Thanks...for some reason I just love facts like this, and I always have fun when actors like that pop up in movies and I recognize them from TV shows. (and there is good old IMDB to confer with LOL). I'm watching this tonight!
Even if life was not precisely this way in 1937, the movies are still great to watch. It sounds like the radio personality was trying to be another Walter Winchell?
Murder Is News, release dates December 1937 (UK), 1 March 1939 USA (premiere), 17 June 1939 (New York City, New York). John Gallaudet as Jerry Tracy, Iris Meredith as Ann Leslie, George McKay as 'Brains' McGillicuddy, Doris Lloyd as Pauline Drake, John Hamilton as David Corning, John Graham Spacey (as John G. Spacey) as Fred Hammer, Frank C. Wilson as Tony Peyden, Colin Kenny as Inspector Fitzgerald, William McIntyre as Edgar Drake, Fred Bass as R. A. Snyder, Douglas Flintoff as Hodkins, Michael Heppell as Thompson, Doreen MacGregor, Hatcheck Girl, Rebel Mouat, Taxicab Driver.
2:20--There was a fictional ABC radio network in this movie, just 6 years before a real ABC radio network was formed from a forced sale of NBC's Blue network. 16:24--Did someone say "Daily Planet"? If so, then this was just before the Superman comic books came out. And that reporter was in the office of David Corning, played by the previously mentioned John Hamilton. Now who knew then that John Hamilton would go from playing someone who got questioned by a "Daily Planet" reporter to playing a "Daily Planet" editor on TV?
Good Catch. I had to play it back. You're right! John Hamilton would go on about 20 or so years later to play Perry White, Editor, The Daily Planet in The Adventures Of Superman. Great Caesar's Ghost!
The dark scenes early in the film have confused me and now I've lost all hope.I need a glass of water,a sit down and a journey in my time machine and arrange a date with Irene Dunne.
The Star reporter in this movie works for the Daily Planet. 15 years later, the actor who plays David Corning, (John Hamilton), played Perry White, the editor of the same Daily Planet, in the TV Superman series. I wonder if John Hamilton had a hand in coming up with the name for the news paper where Clark Kent, (Superman), worked , also as a "Star" reporter.
That is the director's fault.. A guy on the phone says, "where are you?'..and one second later says, "okay" and hangs up. Someone says, "where is she"..and says,"1477 Mulberry Lame, apartment 427-D"..(my example). And,if someone asks for a nickel for the phone, they reach in a pocket and put a coin in a guy's hand without looking at the coins in their hand. I always have to look at the coins in my hand, pick one out and hand it to the person. It''s called REALITY.. And they take TWO SECONDS to write something that really would take a minute to scribble it...REALITY..
@@robertwalker5521 In those days nickels actually bought something, and phone booths were everywhere, so people with business and sense kept nickels in one pocket. Don't forget the Automat. Dimes, there.

It's funny that John Hamilton should be in a film that features a newspaper called 'THE DAILY PLANET", before Superman even debuted in the comic-books! Hamilton had a nice big part in this one.
She was actually nice looking, and had a lush figure, but she was usually cast in roles that had her dowded-down to look older and dumpy. I've seen some films and photos of her from way back that show her good looks.
I can't figure this out..how can that Tony boy be Mr. Drake's son and his step-son? The mom said she was divorcing Drake so she has to be Tony's mom...?
The only 'logical' explanation would be that the mother was married first to Tony's father, then to Drake, and was then thinking of marrying David Corning. If she'd married me in the first place, there wouldn't be this confusion now.
Much of that can be resolved with Colorization, which will reduce the shadows and bring out some detail. Those who oppose this idea should remember that it would be a Print, and not the Master, which would be affected.
In a twist of irony, The Daily Planet is mentioned in this movie, which also has Actor, John Hamilton in it. Ironically, John Hamilton, in about 15 years, would go on to play the role of Perry White, Editor of The Daily Planet in The TV Show, The Adventures of Superman, the newspaper that Jerry Tracy Character is The Star Reporter for. Let me know what you think

Why were these old movies filmed in darkness? Poor lighting technique? Hard to see until more than half a minute. Asking for a friend!
