I have read (more than once) that cigarettes in that era had far less "additives" (addictive poisons) than the 1960s, forward. It isn't the pure tobacco that is the primary danger & cause of health problems.
Another good ole' time movie with good plot and most of everyone did a good acting job and these old movies are so much more entertaining now days than they were in their times. Love how simple life was then~!!!!
Parole, Inc., suggesting that incarceration was becoming a business....Now that is some foreshadowing from the fictional cinematic world to the current times we live in. Parole Inc and Prison Inc. are major industry in 2022 and have been for decades in the US.
Pity they don't dare throw illegals into prison- not since the whole country's biggest fear is being called a racist. Texas prisons have none of the stuff seen in movies: cells vs. large areas with short partitions between bunks, no rugs or cozy blankets, and they never see the Parole Board, either. Instead they are interviewed by flunkies that simply hand in whatever letters, Diplomas, etc. to the Board. Crude bare bones with TVs mounted high blaring day & night. I always wished the families of the victims could see how miserable TX prisons are- they would at least know the 'inmates' are not being pampered as in other states.
I enjoyed watching this. Thank you for uploading the whole movie for us to enjoy. Of course, it's no classic by any means. But fast moving & entertaining. Not only a pretty good cast, but an excellent print too ! :-)
Can you imagine lugging around a "voice recorder" THAT big!?!?!? LOL. Good of you to post this film, love these old black and white recordings. They are something special and remind me of the "real" back in the day!
Good to see good triumph over evil once again. My mother once worked for the Canadian National Parole Board and witnessed her share of incompetency and corruption but no bribery. In those days the parole board chairman just wanted her for his mistress. She said no so they bullied her to quit. A few neat cars in this film such as a '39 Buick Tudor and that '48 Buick ragtop. Not sure about that roadster.
You're right on the '39 and '48 Buicks Jim. The 'roadster' is more of a cabriolet. Some sort of European car. Never seen anything like it. It could be fairly obscure even over there.
Loved the smoking and ash tray.....in a hospital room....times have sure changed....I enjoyed the movie but I hope those people on the parole board got their money back on those acting lessons. :)
1948 and now its 2020 and parole continues to be a terrible mess with too many people sitting in prison either falsely accused or convicted with suspect evidence & testimony.
A Film noir (/fɪlm nwɑr/; French pronunciation: [film nwaʁ]) is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations. Hollywood's classical film noir period is generally regarded as extending from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography. Many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Great Depression.
Excellent Film Noir Movie. I haven't seen Michael O'Shea in years he was always a good actor. The film had a great Cast, Direction. Story and Music Score By Alexander Laszlo. Thanks for the upload. Out.
At 46:13 That is the second time Carter pushes on the car door to make sure it closes all the way. Must be something unique with that model and year make of auto.
How interesting. 1948 film shows law enforcement having voice activated recorder technology in use at that time. I thought it was 1952 when Bell Labs invented it. I could be wrong.
Right near the end..the hoods are stuck...cops gonna break in...one hood says..hey, let's give up, they got gas, and I got sinus troubles...and another hood socks him in the face, and says, "that'l cure your troubles"
Pretty good film of it's type. Good working of plot to the audience, easy to grasp. The term:"Film Noir" is too loosely used these days, who the hell REALLY knows what it refers to?
Penguin Cinema: Dwarfbros did not say the films are called 'film noir" because they are in black and white (although they are usually filmed in those shades). The genre itself has the elements of darkness and murkiness.

Roger Regor He's right. It's exactly what it means. It doesn't have anything to do w/ the film being b&w..it has to do with the darker subjects which were filmed to match the moodiness and style of the film. If it meant what everyone is arguing over, then, ALL of the films would be considered "film, noir. For instance, "Now, Voyager" w/ Bette Davis is not "film noir" but "The Hoodlum" or films along that nature are considered "film noir" and not even, that was a slim example at best.
Tobacco companies made millions and many that smoked cigarettes, cigars, etc. ended up with lung problems and cancer. I do not see that today's movies. Today is hardcore drugs.
Charles Bradstreet played Bela lugosi s assistant I Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein this film and that one are the only 2 to times I've seen him in a movie I think though he had a small part in the MGM Robert Montgomery classic lady in the lake but don't hold me to that.evelyn Ankara was in the original wolf man with Lon Chaney Jr. And turhan vey was in the the mummys Tomb both actors were in horror films for universal and even a and c meet Frankenstein was a universal film too
"Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! The Clarity of this Movie for it's age is to be praised."
Indubitably ! I was thinking the same thing ! :-)
great old movies gotta love it..no bad language ...or jumping in and out of bed....this is the way movies should be in todays world ..thank so much
it's really neat how simple everything was in the filming and story lines... largely just more "real"
That tape recorder was quite amazing.
Very "high tech" for its time ! :-)
this was when 4 out of 5 Doctors recommended Chesterfield cigarettes
Indeed ! In fact, back then some cigarette ads would pronounce that smoking was good for a person ! My, how times have changed !
I have read (more than once) that cigarettes in that era had far less "additives" (addictive poisons) than the 1960s, forward.
It isn't the pure tobacco that is the primary danger & cause of health

