking quite surprised when there was gun fire.
Michael Phillip ooh im gonna watch for it. fun
He had the money.
that's odd a member of The Odd Couple drove the getaway car they became a coroner
Jack Klugman
In those years they always wrote their scripts in a way that the so called "bad guy"gets caught..Society ,at that time, would not accept Hollywood to end a story with police not getting their criminal(s).Nowadays hollywood gets to write their movies anyway they like,my how times have changed !! I'm appreciative of the fact that nowadays hollywood is showing women in a different light and being more respectful of them unlike back in the 1920's-1950's and so on.
Sometimes, I want the bad guys to get away. It's more realistic that way. No police agency solves 100% of its murders and robberies.
Scarlef street
What a wife!!!
That guy was the bad doctor in The Verdict
Great Shakespearean Actor