😅🤣😂
Or, increase your afterlife....
Better watch it bud, I made a comment like that once and boy an obvious smoker came down on me like I was insulting his mother or something.
Unlike many old movies, the sound quality of this one was very good!
This movie was to warn us about flaws in the system. Unfortunately things don’t seem to have gotten any better.
Very watchable, continuous suspense with good directing. Usually these old crime movies aren't very good.
I agree 100 per cent ! :-)
Another good ole' time movie with good plot and most of everyone did a good acting job and these old movies are so much more entertaining now days than they were in their times. Love how simple life was then~!!!!
This truly is a "Timeless Classic".
Parole, Inc., suggesting that incarceration was becoming a business....Now that is some foreshadowing from the fictional cinematic world to the current times we live in. Parole Inc and Prison Inc. are major industry in 2022 and have been for decades in the US.
You mean like how Soros pays for commie DAs to refuse bail so leftists run free and commit hundreds of crimes in blue cities?

“They’ve got gas and I’ve got sinus trouble” 🤣🤣
jimgag2 Ha Ha Ha. Then he gets bopped on the nose like The Three Stooges lol
lol
Ha ! I laughed out loud when he said that ! That corrupt member of the parole board was not only dishonest but a sniveling coward !
I got a good laugh from that, too! 😂
There are some great names in that cast including both movie and radio stars from the Golden Era.
Can you imagine lugging around a "voice recorder" THAT big!?!?!? LOL. Good of you to post this film, love these old black and white recordings. They are something special and remind me of the "real" back in the day!
That thing was high-tech back in 1948.
he didn't have his cell phone that day
@@flitsertheo You can say that again. A voice-activated recorder was amazing tech back then.
@@adammarkowitz7944 Nor did he have his Dick Tracy two way wrist radio.
@@flitsertheo A wire recorder. Precursor to magnetic tape.

Mom on the parole board = GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD!
@@Cracktaculus No, no. Mum was just a stenographer in the office.

A decent film with an interesting storyline. A crime film, yes, film noir, no.
Very good movie and much enjoyed. Thanks for the upload.
A classic my father use to watch. I have seen twice.
Good movie. Michael O'Shea is an excellent actor. He made this movie very enjoyable. Easy to follow. And not a lot of needless smoking.
? The cop was smoking in bed in the hospital!
Greetings from Slovakia
Greetings in return.
Enjoyment of vintage film knows no boundaries.
I liked it,can't beat the old films!
I heartily concur ! :-)
I go to film school. I feel like I should know this. Also, shadow and light are major parts of the color scheme in film.
1948 and now its 2020 and parole continues to be a terrible mess with too many people sitting in prison either falsely accused or convicted with suspect evidence & testimony.
I doubt the "falsely accused- is more than one or two per cent, at most.
Trial errors are the usual cause for
Reversal & Release
We enjoyed this movie. Thanks for sharing.

Everybody dressed up and was well-groomed, including the crooks.

Great movie
But how can 1 man outsmart all those hardened and experience Killers
Hard to believe cousin Eustis was in on criminal activity.
As Jackie Gleason said to Steve McQueen in 1963's "Soldier in the Rain" : "Until that time, Eustace....until that time..." :-)
Man that bugging device is awfully large.
They've got gas out there and I have a sinus problem! LOL!
Pretty good film of it's type. Good working of plot to the audience, easy to grasp.
The term:"Film Noir" is too loosely used these days, who the hell REALLY knows what it refers to?
I think Noir means black , the film Noir were usually shoot at night ,a lot of shadows lonely streets
Noir = black (French)
Noir films are usually sad, the good guy dies etc and they deal with "the dark side of life" (murder, crime)
Wow. What an excellent plot!
Great movie 🎬 yonda & will from now on out be a fav' of mine !!
47:54 - Barney drives a British Armstrong Siddely Hurricane. Classy.
Great movie, the pretty blonde from DOA that was sitting at the bar- The actors and actresses then wore such classy clothes and seemed like naturals
Marlon Brando gay???
@Terminator X she was a great radio actress too.
I FIRST SAW THIS MOVIE IN MY CRIB WHEN I WAS 1 YRS OLD.

Wonderful...
Patti Hearst plays the role of Glenda! Well, either that or her doppelganger from 75 years ago. The resemblance is positively uncanny.
Nice film.
Surely parole hearings and questions arent that pathetic as the one at the start?
I saw an error happened but I waited and here I am.
I escaped San Quentin 1974 no parole...drove home in a couple hours...

THEY SHOULD OF SHOWED THE PAROLE BOARD MEMBERS & GANGSTERS GOING TO JAIL.
How dumb is it for the cops to blow their sirens all the way to the hideout?
A plausible plot; till the end
Great movie.
Glenda Palmer's number. DR NEWTON...
Literally translated from french it means black, or dark. A reference to the color scheme :3
Great movie ???? The plot had so many holes you could drive a truck through it .
I ALMOST CUT IT OFF.
IT WAS TOO SLOW.
SO I FINISH WATCHING JUST TO SEE HOW IT TURNED OUT.
COULD OF HAD A BETTER ENDING.

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Enjoy viewing automobiles/phone booths /parole office/audio recorder/women's dress & hair do's/pin ball machines of that era-!!!🤗. Realistically portrayed citizens/parole officers/law enforcement officials. This presentation reminds me of the catch & release criminals & parolees ( 2024 ) California justice system-!!!😉.
